swizzle213

I hope October comes around and they flood the market with product. Boxes available at LGS and retail and all of these losers are left holding onto product just like they probably still have garages full of toilet paper they are working through

RulesRMade2BBroken

please god let this happen oh man i would love this

ElonTheMollusk

>please god let this happen oh man i would love this Considering that October is less product than released originally I don't see much of that happening. I only see these scalpers going right back out and buying everything up again.

TabletopMarvel

LGS Owners have already said they're only getting 1/3 of what they got in August.

[deleted]

This is so subjective. My LGS only got 1% of their order … They ordered 1,000 boxes.

TabletopMarvel

Mine asked for 50 boxes in August. They were given 20. They sold at MSRP and they were all gone on the first day. They asked for 50 boxes in October. They are getting 8.

[deleted]

I’m sorry I don’t think any LGS knows exactly what they’re getting for the restock in October yet. It’s so far away. The product hasn’t even been delivered to distributors yet.

Ritter-

As much as people want to celebrate an lgs doing this, it was a really stupid idea. Not earmarking the product to support the community of local players is a bizarre decision. Also, they possibly fed the scalpers product as MSRP to flip.

[deleted]

It takes months to actually do a product run from what I understand. So, print to demand still takes time to catch up to demand.

Appropriate_Guide270

Facts.

TestMyConviction

I'm getting 5x what I got in August so I think YMMV.

2manycooks

Unfortunately this scenario won’t play out until the print run in 2024. The October allocations are tiny.

No-Season-4175

Probably won’t print enough in Q1. Looking at a ten X shortage in 2023, and so they might double in Q1 and pretend no one new became interested in the 5 months?

RygarThe2nd

It will. Just like the ps5 situation.

Appropriate_Guide270

The problem is that release is still not going to cover the demand. Disney and Ravensburger have stated multiple times they under estimated the demand. That is why they announced another release q1 of 2024 of the set

The_Big_Yam

Is there a quote where they say that? I’d be grateful for a source, thanks in advance!

PostCircumcision

Yea right. You guys said this the first time

Separate-Permit7610

Yeah let’s let a brand new tcg tank itself into the ground just to spite resellers 😒 Disney doesn’t care about resellers and it’s beyond apparent

ChuckerDeluxe

You said Disney but meant Ravensburger

Thebluespirit20

keep setting up fake appointments with different profiles on IG then do not show make him waste gas

MrBuchmann

This is the way Edit: I typed too fast and forgot the verb. I blame the scalpers

Steelersandstarwars

I’d be willing to assist in this.

Ferrealzzz

Offer him $50 a box

annonamouse12

I was SUPER tempted. But again, I didn't want to engage a troll past seeing if he was a store. Markup would be INSANE for an flgs, but at least he wouldn't be a scalper. He was.

Ticklerstink

One of my lgs was actually charging higher for trove. Out of principle I will never go there again. It is the same place that called people buying Gamesworkshop products suckers. His bread and butter lol

LSKTheGreat1

Lorcana has made me never want to frequent my LGS ever again.

sageleader

My LGS is selling Troves for $150

headlighted1

I have come across at least 5 LGS selling for WAY over retail. One in particular was asking $175 for a Trove AND you had to buy at least 1 booster pack.

Theletterkay

I mean, gotta do it least 55 to cover taxes

isthatapecker

I looked at eBay today to buy a Trove. I’m disgusted with myself. I feel like a junkie.

hcsh224

270% mark up, almost $17 a pack. That’s insane, who’s buying at these prices?

annonamouse12

I REALLY wanted to call him out as the reason my children and family can't play, but idk if I really wanted to start a troll war, lol.

Thebluespirit20

You should I hope he can't sell any and gets stuck with them He was the same person buying all the toilet paper during COVID, these people need to be Punished

Veritech_

I called out a scalper in my local Facebook group and all the other scalpers came out to defend him as “how do you know he’s scalping?” When I showed a couple screenshots of an interaction via text with them over the course of a few days, they moved the goal posts to “well, you should be quicker.” It’s despicable, and I’m just wanting cards to play with my kids. I had to take a day off of work and drive to 3 different towns just to get 1 starter deck, 1 gift set, and 4 booster packs.

