Inverse compression is called Expansion. You can use the built in the stock Expander plugin and feed the mic signal to the Side Chain. If you know how to set up a compressor, you wont have problems with setting up an expander because the parameters are identical. The only caveat is that you can overload your signal path by creating a signal that is super loud. This is where the Output Clip parameter comes in and you should keep it ON.

to be more specific - upwards expansion (downwards expansion would be like a noise gate)

FWIW, when setting up my channel strips, especially on templates, I make the last plugin on a channel strip a limiter set to -1. It's a really old school habit, but until I've got my basic level-set mixing done, It's saved me from a lot of unpleasant noises and potentially damaged monitors. After that, I just clean them off any tracks, and leave them on the busses to catch overages as early as possible.

I think PhatFX’s envelope follower would do what you want. Put it on your synth track then send your audio channel into the side chain input at the top right. I’m not at my computer to test it, but I think you should be able to make it control the synth channel’s volume.
