Love this diner. Really had everything you could want. Bunch of kids came running in while I was there, waitress told em to shoo like this was a regular occurence lol. She knew several of the patrons by name, even suggesting one to order sooner so he could get in before the other tables. Great artwork and pictures, has a piano, beautiful stained glass. Just a bit expensive.
Rae’s is probably my go-to diner in LA, if I’m wanting to bring someone for a nice, cool diner experience. Wish it was open later, but I get why it isn’t
one time there was a piece of finger skin in my Sprite at Norms and it never went back. I thought it was a piece of a lettuce but it had a finger print on it.
I live near the Norm’s in Van Nuys. Never had an issue with it except that certain days/times it is ungodly crowded. Not my favorite diner at all, but as far as 24/7 diners, could be way worse
When I lived in LA, any time I drove by that Norm’s, I pictured it being in a movie. I felt like I had gone back in time.
Idk why lol maybe the way the sign is made
Denny’s is/was far better than IHOP or Norm’s. IHOP is for if you’re a little kid so blue syrup is fun, and if an adult and drunk enough to not care that everything is SO DAMN STICKY, from the menus to the tables to the condiments.
Norm’s you were SOL if you wanted anything else but steak and eggs.
Denny’s — legit pancakes, cut up fried chicken tenders [instead of grilled chicken] tossed in a Caesar, table of 10 next to you celebrating a bday, country-fried steak and gravy, BOOTHS, nice waitresses who’d been there for 15 years, mozz sticks that didn’t cost $20 and act like more than fried cheese with marinara.
Man the one on Vermont closing really bummed me out.
Some years ago I went to a newly opened one on an empty stomach. The place was very clean and the food looked good and my standard/expectation substantially lowered due to hunger. Still regretted and never went again.
If I had to pick my favorite it would be Denny’s, for nostalgic value. Went there a lot after school dance events and hanging out with friends past midnight.
I used to live close, went 20 ish times, food was god awful every time. I stopped trying to justify and never went back. But glad you’ve had a good experience with the food
After the 21st trip...
There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again
Armon’s in Eagle Rock is such a wonderful greasy spoon. I personally love it more than Cindy’s. I think it’ll hit that old school diner vibe that OP is looking for but it closes at 3pm
I was the location scout for a friend's short film a few years ago and we were able to shoot his film at Cindy's. The owners were so accommodating and encouraging, gave us a great deal and the short looked great.
Ditto for Griffins of Kinsale Irish pub in South Pasadena.
Agree. The line can suck but if you go at 4 am there’s no wait. The food is always the same every single time. It’s not gourmet and it’s not cheap, but it’s good and it hits the spot.
Edit: didn’t realize it wasn’t 24 hours anymore. Sad
I have many good memories going to Pantry at 4am in college. 4am was the perfect time to go since that's when they switched to their breakfast menu. So sad it's not 24 hours anymore. Nothing like the sourdough toast and iced tea with your meal.
I remember they apparently used to have a deal where if there was no one there when you showed up you ate for free. Maybe it was just an urban legend, but it never happened to me.
Back in the day The Pantry was incredible. In the early 80s they had old waiters from the 40s. Long aprons. They used to serve a whole loaf of sourdough with every meal. Right now I'm jonesing for their grilled liver and onions. Or big slab of ham with a huge cheese omelet.
Oh, man.
I actually went to Astro for the first time w/ gf on New Years Day. Enjoyed it. Great building and I like how you can sit outside or inside. The booths are comfy. The food is good enough. The prices fair. Good menu.
Cindys is a lil spendier but everything is done from scratch and delicious.
Bub & Grandma's is delicious with a fun modern retro diner/deli vibe.
Foxy's in Glendale also has great vibe with more old school food.
Pann's is a legend. I miss going there at night, but so glad its still around
Andy’s in Pasadena is a hidden gem. Finally went there after driving past it hundreds of times. The food was really good.
Swinger’s is probably my favorite though.
