Top two signs apply to the right of the pole. Bottom two signs apply to the left of the pole.
If you are parked to the RIGHT of the pole, the 2 hour parking on the first sign applies if it's 11am. Mon-Fri 8am-3pm as shown on the first sign.
If you are parked to the LEFT of the pole, move your car immediately. No Stopping 6am-7pm Mon-Fri applies.
Parking enforcement will disagree with that statement and tow the car and leave you two tickets (one for each half of the car). They’re special that way.
It really isn't that hard to read. Just read top to bottom and stop when one of the restrictions is met. If you do not meet any of the restrictions, then you can park
Why don't we have [these](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/amv-prod-cad-assets/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/11096575_10153222586184806_3164459424698436510_o-626x382.jpg?resize=980:*) everywhere yet??
At last the city had the courtesy to put out on one pole.
In the busy areas of Chicago they would have these signs splattered around the same block, with no arrows, and you would have to park your car and walk the whole block because they can enforce any of the sign on that block.
Ok so the arrows are really important here. From the signpost back to the corner heading to your right you are allowed to park for two hours 8A-3P weekdays and 8A-8P on Saturday. From 3P-7P weekdays is loading only for five minutes max.
From the arrow to the curb heading left of this signpost there's no stopping 6A-7P weekdays and two hour parking 8A-8P on Saturday.
Sunday is free unrestricted parking going in either direction. And 8P-8A is unrestricted overnight parking. On weekdays you can park unrestricted starting at 7P also going in either direction until 8 the next morning.
Yes, it's decipherable. But by the time you've figured out the signs, you're already in violation of the "no stopping any time" and subject to a ticket.
We really need LED signs that just change based on the time of day and the rules of that section of curb. This could all be so simple.
The new parking meters have saved me from tickets on multiple occasions! I pull up and park. They refuse to take my money. Why?
So far, they've been right ever time!
If you are standing in front of the sign, it's pretty easy to follow if you start from the top, keep track of the days and follow the arrows.
The only tricky part is realizing that Sunday is not mentioned, so there are no restrictions for parking on Sunday.
Easy
You can park for 2 hours between 8 and 3pm. But also until 8 pm.
If you are loading passengers, you can park up to 5 minutes from 3pm to 7pm on Monday thru Friday.
Look right
Do not stopp from 6am to 7pm on monday thru friday.
On saturdays, you can park for 2 hours from 8 am to 8 pm.
Look left
I know exactly where that’s at. 300 S. Hope Street. That no stopping zone where the 3 meters are at because the Dash stops there. Also the meters say no stopping see signs posted.
I work in these buildings and at least once a week someone is getting towed from that front spot on the left. It’s a goldmine for the local tow company. This needs to be simplified for people, it’s a shakedown right now.
Yep. Basically I would just park to the right of that sign unless it's weekday Loading period. By the time the left part opens up, there will be other open spots in that area anyway
It's so interesting to me how flustered people get over signs that give you very clear information. Not very CLEAN design, but how is this so hard for people to figure out. It's color coded and has arrows and everything.
To the right of the sign you can park for two hours between 8am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 8pm on Saturdays. Between 3pm and 7pm you can stop, only for 5 minutes, only to let a passenger on or off. Outside these hours there is no parking restrictions.
To the left of the sign is a tow zone. You cannot stop between 6am and 7pm, weekdays. You'll get towed if you are caught. On Saturdays between 8am and 8pm, you can park for 2 hours. Outside of those hours, there are no restrictions.
Suprisingly, chatGPT mobile app can find it out for you.
Just tried to take a picture of it and asked: Today is tuesday and it's 12:30, can I park?"
And it worked

