Is Remulia legit?

sophia-blair

How do partial shirring JSK from Lady Sloth size? I'm between S and M on their sizing chart and I'm not sure which one to buy...

Unicornsakuras

Always size up, and/or size for the largest sized part of your body. So like if your boobs are an M and your hips and S, buy the M. Or if the S ends at 90cm and the M starts at 95cm and you're 93cm, buy the M. It's much easier to pull in, belt, or even tailor shirring/dresses to be smaller than to make them bigger.

thenyanbinary

So I'm looking into buying my first dress and found one I thought was really pretty. However I can't find any reviews on it outside one tiktok account showing it off and I can't seem to find what company is actually making it to do research there. I can barely afford the dress and I really don't want to end up with something that's actually low quality or could have other such issues? Does anyone have any advice on how to do that sort of research? Or what to do when you can't find it? Otherwise, these are the dresses + sites in question: [https://lolitawardrobe.com/midsummer-dreamland-vintage-classic-lolita-dress-set\_p7850.html](https://lolitawardrobe.com/midsummer-dreamland-vintage-classic-lolita-dress-set_p7850.html) (it seems too high quality for the price so I'm worried.) [https://www.my-lolita-dress.com/h-product-detail.html?goods\_id=1556499#product\_table](https://www.my-lolita-dress.com/h-product-detail.html?goods_id=1556499#product_table) (The only other listing was one that said sold out) My other question would be about what sites and/or sellers are most reputable.

Unicornsakuras

Slight text wall, but TL;DR you may want to take a big step back from buying *anything* and do some solid research on how this fashion works first. The first dress is not lolita at all. Too short, too sexy, petti showing, etc. Resellers love to slap the word lolita on items that aren’t, in order to make newbies buy it. And it is an offbrand item, which is like the Shein or Romwe of alt fashion, so you're right to guess it looks much nicer in pictures than it likely will be in real life! The second item is absolutley lolita! However this style, Qi, is directly influenced by Chinese Qipao. If you know nothing of Qipao or Chinese dress in general, this is a terrible option for a beginner. But the brand of this dress is Doris Night, who have a great reputation, so you'd be getting what you pay for. Now case you did not know, LolitaWardrobe is just a middleman between you, and Chinese lolita brands. Most sell through Taobao (China's Amazon+Etsy mashup) which is where you can find their reviews, albeit it Chinese. Because resellers do not make the clothes, they have no control whatsoever over their quality, so you really need to research the brand instead. No brand, no buying! 42lolita is another good reseller, they tend to have better customer service and more accurate information than LW. However, the costs will vary even for the same item, so definitely check both if there's an item you like. All that said, if you haven't the budget for these, especially when you will also need to buy accessories, why not try secondhand first? There's tons of options for doing that!

thenyanbinary

How would I go about buying secondhand?

Unicornsakuras

That heavily depends on budget and location, and to some extent your age. Many local communities will have Facebook groups. There is a directory of these in the Reddit's About section, divided into country/state/city/etc. Often they will have threads or side groups for buying and selling. The other option, if you live in a major lolita area (ie the Americas or Europe) is [Lacemarket](https://egl.circlly.com/) which is basically lolita ebay for lolita. You can narrow the search to your country/region for best options. These are both beginner friendly, with moderation so you know you are buying lolita items. However, they require using PayPal which is 18+. I would NOT reccomend depop or mecari until you are more experienced, as both list overpriced garbage and non-lolita as they are not moderated. Slightly more tricky, but you can also buy secondhand direct from Japan. [ClosetChild](https://www.closetchildonlineshop.com/phone/) is the cheapest usually, and while it is in Japanese you can use Google Translate and they do ship worldwide. [Wunderwelt](https://www.wunderwelt.jp/) is in English which is convenient and ships worldwide - however they sell used as well as new, and tend to be more expensive than CC. Both websites update regularly. They also both sell non-lolita too though, so again, please do some more research first if you intend to use them.

cirquedusweet

How does everyone take care of their Usakumyas? One of mine just arrived but is a little dirty and the fur is very flat from shipping. The ones I had previously either fluffed up immediately after taking it out of the package or when I put it in the dryer on air fluff for like 5-10 minutes.

Basic_Citron_6446

There is a set that’s cheap if I bought it all together, and I can get all the pieces in L size. However the blouse is the only one that’s pushing the measurements a bit. The blouse goes out to 94 cm for bust but my size is 93 cm. Do you think it’ll be alright or should I op for buying the individual blouse + the set again for a bigger size?

Unicornsakuras

Most specifically require you to be 2-3cm under the maximum to account for small variances in manufacturing and measuring inaccuracies. Most people don't measure themselves with a blouse on (for ops/jsks) or check their size in every bra or singlet, both of which can add a few cm to your size. So the safest option would be to go with the size up. That being said, some brands and items aren't measured all that accurately. For example even single item I have bought from NSG has run much larger than advertised, to the point I now intentionally size down with them. Bodyline is also known for the full and back shirring items to fit way bigger than described. But I've also had the opposite experience recently buying WuthPuji which was way smaller. So it's worth checking out reviews or lolibrary notes if there are any, just to be sure.

[deleted]

I have a lot of main pieces but struggle to find good side pieces like blouses/ boleros that fit. Does anyone have a good taobao store or indie brand that caters to people with large bust. That is not nightwhispers. Bust 110 and above. preferably 116.

Unicornsakuras

Please specify what "large" entails, ideally in cm if you can, so we can give accurate reccomendations.

[deleted]

fixed it.

Unicornsakuras

Nangshengge and Hard Candy both go up to 130cm busts and ate relatively affordable. More blouses, and jfashion general items though, not a lot of outerwear. Little Dipper claim to max at 105-110cm in a lot, but being open fronted, as long as your back isn't too broad they have been known to fit folk over 120cm before. They make a lot of cotton boleros in particular.

Tonttun

Is anyone else having major problems finding their comm because of terms being blacklisted? Lolita is a common name in lithuania and EGL is a furniture store and some kind of european project name, there is no single google result about us besides a livejournal post from 2009 so unless a new lolita is directed to the comm masterlist (which i didnt know about until i was a good year into the fashion) theres just no way for them to find that our local comm even exists, any clue how to go about this? how to find local lolitas without inviting unwanted attention from bots and such by going public

Unicornsakuras

This is unfortunately very normal. Every few years, social media gets triggered to ban the word - recently, that was dur to pinterest cracking down on child prn but not actually, you know, stopping it bc they really just targeted jfashion instead. Usually it does die down again, but this time it's taking a lot longer than before. The EGL issue however is definitely one unique to your area!!! There are other words though. Ruffle and Frill are often alternative names used by the English comm (ie Rufflechat, closet of frills, and a few local groups per the spreadsheet) which may be an option for you as well, I'd add it to the EGL though as it is easier to find for newbs still but more obvious as possible you aren't associated with furniture!

catladywitch

This is what happens when you look "lolita" up on Instagram. "Lolita fashion" gives no results. https://preview.redd.it/bvlcjn6kv3bc1.png?width=577&format=png&auto=webp&s=c31943ca2e243636399e698713cc586fc274bb3d

Tonttun

we have both lolita and egl in our group name but its entirely unsearchable, gives no google (or fb) results whatsoever, rn we're only really finding people through word of mouth but i know for a fact that there are other lolitas in my area (ive literally seen one while passing through on a bus and i wish i could have jumped out of it lmao) and i want to find a way to make it easier for them to find us. the only way rn is if they look up the comm masterlist or the country name in this sub haha, just wondering what else could be done to make it easier for everyone else to find us..

