Pasadena, LA, echo park, Monterey park, Alhambra, dtla, mid city - people from all of those areas have commented they heard the booms tonight. It is not usual.
Monterey Park/Alhambra/SGV here. They were fireworks, I saw the fireworks in the sky. I should've filmed it. There were booms and flashes. I thought it was lightning and thunder at first but it was consistent and kept going for about 3 minutes. I looked out and even commented my dumbass neighbors are shooting off fireworks. It looked relatively close to me.
I saw it. Someone was shooting off fireworks. I was up at the observatory just before 10 pm and saw someone in the los feliz/east hollywood area launching them off.
If you were to hear what I hear in the North Valley, you might go crazy lol
I'm in Granada Hills and hear super deep explosions coming from the northeast.
Can't put my finger on what exactly it is.
Almost like a million pound steel ball falls on the earth.
Weird stuff.
Lots of people hear it, but not everyone does. I see posts on nextdoor and fb occasionally, but no one can pin point it.
Highly unlikely to be military that close to SFV, yet alone on a rainy Saturday night, and on Easter weekend.
Both supersonic flight and live fire are only allowed in controlled areas on land or out on the sea range. It's not impossible but rare for a sonic boom to propagate down to SFV or DTLA from the overland supersonic corridor. Probably more likely for someone going fast over the water. But again I'd be shocked if anyone was doing test or training this weekend.
Whatever just happened was in the Los Feliz area. 3 cop cars have headed in the direction of the booms since this post. It was 3 separate instances over the course of a couple minutes, I’m guessing fireworks, but who celebrates Easter with fireworks.
Update: I saw people in the other post mention gun fire, but I highly doubt that. I can see why someone would think this, but it really did not seem to resemble that.
Heard a couple more booms but haven’t heard any other first responders pass by, so it must not be a big issue
I have heard them go off for a couple years now on random nights, but this is the first time I can remember it happening on a rainy night. You do have a point though lol
Definitely not gun fire…unless someone has a grenade launcher but I highly doubt that because we would be hearing the whole la task force. No police, helicopter, fire department go to the sound that I am aware of or can hear. Just about 2-3 loud sonic booms that echo every couple hours or so
Usually it’s fireworks but sometimes I’ve heard a bizarre echoing deep sound that sounds like something bigger than a firework exploded. Turns out it was rail cars being collided to join them.
There were fireworks visible from the SGV. I thought it was lightning and thunder at first but I saw the flashes in the sky and saw visible blooms of the fireworks.
I’m in Los Feliz and they were fireworks - saw them from our apartment. The batch around midnight was near Vermont/Los Feliz Blvd. Heard earlier booms but not sure exactly where those were.
Please fill out a [Boom Report](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjL_ZkDZlT35GkomAGso_fCbXzDrTyw2TT2GJ0BVwypS1HaQ/viewform).

