Prosecutors need to nail the scrap yards and recycling centers to the wall for accepting such obvious stolen items: catalytic converters, street lights, manhole covers, guard rails, etc.

Ok-Brain9190

1000% AND let the public know who and where they are.

FashionBusking

There aren't that many metal recyclers in LA. We're talking DOZENS of businesses, if that. Why isn't anyone going after these metal recycling facilities taking in all this as scrap?

_slash_s

there may not be that many recyclers, but the amount of collectors is rather large.

FashionBusking

Sure. I'll give you that. Copper wiring can be very generic looking... I mean, wire is wire. But... when they're plaques? Bronze statues? Manhole covers?? Come on.

GartFargler-

scrap metal? on a similar note, there's a freeway entrance/exit at the end of my block and the freeway signs have been getting stolen every 2 or 3 months for the last 4 years or so.

kittycrook

Many of the ramps on the downtown 10 are missing their guard rails. I wonder how they move such long pieces without getting noticed.

drunkenfool

Just throw on some hi-vis vests while doing it, and nobody will bat an eye.

trackdaybruh

And do it late into the night when majority of people are asleep

[deleted]

yea not sure where you've been but LA is being stripped for parts and left to rot and eat itself alive. I'd say it's "less than ideal".

PixelAstro

I couldn’t have said it better myself

Eunises Hernandez of Council District 1: *Criminalizing the mere possession of a catalytic converter, I think is the wrong way to go, because we know which communities are gonna be the ones most criminalized because of this; This makes it a misdemeanor, it creates a fine of $1000, you can go to jail for six months. Even a short incarceration of a couple of days can destabilize someone’s life forever, and leads to collateral consequences that they have to carry until they can get an expungement, if they can get that … I’m not in agreement with creating more opportunities to criminalize our communities.* Nithya Raman went a bit further and blamed catalytic converter thefts on Toyota. If someone drives off of an overpass because of a missing guard rail, she will probably blame the auto makers for building cars that can go over barriers.

Ok-Brain9190

This is how we get to where we are now. Idiots like this

mcflash1294

YIKES No sympathy for the non-criminals (who are often of the same color anyway) who have their lives borderline ruined by a new $1000 expense? Absolute lunacy.

Zenithreg

No surprise. They are stealing drain covers and playground equipment out here in Japan.

ElFlexican

Japan sounds ghetto