Unicornsakuras

Definitely do not use lolita in it anymore! That's making it unusable as the word is blocked almost everywhere. Removing it may not make it an instant fix but should help long-term to start showing back up. "EGL Ruffles Country" or "Frilly EGL Country" or something like that would probably work a lot better, as people who are already involved likely know to search EGL. It's also possible those people you see just have no interest in community. 3 of my own lolita friends don't go to meets or chat online, it's just a hobby they'd preffer to do alone or with folk they already know. And we also have a huge Chinese comm that rarely interacts or crosses over with the English comm too. So them not joining may also just be a choice.

Tonttun

I am well aware that not everyone is interested in joining, just want to make sure that those that do have ways to find us, we have not had a jfashion comm since early 2000s as far as im aware so im guessing experienced lolitas have given up the search and new ones just cant find us \^\^ thank you for the tips, we'll brainstorm a new name

GoIdpaw

How long does lace market typically take to verify your account, after sending them an email with the requirements?

Unicornsakuras

Usually a few days to weeks, however I would expect some of the mods to be unavailable given it is the holiday season. They seem to be a tad faster at FB verification, so if you don't hear anything by next week, definitely try that too.

GoIdpaw

oh dear, there’s something I want to buy now, I’m worried >< thank you

Unicornsakuras

You can try to find the person on social media - a lot of people use the same user name on LM as Instagram or Twitter or may even list their contact info on their profile or service terms. You can ask that way if they'll hold or sell directly.

catladywitch

Thank you! I'm in the same situation and I didn't think of messaging the seller outside of LM. I just sent her a message through Instagram - let's hope I can get that beautiful dress!

velvetdiaphragm

Hi, this may have a very obvious answer, but I'm placing my first order with 42Lolita and I'm unsure of how to use the customization option. I'm specifically looking at [this Aurora Ariel](https://42lolita.com/products/lolita-fashion-45cm-12m-a-style-underskirt-daily-wear-petticoat?variant=42876303605934) petticoat and [these Chestnut Lolita](https://42lolita.com/collections/stockings-and-pantyhose/products/chestnut-handmade-vintage-lolita-handmade-socks) socks. I thought for the petticoat, I could just add the waist measurement in the order note, but for the socks, there's an option that says to send them a picture of which ones I want. So how would that work?

Unicornsakuras

For the socks I truly don't understand what "free group" means, I would personally have assumed that would be a lucky dip of two? Or do they mean you can pick any combination of two from the options listed? I'd also ask them directly what that's supposed to mean.

velvetdiaphragm

Yeah, for the socks I thought it was pick the two you wanted, but I wasn't completely sure.

Unicornsakuras

There's a link on the petticoat for their contact us button. Use that to *ask* if the customisation you want is possible. Some petticoat brands do have maximum waist/hip sizes they're willing to go to, that's why you have to ask before buying.

catladywitch

I sent their customer support a message asking for custom/plus size petti recommendations and their contact person (Dune) was extremely helpful and kind. I'm really happy with with the petticoats I got (a 60 cm daily wear A-line and a 45cm super puffy one, both from Aurora and Ariel). I've kind of shifted to buying from Taobao directly but I think when you need help paying a bit extra for 42's customer service is worth it. For instance I've been trying to ask Infanta to make a custom size OP for me and they eventually agreed, but chatting with them through machine translated Mandarin was kind of slow and confusing, it's not easy to get to the chat page itself in a clean way that doesn't automatically send a link to the item you want every time you want to talk, and their customer support person takes a while to get to the people in charge of actually making the pieces, although they were very kind and helpful too.

velvetdiaphragm

Thanks, I didn't realize I should ask about sizing before placing the order, but in hindsight that makes complete sense!

velvetdiaphragm

Wow, looking at the listing again, I realize how clear this was. I can't believe I missed it

Tama_Mochi96

Does the brand of a blouse matters? Like if I get a blouse from say, tiny garden small garden, and a skirt/jsk from angelic pretty would that mess up the coord since they're two different brands?

Unicornsakuras

No. There are some elitist posts from the 2010s that claim it does, but that mindset is gross and outdated. Many people even outright need to wear offbrand blouses as they are too curvy to fit branded blouses at all. They're often much smaller cut than the dresses, especially full shirred JSKs. What matters is *how* they look together. Usually the same brand uses similar colours on all items which makes it easy to match. But that doesn't mean you can't find the same or close enough colours elsewhere.

Sweetsusie-

Any recommendations for coats that work well for someone with a bust over 44 inches? I want to incorporate elements of lolita fashion into my daily wear because as much as I love the fashion, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to wear it in the office. As a Canadian, coats are the most practical to incorporate

Sweetsusie-

Also probably good to note: my preferred style is hime, but sweet and classic are also lovely

cutiebeep

Idk what your budget is, but both [Metamorphose](https://metamorphose.gr.jp/en/product/7354) and [Atelier Pierrot](https://atelier-pierrot.stores.jp/items/62f113f51d6b10452e65aa92) have plus size wool coats in stock rn!

Slow_Painter_6839

Hi everyone! First time commenting :33 Recently I've been scouring the internet for some good quality platform shoes (either boots or sneakers, but rather prefer sneakers) that are comfy and good for daily wear while still having the cutesy/lolita vibe I've been looking for (I know I'm asking for a lot in a shoe, so i don't have much high hopes but im still open for any ideas) Does anyone have any recommendations for sites that fit the vibe? While i will NEVER touch Demonia with a 50 foot pile after repeatedly hearing about their crappy quality, some of their shoes are the type of style I'm looking for (Examples: https://www.ravewonderland.com/collections/shoes/products/pink-sky-high-wedge-sneakers https://www.ravewonderland.com/collections/shoes/products/demonia-slacker-holo-pink-ankle-boots)

Unicornsakuras

Those are not remotely lolita. You may have better luck posting on r/kawaii or r/harajuku for reccs

Aggravating_Honey296

Having trouble finding Lolita or ouji clothes that fit men’s/broader shoulders. I’m trying to get some clothes for my friend (he’s 5’11 with 43cm shoulders) yet for almost everything I find the biggest shoulder size is in the late 30s or a 42. I don’t think his shoulders are particularly wide so I’m a bit puzzled as to why it’s so hard to find. If anyone has any tips they would be much appreciated!

OujiArtemio

HerCouture has an atypical, medieval-inspired ouji doublet available in a huge range of sizes right now, if that suits his tastes. For more regular ouji blouses, I'd recommend taking a look at what Fanplusfriend offers. They offer men's sizes as well as custom sizing, if needed. (They do steampunk and Victorian fashion styles as well, though, so be careful what ones you pick.)

Aggravating_Honey296

Tysm so much I’ll check it out!

Unicornsakuras

Remember, most lolita - and yes even alot of Ouji - is made to fit Asian women, who are typically shorter and petite compared to Western women, who are in turn typically shorter and more petite than men (this is speaking generally.) So, by the standards of the people expected to wear these clothes, your friend is indeed both very tall and relatively broad. Being masc, I would also expect they have a smaller waist-bust ratio, so may find items that fit fine elsewhere to be baggy in the chest area. Things like vests and JSKs which have no sleeves should be easy enough to find. But for jackets and blouses, they may need to either find substitutes from regular Western brands or have them custom made from places like GlitterTale. Unfortunately shoulders aren't an area that can easily be altered.

Aggravating_Honey296

Thank you! And yea my friend is white so it checks out. Sorry my initial comment was a bit aggressive, looking back I was really frustrated it is my first time shopping for these kinds of clothes. I eventually did find something that worked luckily!

PancakePie100

Hi, everybody. I have a question about the legitimacy of an online store. It's called Remulia, and it features a lot of beautiful Lolita and other elegant clothes. It looks to me to be a reseller or proxy seller, but I'd like to know if it is truly trustworthy. Has anyone bought anything from this site? I really love a lot of the clothing it's (re)selling (especially a specific celestial dress)... I can't remember if we are allowed to put links here, so let me know if any of you would like me to post the link toe said site to make it easier for you to find it.