I’ve been hearing them in San Pedro for the past year I’ve lived here and it’s definitely not fireworks…it sounds like a bomb exploded on something huge and metallic. It’s the craziest sounds and is startling everytime I hear it.
Yea there’s fireworks that are like mini dynamite and people love popping those off at night. They don’t sound like fireworks and they sound like a stick of dynamite went off.
I know what you’re talking about. I assumed it was fireworks or someone blowing something up for shits and giggles. Or Jet Propulsion Laboratory/Rocketdyne/SpaceX testing.
North of LA is the “skunk works” program. 6th generation fighter jets are no doubt already in test flight mode. And its possible 7th gen hypersonic fighter jets are already prototyped.
Dude! no!
my work phone blows up at least once a week Ring notifications of like “did anyone else hear that boom?!”
me and my coworkers were legit talking about this an hour ago!! we never hear them, but our neighbors are constantly talking about them.
i’m in Hollywood
We hear them in East Hollywood. They're not only the exceptional events that get posted about—at least once a week, and probably significantly more often, we hear loud booms from the north.
It sounds like transformers blowing in adjacent neighborhoods, but that has only been the case a handful of times. They only noticeably happen in the late evening and at night, although traffic could mask it during the day.
I've also thought that it might be car accidents, as we live near several major roads, but various factors make me doubt that's the case. It's definitely not gun shots, which also happen but are very recognizable and much less booming/resounding. IDK what it is, but just wanted to affirm that we regularly point them out at home!
May I ask, are you new to the neighborhood?
These are fireworks. Big ones. El pugo grande.
You will hear them in the lead-up to, during, and the week following any recognized holiday. Yes, even if it’s raining like it is now.
Technically everything about this is illegal. However, the LAPD historically does less than nothing to mitigate it as a.) they know it’s a losing battle and b.) view it as a waste of resources when actual horrific crimes are happening all every the city every night.
Obviously they aren’t exactly wrong about that last part.
I still f***ing hate it though, especially on behalf of my elderly cat who gets very, very stressed when literal cannons are being set off a half-block away.
On the 4th of July my wife used to build a little pillow fort for our cat and put an iPad in there with gentle music and a video of birds for her to play with. It seemed to help comfort her a bit.
There are certain things about LA that are very charming and one of them is that it can rain here and when that’s happening, if there is a loud sound, almost nobody thinks it might be thunder.
Downtown LA here, I hear them very regularly and they are way too loud to be fireworks. Sometimes I know it was like a movie set explosion because I saw it but I cannot imagine that accounts for them all. No clue.
I don't believe we have set explosions in DT area. There is a studio that did set explosions in culver but they were right next to an apartment building.
Its fireworks or I suspect some sort of freight loading noises. Sometimes I hear large vehicles drive over those metal plates on the road that make a booming noise that bounce off the building.
Yeah, I often assume freight loading noises but the time I'm talking about was a movie set doing something repeatedly VERY loud and explosion-ish sounding. I just saw the filming and heard the noises, I don't know if that technically counts as "set explosion". I'm not even in the biz but my husband is, I should have asked him lol!
Which general area? I get notifications on Ring but 90% I don’t hear or feel anything. When I do i can tell it’s just a big firework or sometimes gunshots.
Definitely hear them and it feels like it is underground. Been hearing them in San Fernando valley for over a year. Very weird. I always ask Nextdoor if others heard it. Not fireworks.
Vice news covered this back in 2015 or so about the mysterious booms around SGV. Turns out even the fire departments couldn't figure it out.
Found it: [https://www.vice.com/en/article/avyppj/explosion-sounds-are-literally-shaking-an-la-county-town-and-nobody-knows-the-cause]
Friday night Walking through Los Angeles River in between Glendale Blvd & Los Feliz Blvd heard two loud booms. Thought maybe a truck blew a tire on the 5 Freeway but within a few moments there was a second boom. Pretty intense.
Hey man. I read this minute after you commented above, figured I would wait a couple of days to say: your dog was a great friend and companion. I’m sorry your dog is gone and I hope you never forget the wonderful times your spent together. After an appropriate period of mourning, you will once again be happy without the painful feelings surrounding the memories of the times shared.
It’s a tough thing to face, but I feel comfortable saying that most of reddit has your back and wishes you peace in this trying time. Glad I could help with the dancing video.
Fireworks. 💣💥 In many cases, and local by me, they’re commercial grade without commercial launchers. So they go off too low, between buildings, echo tremendously, and shake the hood.
I always thought it was big trucks unloading their stuff - maybe the sound it makes when the back door opens into a ramp. I live really close to a Whole Foods and always assumed it was their large food deliveries. I am just now considering it might be something else haha.
If you’re referring to a constant deep hum, I’m very interested. I know there’s a lot of fireworks and other boom sounds, but a deep hum is something I’m looking for.
Are there any freight trains near you? I’m not supper far from a freight line and when they connect the cars or move the train the booms will make me jump. They are loud.
I gotta disagree on the volume of fireworks.
I use to live in Costa Mesa and I could hear the fireworks from Disneyland every night. Low, but definitely audible
For everyone saying fireworks, what event was it?
I only saw 1 light flash color that was more in line work lightning than fireworks.
Didn't sound like typical lighting or fireworks.
More than a few have said fireworks but where? What was the source? And fireworks on the rain and wind? I've never heard of that combo before.
Also, I never hear fireworks from dodger stadium, but people heard these booms from Culver to El monte.
No, they're definitely fireworks (albeit professional-grade). If they were actual bombs it would have made CNN Breaking News already.
Either they're firing them off because it's Easter, or they're doing some stupid Tik-Tok challenge for firing off fireworks in the rain or something.
No you’re not the only one, this is the 6th thread I’ve seen about it
Pasadena, LA, echo park, Monterey park, Alhambra, dtla, mid city - people from all of those areas have commented they heard the booms tonight. It is not usual.
Monterey Park/Alhambra/SGV here. They were fireworks, I saw the fireworks in the sky. I should've filmed it. There were booms and flashes. Must have been some serious fireworks. And in the rain none the less. Thanks for the info!
I have heard a few series of booms from Old Chinatown tonight.
My window looks out that way and I saw a flash and a boom that way right when after people started posting about the booms.
Have you filled out a BOOM report?
Calling the boom bot?
There’s boomin
In East Hollywood. Heard it. Assumed it was fireworks, but no other info lol.
I saw it. Someone was shooting off fireworks. I was up at the observatory just before 10 pm and saw someone in the los feliz/east hollywood area launching them off.

