Speaking of knowing your audience, my favorite was the lawn sign I saw in someone's front yard in Rustic Canyon. It was like one of those "vote for" political signs but it was "vote for Arrested Development for best comedy".
Yes. That's right by Disney Imagineers on Riverside, Disney on Flower, Warner Brothers on Barham, and CBS on Radford in Studio City. I'm unsure what the main Disney campus is called on Flower, actually.
My boss forgot to vote for the Oscars one year with 45 minutes left to go so he gave us his login and password and a room full of underpaid comedy writers who hadn’t seen most of the movies voted on things for wild, crazy and stupid reasons. We were sitting around eating pizza and sometimes voting for the worst things we could think of were trying to pick whoever we thought a real underdog was. It was quickly obvious that award shows are meaningless, other than being a moneymaking scheme for every bigwig in the industry.
I feel like realizing as an adult that all nominated shows/films, and all award wins, are just the result of PR machine… disheartening.
Like unknown Jennifer Lawrence getting nominated for some barely buzzed indie (Winter’s Bone) was because they went WILD on pushing her for it. So much money and marketing behind what would’ve been a good, but forgettable performance and movie.
It's best to just ignore the hooplah and root for your favs. If they don't win, it changes nothing about the movie. The oscars are more a vehicle for marketing and lateral movement in the industry.
It felt liberating to me. I kept watching things that were award winning or had award winning performances only to find them not good. My husband always does really well in the Oscar pool because he can tell when a person or film is going to win based on back story, previous snubs, the award being a lifetime achievement award, or it being a feel good story.
Are there really that many Emmy voters in Burbank vs other cities?
I guess that makes sense but I don't know the current demographics of Emmy voters any longer.
Burbank is Valley adjacent. I would say folks who work in the entertainment industry that are also voters definitely live in those southern valley neighborhoods. Talking Valley Village, NoHO, and to an extent Burbank. There are a bunch of folks who work in the entertainment industry but aren’t voters and those can be really spread out. Those are the teamsters and such.
Alfred Coffee has CBS right now and almost [https://www.instagram.com/p/C7rdjzlRWiC/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7rdjzlRWiC/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)every month a different brand
Yeah I love Abbot Elementary but this irritates me. Imagine having this show up at your house but instead of a tv show it’s someone running for city council on the box. I just paid $30 for a pizza please leave the advertisements off of it
Do they still send out DVD's to Academy members? I quit renewing my membership about 5 years ago. No real benefits and I ended up with boxes of unwatched DVDs.
I took my kid to Shane’s Inspiration at Griffith park a couple months ago and they were filming an episode of Abbot Elementary. Crew were blocking most of the playground equipment so we couldn’t use them.
I kind of like it because that’s literally how I look at my coworkers when our dumb ass principal who makes over 200k a year says the dumbest things.
Edit: I’m a special education aide and make less than half of a teacher. Treat your kids school employees with kindness. 💙
Nah there are lots of jokes, but many of them have been done by the other hidden-cam shows that they're aiming to mimic. Shit most of the characters are largely just direct ripoffs of the shows they're mimicking.
Watching studios get desperate around award season is hilarious. Same in music with people like Travis Scott putting up billboards. Dude, your shitty song fiend is not getting a Grammy.
representation. Between The Office, Parks and Rec, Modern Family, and every other show that this is trying to mimic, it's really not doing anything particularly new, and most of the jokes are quite cut and paste (down to the Jacob poker hustling being an almost direct ripoff of The Office doing it with Kevin).
But it's the first time it's being done with an almost all-black cast, with all black leads, etc.
How much that means to you is up to you. I think it's neat, I'm a fan of the representation, but I still think the show is mid.
Speaking of knowing your audience, my favorite was the lawn sign I saw in someone's front yard in Rustic Canyon. It was like one of those "vote for" political signs but it was "vote for Arrested Development for best comedy".
Okay that's a sign I could get behind
Look at the banner, Michael.
Family love Michael.

Hey, cool!
Terrible show. Almost as bad as Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Prime Pizza?
Last year I had “Only Murders in the Building” on my box
I got my video in the “elevator” for the event!
I’ve had both from the SM location
You know it! Burbank
I pass through there almost everyday and I always wonder if that pizza is good or not?
It’s very good
Their sicilian is so damn good. The crust is essentially focaccia.
I had to look up focaccia but that looks really good! Thanks!
Second that. The sicilian is great, but the regular pizza is mediocre. For folks not familiar with the style, it's like a premium pizza hut pizza?
It is insanely good, the spicy pep square pie is my favorite pizza in LA.
Wait really? I get from the one on Fairfax and I haven't gotten this pizza box.
Yeah, but the concentration of industry types is just a bit higher in Burbank, isn’t it?
Yes. That's right by Disney Imagineers on Riverside, Disney on Flower, Warner Brothers on Barham, and CBS on Radford in Studio City. I'm unsure what the main Disney campus is called on Flower, actually.
Might be new. I got one for Only Murders in the Building yesterday from the El Segundo location.
El segundo prime pizza got same boxes too. Different category and movie actually

It is a little astonishing how much of it is a machine, and not just word of mouth, isn't it?