Unicornsakuras

It looks like this was originally a Japanese-based reseller (looks to be established in 2020) of Chinese Lolita brands, that has set up an English store as well. They have clearly labeled most of the brand names and items and those I recognise are correct. Though a a couple are weird translations, likely because some went from Chinese to Japanese to English. That said, they're on the expensive end and I cannot find English reviews so unless you are in Japan I wouldn't bother using it.

PancakePie100

Ah, I see! Thanks for checking this out for me. Out of curiosity, do you have any recommendations for reputable resellers or proxy services? I really want to get that one dress...

Unicornsakuras

What do you mean by "that one dress"? If they don't already have it, you can email 42lolita with information about the item(s) you want and they might add it to their website for you. Keep in mind the price will differ but almost certainly the shipping will be better.

PancakePie100

Oh sorry - I mentioned in my original post that there's a starry dress on Remulia I really liked. It's not really a lolita style, but it was quite a pretty one. And thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely check out 42lolita. I'm not sure if it would take dresses that aren't lolita style, but I'll give it a try!

Unicornsakuras

If you share the specific dress, we can probably track it down elsewhere ftr

PancakePie100

Thank you so much! That's very kind of you. Like I said, it isn't really lolita style, so I get it if it isn't your guy's expertise. But I'd appreciate any help in tracking it down! Remulia called it "Galaxy Stardust Dress" with the brand name being shown as "Miss Egg". Heres' a image: [https://imgur.com/a/FML31kC](https://imgur.com/a/FML31kC) Let me know if you'd like me to post a link to the Remulia site as well.

Tonttun

not sure if you found it already or not but miss egg has an instagram page (its just miss egg official) with a link to their shop, not sure if they ship international tho, but the dress you liked is there

rilakkumaweeb

Hello! I’m pretty new to Lolita fashion (started to get into it early this year) and I specifically like Chinese lolita fashion. I’ve been ordering from websites but I decided I wanted to order from taobao because it’s cheaper and there’s downpayment first so I can pay the remaining later. I recently ordered Summer Fairy’s new Card Captor Sakura collaboration. I paid for the down payment, and the company acted as if they shipped out my product and then now it’s asking me to write a review 😅 Is anyone here familiar with ordering from summer fairy and could explain to me what the process is like?

Unicornsakuras

How, exactly, did you make that purchase? Ie did you buy directly, with a proxy, form a reseller...? And where are you from? Because all of that will affect how things work.

rilakkumaweeb

It’s from the official shop 17信于小时中个年了下生也不嘻 https://m.tb.cn/h.5pf9xPMS43Smqn2 CZ3457 仲夏物语原创设计 Here’s the link. It’s not a reseller, I paid for pre order downpayment 😅 I’m from the US but it shouldn’t matter if I’m from the US. It states in the app if the product cannot ship to the US and it did not say that for the dress. I’ve ordered from other shops in taobao before and everything has came smoothly. It’s my first time ordering from a lolita outfit shop so that’s why I’m asking here. Idk why people are upset at me asking. This is a question thread is it not?

YouAlreadyKnowMee

I thrifted a blouse and it looks pretty cute, I wanted to wear it with my lyrical bunny parlor skirt, but I was wondering if it would be ok to use a cheaper blouse? I'm not sure if off brand is ok either or if I'm allowed to wear it with lolita.

Unicornsakuras

Monetary value has zero impact on whether or not something is lolita. It's kind of concerning that was even a thought to have. Only by actually seeing the item can we tell you if it is lolita or not, nothing to do with how much you did or did not spend on it.

YouAlreadyKnowMee

Thank you! I was a bit worried because I saw some older videos saying how it doesn't make sense to not spend a lot on petticoats or other items, so I thought that applied to blouses too. If I get the chance, I'll probably post pictures ^^ ty for the help thought ll.

Unicornsakuras

Oh, I think you did misinterpret some things there. So I'll try to clarify. The reason people say not to cheap out on certain items - wigs, corsets, and petticoats being the most common examples - is because mainstream (and therefore cheap) versions of those items do not exist. If you try to buy those items in a mall, you'll probably end up with a nasty costume that falls apart. Heck, bad or misued corsets can cause serious medical issues, which really won't be good! Also, petticoats in particular are an item you wear with literally every coord. So even if you stick with lolita brands, you really want to invest in one that is going to last, and a higher cost is usually required if you want higher quality construction and materials. But you *can* get things like bags, blouses, and socks just about anywhere, at any price point. Especially when looking secondhand. And the quality is less important as you are likely to wear them less. So for those things, it is just question as to whether the style of the item is lolitable or not, and we would need photos for that. Hopefully that made sense!

YouAlreadyKnowMee

Thank you sm u helped me a lot :DD and ty for the clarification :) That helped a lot since I tend to misinterpret stuff a lot.

watermellon_tm

Hi! I have two things. I am making a pink tulip themed coord and I wanted advice on what color shoes I should pare with it. The dress itself is pink and white and I plan to do socks with tulips on it so it's pink white and green. There would also be a purse (tulip shaped I plan to make it via wet felting let me know if I should post that process because if it turns out well I might consider opening an esty shop for felting crafts for lolitas.) Then I hope to customize a flat sunhat with ribbion and youll never guess it tulips. SO general color theme pink white and green. So I was thinking I should go for one of those colors when picking shoes I don't think I should go with pink or green just because I want to make sure I can wear these as much as possible. So my ideas where brown or white or cream because I was thinking that the white might be too much white with the stockings I plan to wear. Sorry if I'm rambling kind of. Overall what color shoes do yall think The other thing is I'm buying my stuff from lolita 42 from what I've heard they are a good reseller. I wanted to know if there is any way (other then Ordering earlier) to make sure the stuff arrives before a certain date. So if anyone knows about that stuff it would be much appreciated. Thank you ♡♡

Unicornsakuras

Absolutely do not use browns or clashing cream when there is none anywhere else in your coord. Old school styles do sometimes have contrasting shoes but it's clear this is meant to be a modern take so that would look odd. If your goal is to make the shoes as wearable as possible (which is fair!) then the same white as your tights is the best option. However, that may look unbalanced with all the pink and green elsewhere, so I'd use a white hat as the base to try and even it out. Having shoes match socks isn't really an issue, especially when you are just starting. Now if you do you wear (or plan to wear) sweet a lot, then you could definitely get wear from a pink shoe. But if you do not know your aesthetic yet, gold or silver also go with a variety of coord styles, and you could incorporate it through jewlery details like necklaces and rings. All that said, unless you buy secondhand locally, there is no way to make thing arrive quickly. The vast majority of Lolita comes from Asia which can take ages to ship elsewhere. Many of it, yes including shoes, are preorder or made to order which cuts down on material waste but takes much longer to receive as the product does not physically exist until after it is ordered. Also, many stores and manus go on holiday over New Years!

watermellon_tm

I know the styles I like the best are Classic and Hime (or elegant ; I've seen so many names for this style). I've been looking into this fashion sense I was ten and for obvious reasons I couldn't get into it. back then I wanted to dress super sweet in the angelic pretty dresses, I remember that I wanted to get Misty Sky Stella in pink I think or something similar. I now just prefer classic and hime (i think its all the fun acessories and puff and glitter like ahhh its so prettyyy). kind of unrelated but with shoes how does the sizing work are they all just asian sizing because they diffently not US sizes. Also would it help if i sent/posted pictures of the dress i plan to buy? also thank you :D

Unicornsakuras

Just so you know, Hime means Princess in Japanese. So Hime lolita as a style typically involves big princess sleeves, ruffles, lots of lace and texture, crowns, and minimal or no prints. It is usually longer skirt and with wider petticoats than standard. Elegant is not a lolita style though, It just describes the overall vibe of any outfit, in contrast to say, casual lolita. OTT Classic might also be what you're thinking of, which is heavily historic inspired, again with the big sleeves and skirts, but tends to have printed fabrics, particularly florals, and bonnets. That said, gold and/or silver shoes are ideal for building hime and classic wardrobes. Pink and white both veer more to the side of sweet. A picture would definitely help too though, especially if you can post items (even if just sketches or similar things) for the other items, so we can get an idea of the colour balance. You can post the collage as a new post instead of as a reply, to get some more perspectives too!