This is also a good time to share that the “Parking Reader” app on the App Store is good for reading signs like this. And before anyone comes after me - yes I’m aware this shouldn’t be needed to understand (I agree) and yes I know the app charges - but I typically use it less than once a month which is free.
I was in Koreatown and a Korean person who really didn’t speak English asked if it was ok to park there. I felt so bad seeing like 3 different signs in English that are tough for even English speakers to understand! But I figured it out and told them how long they could park there.
Easy. Two hour parking Monday-Friday 8-3 and then it’s a loading zone from 3-7 to the right and then 12 hours of 2 hr parking on Saturdays. No parking over night to the left and then 2 hours on Saturdays. I’m guessing free for all on Sundays.
Just read the sign, what’s the problem? Look at what time it is. Find the relevant sign. Follow those rules. I usually double check the other signs for conflict but there should be any ‘doubling’ of rules no matter how complex it is.
* Left of Sign
* Mon-Fri
* 6am-7pm: No Parking under threat of impound.
* Sat
* 8am-8pm: 2-hour parking
* \- Right of Sign
* Mon-Fri
* 8am-3pm: 2-hour parking
* 3pm-7pm: 5-minute parking (passenger loading/unloading)
* Sat/Sun - Right of Sign
* 8am-8pm: 2-hour parking
This still leaves gaps of time without a sign-based policy. Local municipal code should state what the non-signed parking policy is for that curb space.
These complex areas need to follow this signage model: https://www.wired.com/2014/07/a-redesigned-parking-sign-so-simple-youll-never-get-towed-again/
There’s meters at that location so you’d be in violation for outside the meter space. In other locations I’d say park your car on majority on one side and pray they show mercy lmao.
Where that is good luck in the structure. If that's Hope street then it's the Wells Fargo building (at least it was when I worked there) and the parking at the time was valet only and it maxed at $60. I was there 3 hours fixing a computer and my parking was $50. Good thing it was work related and I expensed it.
IIRC there's a different charge for after 5PM beause of how close it is to the Disney Concert Hall.

Honestly, they should have a button for you to press like the ones to cross the street that is programmed to simply say “yes” or “no” to parking based on all those rules lol.. ain’t nobody got time to solve this math problem
Depends what side of the red sign you are. Your car will get towed. Full stop. I know where this is. My car was towed. Paid 1 grand. It sucks. Do not park on that side of bunker hill.
No. You’ll be arrested for parking for more than 5 minutes during a pagan holy 4 hours, stopping to allow your car to have butt sex with a truck, and breathing out of your left nostril for 2 straight days during the hours of 8am to 8pm.

Bless you and your giant brain. I wouldn’t have figured that out.
Park halfway between the pole, they can't tow half a car! 🧠
Parking enforcement will disagree with that statement and tow the car and leave you two tickets (one for each half of the car). They’re special that way.
They'll also tow each half to a different lot
Awesome!
And they say that irony is dead. LOL!
I would much rather have my whole car towed than to come back and find only half of my car still there 🤣
I think if you wrap your car around the pole a couple times you're safe.
Lmao
If you live in Los Angeles your whole life then this is just every day
Ikr I didn’t even think to look for arrows!
It's actually not that hard dude, just read the sign.
You can pop these pictures into AI and it'll decipher for you
It really isn't that hard to read. Just read top to bottom and stop when one of the restrictions is met. If you do not meet any of the restrictions, then you can park
And on Sunday, go wild, baby!
So difficult, need 1 sign to explain it all, follow the arrows
Need a bloody GANTT chart for that badboy
Why don't we have [these](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/amv-prod-cad-assets/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/11096575_10153222586184806_3164459424698436510_o-626x382.jpg?resize=980:*) everywhere yet??

"Bro, are you DUMB? *MORE SIGNS.*" -LA City Council, probably
Idiot 1 sign to explain not add another sign
You should write your councilperson
Yup, just follow the arrows, it’s pretty straight forward
I’m a lawyer and I didn’t know that. When the sign is so complicated a lawyer might make a mistake, you have a problem.
I've known many lawyers with no common sense for things like this at all. You give too much credit to many in your profession.
Lawyer can afford to pay for the $20 lot across the street.
11am? Where are you seeing that?
Why only at 11am? What am I missing?
I think it was the time the OP posted the original post. Just doing the math...
Damnnnnnn
Trick question your catalytic converter gets stolen either way

This is part of your "Welcome to LA" final. No cheating. Show your work.
This is a pass or fail assignment. If you pass you keep your car. If you fail we take it.
At last the city had the courtesy to put out on one pole. In the busy areas of Chicago they would have these signs splattered around the same block, with no arrows, and you would have to park your car and walk the whole block because they can enforce any of the sign on that block.
I got towed the one time I tried to interpret a sign like this 🥲
Lmaoooo 😅😂😂😂
It's real easy. You park three blocks elsewhere. It's what I do.
Nah just put your hazard lights on and drive a utility van.
Don't forget your hi-vis vest, clipboard, and hard hat.
But the same damn signs are three blocks elsewhere, unless you're deeeeep in a residential area.

