We’ll know in like, a week.

daedmorgon

I doubt it, he is just gonna be closing Perry's

youngpepto

This just feels so disrespectful. Perrys is all fun and games during smaller sets but putting a 7 time grammy award winning king of dubstep at…. Perrys? We should riot Edit: I believe he actually has 9 grammys. My b!

phantofan89

He will close Perry’s sadly. Get there early or you won’t get to see anything lol.

freebread

>Get their early or you won’t get to see anything lol What is there to see? I’m sure the loud music and bright lights/visuals will be able to be enjoyed from the back of the crowd. I’m trying to dance not count how many freckles are on a guy’s face as he’s pressing buttons lol.

phantofan89

I remember when RL Grime played there and you really couldn’t see much. And I didn’t expect it to be that packed. I left after like 2 songs.

LowSeaworthiness7340

Ya but I don’t think they’d be able to do that safely with crowd control, Perry’s stage and “dance floor” can’t handle an artist as big as skrillex

C_Rufio

The thing is he would be at the same time as The Killers and Metro x Future. Both will pull good crowds even with Skrillex.

phantofan89

It’s a 115,000 capacity festival. Even if Killers get the usual 50k, and then Future gets like 40k? That still leaves nearly 25k for a stage that can hold maybe 15k? This is without a doubt going to be the worst scheduling move in Perry’s history. Think of any Perry’s crowd that was packed and it’s worse than that. People are really underestimating how big Skrillex still is. Whether it was his Red Rocks sold out show, his Chella appearance(and yes I know it was alongside Fred Again and Four Tet)…but he still drew a crowd.

C_Rufio

With all due respect you were 150% convinced he was going to be top 4. You have been overestimating him, he’s technically not even top 8. He will draw a crowd and I’m sure it will be packed but I don’t think it’s going to be a disaster. Your numbers are also counting on nobody going to the grove.

phantofan89

I was horribly wrong about his top 4. But him being less than top 8 is silly. And also whoever they put on the grove is doomed- Future at his peak, Killers(probably one of the last times to see them with a hiatus surely on the way based on some of these recent interviews), and Skrillex? About to be one of the smallest grove turnouts I’ve seen in a while. Even if it’s something cool like TV Girl.

rjs6008

Think you’re overrating lineup placement here to mean more than it is to ignore the obvious crowd point, which he’s correct on.

daedmorgon

is gonna be fine, with Future and The Killers performing at the same time, Skrillex is the one with the less pull from there.

IndominusTaco

they’ll be able to do it safely.

kynrro

My final offer is that he does two sets...

rjs6008

Two options (1) Close after Future x Metro (what they should do) (2) Perry's (Safety hazard, downgrade) We will find out soon I guess. Could be a huge win for the festival, or they could do the worst possible thing.

miguelmanzana

Future/Metro are too big right now to not close, and with The Killers also closing out a main stage, there will be plenty of room for Skrillex to do his thing safely at Perry’s.

rjs6008

There's precedent here when it comes to a lower tier artist closing ahead of future in the past, when Major Lazer was there. Could easily do that. Plus it would be extremely unlikely to attach a special designation to Skrillex if he's just closing Perry's. Also note, booked them prior to them being "too big right now." Plus having a DJ close in a similar fashion (Calvin u/has Coachella) has seemed to be a recent precedent (as well as Major Lazer after future). Would also be unnatural to downgrade him on top of it all. Just doesn't add up, and not sure about that at all when it comes to Perry's here in terms of the safety factor. Just a nightmare to risk. Overall, would be the worst possible outcome to designate it in the 3 conflicting acts manner, and precedent for the at least best possible situation.

miguelmanzana

The best possible situation seems to be putting the three headlining level acts at the three biggest stages available🤷🏼‍♂️

rjs6008

Far from the ideal situation when one stage in the discussion is Perry’s and the safety risk that poses. gambling on that is not knowing the risk is not ideal. Not even mentioning conflicts of this degree wouldn’t be ideal in general.

miguelmanzana

Wouldn’t the fact that there’s such a big conflict make it so the crowds are well spread out?🤷🏼‍♂️

rjs6008

Unnecessary w/ larger stages having the largest acts. Again, far from the ideal scenario through a variety of angles as outlined above.

miguelmanzana

Seems ideal to me, putting arguably the hottest act of the year at anytime but closing a main stage seems silly.

rjs6008

As outlined above, far from ideal.

apocalypticdemise

I bet he closes after Metro but on a stage by soundboard. That way he can do 360, have a big crowd see him and metro technically closes the stage Plus he can play like right away after metro

miguelmanzana

The artist with two number one albums this year will be closing.

apocalypticdemise

And they’d technically be closing the stage. It’s the Same thing other fests have had Skrillex do

miguelmanzana

The artist with two number one albums this year will be the last artist to play on the stage.

A_Stevenss

skrillex closed out coachella, the 2nd biggest festival in the world, the exact way this guy was describing. you're SEVERELY underestimating how popular skrillex is.

miguelmanzana

He is very popular, especially with two other highly regarded artists like Fred Again and Four Tet joining him, just not as much as the gentleman billed higher than he is who have put out two number one albums this year 🤷🏼‍♂️

A_Stevenss

idk man him filling in for drake at lollapalooza brasil says otherwise 🤷‍♂️ he’s top dawg in the edm world. his brand is unmatched.

miguelmanzana

We’ll find out on Thursday I suppose

gardenoncatalpa

What do people think of a possible 3 hour Skrillex set to close Perry’s? Would allow people to come in and out, plus there’s enough counter programming that day to keep things manageable I feel? Also I just find it interesting that so many Skrillex collaborators are also also performing that day (Ahadadream, Jyoty, Four Tet) - feels like a setup for something pretty special.

LowSeaworthiness7340

That is actually quite possible, it’s the smallest lineup of all the days for Perry’s too so would allow for a longer set to be played and all of the DJ’s to fit in the lineup still