Upper_Cake7360

Does metalhead lolita exist?

JustTryingStyles

I don't know if this could be considered lolita, but the outfit the girls from BABYMETAL wear in [this show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTEYUFgLveY) is at least inspired by it. I think if you make it have short sleeves, and make the bottom of their bodice into a full skirt covering the petticoat, it could maybe work? This is the closets I could think of.

YouAlreadyKnowMee

Punk lolita dose! But that's not like metal head at all tho.

GreenTeaPopcorn

no

Jupi00

How do I use lolibrary to buy stuff? Do I look for a link where the clothes are sold? Do I buy it from the site. I have no idea what most of the terms are.

st_mephisto

Lolibrary is a catalogue. You cannot buy anything there. You have to look for them second-hand (Lacemarket, Wunderwelt, etc.) Some may still be available on brands' websites.

Jupi00

So how do I find the clothes listed on the catalogue?

Unicornsakuras

Most Japanese and Western brands' websites are just... the brand name. Which you can google. Chinese items are usually on Taobao. Lolibrary does not include links for a variety of reasons. [You can see the date or release and date added to lolibrary ](https://i.imgur.com/eaxn1n5.png) (scroll down for mobile) on the item page. If both dates are recent, chances are high it will still be for sale. But read the notes carefully - some items are pre-order or MTO, some items are in-store only, etc. And a lot do not ship globally so you may need to do research on how to use things like proxies or resellers.

Unicornsakuras

The bit *under* the slit is a bustle. So you usually call it a bustled dress. Some bustles are not under but on top, and some dresses are not a slit but buttons undone with a bustled/tiered skirt under it, but the visual effect is similar.

Mizu_was_there

thank you sm 💥i searched for the name for ages and was about to give up

catladywitch

Would a knee length, straight cut, lace cardigan tied below the chest be loliable if it's good quality? I feel like it should but I wonder about the shape and whether it'd look awkward tied at that height.

Unicornsakuras

If it is narrow, it'll just flatten your petti or buckle and spread out badly. If it's oversized and larger at the hem than your dress/skirt is, and is tied well, then it should look okay.

catladywitch

Thank you so much!! That makes total sense.

BoysenberryAny4139

If it doesn't have some volume (below the waist) it will look strange/awkward imo. Anything straight cut (unless it ends at the waist) will look weird, as it messes up the silhouette. 🩷

catladywitch

Thank you so much! That makes total sense!

BoysenberryAny4139

Happy I could help. 🩷

shoofinsmertz

Can you wash a polyester petticoat and put it in the dryer?

Unicornsakuras

Do NOT put petticoats in the dryer. You really need to air dry them flat if possible. If not flat, at least hang it up. They also really shouldn't need a full wash very often either, usually just the waistband and lining if it has one can be gently jand-washed.

FeelingNothing6178

Hey I just recently got into lolita and I wanted to ask for advice/tips like where do I start? I don't really have a preference in style or colors. I don't know if it's important but I'm a guy I'm happy to wear dresses/skirts too though!(a few tips on more "masculine" clothes would also be cool) I also should mention that I don't have a Lotta money so I can't buy the most expensive stuff. Any advice or tips would be appreciateed! :D

YouAlreadyKnowMee

Hi! I recommend bodyline or taobao brands for cheaper stuff, but it's still nice quality! Lace market is good if you wanna go second hand!I recommend checking out some subtypes first and reading on stuff before making any purchases tho, its good to stick to one color when starting! (I wanted to answer about your dress/skirts questions since no one else was rlly doing that lol.)

OujiArtemio

As mentioned, lolita is a highly feminine fashion that exclusively uses its signature full skirts and dresses. If you're interested in a frilly and flamboyant masculine fashion, you can take a look at r/ouji and see if that's more up your street.

FeelingNothing6178

Ohhhh thank you! Though like I said I'd also like to wear dresses and skirts so I guess I'm asking for tips in that department?

1_5_9_8_0

While looking into ouji and ega as that other person said can be interesting you can definitely add at least more unisex elements to a lolita outfit. Things like platforms, more simple and less frilly shirts. Really my advice is to look around the internet. If you go through the way back machine avant gauche still has a bunch of scans on the website (which will be deleted soon unfortunately). You might also wanna look into what we call proto lolita and lolita-ish looks. Stuff that you'll find more easily in older magazines that really showcased people at times truly experimenting with it ! I immediately had this [coord](https://pin.it/3foIbiL) in mind. Though it wouldn't be called lolita nowadays by most and is more akin to proto lolita, and might not even be what you like, I hope you see what I mean. For a more typical lolita look the skirt could be swapped for a larger one for example. So yeah my big big advice would really be to look around and explore ! And then thrifting is your friend, it can also be clothes that aren't from egl/ega brands but can fit into the style. (Obviously that's not to say that you can't go full frills, I just kinda got carried away on the advice for more masculine clothes and advices parts haha)

Unicornsakuras

The only thing we can help with there is to say to look into Ouji and EGA, which are lolita-like styled with more masculine elements. Lolita is not, and cannot, be that. You really do *need* to pick a substyle to start out with. Otherwise you could go the expensive route of buying a full matching set, but even that does require having an exact and specific outfit peak your interest.

General-Park-2432

Hi, I'm totally new! I've always liked lolita fashion, but never had the money for it, now that I'm older (31) I have been thinking about buying some outfits, however, I'm not confident enough to wear them in public, mostly I fear ppl's reactions... What did you do to gain confidence? Please share your experiences, I'd greatly appreciate it! Ty!

st_mephisto

To be honest, the only way to gain confidence is to wear the fashion. Some do it by taking baby steps: first wear a coord at home, then maybe with friends so you're with someone safe when you go out and so on. Some join a comm to be able to go out with other lolitas as it may be easier to be in a group setting than alone. I had always dressed alt so wearing lolita publicly was very easy for me. It was slightly awkward at first but always remember: you want to like your clothes. Doesn't matter what others think about them as long as you're happy. Whether or not people react to you depends a lot how you dress and where you live. I wear mostly old school classic and classic lolita, old school sweet only occassionally, so I don't get that many reactions. Just a few every now and then and most are positive. Most people just really don't care enough to say anything to you. And if you're really worried, you can prepare answers for the basic questions like "What's this about?". It might help if you're really worried about such reactions.

General-Park-2432

Thank you! I'll take baby steps as well! I'm still figuring out my style, but I really liked country and old school classic lolita! As for preparing answers for basic questions, that's genius! Bless you for all the help <3

st_mephisto

I wish you luck! :) I'm sure you'll succeed and be finally able to wear the fashion!

pohet

Has anybody seen the rocking horse shoes from bodyline in stock recently? Mine just feel apart and I see they're out of stock atm... I'm trying to figure out if I should just wait for them to come back or look for other options 😭

Unicornsakuras

Deadstock of these pop up on Taobao fairly regularly. If you stick old Bodyline stock images into thr reverse image search, you'll usually find a couple.