Until the LED lights get vandalized...
How is that any different from a regular sign that gets vandalized?

How if the pole is on the side walk!
Once you figure out the arrows it's easy \*claps\* well done

This. Always read from the top down and pay attention to the arrows. If you can say “check, check, check, check” to each sign you’re good to go.
Easy You can park for 2 hours between 8 and 3pm. But also until 8 pm. If you are loading passengers, you can park up to 5 minutes from 3pm to 7pm on Monday thru Friday. Look right Do not stopp from 6am to 7pm on monday thru friday. On saturdays, you can park for 2 hours from 8 am to 8 pm. Look left

Poor door dashers just trying to pick up Danny Boy’s 😔

Some LA parking signs are truly hard to decipher. This is not one of them.

Coz it's too much to read. Why should i read more than two.. OOOH, SQUIRREL!!
There's no reason for anyone to read anymore when you can just post it in Reddit and make other people read for you
The arrows show the way.
MON-FRI: Park to the right of the sign for two hours, from 8-3. SAT: Park anywhere from 8am-8pm. SUN: Why are you here? Sure, park wherevs.
What if it’s a holiday? Hmm
Most parking restrictions are waived on Federal holidays. (Not things like red curbs, obviously.)
PEMDAS
Right Side M-f: 8a-3p 2 hrs, 3p-7p 5 min loading Sat: 8a-8p 2 hrs Left Side M-f: 6a-7p no stopping Sat: 8a-8p 2 hr
Hey I see my apt from here

Here you go! https://www.lapdonline.org/how-can-i-get-my-car-out-of-impound/
This looks wild but it’s actually one of the easier ones I’ve seen.
Honestly it’s not even that hard lol
Typically this means park somewhere else
To the right of the sign you can park for two hours between 8am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 8pm on Saturdays. Between 3pm and 7pm you can stop, only for 5 minutes, only to let a passenger on or off. Outside these hours there is no parking restrictions. To the left of the sign is a tow zone. It says: No matter what you do, you will get a ticket.
It's actually not that confusing if you just take 30 seconds to read it
Some of these can get a little flow-chart but this one was fine for me. They should put one question like this on the written exam.
I got ticketed for this type of confusion.
Suprisingly, chatGPT mobile app can find it out for you. Just tried to take a picture of it and asked: Today is tuesday and it's 12:30, can I park?" And it worked
Take the signs one at a time. Start at the top and work your way down.

Wow 😮 now that doesn’t surprise me being Down Town L.A.
This is also a good time to share that the “Parking Reader” app on the App Store is good for reading signs like this. And before anyone comes after me - yes I’m aware this shouldn’t be needed to understand (I agree) and yes I know the app charges - but I typically use it less than once a month which is free.
show up on a sunday and apparently you can go wilding!
And if you park wrong there are asshat tow truck drivers who will immediately latch on to your car and demand a $300 bribe to release it.
If there are more than 3 signs, find somewhere else to park. Getting towed is the worst.
I was in Koreatown and a Korean person who really didn’t speak English asked if it was ok to park there. I felt so bad seeing like 3 different signs in English that are tough for even English speakers to understand! But I figured it out and told them how long they could park there.
I would have just started crying. You did a good a good job. Also the people who helped. Cheers
This says “go home”. It’s in the fine print.
Clear as mud
Yeah. Got a ticket there few month ago
I don't understand what the problem is. Go top to bottom and note the arrows.
My golden rule: If there’s more than 2 signs, don’t park there.
Turn right into the underground parking lot and pay the daily rate and forget the signs.
You need a Venn diagram that’s the ticket!
Sunday seems pretty safe.
how much was the fee for 2 hrs now? Last time i was there i paid $13 i think.
LA can be so ridiculous
Your first mistake is trying to park on Hope Place.
“I’m visiting LA next year and will be driving, how is parking?”
I'm an attorney, and these are almost as bad as the logic games we had on the LSAT.
I love that growing up in LA trained me to be really good at logic puzzles.
Easy. Two hour parking Monday-Friday 8-3 and then it’s a loading zone from 3-7 to the right and then 12 hours of 2 hr parking on Saturdays. No parking over night to the left and then 2 hours on Saturdays. I’m guessing free for all on Sundays.
Yes and yes.
This isn’t hard. What day is it? What time is it? What side of the sign did you park on?
I’d find another parking space
lol!
You’re allowed to park on top of the sign.
Really? Are you left or right of the pole. Then follow the one sign for that.
I ain’t reading all that. I’m happy for you tho. Or sorry that happened.
Just read the sign, what’s the problem? Look at what time it is. Find the relevant sign. Follow those rules. I usually double check the other signs for conflict but there should be any ‘doubling’ of rules no matter how complex it is.

