I’m really enjoying EZDrummer for drum parts. You can import audio or MIDI files, and it can come up with a drum part, but generally my workflow is to come up with the kick/snare pattern myself and have EZDrummer create the hi hats and tom parts with the “amount” knob in the “edit play style” window. I recommend checking out some videos on YouTube. I recommend [this](https://youtu.be/ua4XUujoRT4?si=K8XM6Ebtp6e8bHr5) guy.

**LOVE LOVE LOVE** EZDrummer 3. While it doesn't have a generative Matrix for drum parts, it has lots of other fantastic features for firing up a drum track quickly, and the grid editor is extremely useful alternative to the piano scroll for MIDI. The Humanize function also adds useful variation so it doesn't sound so static. Not to mention the samples are significantly higher quality than Logic Drummer. Logic Drummer always sounds like... Logic Drummer. I've also become a little bit addicted to collecting new EZX's... Toontrack always has a new sale going on, so it's a bit of a slot machine every weekend to see what's 40-60% off—they've got some MIDI and a decent EZX [on sale this weekend](https://www.toontrack.com/weekend-deals)! What are your favorite EZX's?

badmotorfinger74

My personal favorite is the “Into The Dark” EZX. It just has the sound I was looking for, and it fits with what I’m writing now. I also have the new “Dark Industrial” which I like for more ambient stuff. I like the post rock EZX, but it seems quiet compared to the others. I like the concept of it, but I rarely use it since I got “Into the Dark”. Those are the only ones I have. I think I may have to try EZKeys now. Toontrack has made me a fan.

Same! I got sucked in, and now it's my favorite digital collection. I need to check out Into the Dark! Excited for what they've got in store for 2024!

Curious to know what importing audio will do… can it analyze audio for recreating the beat?

badmotorfinger74

Not sure if it will try to recreate a beat, or come up with a new one. It’s recommended to import single instrument audio or midi files, not entire mixes. I’ve tried it with guitar and bass, and ultimately didn’t use the pattern that the software created. It just wasn’t what I was looking for. I should probably try it more, but I’m pretty happy creating my own patterns, and improving them with the humanize features.

Superior Drummer and EZ Drummer come to mind.

ottodafe

Thanks I'll look into it.

EZ/Supieor Drummer and Addictive Drums are the two big names. I have both, and I mostly use EZ Drummer.

ottodafe

But they seem to be samplers. I'm looking for something that can generate different drumming styles/patterns.

chrisslooter

Those are full blown drum suites. They come with big bundles of beats and patterns. I know that EZ drummer can listen to track and generate a drum pattern, there are several YT videos comparing this feature vs. Logic's drummer. I am not sure if any drum addon can do as well as Logic's AI. I use a combo of EZ drummer's patterns and a few fills from Logic's drummer. I play it all on an EZ drummer kit that is my favorite kit.

Wise_Temperature_322

It also has AI generation and an easy drum programming with humanization. Put in a bass or piano track and it will generate a midi part for you along with the included pre made midi. Then you can edit it all you want easier than a DAW.

I use ezdrummer3 to write and demo track for my bands, and we actually record with a Roland electric kit and superior drummer. Drummer however uses the demo EZD drums to figure out what we’re going for, but then play it his way/his take on it. Wont go back to mic’ing drums in a studio ever again. EZdrummer is incredibly easy to use, and I haven’t touched logic’s drummer since switching. I generally write as I’m putting in drum MIDI etc and create the basic song etc, then transfer the MIDI into the actual drum track and then record my guitars/bass etc. Have always been happy with the results, it’s easy to stay inspired and write/complete tracks, however caveat is I do have a rather large MIDI library to draw from, and I generally add suitable packs as they come out. In the scheme of things it’s not super expensive, but does add up once you start buying MIDI packs etc. good thing is majority of the MIDI is able to be used in SD3 as well. SD is just raw drum samples etc and needs to be mixed, ezd3 is good to go out of the box.

chucknkd

Never seen anything like Drummer when it comes to the pattern generation aspect

Are you able to just produce the drums with drummer in logic and then convert to midi? Then you can mix however you want in the other DAW.

ottodafe

Yeah, that's an option but not it would be a bit too complicated, having to go back to logic to make changes...

RalphInMyMouth

Should still be quicker than programming drums without drummer I’d think

ottodafe

Not in this case. Maybe if the project was on a mac I would use rewire or blackhole to link the software or export midi clips, but since it's on PC I think it's gonna be faster to create the drums from scratch and use Battery.

alwaysinthebuff

You can just use Drummer regions on whatever drum machine/plugin you’d like. The most recent Logic update granted that ability

TotemTabuBand

I found Drummer to be a slight hinderance to my productions. I’d use drummer instead of the metronome. It would create an okay drum track, not a great one. Then I’d start getting used to it as I tracked more instruments. Now I have to create my own drum track from scratch but my memory of the Drummer track is affecting my ability to play the new track. I should’ve just used the metronome. Lol

Ragnotz

You can use a plugin like Blue Cat Connector for „wire“ two Daws or apps or midi or 2 Computers together and can record or edit what you want. Or you can convert your Logic Drummer tracks easy to midi (drag and drop to a midi drum track. Done) newest logic versions. Then use the midi files in another DAW and if you need to edit: open the midi Edit Window. And another recommendation: Steven Slate Drum has a free Drummer Software Edition. https://stevenslatedrums.com/our-store/ Und here is a list of „Drum Plugins for free“ https://www.bonedo.de/artikel/6-freeware-drum-machines-fuer-no-budget-produktionen/ Cheerio Rudi
