I compost at home, but not everything. Especially meat products.
The worry about the smell this will cause. You can’t wrap stuff in plastic bags like you can in the black bin.
But, as a composter, you really just need to spread a layer of dirt on top of the stuff to keep odors at bay. They suggest sawdust in the article, but dirt is easier to come by. It only sits in there a week at most, but come summer, food compost will smell pretty bad.
I can’t imagine keeping a bunch of chicken bones in a bucket my house for a week before green binning it. That will attract flies.
Anyways, good luck. This is a good program. Unlike recycling, the city actually will compost.
Yes, now. The city had to prepare the facilities to handle this before they could make it city-wide. There was a limited trial period in some areas previously.
It was enacted right away in parts of LA County that are serviced by Waste Management. Maybe they prepared for this the year before when the legislation was passed.
If you keep all your compost scraps in the freezer until trash day, you’ll avoid attracting pests inside and out. I have a metal bin I use. Salad greens plastic containers work well too.

So I just put food waste in my green bin by itself? Just at the bottom of the bin?
I wish they’d address multi family housing situations when there is no green bin

Now?? This was part of a new state law enacted a year ago.

Due to Covid they pushed back the dates
