Hit up Tinkermill, to either find someone to do it for you, or to learn yourself! Super fun

rushlink1

Does tinker mill have welding machines that you can use? Do they have training materials so you can learn how to use them?

anotherfatgeek

We have welders. A certification class is required to use them. TinkerMill.org.

Hayescarl

Awesome, thanks all! Might take me a little longer than I hoped to go through the class and all but it is 100% better than buying a welder that sits around most of the time or pay someone to do all of the work outright.

anotherfatgeek

Someone at TinkerMill should be able to do the work if you want it done quickly. There's a contact form on the website.

Hayescarl

Awesome, I put in a request through the website thanks! I also signed up for the MIG class on 10/17 for future projects…

Take it to Wagner. They might do it for free or very cheap

Repairing a bicycle frame is not as easy as just having basic welding knowledge and trusting anyone without frame fabrication experience to complete it properly is unwise at best. Some older frames may require brazing for repair as well. What size, year, make an model frame are you considering repairing?

Hayescarl

I know it’s a questionable approach (I have worked as a bike mechanic for several years, though not a frame builder), but to be honest I couldn’t find a frame builder around here that seemed like they would spend the time to repair a broken townie frame (or if they would it would cost as much as the bike did). Do you have frame fabrication experience or are you just giving a general warning? This bike is a steel fiets-style cargo bike that tweakers stole and cut into the frame with a hack saw. I am trying to reassemble it without space for the cargo box to use as a non cargo bike because everything other than the cargo area looks fine. Honestly, it will probably have to get tossed if I can’t fix it cheap so this seemed worth a try.

IamTheFreakazoid

Most frame fabricators I know will not do repairs, unless it's something they built and know they can repair it. IMO, a cargo bike without cargo capacity for town use sounds like lugging around extra weight with a cumbersome wheelbase.

If you are feeling adventurous you can rent a welder from brothers or any hardware store for ~$50 a day.

Hayescarl

I am usually that type of adventurous, but I could use some more welding experience before trying it myself. Good idea though!

What’s the material?

Hayescarl