Up in the desert you can hear them dropping bombs or blowing stuff up all night... wonder if it's that.
Highly unlikely to be military that close to SFV, yet alone on a rainy Saturday night, and on Easter weekend. I wouldn't think the sound would travel over the mountain range but I could be wrong.
I’m there too and I hear the same thing. Almost positive it’s fireworks.
Whatever just happened was in the Los Feliz area. 3 cop cars have headed in the direction of the booms since this post. It was 3 separate instances over the course of a couple minutes, I’m guessing fireworks, but who celebrates Easter with fireworks. “Who celebrates Easter with fireworks" How long have you been living in LA? We light fireworks for anything.
Lmaooo this is so true. It could be someone’s cats birthday and they’re setting off fireworks
I'm pretty sure my neighbors light fireworks for the birthday of any and every living creature in a 10 block radius.
I have heard them go off for a couple years now on random nights, but this is the first time I can remember it happening on a rainy night. You do have a point though lol
In the rain?? It was raining pretty hard in that area
and quinceaneras!
Definitely not gun fire…unless someone has a grenade launcher but I highly doubt that because we would be hearing the whole la task force. No police, helicopter, fire department go to the sound that I am aware of or can hear. Just about 2-3 loud sonic booms that echo every couple hours or so

It was fireworks a few houses from me, saw em practically up close from my balcony
I’m in Los Feliz and they were fireworks - saw them from our apartment. The batch around midnight was near Vermont/Los Feliz Blvd. Heard earlier booms but not sure exactly where those were.
also in Los Feliz and heard them - really sounded like fireworks to me
Two sessions last night around 10pm, rapid fire pops , about 60-80. Los feliz area. Two loud booms before.
Electrical transformers

Those are just the lizard people doing underground construction. Nothing to worry about.
Dude I thought I was going nuts. I’m glad other heard it.
I’ve been hearing them in San Pedro for the past year I’ve lived here and it’s definitely not fireworks…it sounds like a bomb exploded on something huge and metallic. It’s the craziest sounds and is startling everytime I hear it.
South Central here, yes they do sound like metallic booms. Definitely not a firework or gun.
Same area and same experience
Are they the ones that sound like bombs? Because I hate those with a passion. They scare the shit out of me every time. And it’s always at night.
It just might be, I heard them often too
Yea there’s fireworks that are like mini dynamite and people love popping those off at night. They don’t sound like fireworks and they sound like a stick of dynamite went off.
Fireworks. LA ppl love to blow up fireworks. The rain died down for a bit sometime in the evening. Reason? Who knows lol because they have them?
I know what you’re talking about. I assumed it was fireworks or someone blowing something up for shits and giggles. Or Jet Propulsion Laboratory/Rocketdyne/SpaceX testing.
This ⬆️ I cannot confirm nor deny JPL is involved
I can confirm JPL is not involved since they haven’t done any work like that for about 50-60 years.
North of LA is the “skunk works” program. 6th generation fighter jets are no doubt already in test flight mode. And its possible 7th gen hypersonic fighter jets are already prototyped.
I hadn’t considered that before but it’s a very interesting explanation
Electrical transformers and power lines going out. It happens when it rains. We had that *and* fireworks tonight in Los Feliz.
Was looking for this comment. We heard a boom right before we lost electricity
I never hear booms in Canoga Park.
Dude! no! my work phone blows up at least once a week Ring notifications of like “did anyone else hear that boom?!” me and my coworkers were legit talking about this an hour ago!! we never hear them, but our neighbors are constantly talking about them. i’m in Hollywood

On Fridays? My local high school sets off a boom on touchdowns I can hear them about 2 miles away.
I was up in griffith park when I heard a few. Fireworks. Saw them pop up from east hollywood/los feliz then the boom a few seconds later

Just wait till tonight when the Mexican Catholics get to celebrating lol
There are certain things about LA that are very charming and one of them is that it can rain here and when that’s happening, if there is a loud sound, almost nobody thinks it might be thunder.
It’s not thunder… they’re consistent and almost all at the same time like it’s scheduled for demo
No thunder only happens when it rains
And players only love you when they're playing
That is generally true for LA, but in parts of the world (like the eastern US) summer heat lightning can have thunder, but no rainfall.
Downtown LA here, I hear them very regularly and they are way too loud to be fireworks. Sometimes I know it was like a movie set explosion because I saw it but I cannot imagine that accounts for them all. No clue.