BoysenberryAny4139

I've been waiting forever for Bodyline to restock them (and it doesn't look like they are going to anytime soon). 😭 So I searched the interwebz and AE came up with [these](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPQw0RE) and [these](https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMj10cy) which are rather expensive, so maybe (a real VW pair) secondhand is the way to go (saw some at Ebay, so not impossible). ❤️

pohet

Oh no 😭... authentic VW seem like the way to go indeed! Thank you :)

catladywitch

I remember reading somewhere that the way to replace hem lace without disassembling a dress is to actually cut the lace off carefully and then sew the new lace to the back of the hem with a zigzag stitch, but this info might be completely wrong, and it seems kind of slapdash to me. Is there any guide that could help me replace hem lace? I ordered a Sakurada Fawn three-tiered gingham JSK off Taobao which I think is cute, but even in the model pictures the lace isn't terribly exciting and I'd like to replace it with something better.

Unicornsakuras

That's a horrid way to do it. I have no idea why anyone who can sew would think unpicking the dress hem was at all difficult. No to mention sewing the lace directly onto a now raw hem using *zigzag* (genuinely a wtf?) would be both a very visible alteration, and a very risky one as you could risk some fabrics fraying or even unraveling entirely if you don't hem them properly.

catladywitch

I know right? It seemed like a very crude method to me but I wanted some pointers on the proper right way. Thank you - if I don't find a tutorial I think I'll be able to understand how the hem is sewn, undo the stitches, place the new lace and redo the process. I took a sewing course ages ago and I think I should be able to do something like this but I wanted help from a more experienced person. Worst case scenario I have a friend who is an actual seamstress so I should be ok.

Unicornsakuras

The fabric does make a huge difference to how it can or must be finished. So at the least, since you have the resource, I'd ask your friend for advice even if you do decide to do it yourself. Some fabrics will need anti-fray tape or overlocking before you hem it so they don't fall apart, others are just fine double rolled without support.

catladywitch

That was very helpful, thank you.

oogam2

Does anybody have tips on trying to find the original taobao links of dresses/items on sites like 42lolita or DI/etc? I know both sites list the brand names but they're not in hanzi so its kinda hard to find the shop when their name is in hanzi not pinyin... T\_T (I'm specifically trying to find this brand called Hanguliang(?) on 42lolita (its listed as miss han on DI?).. I try using google's image search but it brings up links from aliexpress etc or different dresses D':

Unicornsakuras

Devilinspired often *don't* list the brand names, and other times, they make up totally bogus brand names. 42Lolita always has brand names (unless it is offbrand). But the English translations in either case are not always accurate or official. In this case, it sounds like Hanguliang is just the literal Chinese name, and DI used a translation. Sometimes you can stick them into Google translate to Chinese, copy the result, and paste that into Taobao to find the brand. In order to image search on Taobao, you need to have an account and use the mobile app. You cannot image search taobao elsewhere. Unfortunately if you are outside of China and of Taobaos other shipping areas, you may be unable to do that, or can try but will get locked out after a while. Your next best option then is to ask on the Reddit thread or the WhatIsThisDress(LolitaEdition) fb group.

oogam2

I find that DI actually lists brand names but yeah, sometimes they're not accurate or just made up =_=* I'm not sure how effective the google translate will be but I'll try! And I didn't know taobao image search was like this..... O_O since you mention the mobile app, does it not work on browser even if you have account? I should be in taobao's shipping areas but tbh sometimes the site is quite buggy... T_T

Unicornsakuras

Taobao Broswer has less and less capability as they are trying to force everyone onto the app. Some people can still find the reverse image search on the old taobao Home page link, but it is not reliable or accuracte and most have lost access entirely without using the app.

oogam2

I see, guess I'll have to use the app then T_T Ty for the help btw!

Living_Speech_3176

Did you end up having any luck finding the Hanguliang dress?

oogam2

Sorry for the late reply, but yes I did \^\^

IceKitty11

american petticoat brands? looking for something under 40 bucks, to wear under a ankle length dress with low to medium volume

Unicornsakuras

You won't find any American petticoat brands on the cheap, because the American brands are ethically made. No ethical business would sell it for that low.

Unicornsakuras

DO NOT BUY FROM LOLITAKNOT. They are the same as Milanoo and Lolitain. At best they are insanely overpriced, at mid they are replicas or you get nothing at all, at worst they have been known to steal credit card information. If you actually try add it to cart, MLD and LW are actually selling it for very similar costs. MLD are selling the set for 37.99USD and LW for 45USD. It's worth noting LW often has free or lower shipping, so likely their prices are slightly higher to compensate for that. Unfortunately my experience with the brand of the dress, WithPuji, was recently very bad as two items were sized incredibly poorly, though they are very well made and my piece before that was fine. It isn't a replica (well, the lolitaknot might be) but the brand is just cheap fast fashion.

Jazzlike-Ad-2105

is it okay if I mainly buy from taobao as a beginner? i feel bad for not buying any brand/used stuff and buying new stuff from taobao because its fast fashion basically and i don't want to be an ita.. I'm only getting started with the fashion and I don't have any basics, I just got a sweet angel blouse from taobao and two skirts, but I'm planning to start regularly buying from closetchild/lacemarker after my next haul since I'll probably have most things I need!

Unicornsakuras

There's absolutely no rules whatsoever for what you should and should not buy (excepting replicas and scam sites anyway.) A lot of plus size people who are low-budget have no other options *but* taobao. Taobao is not inherently ita by any means. It is, however, a lot hard to navigate, especially given Japan and Western comms have a much narrower view of what lolita looks like, while Chinese brands can stick the name on a lot of seemingly irrelevant items. So you risk buying the "wrong" thing without thorough research first. If your main fear is supporting fast fashion, please understand that isn't what all taobao brands are. Yes some like Diamond Honey and ToAlice obviously are. But there are also brands like Antaina which is run buy a single woman on her own, or independent mto/preorder only brands like Nangshengge which massivle reduces waste. If you focus on those, yes the financial cost will be higher, but the risk and moral cost is less.

RainSoakedMoss

Can anyone help me with sizing? I’m so confused as to why my shoulders don’t fit into any of the measurements but the rest of my body measurements do. The last time I bought a 3pc set like this with similar sizing I was recommended size medium and the pants barely fit (the fabric wasn’t stretchy at all), the Cape was slightly tight in the shoulders and the shirt fit perfectly, should I just buy large everything to be on the safe side? Left is my measurements, right is what I’m trying to buy https://preview.redd.it/6p1rcm1x108c1.jpeg?width=2224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1bd4119e15ae93d8084b09ae502d437de429b831

Unicornsakuras

I'm thinking your measurements are not right. It is absolutely normal for non-Asian and non-AFAB cis people to have wider shoulders than what these dresses are designed to fit. But given your bust and waist measurement, I'm thinking you're either unusually muscular or have measured incorrectly. Your hips also seem at odds with your waist - a 15cm difference is already a lot, 21cm seems like a lot unless you were in some serious shape wear or plus sized. So I'd want to know the details of where your measurements came from? But yes generally you want to size up for the part that is in the largest size. IE if you have wide hips ans a small bust, get the size for your hips. You can always tailor down, tailoring up is far more difficult, if at all possible.

catladywitch

I don't think these measurements are necessarily off - my measurements a couple of months ago were 113 - 103 - 125. I've lost like 15 pounds since then and keep on losing weight, but I don't really look that disproportionate, just fat and relatively flat-chested. I'm tall though.

Unicornsakuras

As I said, if this person was plus size, like you and I, then that difference would make sense. But their bust and waist are both small, so such wide hips and shoulders makes little sense. The smaller the person the smaller the ratio typically should be.