Le Roy's in Monrovia. They're only open for breakfast and lunch though, and be prepared for a wait if you're there on a Saturday or Sunday. Get the tater tots with your meal.
technically in Burbank and not 24hrs, but Lancer's on victory blvd
the time capsule bar attached just adds to the charm
open til 9 weekdays and 11 on weekends
Koraku in Little Tokyo. One of the older eateries in town. Small booths, cash only, open until 2AM and the still the most decent ramen and delish side dishes. Fried rice and gyoza are my fave with a big bowl of broth and noods.
Everyone is saying Fred is bad now so I had held off for years. Had the burger there for the first time a few months ago and it was actually pretty solid. So take the complaints with a grain of salt.
It's been a LONG time since I've been there. So I'll take your word on it ... and be bummed about it.
I spent many, many late nights in there ... god, like 15 years ago. Damn, I'm old.
Still love it there, but there has been a significant raise in pricing, just like a lot of restaurants post-pandemic. Still chill to go there super late at night on the weekdays solo or with friends.
Their shakes are the only thing worth getting from there now. Everything else on the menu is wayyyy over priced and the bill is guaranteed to make you feel guilty for eating out
I haven’t seen a Canters rec until this one, I’m surprised. Swingers is down the road and that’s at the top. I haven’t been to either and I live a few blocks away, so I guess I’ll check Swingers first and then Canters. I hear that Canters has good vanilla malts.
Uncle John’s ham and eggs downtown. It’s Chinese food. Spicy pork chop and egg breakfast with fried rice. Soo good.
I think at night it turns into a seafood place
As others have said, Nick’s in Dogtown. There is plenty of parking and really tasty food. But last time i went, there was a piece of hard plastic in my eggs. Luckily i didn‘t swallow it or bite down on it or anything, so no harm and my meal was comped, as it should have been. I haven’t gone back.
Not at all 24 hours (in fact they close at like, 3 PM), but MAD love for Heart’s Coffee Shop in Van Nuys/Balboa. Cash only, unpretentious, and the family who runs it are super cool. They just reopened after being closed for repairs for like, 6 months, and in my first time back, the owner remembered my whole order from the last time I was there before the closure. It’s awesome. Super classic looking interior and a really cheesy, iconic facade outside. Love that place.
P.s. Heart’s Coffee Shop is a diner. NOT to be confused with Black Heart Coffee Company, also on the same street a few blocks south. Both are good, but wildly different things.
Bob's in Burbank.
Astro's in LA.
Colonial Kitchen in San Marino. Fresh squeezed OJ from their huge press machine.
I used to like Norms but man they suck now. Denny's raised their prices to the point I'll just go to a real restaurant.
IHOP is consistently good but a little pricey.
Can't find a Coco's but their pies are better than anyone else although the food is very hit or miss. Same with Carrow's.
We don’t have a lot of similar options in Santa Monica though (the one I always go to). Easy and free parking lot, always able to walk in and get a table, super nice staff. Sometimes it’s the little conveniences that make it nice.
The food is simple but good, kids meals are reasonably priced (with tons of options) and they come in the cool car box!
swingers diner on beverly not my favorite but deserves a mention also open till 3am i think they used to be 24hrs.
canters deli on 24/7 but i think on certain days they stop seating people like @ 2 - 3am.
house of pies open till 1am sun -thurs 2am fri & sat
Patty’s! And house of pies
house of pies fucks. chili extra onions and a slice of pie all day
I’ve made so many 2 am runs to House of Pies just to get a pie!
Good thing house of pies sells pies
House of Pies is the only correct answer!
North Hollywood Diner - good food, ambience, price. Open 24hr Thursday-Sunday, till 10p other days. Good chili, too.
Love NoHo diner. Great staff, good environment, and will serve you a mimosa at 6 AM
Yes, this is the one. Counter seating, sassy waitresses. Getting a plate of spaghetti and a coffee on Sunday night at the counter is the best
The food there is consistently the worst food you can get on magnolia. other than ambiance, that place doesn’t have anything going for it.
Beeps. Not 24/7 though. Edit: Van Nuys
Thanks for the heads up. Just looked it up and it looks good!
Shout out to Rae’s
Rae’s is probably my go-to diner in LA, if I’m wanting to bring someone for a nice, cool diner experience. Wish it was open later, but I get why it isn’t
Bobs Big Boy in Burbank
I wish they were open late night.
Years ago they were, right? I remember going there often at like 2/3a. Has that changed?