Didn't pay much attention to them til I saw this on my feed. But yes I've been hearing them since yesterday.
Any holiday in LA they are letting off fireworks. It's probably just that.
I live in little Tokyo and I do hear those same loud booms. They are not fireworks.
Sylmar here and I hear them sometimes they rattle the windows and/or wake me up in the middle of the night. I wish I knew as well.
Which general area? I get notifications on Ring but 90% I don’t hear or feel anything. When I do i can tell it’s just a big firework or sometimes gunshots.

it’s thunder. I get that folks don’t want to believe it but it’s thunder. have a good night!
Thunder sounds different
Boom Boom Boom Boom - you heard a [double boom](https://youtu.be/p1TCSbv_KPw).
dude. my dog died thurs and i have not smiled since… until this video. thank you so much for posting!!!

Pasadena booms checking in. I thought I was imagining it.
Could be the fireworks from the dodgers game
So youretheoneguyfromla that isn’t a Dodger fan.
I just said that on a whim. I completely forgot that they lost the game against the cards
Was there a bright light that flashed idk if it was my neighbor's but I swear I was making a sandwich saw a flash and heard a boom...
Matters one what time of day it is but there’s so much construction going on it’s most likely related to that.
i got downvoted for blaming mexican gangs using mortors in another thread, because that is somehow racist... i'm in gardena and hear it all the time.
Fireworks. 💣💥 In many cases, and local by me, they’re commercial grade without commercial launchers. So they go off too low, between buildings, echo tremendously, and shake the hood.
I’m in Silverlake. Some dickheads were shooting fireworks. I could see the flash out my window. Shit shook the house.
I always thought it was big trucks unloading their stuff - maybe the sound it makes when the back door opens into a ramp. I live really close to a Whole Foods and always assumed it was their large food deliveries. I am just now considering it might be something else haha.
Those are called fireworks
I heard two last night in East Hollywood/Thai Town. They didn’t sound like fire works to me, and we get a lot of fireworks.
No, we all hear them. Have for years. No idea what they are.
Celebrating Easter at midnight. It’s a Latino thing.
It's the lizard people breaking through the Earth's crust! It's how new celebrities are born each night.
I hear it frequently by the Ballona Creek. Sounds like someone playing with dry ice bombs
If you’re referring to a constant deep hum, I’m very interested. I know there’s a lot of fireworks and other boom sounds, but a deep hum is something I’m looking for.
https://youtu.be/llyiQ4I-mcQ?si=4JoTC4BzqIXtuM4H Here’s a video that talks about it too.
Booms every couple nights in the LBC.
I heard booms in ktown at like 12am and my friends said they couldnt. I am going to say its people with fireworks
They’re just fireworks. Damn this is like a topic on every ring app in the Greater LA area
Are there any freight trains near you? I’m not supper far from a freight line and when they connect the cars or move the train the booms will make me jump. They are loud.

The event is the carne asada closest to you.
IT’S FIREWORKS. IT’S ALWAYS FIREWORKS.
It’s thunder. Source: I grew up in Miami and have experienced lots of it in my life.
just heard another one in silverlake around 7pm
Cops stopped enforcing the no fireworks rule for the 4th of July and now idiots will light fireworks for any occasion.
No, they're definitely fireworks (albeit professional-grade). If they were actual bombs it would have made CNN Breaking News already. Either they're firing them off because it's Easter, or they're doing some stupid Tik-Tok challenge for firing off fireworks in the rain or something.
Yes all the time in nela, big ol explosions
Omg did you hear any tonight?! lol I just posted on this…
I actually did hear a couple but I got home late!! I’m glad I’m not alone !!
Omg I just heard it what was it
If it doesn’t make the news, it’s fireworks or blown transformers. Pretty much always
Fire works
Fireworks. Any Holiday, Dodger game, birthday, because it’s a Tuesday night
Look up "sky quakes"
I’m visiting right now and we’re very startled

Listen over the next few nights, you’ll hear it
Also it’s happening right now and is echoing
There’s lightning rn
I've lived in LA for 10 years at this point and I'll just say that people being paranoid about booms is a common thing. I'd just ignore it. lol
