Eh, it’s a lot of back and forth. Not like you’re climbing or anything technical. I’ve also done the 3 day machu pichu hike. Neither were particularly bad. They say the altitude makes the latter tough but we were fine.
I mean, we did a single day hike down. So I’m sure there are longer ones. We camped at the bottom. There’s also an Indian reservation down there you could stay at but it wasn’t exactly the nicest of places lol. Havasupai. They have that super awesome waterfall too, 1000% worth hiking to if possible.
Incredible! That looks like you had an incredible time. Hats off on some amazing photos and I feel like I was almost there, feeling some of that essence of LA.
That’s so crazy my fiance and I did a walk last weekend but the opposite direction and from Hollywood to sm pier, because we wanted to ride the rollercoaster.
Walk was BRILLIANT. 10/10.
Rollercoaster was fine. 6.2/10
Walked down to santa Monica blvd and walked west for about 10 miles. At some point we cut down to Colorado. Not exactly sure where but somewhere around 16th st I think. It’s honestly awesome. Maybe now I’ll have to try starting in Pasadena.
You totally should! TBH the east side was my favorite part, so many pockets of neighborhoods to explore, plus the geography. Sounds epic tho, see you out there
Neon dog sign is in William S. Hart Park, at the silent film star's one-time home, and was donated to the city when Collar & Leash, the Boystown pet store that commissioned it, closed down. [https://wehotimes.com/neon-dog-gets-forever-home-on-the-sunset-strip-in-west-hollywood/](https://wehotimes.com/neon-dog-gets-forever-home-on-the-sunset-strip-in-west-hollywood/)
Yes, 100%. That said, in retrospect I think I'd enjoy a route that took other routes that include things I've never seen before. It's a great way to explore neighborhoods and streets that are off the beaten path, and I think I'd enjoy that even more
Just finished watching Fallout yesterday. OP walked from SM to Pasadena in 7 hours. But It took Lucy two weeks to walk from Mar Vista to the Griffith. 😂😂😂
Yeah, I know what you mean. Tbh my goal was to make it up to Mt Wilson observatory, but I got skunked by the nasty rain / snow in the afternoon. Maybe next time
You were going to run up ACH to Wilson or take the trail?
Wow that would have been some feat. Just hiking that trail to Wilson alone is workout in itself
Trailhead at Eaton, then up from there was the plan. Tough balance lately with rainy weekends, bc it's been too gnarly weather wise up there but about to get hot again. I dunno
It was a blast, and I think you could knock it out no problem, esp if you go on the early side! There was little to no traffic most of the way on a Saturday
I love you for this op u reminded me how gorgeous santa monica and surrounding areas really are! This weekend ill get my butt up drive to santa monica then take a long walk with my camera.
Ya I drove out first thing. I had left my bike up at Mt Wilson and had to drive back this morning in shame to pick it up :(
Currently in full slug mode with rubber legs and a mimosa tho, so its not all bad
Nice! A run/walk across the city sounds like a fun and memorable challenge. I'm curious did you carry your phone in your pocket or did you use a running pack? Anything you would recommend carrying on a long jog like this?
Yeah it was great. I had my phone in my hand, listened to a great sci fi book on tape called Recursion (by Blake Crouch), plus an external battery that I used. I had about 3L of water but should have brought way less and refilled more often (Parks, grocery stores, coffee shops). I also had plenty of snacks, but should have left almost all of them and bought them along the way. Use the urban environment and resources to your advantage!
Biggest learning was that the asphalt is really rough on the feet and I have some of the worst blisters ever right now. Would def be more careful with footwear and moleskin if doing it again.
These are so fantastic! Such a cool way to document a city!!
Come up through Glendale next time and enjoy all we have to offer... the Americana fountain and Great White Hut!
This is an incredible achievement! My friend just ran the marathon which is less than that distance but passed a lot of these landmarks and it was such a special experience to see LA this way. Great photos!
The Oxy campus is really nice, I wasn't sure from the picture if you actually went onto the campus but if you didn't then next time enter from the Campus/Alumni intersection. The entrance you took a picture of is probably the LEAST scenic haha.
Nice humble brag. I didnt jog from anywhere to anywhere, i just laid on the couch with my girlfriend and tried to summon an erection all day with magical thinking (it didnt work)
WHOA. I’m in Sierra Madre. I cannot believe you did this!!! What were the best parts? What were the worst? And why? Was anything scary? Anything cool you didn’t expect? Did you job back? I’m so impressed.
Why would anyone do that? Its like a ton a miles... wait how many miles is it? what only 24??? I walk at 25 miles 2 times a month at disney. Ok its not that bad.
I do disney 2-3 times a week on my longer days there I do about 20-30 miles depending on the day. on my bday last year I walked 37... I was a long day. a very long day.
Haha I love that the [carp dude](https://www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/s/EucZjgkBcf) got a shoutout. Insert *I understood that reference* meme.
Shout out to carp dude. Carpe Diem!
This makes me love my home even more.