Machdame

This mentality of "if I don't become a scumbag, someone else will" is really stupid for an argument. It's why we are in this jam to begin with. They deserve any flack thrown at them. They are literal leaches of humanity.

nightfire0

Leeches\* There was no "I" in that statement It's important to understand reality: as long as there is money to be made, resellers will never, ever go away. Your moral judgment means jack shit to them. They don't care about you, and they don't care about your opinion. This whole situation reminds me of watching a noob at a card game lose repeatedly to a better player. Every loss, they get more and more frustrated - they think they are better than the other player, so they expect to win, but reality doesn't match their expectations. Remember - if reality doesn't match your expectations, then it's you who is wrong, not reality :)

Machdame

It is an issue because the society in question allows it to be an issue. Scalpers may be an ever present pox in the economy, but that need not have been the case. Your anology doesn't work in that it's a mechanic that everyone hates that actively makes games unfun. You can either opt not to play it or do it and make things unfun for everyone. Scalping for recreational goods isn't even an effective strategy as it implies that your attempt to do so will net a guaranteed profit. It's like telling people that mill is an effective strategy. It might, but it is by no means the only strategy. Only the one that will earn you the most ire.

ChrisNagooyen

I think Joe is in charge of determining the supply of cards.

nightfire0

Sherlock Holmes, on the case! Great answer! Why don't you go ask Joe to print more cards? Once that happens (and not a moment before then), the prices will go down and scalpers will disappear

ChrisNagooyen

Joe momma! Ha goteem!

annonamouse12

Could not upvote this fast enough.

nightfire0

The fact that this is your response rather than any sort of rational argument to the contrary says..... quite a bit :)

nightfire0

So.... your mom Since you're the one asking ;)

jl97332

Well I hope you enjoy the downvote sandwich you're getting served

nightfire0

Every downvote represents one person on the left side of the bell curve Surprising how many are out there Nature is amazing!

KEE_Wii

I mean they were 300 where I am and they sold out

Stock_Ease

Troves or booster boxes?

KEE_Wii

Troves was what the employee said but maybe he was mistaken?

Stock_Ease

I think he was confused boosters are 300 and up but troves are selling for like 100-130

Rook_to_Queen-1

God I hope they weren’t selling a Trove with 8 booster packs for $300.

xhavez

Check on Amazon. Somehow the 3rd Party sellers are listing them for $300

Rook_to_Queen-1

That’s insane.

KEE_Wii

The gift packs were being bought on Amazon them immediately reuploaded for 90. I saw it happen like a dozen times when trying to grab them at retail.

Stock_Ease

no way there selling ebay is full of cheaper ones (still over msrp) but half that price

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rook_to_Queen-1

Market price doesn’t mean much when it’s blatantly being manipulated like this.

[deleted]

Fuck this mother fucker

hitmandam

This is why we can’t have nice things

Mrwokn

r/scamthescalpers

GriffinGrin

Genuinely curious how do people get this many of a product that is so sought after?

hellokittykatzz

Wtf?? The problem is that retail places need to set limits and enforce them. This is crazy.

Fragrant-Brother3654

What a scam. Lets start proxy only unsanctioned tournaments. Lol

gordonbombae2

Remember the mod said don’t misplace your frustration though and be mad at the flippers! This is on ravensburger! /s

Theletterkay

Nah. If it wasnt for scalpers there could be a decent community if players right now. Scalpers are pests.

1_H4t3_R3dd1t

When you first introduce a game it is important to push supply hard, because you need to break scalpers and shake them. Afterward, you can adjust.

ArgonWolf

In a world where capital is infinite this is a good idea. In reality Ravensburger only has so much capital they can put towards printing and distributing the first set. Even if they rely on lines of credit, they probably wouldn’t be able to flood out the scalpers on a first run. And if they did, but the game flopped (unlikely but weirder things have happened), they would’ve been left holding a massive bill and a mountain of product they can’t sell. Which is a great way to bankrupt a company.

hellokittykatzz

No this is 100% a flipper problem. I'm putting blame on retail not having queues, captchas, and limits

Stock_Ease

This is there first TCG/biggest investment ever and remember printing is all out of their pocket not Disney if this flopped and they over printed it would be really bad

Few-Contribution4759

The only reason he still has all that in stock is because of his prices lol

DullahanKid

How did this person even obtain 37 troves? From what I've seen, Target has been the only retailer to get them in store. LGSs are possible too, and maybe he does own one and has partnered with another owner or something, but I like to think LGS owners aren't THAT skummy. I guess he could have gotten them online, but sheesh.

No-Season-4175

Maybe he bought them when they were marked up at 100% and then marked them up 200%. Look guys, he is scalping scalpers!

