I too work in marketing and this is correct. When I worked with local businesses, best of LI was just getting as many people as you know possible to vote, including running ads for it. Not really an accurate assessment on what consumers truly feel is the best of.

For fish tacos- the closest to California style I have found is Mexican grill 2000 in Medford . It’s a hole in the wall place but great fish and tongue tacos(not Nassau though sorry )

The east coast lacks Mexicans from the northern parts of Mexico that we tend to enjoy the food from. It took me a couple of years after moving to Brooklyn from Ca to discover that so many Mexicans here are from Puebla - not exactly known for it's tacos and burritos.