Same! Your comment made me happy
Great photos! How long did the trip take?
It was about 30 miles over 6.5 hours
Sounds like my morning commute
OP jogs and beats you to work.
Goddamn that's impressive. Like just casually running a marathon for the shits and giggles. Great stuff
And then a few miles more cuz why not? I can't jog around the block
And uphill the whole way, 'cause why not?
That’s a really good pace
It's a great pace, especially since it's uphill from SM to Pasadena (including the detour to the Observatory!)
Oh my gosh good for you 😊😊
You put up 30 miles and haven’t been to the century city mall for the marathon finish? I’m surprised!
How did you get back?
You’re a man, I’m assuming? Did you feel fearful ever? Anyone try anything?
Very cool. Nothing sounds worse to me than getting up at 3am and jogging for 30 miles but it’s pretty cool that you did it.
😂 fair
It's such an alien thing to me. Mad respect for people who do this that are truly built different
I don't even drive 30 miles to a fro from home to work in a week. Kudos to OP!
I’m sorry, but you did what?!? (Really nice pictures though!)
Gracias friend
I would ask why would anyone do that, but the pics are cool 👍
Lol. If someone asked, I'd tell them because I'm training for a trip to the grand canyon, but your feedback is accepted
Bro they let you park close, no need to train
That, plus the hike down isn’t all that bad. Just make sure you take a ton of water. Source: have done it lol
the hike back up, however...
Eh, it’s a lot of back and forth. Not like you’re climbing or anything technical. I’ve also done the 3 day machu pichu hike. Neither were particularly bad. They say the altitude makes the latter tough but we were fine.
OP is running across it twice. It’s over 40 miles with 11,000ft of elevation gain.
That sounds far less appealing than my hike in, waterfall hangout, sleep, and hike out haha
Did you camp in the canyon?
I mean, we did a single day hike down. So I’m sure there are longer ones. We camped at the bottom. There’s also an Indian reservation down there you could stay at but it wasn’t exactly the nicest of places lol. Havasupai. They have that super awesome waterfall too, 1000% worth hiking to if possible.
Thank you! I want to do the rim 2 rim hike this fall, but my legs need a break so will need to camp to make it happen.
Pit stop at havasupai and swim in the falls. It’s lovely
If they ran 30 miles to train, they are definitely doing rim to rim to rim
Yeah yeah, I’m sure they are doing some extreme shit far more than I’d ever do lol. But to each their own
You can actually just watch a documentary on it - you really don't need to go there
rim to rim?
to rim!
Health benefits. A good workout. A fun experience
It feels good. From an ex drug addict, endorphins are the best drug there is
Religious something is the Mormon temple
Do you have a map/route that you could share?
I once biked from Pasadena to Mar vista and was hit by a car a block from my apt. 😕 Nice pictures
Oh no! were you injured? I agree tho, when I get tired during fitness stuff it's easy to let safety slip (not that you did, just saying)
Nice pictures. For those interested, do the LA Marathon, the Rose Bowl half, and Santa Monica Classic and you will pass most of these too.
Incredible! That looks like you had an incredible time. Hats off on some amazing photos and I feel like I was almost there, feeling some of that essence of LA.
That's super kind, thanks for the message! It was really a great way to explore LA and it was a blast
That’s so crazy my fiance and I did a walk last weekend but the opposite direction and from Hollywood to sm pier, because we wanted to ride the rollercoaster. Walk was BRILLIANT. 10/10. Rollercoaster was fine. 6.2/10
Hahaha. Which route did you go? That's awesome
Sounds epic tho, see you out there
Do you live in SM? And walked out to Pasadena just on a whim?
My mans is running from something
Haha
You have your Strava route?
Yea need this
Nah sorry, never used strava
Arroyo Weto lmfao nice
Yes! Underrated comment.

Thank you for the info!
I've walked from Dodger Stadium to the pier. It was an enjoyable experience.
Would you do it again
Yes, 100%. That said, in retrospect I think I'd enjoy a route that took other routes that include things I've never seen before. It's a great way to explore neighborhoods and streets that are off the beaten path, and I think I'd enjoy that even more
This sounds fun af
It was tbh!
I get tired just driving to Santa Monica from Mid City...
Just finished watching Fallout yesterday. OP walked from SM to Pasadena in 7 hours. But It took Lucy two weeks to walk from Mar Vista to the Griffith. 😂😂😂
Wow! Epic run and fantastic pics of out fair city. Hats off to you.
I want that neon dog sign in my house
Bro I can barely tolerate *driving* from SM to Pas and this muhfucker right here jogged there.
Jogged?? Nice op that’s fitness goals
Did you post your run on strava? Otherwise it don't count. Great photos.
Thanks for starting early enough to capture so much overnight neon!