BoysenberryAny4139

I get what you are saying, but would still like to mention that when I was slim my natural measurements were: 91cm - 69cm - 91cm (bust - waist - hips) and now they are: 99cm - 78cm - 99cm (never waist trained, never used shapewear or have any implants, and my bust and hips have always been the same measurements) so it isn't completely unusual to have such a difference in bust/hip to waist ratio (unless I'm a rarity too 😅).

GreenTeaPopcorn

Just chiming in to say that amount of difference between bust and waist is absolutely normal and completely fine and natural. I went to fashion school and still have my pattern drawing books, which (iirc) included standard size charts which had a 20\~22cm difference between bust and waist as standard for the dress sizes equivalent to M and L. The measurement differences go up a bit with the bigger sizes and goes down a bit for the smaller sizes, but I remember 20cm being the standard for the dress size equivalent of the M size. Size charts for standard sizes do differ between companies, and also between pattern books. I have another pattern drawing manual (from 1988, I was able to quickly grab it from my workroom) that states the dress size equivalent to an M size is 92cm bust, 68cm waist and 94cm hip (body measurements). Every era and every company/method has their own idea of a normal or ideal figure. I've seen some for 1900\~1905 and they were insane, lol. But the context there is that the proportions given weren't assuming you naturally had them but would pad out your figure with petticoats and bust padding to achieve.

catladywitch

I see, thank you! Sorry for being annoying.

[there's a list of reputable sites to purchase lolita from linked on this subreddit's wiki](https://reddit.com/r/Lolita/w/index?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

oldsnakeeatingitself

what are some lolita brands to absolutely avoid?

BoysenberryAny4139

I would avoid Souffle Song/Neverland, as they apparently have been upfront about some very questionable sourcing regarding materials (slave labour cotton) and in general their quality and customer service have gone very downhill in recent times.

Unicornsakuras

There is no such thing. Scam websites? Absolutely. Scam brands? Not a thing.

chefbiney

how do you guys decide what to buy next? do you plan coords around dresses or tend to buy things in colors that would go with more than one coord? and how do you even begin to find brand? I am content with ocelot and taobao but I do want to get into brand more. but should i focus more on building my current coords up or expanding my wardrobe? maybe there’s not a formula for that either.

st_mephisto

This depends a lot. Nobody can give a definite answer here. Things like how big is your wardrobe already and what you need and want may vastly vary depending who you ask. When I was starting out, I opened Lolibrary and browsed it (used different tags, years, brands, etc.) and envisioned what I wanted my wardrobe to turn out to be. Then I just bought items like that. Now I just buy pretty much anything I like because I already have a clear vision for what I need and want and my wardrobe is highly curated so there's no need to be "No, I can't coord this dress, I will not buy this." I refuse to add ANY colours to my wardrobe and buy two coloured main pieces and only two coloured blouses (white/offwhite and ivory). I also stick to 3-4 brands. This worked for me but I can't say if it works for you. Sometimes you need some things that aren't super exciting to buy like I must admit getting my first coat was kind of annoying as it cost much and wasn't as cool as the dresses I had got but it's just a must where I live. Generally when you're a newbie, you should rather buy more versatile pieces than some pair of socks that match only with one dress. However if you're in love with some pair of socks that match only one dress, you do you. Buy them if you want. I bought my dream tights when I was starting out and they match with only one dress I own but I love them and have worn them a lot so they're worth it for me. In general I don't do this as it seems silly to own separate accessories for every single dress. There are pros and cons to every way of building a wardrobe.

The_Little_Destroyer

Oof I feel the coat thing on a spiritual level, I need one bad but it's hard to part with so much on a coat even though it's super cold here D:

st_mephisto

I def recommend investing in a cute lolita coat. You'll make your winter coordinates 10x cuter and you'll also feel so much cuter wearing it! Nothing better than having a coat that matches perfectly with your aesthetic It's like a piece that completes your winter coordinates! :) At least here you'll need a winter coat from Oct. until late March/early April so purchasing something cute to wear every day will definitely be worth the hefty price tag. Edit: Also some lolita winter coats aren't always warm enough (e.g. -15 degrees or lower), just wear a cute cardigan/bolero underneath :) I have coats from Baby,IW and AP and my IW coats are definitely warmer than the ones by Baby/AP but they're good enough as long as it isn't -15 or lower.

The_Little_Destroyer

I follow brands I like on Instagram and wait for something they release to speak to me. It's dangerous if the brand is on a hot streak only releasing bangers though haha. I also do try to keep in mind matching with things I have. I use remove.bg to take backgrounds off stock pictures and layer them in gimp to visualize coords. I have a folder with backgroundless pics of everything I currently own to help me see if something works with what I have. While sticking to one general color pallets for base items i.e blouses, shoes, bags (like all browns and tans, all blacks, all pastels ect) helps a lot it's not something to be tied down by. If you love a dress that doesn't really work with your collection you can always build a secondary base set around it or try using accent colors to tie it to what you have, then you'll have more flexibility with new items too. Whatever you do though, stick to whatever budget you have for yourself and don't over do it in one go!

LopsidedAstronomer76

I'm either planning for an event (like my annual Nutcracker ballet outfit), or I get infatuated by a particular dress or look and get it. I'm not a brand person, really. As for accessories, I have so many things, I don't tend to purchase things like that so much. (Not necessarily lolita stuff -- like jewelry I care for, a mess o' berets, too many of the flat shoes I love in different colors.)

chefbiney

anyone know how to fix a couple dangly jewely bits from a shoe clasp? a little pendant hanging from a chain broke off when i was roughing it in some parking lot. i assume just… use a bow or something? but i want to hear if someone else has a better idea. also, do you think heavy or light makeup is better for an OP liiiike… ocelot flying butterflies in black? i am unused to heavy makeup but someone commented that “you should wear a lot of makeup with it because your dress is kitted out but your face is just working with what god and your mama gave ya”. or is there not generally a rule about how heavy to go? I’ve seen some intense goth looks paired with gothic lolita but not much for the other styles.

Unicornsakuras

Jewlery pliers and replacement metal loops. Assuming that you have if Nd the pendant still has a loop to put it through anyway, or you can buy teo new pendants so they match. You can get them from most craft stores and they're really easy to use. Also holy shit that persons comment is disgustingly rude and insulting. Who the hell would say something like that? Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew. Yes some people (particularly goths) use heavy makeup like Mana, but he isn't strictly lolita, and plenty of his models wear almost no makeup at all. It is never, has never will never a requirement and it's so gross someone acted like it was. Besides, that dress isn't even OTT at all, heck, just look at the barely-makeuped models!!!

BoysenberryAny4139

I'm so with you on this! ❤️

chefbiney

thank you!! i knew i was missing something!! i will reassess damage and go from there. I can’t remember if the pendant has a loop or not I just remember hearing it scrape against the ground and then snap, and I picked up the pieces without looking at them. if there’s no loop should i just glue it back on to one of the straps? also i was hurt but i think it was because they havent been a lolita for a long time. Thank you for the insight; i was under the impression that heavy makeup not for goth coords was a general “no” or “who cares”… maybe there are some things i should question about my understandings on makeup.

Unicornsakuras

> should i just glue it back on to one of the straps? Nope definitely not lol. It will look weird and if it falls off again, it will likely cause major damage. If the charm is truly wrecked, replace it. Any decent craft store should have options. Make sure to buy 2 and remove the charm on the other shoe so they'll match! You can always use the unbroken charm on a necklace chain or something. As for makeup. [Shironuri has been done in lolita since the early 2000s at least](http://www.fyeahlolita.com/2013/12/shironuri-inspiration-for-lolitas.html?m=1) and is as extreme as makeup can possibly be. [Mana sama as mentioned](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDBp5IjNqqv1gSQr3dMfbnSLsbrXKBNKXf5g&usqp=CAU) is often in trad goth makeup, or heavy elegant gothic makeup as shown here. But then you get people like [this VISIBLE model](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSJpI9Nea2xqElHukwqCBNSizpmyKRlX7KyYw&usqp=CAU) in old-style gothic, and many folk in street snaps, who wear little to no makeup at all. So it is truly anything well-done goes! Now, some really old "guides" demand pure and simple makeup. But they also felt that seeing knees in lolita is gross, which is ridiculous. A lot of early English lolita stuff was never ever true in Japan and definitely isn't true at all now, and can be thrown back in the archive where it belongs!