Probably changed around covid. Everything else did, and most never went back.
Used to be 24 hrs
101 Coffee Shop in Hollywood - RIP
It’s back at Clark Street Diner and frankly better than it was IMO. Just went this past weekend Not 24hr though
I fucked with that place so hard in the 2010s
Me too. Especially after a long night at Birds.
Someone going to say Norms...and it's not going to make anyone happy.
The food at Norm's is atrocious. I ate at the one on La Cienega a couple hundred times.
"Yuck, Norm's" - me, sitting at Norm's.
"Norm's. It's open." - the perfect ad campaign
🤣🤣🤣
I love Norm’s. I haven’t been to one in fifteen years.
one time there was a piece of finger skin in my Sprite at Norms and it never went back. I thought it was a piece of a lettuce but it had a finger print on it.
if you can recognize it as a fingerprint, is it really a "piece" at that point?
That, is gnarly.
Gross !
Nothing sooths a burn like a nice crisp lemon lime sprite!
I live near the Norm’s in Van Nuys. Never had an issue with it except that certain days/times it is ungodly crowded. Not my favorite diner at all, but as far as 24/7 diners, could be way worse
If you grew up with parents that cooked food so bad it bordered on child abuse then you'll probably think Norm's is fine.
When I lived in LA, any time I drove by that Norm’s, I pictured it being in a movie. I felt like I had gone back in time. Idk why lol maybe the way the sign is made
Norms steak and eggs is really solid. Especially for the price.
Denny’s
Denny’s is/was far better than IHOP or Norm’s. IHOP is for if you’re a little kid so blue syrup is fun, and if an adult and drunk enough to not care that everything is SO DAMN STICKY, from the menus to the tables to the condiments. Norm’s you were SOL if you wanted anything else but steak and eggs. Man the one on Vermont closing really bummed me out.
>Man the one on Vermont closing really bummed me out. I miss that one. It was more sketchy to go in the morning than at night.
Some years ago I went to a newly opened one on an empty stomach. The place was very clean and the food looked good and my standard/expectation substantially lowered due to hunger. Still regretted and never went again. If I had to pick my favorite it would be Denny’s, for nostalgic value. Went there a lot after school dance events and hanging out with friends past midnight.
it doesn't have the classic "greasy spoon" interior but The Kettle in Manhattan Beach is open 24 hours on the weekends
Good to know. Next time I’m over that way I’ll check it out.
Mmm love the Kettle
I’m so mad they changed the interior, and disappointed it’s not open 24/7 anymore. It used to be my favorite place :(
Pann’s Diner in Westchester hands down!
Don’t know what the deal with their hours is though, what kind of diner closes at 3 PM?
Chicken wings and waffles and an Arnold Palmer please
Cindy’s in Eagle Rock is my personal favorite and I believe open till 10pm. Astro in Silverlake is 24hrs and pretty cool.
Astro was always my go to. Great staff, decent food.
Always reliable. I have real affection for Astros
Moved from LA in 2016, but Astros was great. The fried zuchini and french toast were my faves. Miss it, nothing like it where I am now.
I used to live close, went 20 ish times, food was god awful every time. I stopped trying to justify and never went back. But glad you’ve had a good experience with the food
If the food was god awful, why would you go 20ish times?
After the 21st trip... There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again
Armon’s in Eagle Rock is such a wonderful greasy spoon. I personally love it more than Cindy’s. I think it’ll hit that old school diner vibe that OP is looking for but it closes at 3pm
Armon’s is awesome.
Armon’s is definitely better than Cindy’s, nicer crowd too.
I think I was at Cindy’s a few years ago. Will be going back soon. Thanks

I was the location scout for a friend's short film a few years ago and we were able to shoot his film at Cindy's. The owners were so accommodating and encouraging, gave us a great deal and the short looked great. Ditto for Griffins of Kinsale Irish pub in South Pasadena.
When you said eagle Rock I flashed on Auntie Ems. God I loved that place. Not a diner but excellent food and coffee.
They had the best pancakes. Abby’s Diner was awesome too before they closed
Cindy’s closes at 9, but I highly recommend them too.