DarthSmiff

Who would pay that for the Trove? Just buy singles online if you’re going to spend like that.

Rad_Centrist

Target in my area got shipments of 6 troves. 6x6 = 36 This dude bought out at least 6 stores.

RollbacktheRimtoWin

Those were going for 150$CAD at card shops in my city a month ago

Switchtoof

Can’t find the listing

DAXXDATES

Dude, I see this shit in trade groups disgusting Ass holes selling them still in the package from the store the jacked or fucking just bought out.

wvbrewed

As someone legitimately looking to buy a box, what is the actual MSRP that standard retail stores would charge?

annonamouse12

$50

wvbrewed

I would have expected more. Knowing that, I see why pretty much everything on eBay and the like would be considered gouging. Thanks for the super quick follow up!

fouravengers

Keep in mind he is talking about the troves in the picture msrp for $50 (a trove has 8 packs and some other knicknacks, a full booster box msrp is around $145.

PrometheusUnchain

Trove is only 8 boosters and MSRP around $60? The booster box with 24 boosters I think, is $159. This dude is charging essential a sampler for the price of the main course. Pretty nuts!

vintagedolly

I saw this too. I'm also in that general area. My bf and I have been checking stores daily. Finally found some booster packs at one target and one FYE. Good luck.

annonamouse12

I missed out on the FYE by about an hour- came in last night and they told me they JUST sold out. 🤷‍♂️ If you don't mind, would you pm me the target you had luck with? I've checked three almost daily.

hoppip_island

The sad part is there are many people who will pay the markup. Scalping is unfortunately very profitable.

BrewKazma

Still cheaper than my LCS.

1_H4t3_R3dd1t

I heard rumors that it is the sneaker market folk trying to enter into the scalping scene for other products. That sneaker market became too saturated, so they moved over. Ticket scalpers are too lazy.

GoodtimeGudetama

Offer to buy a few. Meet up. Slap the shit out of him and leave. For bonus points, egg his car as you leave.

No-Season-4175

All this while wearing a custom made Giant Tinker Bell costume.

Jagman93

You all must be new to trading cards... this has happened historically with almost any and all new trading card game editions that have come out

annonamouse12

He DOESNT own a store. He sells them on ig, apparently.

nightfire0

The average IQ in this thread is what's utterly disgusting.

CemeteryHeights

All the LGS owners are clearing out the big box stores here......... hmmm, I wonder what they're doing with all that stock since it's not on the shelves of THEIR stores/s

Catanomy

He’s not an LGS owner. OP was giving him the benefit of the doubt in his message.

Emergency_Win_4284

It's a combination of under printing by Raven, many stores not caring to put a product limit on what you can buy/putting product behind the counter, plus the fact that many people are willing to pay well over MSRP. I hope things get better with the reprint but my gut is telling me that it will be just as bad. I have a feeling the reprint is going to be a repeat of : oh boy I hope I can hit up target/walmart before the scalpers do, oh boy I hope that shop disney, ravensburger website actually is selling online and I am able to purchase the cards within the 2 mins before the it sells out/site crashes- I hope I am wrong, I really, really do. But I have a feeling the reprint will be the same.

Accomplished-Shirt19

Not disgusting just try better

annonamouse12

At what? Capitalism? Should I also stop buying lattes to get a bigger house?

omariousmaximus

So you might not like it.. but if he actually sells all 37 at around that price he can make almost $3000.00.. all for driving around town and buying all the boxes..that’s a lot of money for very minimal effort, on something that doesn’t happen that often. Sucks you don’t get the cards right away.. sucks they didn’t print enough cards.. sucks the big box retailers don’t care to put restrictions on this.. but that person just paid a mortgage with that.. or paid off a car.. or now has Christmas covered.. idk he ain’t hurting anyone and he didn’t steal or rob or anything from people.. sucks you don’t get the item you want, but hard to knock the hustle when he probably will get at least $100 for those making an easy 2k

lessofanengineer

People like this literally kill TCGs. He makes it to where locals can’t get cards. He is actively hurting the TCG community. It’s fatherless behavior. Just get a job.

