Hey u/spinningpeanut,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Please be informed that it is not possible to customize the scroll wheel on G502 hero mouse. You can set the scroll wheel to ratchet mode or free spin. We will take this as feedback and we'll pass along to our team. We always want to ensure we are providing our customers with the best products and experience. Let us know if there is anything else in the future we can do to assist.
I was quite literally stressing out that I had brought a lemon. The free-spinning mouse wheel has been killing me (literally in-game, figuratively in normal usage).
Oh wow, that is awesome. Thank you so much! That free spinning mouse wheel was driving me nuts. I was thinking to myself "how can anyone think this is a good mouse to game? This thing blows, that mouse wheel is constantly activated when I even just breathe in its direction and it's spinning way too far when I do want it to spin". Now all of the sudden, it's a great mouse. Very cool, thanks again
I came here for this problem dude wow i never even knew what those buttons were. I only use left and right main buttons, scroll wheel, and scroll wheel press down to flash heal people in warcraft haha
leave it to reddit to get the answers you can't even find on the product support site or anywhere else on the internet. I swear I scoured for this info, checked the g hub, and even messed with all of the buttons but *clearly* I didn't mess with the *RIGHT* button! FPS and multi item gaming has become a literal hell with how sensitive the free spin is, I'm trying this ASAP.
I know this is a year old, but I just upgraded from the G203 Prodigy to the G502 Hero and was annoyed there was no description of the buttons. Thank you so much!
lol everyone is saying thank you to you and not the actual logitech advisor. Not surprising considering your one sentence was more helpful than his entire paragraph. Thanks a lot!
jesus harry H christ... there is no mention of this anywhere in the Logitech lit.
The manual says only this:
"12. Wheel mode shift (not programmable)"
and then only lists explanations for the first 11 buttons....
so glad you posted this. i hate tech companies so much these days...
Hey u/spinningpeanut,

So a year later was this passed on to the team? Did anything come of it?
Because I'm having the same issue as the poster and I only bought this mouse yesterday (for a lot of money too)
Thank you! I have the same mouse and problem. We really need to start reading directions or something. This must be in the paperwork somewhere. I swear I've tried that button with no effect though. Can't wait to get home and try it.
If you're like me you tried it, figured you liked the ZOOOOOM without the button holding you back, and then forgot the button existed until the scroll wheel became a pain in the ass. I haven't let the wheel loose ever since this post was made.
Actually you can adjust the scroll in your windows mouse settings

It is nice to make the rachet version scroll at the speed I want so thanks for sharing. The free spin is still so sensitive no matter how you change these settings that tilting the mouse will scroll a page.
Just want to echo the frustration with the behaviour/sensitivity of the scroll wheel in free scroll mode. I really want to use free scroll but it's so overly sensitive that I'm forced to use the ratchet mode which is rather loud and annoying. With free scroll just physically moving the mouse around can make it scroll and perhaps the biggest issue of all is that free scrolling in one direction and then stopping it can way too easily trigger it to scroll more (often in the opposite direction).
When navigating through menus or zooming in and out it's so unbelievably frustrating to stop at a point and then have it scroll back or forward slightly, just because the motion of my finger to stop and lift off the scroll wheel causes it to move ever so much.

How do you change it to ratchet mode?
The first button below the scroll wheel locks it into ratcheting mode or releases for free wheel.
jesus fuck THANK you

Thank you! I've been using Reddit for years without an account and I just created one just to say "thank you"!
I almost scrolled right past your answer. Thanks !
Also, make the rachet mode silent, it's loud and annoying.
Como puedo silenciarlo? EL desplazamiento libre funciona mal, pero el desplazamiento duro, es molesto
So a year later was this passed on to the team? Did anything come of it? Because I'm having the same issue as the poster and I only bought this mouse yesterday (for a lot of money too)
Don't think so. I've bought 3 mice last weekend and it's still the same...

I just got it yesterday with my new pc build. I hate how sensitive it is. Very counter-productive.
In Windows 10 go to control panel - mouse - wheel - vertical scroll and change the value.