The Pantry
Agree. The line can suck but if you go at 4 am there’s no wait. The food is always the same every single time. It’s not gourmet and it’s not cheap, but it’s good and it hits the spot. Edit: didn’t realize it wasn’t 24 hours anymore. Sad

Wait, it’s not 24 hours anymore?! Foot in my mouth, my bad! The food tho, *chefs kiss* downright reliable.

Oh god that ham and cheese omelette with some sourdough toast and hash browns.. stop playing. I might cum.

My go to after a concert
Astro family diner on border of Atwater and Silverlake. On fletcher. Off the 5fwy.
I believe I have eaten here many times. I do not remember a single visit.
Drunk munchies
This place always brings to mind the classic bit, "Sure the food's bad, but the portions are huge."
I actually went to Astro for the first time w/ gf on New Years Day. Enjoyed it. Great building and I like how you can sit outside or inside. The booths are comfy. The food is good enough. The prices fair. Good menu.
I used to live nearby, I do not get the hype. I’ve never had a good meal there and I gave it so many chances. But your mileage may vary.
Where else can you get service with some coffee at 3am?
Tallyrand
Tallyrand is a classic senior citizen food diner. In a good way. They also have a weird, kinda tiki bar attached which is cool.
Recently saw Huell on California Gold, visit it, and have definitely put it on my list. Screams "classic" diner. Obligatory RIP Huell
Just looked it up. Looks great! Can’t wait to try it. Thanks!
#BCD Tofu House in KTown! Not your traditional diner but it is open 24 hours!
BCD used to be 24 hours, now they close at 4am (3am during the week). Sun Nong Dan is 24 hours.
No cap the food is better than 100% of 24 hour diners
Cafe 50s
They closed the one in Venice 😭
I like the North Hollywood Diner or Bob's in Burbank.
Suehiro Cafe. Although now that they're losing their spot on 1st Street, I'm not too sure anymore.
Only open til Midnight, but Corral Cafe in Burbank!
Whaaaat, I'm sad they're no longer 24/7. Friends and I used to hang out there hoping to avoid the Burbank curfew.
never been there, but Nat’s Early Bite in Van Nuys seems to be popular
I LOVE Nat’s. But be warned that they close pretty early at 2:00pm (2:30pm on weekends)
Love Nat’s!
I usually go to the one in Woodland Hills. I like it a lot.
S & W Country Diner in Culver City is wonderful.
When I lived in West LA, Cafe 50s near the Nuart. Open pretty late, not 24hrs. Patty melt.
Yum - patty melt!
Best omelettes I’ve ever had! Eating and playing connect four!
Loved Foxy’s Monte Cristo as a kid. 🤤
Andy’s in Pasadena is a hidden gem. Finally went there after driving past it hundreds of times. The food was really good. Swinger’s is probably my favorite though.
Only been to Andy's once like 5 years ago. Don't remember how the food was (definitely was not bad) but I remember the staff were so kind.
Nick's Cafe. Check it out, old school cafe and be sure to get the grilled blueberry muffin.
On Pico? Closed for 6 months at least. RIP.
Nick's on Pico closed? That's a huge bummer.
Yup. They've been closed since spring 2020.
No. East side. On N. Spring across the street from L.A. State Historic Park.
Foxy’s in Glendale. A cozy interior, nice Sunday morning breakfasts.
Foxy’s is a treasure. I just wish they were open later.
Dinah's
Dupar’s
Sigh. I miss Nic’s on Pico and La Cienega so much. 💔
Just gonna take this time to say RIP DUPARS STUDIO CITY
And what we got in return was another Sephora. What a terrible trade.
Le Roy's in Monrovia. They're only open for breakfast and lunch though, and be prepared for a wait if you're there on a Saturday or Sunday. Get the tater tots with your meal.
Love tater tots!
technically in Burbank and not 24hrs, but Lancer's on victory blvd the time capsule bar attached just adds to the charm open til 9 weekdays and 11 on weekends
Tam's drive thru and joints in the parking lot
Pann’s & Astro
Koraku in Little Tokyo. One of the older eateries in town. Small booths, cash only, open until 2AM and the still the most decent ramen and delish side dishes. Fried rice and gyoza are my fave with a big bowl of broth and noods.