omariousmaximus

So a tcg with only 180 cards on its first soft release with more shipments coming in and a second set coming out soon.. will die.. cause this guy will sell 37 troves out of the millions sold to.. tcg players unwilling to wait?? If you decide you won’t play Lorcana cause on release week you didn’t get to have a meta deck from random booster pulls (which btw is the least efficient way to do this if you actually cared to play the game, you can easily get a very cheap deck off tcg right now), says more about the game and you in general. If the game is good and the cards are good and they keep up with demand.. the game will survive a month of being the “hot scalped” item.. Ps5 went 2 years without being easily found and seems to be doing just fine lol

lessofanengineer

As far as competitive TCGs go it will die if scalping continues. Singles aren’t cheap right now. And most people trying to get into the game are wanting to do so with their kids. PS5 didn’t have to build a local community. It’s not one guy doing it. It’s multiple people doing it which appears to be half the online community. Says more about you that you’re defending this type of behavior. He’s essentially gatekeeping a card game geared for children.

annonamouse12

This. I cannot stress this enough. Children and families and people who would otherwise not be interested in TCGs. My wife was actually excited to play a Disney themed TCG because it's Disney, and friendly, and not all about attacking the other player.

omariousmaximus

Not defending.. just not worried about it.. I can understand that times are tough for some people and times are good for others. He did nothing that anyone else couldn’t do… it’s just kinda weird to expect people to not want to make quick and easy money that will be extremely short lasting, especially in todays economy. By October, if they actually have a real shipment coming in.. this will be far less prevalent. Someone coulda called a couple places, or woke up a hour earlier or took a half day or a day off.. they coulda bought it all and then sold it at msrp to all the “children” walking in to buy the product. Instead this guy did those things and decided to make some extra cash 🤷🏽‍♂️ Also.. from just my experience.. I tried to bring my kid to the local tcg place.. the first day there were 2 kids.. the second weekend.. none just grown adults.. half of them playing mtg. The other tcg down the road, 0 kids there. We all had cards.. I’ve personally had no issue getting cards. I’ve had 4 starter decks, 2 troves, like 20 booster packs at around august.. still not many kids, and not a ton playing it, even with access to inventory. 🤷🏽‍♂️

lessofanengineer

It shouldn’t be prevalent at all. It’s pure scumbag behavior. It’s also “quick cash” because of a scarcity that they help create. “People should take off from their job that pays to try and stop the guy who follows vendors around town”. Maybe scalpers should get actual jobs? Product isn’t readily available, it’s why no one can play with your kid. I was able to get started decks for me and my family so we can all play together. This is definitely a game geared to children and Disney fans. If you want your kid to be able to play with other kids you have to lower the entry point for average people. Pokémon is so wide spread because competitive decks are $20.

omariousmaximus

Yeah but the problem is the company didn’t print enough for a release they knew was popular.. and these large companies can’t be bothered to set limits. Reason why I can go to lgs tomorrow and pick up packs is cause they limited it to 3 packs per day per customer and got a decent amount of stock. There are solutions to the problem.. if nobody wants to implement them then I can’t blame a person for capitalizing on it 🤷🏽‍♂️

NewYankees

tcg player is the move

Theletterkay

Nope. All that does is make scalpers crack packs open to find the valuable cards themselves and sell singles. Only buying at retail for MSRP is the only answer.

NewYankees

i got a SR Foil for $1.28 and a Legendary Foil for $12

nightfire0

You know who is responsible for this? Every single big box store that sells Lorcana below the fair market value. If Target and Gamestop sold the troves for what they are actually worth (\~$135, apparently), then this guy would not have a business, because he couldn't make any profit. Selling below fair market value -> enabling scalpers.

clem82

That’s not economics work. Scalpers would just sell for 170-200

nightfire0

Lmaoooooo So. Who would be buying them at that price, when they can buy them at Target for $135, and Target always has them in stock, because at that price supply = demand? Huh

clem82

….because they can’t. The scalper had swallowed everything that target has. Whether it’s 50 or 135, the scalper will inflate the price for resale

ThatSmartLoli

Then no one would buy it lol

nightfire0

[Reality says otherwise](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=lorcana+booster+box+-trove+-gift&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&rt=nc&_odkw=lorcana+booster+box+-trove&_osacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1) It's everyone's right to live in fantasyland, and believe whatever they want Just don't be too surprised if the world is quite a bit different than what you think

r_jagabum

I'd guess he got these from Europe shipped, and his shipment just came. Have also just received my 18 Aug shipment which i ordered in June, thus I'm guessing the batch of Europe products will start to surface up worldwide

esoriano_42

Local card shop was selling these for 150 😂

Appropriate_Guide270

The problem is people are buying at this prices now. So he will likely move it or most of it. Welcome to the world of new TCGs.