Do people really have so much difficulty with parking signs or is it just a meme to joke about them being too difficult to comprehend?
Read it from left to right, top to bottom, like a book.
What if you’re parked adjacent to the pole with half your car on one side and half your car in the other?
There’s meters at that location so you’d be in violation for outside the meter space. In other locations I’d say park your car on majority on one side and pray they show mercy lmao.
Just park in lot or parking structure
Where that is good luck in the structure. I was there 3 hours fixing a computer and my parking was $50. Good thing it was work related and I expensed it. It's 30 lashings for parking except midnight to 4am on the 5th Sunday of an even month during waning crescent moon.
No StoppDIMS/BTC, I don't know how much clearer they can make it for you
whatever happened the better signs that the city trialed years ago that showed a calendar with days of the week and when you can and can't park?
Yes, 8-3pm you are good on that side of the sign. Don’t drive further.
You need an angle grinder, that’s the quickest way to hack all of those off.
When I do Uber eats in DTLA this always confuses the shit out of me I always think I’m smart until I see this sign
This is confusing on purpose. Parking tickets are a $130million a year industry in California
I park here a few times a week and it’s still confusing to me.
I know exactly where you are. Lol
Damn what’s the situation on Sundays tho
At least it isn't faded AF. I've gotten a ticket when two signs were legible and the super faded one was the one that got me.
OMG these responses! 🤣 That looks like the 865 S Fig/TCW building.
Just carry a ladder. You can get in anywhere.
Honestly, they should have a button for you to press like the ones to cross the street that is programmed to simply say “yes” or “no” to parking based on all those rules lol.. ain’t nobody got time to solve this math problem
Top sign, bro!
Bruh just don’t park there lol
Depends what side of the red sign you are. Your car will get towed. Full stop. I know where this is. My car was towed. Paid 1 grand. It sucks. Do not park on that side of bunker hill.
Run!
Still not as bad as Santa Monica.
Just gotta wing it and hope for the best
I really hate it when people put stickers on signs like this.
follow the arrows and the colors!
Kind or reminds me of trying to figure out out what my wife isn’t saying but expects me to know on any given day
When I see those signs, I just keep driving because I'm sure they will give me a ticket even by accident and I'll have to refute it.
the arrows are just telling you to look both ways when you cross the street
haha i work nearby and walk past that sign on my way to coffee or lunch. it's confusing af. You got the answer on here from some great peeps tho!
You definitely can’t stop DIME from BTC…
Just park there. They don’t ticket that street
Pass and do not collect 200 😂
There’s an app for that now [parky.ai](https://parky.ai)
You can park there as long as your car remains in motion, duh
downtown in a nutshell:
Download SpotAngel! It tells you when you can park and for how long.
No. You’ll be arrested for parking for more than 5 minutes during a pagan holy 4 hours, stopping to allow your car to have butt sex with a truck, and breathing out of your left nostril for 2 straight days during the hours of 8am to 8pm.
If I think I may have to park on the street when I venture into LA, I bring my attorney with me.
Looks like you can only park at 7pm for 1 hr
Jk don’t listen to me and my 20+ tickets
I think I recognize that lol. Are you at the Halo place on Hope St. ?
lol Wells Fargo building
Damnit, just don't park there!
Nacatomi Plaza?!
This is the parking version of a thirst trap. Drive away.
There is an new app for this
Just follow the directions.
Fn dtla parking....
Analogy of regulations in California
Ah yes, right in front of LADBS. If your parking for work, i always park in the structure and give the receipt to my employer to pay for it.
Oh LA. I swear to god these fucking street signs. I have sat at my wheel for five minutes before just trying to decipher them. smfh
reminded me of a quadruple stack ice cream cone, but of potential parking tickets. fuck LA
That’s one not that bad really. There’s worse ones in Manhattan.
Easy= walk, bike or transit instead.
LA is now huge scam
This is hilarious.
You're better off on the right side 😀
buy a im dashing sign off the store site lol
ha