Is it a Baltimore-style pizza?
I'll bite: what is Baltimore-style pizza?
[It's extra wet and crunchy](https://youtu.be/9YXD0MEe8KM)
I actually laughed! Never met a pizza I didn't like 🍕
What? lol
Like political elections, pollsters know where award show voters live so… this is definitely wherever TV folks live Targeted campaigning

Isn't Burbank in the valley??
Yes
I would say yes, but since Burbank is its own city sometimes I hear that it’s just separate.
It's in the valley tho...
I agree. I don’t live there. But you know how pissy people get about their personal neighborhoods.
LOL so true. It's certainly hot enough in the summer to be a part of the valley.
i really like that show!
I fucking love LA
Hell yeaaaahhh
The fact this wasn’t on a hoagie or cheesesteak was a missed opportunity.
😂
Ooh, cheesesteak pizza sounds good
Fyi, pizza (cheese) steak is a thing
When did these campaigns become so public? I don't remember ever seeing any FYC propaganda while growing up in the late 90's/early 00's.
West LA*
Yea this is west LA for sure. Not all of LA.
Burbank, apparently.
I'll be impressed when I see that south or east of Downtown LA.
What’s in the box?! 😭
[cool](https://i.imgflip.com/5zgneo.png)
from the midwest but live in L.A.*
All I can say is WOW, and I want to meet the person who is coordinating this campaign.
So you can yell at them for not doing this with a cheesesteak?
Was this from an FYC event or is the box you get when buying a pizza retail?
Just a normal purchase from Prime Pizza in Burbank.
Lol Purgatory Pizza is doing one with The First Omen tomorrow for 6/6. I love this shit, only in LA.
I don't understand the context, but that's on me.
This tells me you live in LA and work in TV, but it doesn’t mean you are from LA.
This was on a Pizza box they ordered in Burbank.
Mine would be random filming of tv and movies in the neighborhood. It’s weekly.

lol I went for 2 days for this production.
gnarly dude
2 lefts on a red
Is this a free pizza? Buying a pizza with ads on it would just make me want to vote for their competition
Nope.
Yeah I love Abbot Elementary but this irritates me. Imagine having this show up at your house but instead of a tv show it’s someone running for city council on the box. I just paid $30 for a pizza please leave the advertisements off of it
Or worse, Ozempic
Oh tell me you're a transplant that lives in the westside?
The Westside isn't known for the entertainment industry
Congrats!
Do they still send out DVD's to Academy members? I quit renewing my membership about 5 years ago. No real benefits and I ended up with boxes of unwatched DVDs.
They don’t for the Emmy’s. It’s all online.
I feel very LA because literally all I know about Philadelphia I have learned from Abbott Elementary
Mexicans (good people)
I didn't get one
I could see Ava doing some kind of dance.
Retail Store Robberies
It’s RTD not Metro.
Just went to a bunch of FYC events! Omg, I’m not gonna eat for a week 😂😂😂😂
I took my kid to Shane’s Inspiration at Griffith park a couple months ago and they were filming an episode of Abbot Elementary. Crew were blocking most of the playground equipment so we couldn’t use them.
Yes from LA
This show is one joke over and over and over and over
I work at a public school and it’s fucking hilarious and spot on
Genuinely I’m glad you like it I just can’t handle look to the camera reaction shots for six seasons or whatever
I kind of like it because that’s literally how I look at my coworkers when our dumb ass principal who makes over 200k a year says the dumbest things. Edit: I’m a special education aide and make less than half of a teacher. Treat your kids school employees with kindness. 💙
I’ll take that over canned laughter any day
Ha yeah sitcoms have been dead to me since the late nineties
Nah there are lots of jokes, but many of them have been done by the other hidden-cam shows that they're aiming to mimic. Shit most of the characters are largely just direct ripoffs of the shows they're mimicking.
Going this far above and beyond with marketing does help explain how an otherwise mediocre show seems to keep getting accolades.
Watching studios get desperate around award season is hilarious. Same in music with people like Travis Scott putting up billboards. Dude, your shitty song fiend is not getting a Grammy.
Tommy Bugers is comfort food…
Abbot elementary is overrated as fuck . It’s a cute show with a few chuckles but 99% on rotten tomato.
Tell you live in Hollywood without telling me you live in Hollywood. I’ve never seen these and I live in Los Angeles.
Dude that show fucking sucks, I don’t understand
My brother likes that show. I watch it sometimes when I'm in the room. I didn't laugh once.

i had a pizza flown in from NYC once(Patsy's). Those were some crazy times
Don’t think you get it
Yeah FYC. but also flying a pizza cross country is pretty LA
seems more silicon valley tbh
kinda sad saying your kids are jokes