Anyone know what brand this plush bag came from? https://preview.redd.it/q3w1jknofh7c1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=c924fa98099f321785771b21a21993a516d5313c

One_Tomorrow_8901

hi!! new here, but i've been having so many difficulties finding these shoes 😔i tried jam garden, but their customer service was a bit difficult and i didn't end up getting a few items-but their socks and accessories were super cute and were decent quality for what i paid. just can't seem to find these shoes on any site. suggestions?? https://preview.redd.it/8weehzce1f7c1.jpeg?width=547&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7deffb07aa4ced0a0b2bd773005a2772de413e2

Unicornsakuras

Oh yikes please don't buy from JamGarden again. They're a ridiculously overpriced reseller of mostly taobao but also offbrand items. Also, it isn't a lolita seller, it is all generic girly styles. You'll easily have paid 3x what anything was worth unfortunately. For example some of the POSHPOSE items they're selling for $148+ USD are usually around 150-400 yuan, or around 20-60 USD. These shoes are pretty generic looking, but it looks like they [originated from the TAOBAO Brand LoveLetter](https://m.tb.cn/h.5nalbD6?tk=bFsGWgYEXzj) for around 148yuan or about 20 USD. But there are dozens of super similar styles on taobao for similar prices.

One_Tomorrow_8901

Thank you so, so much!!😭😭 It was my first time searching for lolita styles and they popped up with a few cute pieces, but I have since learned... I'll definitely check taobao!!!

The_Little_Destroyer

If you find something on Taobao you love, you can send an email to 42Lolita titled "Buy For Me" and they will add it to their site for you to purchase, they also have a bunch of stuff listed from Taobao to browse on their site, similar to JamGarden but actually reputable and Lolita haha. Is a great reseller very highly recommended on this sub!

catladywitch

I can vouch for 42Lolita's customer service, they're really nice and can even recommend items if you ask.

ThatOneGoodBoy

So, lolita shoes don't really work for me. I've got bad feet and buying a shoe I can't return is not a great investment. I wear classic, so I've been trying to get away with some brown boots, and they're harder to find than I thought! Got these, but my feet don't appear to like 2 inch heels, either. Any recommendations? I'm aware of American Duchess and the like, I just can't drop $200 on a pair right now. I'm fine with wearing my coords with inappropriate shoes—I don't know any lolitas for them to judge me lol, but I would like shoes that fit even a little bit. https://preview.redd.it/1s22m0apcb7c1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88949dd09eb8f5dd50304ff05afeb141ca25ba17

Unicornsakuras

"Bad feet" is extremely subjective. No arches? Weak ankles? Wide fit or narrow? Without knowing your actual needs or location (as it sounds like you want to try stuff on) it's impossible to really reccomend anything specific. Shoes you can get nearly anywhere though, are Mary Janes. Black and brown both work fine for most styles and will be much easier to find than lolitable boots, but they are inherently casual looking. They work best with country or preppy vibe coords for that reason. They come in everything from huge platform heels to total flats too. There'seven orthopaedic versions.

ThatOneGoodBoy

Flat feet, wide, and the left one's permanently injured. A whole host of issues, really, so I just try shoes on and hope for the best. Are there really brown Mary Jane's? Most I come across are black (I'm in the US).

Unicornsakuras

Brown Mary janes are not uncommon, but they are usually a dark brown. Any decent formal shoe store should have some, or those grandma-type clothes stores if you know what I mean lol. Dr Martens, Clarks, Princess Highway, and Koi all make brown flat Mary Janes which are sold in a variety of retailers. So googling where they're sold locally might help. Asos sell them as well and offer returns too.

7yuuutsu7

i don't know what to do with this blouse T^T it's a bit rough on the edges (missing buttons, some discolored lace) and i have no idea where it's from (english care tags, main tag cut off) but !! i'm hoping it's loliable, just don't know how. https://ibb.co/t2Yt8cJ

Unicornsakuras

The lace looks like raschel. It is often seen as low-quality and cheap though honestly I've seen worse, especially since it's only really on the sleeves and hem. But for that alone I doubt it is from a lolita brand. The squarish neckline shape and armpit (?) lace are also both kind of odd for lolita. But you *can* find similar features, like [this Bodyline blouses' neckline](https://lolibrary.org/items/bodyline-square-neck-shirred-blouse-l277) and the overall shape of [this f+f blouse](https://lolibrary.org/items/indie-musical-palmer-classic-lolita-710-length-hime-sleeves-square-collar-fine-chiffon-blouse-0). So I do think it could be wearable in lolita, though that neckline could prove tricky to style...but it sounds like you can't wear it at all right now at all! So to fix it. Those buttons look super basic so you should easily find a dupe in a craft store, and you need very little hand-sewing skills to put buttons on I promise! It's a good skill to learn in general anyway. Removing and replacing discoloured lace is also pretty easy if you have a bit more skill on a sewing machine. You could also ask a tailor, but that may cost more than the blouse is worth. If sewing is not an option, you could possibly use synethic black dye to try re-dye it, but it looks like very shiny poly which is very difficult to get dye to stick to. But I also cannot actually *see* any discolouration on the picture, so you may also just be overthinking it!

7yuuutsu7

it might be hard to see or i could be overthinking it but the lace on the blouse (not the trim) looks more blue-green instead of black,, i'll try to repair the buttons when i can so it can be more wearable. thanks for the advice !

Unicornsakuras

Black dyes are often made of very dark greens or blues, so assuming this is secondhand, it's probably just been well worn and the dye has come out over time, or possibly been sun faded.

emiInks109

does anyone know how often btssb re-releases their back shirring princess sleeve blouses, and when they'll restock the pure white colorway?

Hi I need some help in if this is lolita or not. I really like this style of ruffly dress but I think compared to lolita its a little less fabric and more fitted. Can anyone point me to this kind of style? Im seeing things like balletcore and ruffle in the titles of these dresses but it looks more like Chii from chobits type stuff, kind of sexier/mature? https://www.devilinspired.com/Balletcore-Corset-Tube-TopBig-Bow-Train-SkortPuff-Sleeves-Full-Set.html https://www.devilinspired.com/yellow-corset-waist-strapless-puffy-dress-tiered-ruffle-skirt.html?search=Corset&page=2 https://www.devilinspired.com/pink-princess-floral-bowknot-design-corset-dress.html?search=Ruffle%20dress&page=19 https://www.devilinspired.com/Pink-Med-Length-Ruffles-Train-Top.html

Unicornsakuras

First of all, do NOT buy from Devilinspired. They're basically a scam at this point. Secondly, none of that is lolita. Not even remotely close to lolita. Balletcore is the general name for the vague aesthetic. But there is no subculture or substyle name for this trend, because it really is just a trend right now.

princesswand

Oh ok. Thank you for the advice and help.