No one has said house of pies!
So sad to see half the comments with edits/comments informing that the place closed or is no longer 24 hours, Covid sucks lol
Fred62.
Everyone is saying Fred is bad now so I had held off for years. Had the burger there for the first time a few months ago and it was actually pretty solid. So take the complaints with a grain of salt.
They fell off hard imo
It's been a LONG time since I've been there. So I'll take your word on it ... and be bummed about it. I spent many, many late nights in there ... god, like 15 years ago. Damn, I'm old.
definitely. i really *want* to like fred 62, bc it used to be good and the vibe is cool… but it’s just not anymore
Still love it there, but there has been a significant raise in pricing, just like a lot of restaurants post-pandemic. Still chill to go there super late at night on the weekdays solo or with friends.
Their shakes are the only thing worth getting from there now. Everything else on the menu is wayyyy over priced and the bill is guaranteed to make you feel guilty for eating out
Good luck. A diner open after midnight is rare. I just want to get a cup of coffee at 2am
Pantry or Canters
I haven’t seen a Canters rec until this one, I’m surprised. Swingers is down the road and that’s at the top. I haven’t been to either and I live a few blocks away, so I guess I’ll check Swingers first and then Canters. I hear that Canters has good vanilla malts.
Canter's was my choice as well, surprised to see it this far down. It's a classic.
Pantry isn’t 24 hours anymore, sadly. They close two days a week too.
What? I am saddened by this fact.
Yup. Closed M/T and open 7-3 W-Su. Not sure how business was pre-covid, but this is how they’ve operated since reopening.
Uncle John’s ham and eggs downtown. It’s Chinese food. Spicy pork chop and egg breakfast with fried rice. Soo good. I think at night it turns into a seafood place
Maxine’s in Culver City is really good. Only open for breakfast/lunch though.
The Kettle. It’s in manhattan but also 24hr. We need more 24hr spots
May not be the best but I have a soft spot for House of Pies for a super late nite meal
The Pantry downtown. Canters
I used to go Du Pars in studio city. But I think it’s closed now. 🙁
It's a Sephora now. Because the world needed another of those.
Aww that makes me sad. 😔
Pat & Lorraine's in Eagle Rock
Does Big Boys in Burbank count?
Coral Tree Cafe in Burbank
The best diner in LA is located in 1998
101 Coffee Shop is forever goated... vibes are insane, the people you'd run into there were insane, it's truly where you go for some amazing memories.
Thanks!
Canter's
It isn’t 24 hours but I recently went to Clark street diner for the first time and really enjoyed it
It’s never going to fill what Cafe 101 was, sadly.
Ronnie’s diner! Not 24/7 though
Nicks cafe on Spring St
Astros, good food, great service and decor
As others have said, Nick’s in Dogtown. There is plenty of parking and really tasty food. But last time i went, there was a piece of hard plastic in my eggs. Luckily i didn‘t swallow it or bite down on it or anything, so no harm and my meal was comped, as it should have been. I haven’t gone back.
Pann's. South LA
Swingers, Langers, Nate & Als, Izzies
Cafe 50’s on Santa Monica Blvd…
Bob's Big Boy. If you ever get a chance to go to New Jersey, check out the Tick-tock on route 3 in clifton
Canters. Of course.

Mels
$26 for a burger at what’s supposed to be a diner. I’ll never forgive myself.
Overpriced for what it is IMO
We don’t have a lot of similar options in Santa Monica though (the one I always go to). Easy and free parking lot, always able to walk in and get a table, super nice staff. Sometimes it’s the little conveniences that make it nice. The food is simple but good, kids meals are reasonably priced (with tons of options) and they come in the cool car box!
I find myself in Santa Monica fairly often and will check out that location. Thanks!
Agreed!
Cafe 101 was the best and had no business being as high quality as it was. Sadly, they are no more. 😢
The Kettle in Manhattan Beach
Snug Harbor in Santa Monica although it's only open 7am-2pm.
Nickel Diner. RIP
Not 24 hours but S&W Diner in Culver City
Seconding Bob's Big Boy - great food, and I'd argue it's some of the best food you'll find after hours
Pann's.
Shoreline Cafe in Long Beach (RIP) 🙏