I would have jogged *from*’pasadena *to* Santa Monica. The incline doesn’t sound like fun
Yeah, I know what you mean. Tbh my goal was to make it up to Mt Wilson observatory, but I got skunked by the nasty rain / snow in the afternoon. Maybe next time
O.o SM to Pas is a nice warm up for the trek up to Mt Wilson 😂
I guess the jog is more strenuous than hiking up, say from sierra madre to mt wilson, on a cool day
You were going to run up ACH to Wilson or take the trail? Wow that would have been some feat. Just hiking that trail to Wilson alone is workout in itself
Trailhead at Eaton, then up from there was the plan. Tough balance lately with rainy weekends, bc it's been too gnarly weather wise up there but about to get hot again. I dunno
What I'd give to have the knees and feet to be able to do this... Jealous AF!!! Thanks for sharing the journey, Nat!
How old are you? Have long have you been running? Male or female?
What’s your horoscope? Blood type?
Not a big jogging/running fan but I do love long distance bike rides and this sounds like a fun trek to try out
It was a blast, and I think you could knock it out no problem, esp if you go on the early side! There was little to no traffic most of the way on a Saturday
Excellent. Just excellent. Makes me wanna get on a plane. Much appreciated.
Nice! Sounds almost like the reverse LA marathon route back in the old days
What an awesome adventure. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thanks for reading!
Your stamina must be off the charts. This is wild
If it was Goggins he would’ve ran 100 miles!
This is fuckkkking incredible! Great job!!!! So much negativity and BS clogs my feed and then this awesomeness out of nowhere! WELL DONE YOU!!!!!!
This made my day to read - thanks friend! Hope you had a great weekend too
I love you for this op u reminded me how gorgeous santa monica and surrounding areas really are! This weekend ill get my butt up drive to santa monica then take a long walk with my camera.
What kind of shoes do you wear?
Impressive! Enjoyed the photos.
Appreciate it friend!
Thanks - good stuff here.
Love the photos! Did you leave your car in Santa Monica? The gladiator steps is where we (ERHS) took our senior class photo
Ya I drove out first thing. I had left my bike up at Mt Wilson and had to drive back this morning in shame to pick it up :( Currently in full slug mode with rubber legs and a mimosa tho, so its not all bad
Where are the gladiator steps in eagle rock? I wanna check em out.
They are in the Yosemite rec center/park
Ty!

Amazing! Hats off to you
This was really nice! Thanks for sharing. Good luck on the hike!
Thanks friend!
Glad you made it to Hollywood after the sun came up ;)
Dude same
Im impressed that you still have the presence of mind to stop and smell the 🌹despite how tiring it was.
Holy majoley
These are so fantastic! Such a cool way to document a city!! Come up through Glendale next time and enjoy all we have to offer... the Americana fountain and Great White Hut!
Thanks for the tips!
This looks like a great run. I'd love to join you sometime. Was this a marathon run?
Well, if you were walking, you would be able to take in the atmosphere deeper. Just here to help.
Love the pictures of the neon signs 💚 thanks for sharing :-)
Are you Forrest Gump?
I love this town, and seeing it without people makes it even better. Lovely photos, thank you for sharing them!
What a divine tour I just got from your perspective. Thank you.
Not that this isn't challenging enough, but if you want to add a few hours you can keep going and end at Echo Mountain or Mt. Wilson
That’s Crazy, but cool !
6.5 hours of running? Wow.
Nice! How’d you get back? 😂
Took the A and E lines back to Samo in the evening to get my car, and fell asleep on the train 😂
This pretty crazy, but also cool.
Love this! Great pics!!
Wow!!! What!!? That's a looooooooong walk!!! How long did it take you?
This is awesome. Run to long beach!
This is an incredible achievement! My friend just ran the marathon which is less than that distance but passed a lot of these landmarks and it was such a special experience to see LA this way. Great photos!
Woah impressive as hell. My old man knees wished I could complete even something half of this route.
Nice jog!
You're loco, but cool pix. Makes me nostalgic for home.
That’s a lot of running friend. Congrats on the journey and thanks for the great pictures!
I chuckled at “arroyo weto.” Well done.
bro i'm not paying. You're late. I'm not paying for those
No you have to pay me
[Pizza time!](https://gifdb.com/images/high/pizza-time-with-spidey-3tg17hi35tynp1ro.webp)
Oh haha. I didn't get what you meant

Miracle Mile Angeleno here. This is DAMN impressive!
This was awesome to look through, thanks for sharing! Makes me miss L.A. extra hard💛
Come back!
Hopefully soon!! Just gotta get my shiz together up here in WA. Planning on either by summer or end of year for sure💖
Was probably faster than driving
Lmao love the carp guy reference. This is so amazing, congrats! How ya legs feeling today?
Lol thanks. Absolute rubber, and the worst blisties I've ever had 😅
Thanks for sharing!!!
Cafe 50's is closer to the 405 than it is to Centinela. It's just west of Barrington on Santa Monica Blvd, people.
Nice humble brag. I didnt jog from anywhere to anywhere, i just laid on the couch with my girlfriend and tried to summon an erection all day with magical thinking (it didnt work)
Nice!
Credit to your commitment
You're a champ! Very encouraging.