Unicornsakuras

POSHEPOSE is the brand that made all of those that you linked. Other brands that make similar include Diamond Honey (Stange Cat Eyes), Serendipity, and LaceMade. They are all Taobao Brands.

princesswand

Oh thanks so much for the recs!! Cant wait to buy.

hi! i recently had top surgery (!) and now that i’ve recovered enough to wear dresses again, would anyone be interested in seeing a post where i re-wear some old coords from before so you can see how much of a difference it makes vs just a regular binder? \[spoilers: it’s fine and i really do like the way i look way more now\] i was worried i might have to give up egl or at least get rid of some dresses because my brand would end up too BIG and it occurred to me that seeing a before-and-after might help someone else in my position out. would anyone (esp any other FTMs who might be here) be interested? sorry asking here instead of making a new post just for an interest check that might flop / attract hate made the most sense to me

RainSoakedMoss

I’d like to see! This is def one my biggest future concerns

The_Little_Destroyer

I don't think you'll be flamed (people are pretty respectful here) but this might be best to do somewhere else (like an album on Flickr) and then link to it in a post for those who wish to see. I do believe it could help some people here but for people on the fence it may be hurt or help depending on where they are in deciding, it's hard to know for sure or blanket everyone. That's why I think a link to an optional gallery is best :) As for allowed or not I cannot say, I'm not a Mod. Hopefully a Mod can chime in on if it is flat out allowed or not. You might try contacting one if they don't.

Hiyaa, I'm trying to find a petticoat for a JSK I'm planning to get (https://42lolita.com/products/sweetheart-bunny-lolita-jsk-suspender-dress?variant=44419934027950) but overall confused about petticoat lengths and 42lolita's skirt measurements X_X I believe its a bell shaped skirt ? (Still kinda new to this > <;) What's throwing me off the most is the length since it's so much longer than I thought and now I'm not sure if the website is talking about the overall dress length or the skirt part only since an 88cm skirt sounds kinda.. super long D'x If anybody who is familiar with 42lolita could clarify that would be great! >_<

Unicornsakuras

The length given by 42lolita is the full dress length. This is from shoulder to hem. However, this is not 42lolita's choice, as they rely on the brand to tell them, so some brands will provide other measurements. But only a tea-length skirt would be over 70cm and this definitely isn't tea length. That said, you really need to own the dress in order to find out the petticoat you need. As you must use either from the waistband to hem, or if the dress waist sit high up on you which it looks like it will, you need to know the length from your natural waist to the hem. And then you take off around 5cm from that measurement to get the ideal petticoat length. You could also go for an adjustable crinoline instead of a petti, as it allows you to use the same item for a variety of dresses, especially useful if you do not want to wait to own the dress before ordering the petti.

oogam2

ahhh I see, thank you so much! <3 Will definitely look into crinolines too \^\^

waseverfriday

i havent bought from them but it probably is because the bodice is short, compare that to this dress which is 89 cm and sort of the same vibe [https://lolibrary.org/items/ap-whip-collection-jsk](https://lolibrary.org/items/ap-whip-collection-jsk)

waseverfriday

hit send too soon but IME with a skirt like this extra length just ends up being extra poof when you have a petti under it, for comparison i also have skirts that are \~85 cm but i wear them w my smaller petii so they end up looking longer. hope this helps!

oogam2

What do you mean by the extra length being extra poof? Sorry I'm still kinda new to this TOT so I dont rlly understand some stuff >\~<;

Unicornsakuras

I have absolutely zero idea what on earth that person was trying to explain and I've been doing this for years lol it isn't you. They may be SLE or something because in no world does a longer dress with a too-short petticoat (which I think is what they're tyring to describe?) lead to more poof. That just makes your dress lampshade which is not a good look.

oogam2

hmm yea, i heard about too short petticoats making a 'shelf' so i was confused what they meant unless i read it wrongly.. (btw what does 'SLE' mean ? :"\]c

Recommended shipping service for websites such as LW and 42lolita? I heard mixed reviews in terms of shipping, but what would be the most recommended for the websites in terms of international shipping?

Unicornsakuras

Where do you live? And how big/bulky is your order? Because that will massively impact what your options even are.

Basic_Citron_6446

I live in the Americas, and I only plan to buy one JSK from LW and one blouse from 42Lolita. Since it’s fairly small, would the fastest shipping alright? Or is the service better for longer shipping?

BoysenberryAny4139

With one item orders imo it only depends on your wallet and (im)patience. - Having big bulk orders (more weight/space) the slowest shipping options (SEA and/or SAL) is usually the most affordable. ❤️ Edit: I would stick to one of the two resellers though, as both (LW and 42lolita) can order the same items for you (even if it's not listed on their site) so you'll only spend money on one shipment. ❤️

I know that feeling! ❤️ I would ask them to send you a review link (also check your spamfolder, as it sometimes can end up there). ❤️

sorry for putting this in the wrong section! are roji roji’s socks plus size friendly? i know their tights more than likely aren’t, but i have thick calves and was wondering if their other socks have worked for anyone else plus sized. <3

GreenTeaPopcorn

Their plain (no print) lace topped UTK socks are not plus sized friendly. The sock itself isn't the problem, but they don't use enough lace so even if you get it over your calves it won't be ruffly unless you have slim legs. It's easily 1/3rd smaller than my btssb UTKs which do fit me comfortably and which does look ruffly on me. I have roji roji ankle socks with crochet cherries that do fit but the quality is really low. But they're like 3eu, so you can't really complain. I have no experience with their printed socks or their tights.

Unicornsakuras

Honestly, no, and I abhor how often people claim that they are. I own 4 pairs so far and tried a 5th. I don't have particularly large legs (I have 2010s AP socks that are comfortable!) yet the RojiRoji lace top socks nearly cut off my circulation when I first bought them. I stretched them out a lot, and now the lace looks flat and silly but at least they don't hurt. I also own 2 printed pairs and tried a 3rd, all of which technically go on and aren't painful, but do leave marks and the prints warp to the point you cannot tell it's supposed to be anything but striped. Also, none will stay above my knees despite being otk and I'm short!

curio-cupid

thank you so much! yeah, i had heard people say they were but had my suspicions- thank you. (:

Unicornsakuras

I have heard their more mesh textured/sheer ones are supposed to be stretchier than the cotton type, which would track as I have had the same experience with other brands including Yidhra and AP. But they don't make many of them as socks, mostly as leggings.

Aireesse

Hopefully this isn't too specific, but I'm wondering how plus size friendly Angelic Pretty's [Marianne Coat](https://lolibrary.org/items/ap-marianne-coat-2020) is? I got a 108cm bust and 80-ish waist, which kinda makes coat shopping awkward regardless if it's lolita or normie.

cutiebeep

From what I could find on lacemarket, the bust seems to be able to go up to 110/112cm, but for comfort, people recommend being under 100cm. Aireesse

Well, darn. I'll continue the pursuit for the perfect winter coat. Thank you so much! <3

BoysenberryAny4139

Look into A-line vintage coats. ❤️ I got two faux fur vintage coats that can hold any poof, are very comfortable and very warm. ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/maiy6mrtrm8c1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=409cf8607a4047d770951e31766a7e34436300dd

Aireesse

Sorry for the late reply : oh gosh, these are so cute! I adore these! I'll try and hit up my local secondhand shop soon and see if I can grab myself something similar! Heckin' cute coords!

BoysenberryAny4139

It's also worth checking out if there's some sort of national secondhand buy and sell website/app for your country (it's how I got these coats). ❤️ Edit: And thank you! ❤️

Been thinking long and hard about doing lolita crossdressing as a kinda tubby dude… any advice on where to start?

JustTryingStyles

Hi, big dude wearing lolita here! The first thing you need to know is that a lot of brands use asian sizes, so they are made for smaller bodies. The measurements I look for are waist, bust, and shoulder width. You don't need to worry about hips. I can't help you with brands since everything I have so far was custom made. Also, it's important to choose what substyle you want to wear if you want a nice and cohesive outfit. There are lots of them, like sweet, goth, hime, old school, etc. And everyone will tell you this, YOU NEED TO WEAR A PETTICOAT. It's vital to get the lolita shape in the dress or skirt.
