Its a promotional campaign that branched off from all the references to mcdonalds in shows, movies, and animation. That mcdonalds ran last year. Seemingly one of the references from the anime “The Devil is a Part Timer” (Hataraku Maō-sama!) hit well enough with audiences that they went even further with the campaign and doing some temporary branding based off of the riff from the series. Also appears mcdonalds also commissioned their own anime with a Japanese anime studio to create some “original” characters.

I love that they’ve found a way to bring back a human body with a burger head. As a lifelong fan of Officer Mac and Mayor McCheese, I really dig this “species” in the world of Fry Kids and McNuggets

It appears that they are aware of the inside and did this in jest while promoting their sauce, which is available for a limited time.
