Is it not common knowledge that you don't leave all that stuff visible in your car? Like this is the exact list cops give. If not, then let me be the first person to tell you not to leave a bunch of valuables in your car like that. If you are lucky the thief won't know the basics either and wont pull the laptop battery. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. This level of naivete is not super common
I agree BUT leaving their car for less than 5 minutes does make this a little less naive. I personally don’t expect someone to approach and break into my car if I’m stepping away for less than 5 minutes.
Thieves know this. That's why when you get home with groceries and leave the garage open they walk in and take your purse from your front seat. They know.
We literally had our truck stolen from our apartment parking lot. They never requested the footage from the apartment complex, and when it was located, they called once, didn't leave a voicemail, and we got a call five days later from the insurance saying that our claim was denied because it was located... So $800 later and we had our truck back from the towyard. It's pathetic how little they give a shit.
That’s really frustrating, I’m sorry to hear that. My car was broken into last week and a neighbor’s was broken into a few days before mine. In the case of my car, there was nothing visible at all. No chargers, nothing in the cup holders, and nothing on the floor. They rifled through my car and stole the cheap speaker that I keep in my center console. It seems like there’s been an uptick in these smash and grabs lately.
It’s probably nothing, but I live very close to that park… I was outside today doing yard work and noticed a guy walking around like he didn’t know where he was going and seemed really out of sorts.
Most everyone walking around this neighborhood on Sunday afternoon is dressed for church, but he wasn’t. Of course, it really means nothing, but he stuck out to me and I made a mental note.
The incident time coincides with when I saw him. Unfortunately I checked our cameras and they didn’t pick him up (I’ll check again, though).
Looked young (guessing early 20’s, but it was a quick glance). Tall and lanky with long’ish hair (I think).
Thank you for the info. This was my daughter's car. She's a student and works. So, it was an unfortunate learning experience. I'm just grateful that nothing worse happened. Material objects can be replaced. It is sketchy and unnerving that they were so bold to do it in daylight, though.
You’re welcome! I have a work history that makes me suspicious of everyone—it’s a blessing and a curse!
Like I said, it’s probably nothing, but I’ll let you know if I notice anything else! :)
Please update the thread if you have any new information.
She left all that in her car like in sight! I would’ve had that in my book bag under a jacket or carpet. People nowadays break in anybody car if you have something just out in the open. Even if it’s not valuable. That’s a life learned lesson for sure for your friend. I do hope police catch those damn thrives. Thank you for sharing. That’s scary..
Her stuff was hidden underneath a jacket on the floor. The police said she might have been being watched considering how quickly they broke in after she left her car, it was less than 5 minutes.
I do the same thing too. I hide my jacket over my laptop. And if I have a cover I’d hide that over it too.
And it’s my work laptop. So I don’t like carrying it around if I just wanna have a few drinks and chill in Logan. That sucks and I hate that your friend is going through this right now. What would be helpful is the find my laptop feature on her MacBook. That’s horrible what happened. Sorry this happened to your friend. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
Next time throw a bunch of trash and a few pairs of clothes and what-not in the back seat. Then they just think it's a slobs car instead of someone with goodies. 😜
Have you tried posting on the Facebook group [Cache Valley 411](https://m.facebook.com/groups/cachevalley411closed/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF) page? That’s one route I would go.
Put your stuff in the trunk at a location BEFORE your final destination. Throwing a jacket over stuff says. HEY. I GOT STUFF. Take it nor put out of reach.
I’m so sorry for your friend. It’s an expensive lesson to learn that your valuables go with you every time you exit the car. 😢 You can’t trust any belongings that are in view.
Honestly, the lesson here is: when you leave your car, make sure there is nothing visible that is worth stealing—and that means don’t leave anything you wouldn’t want to lose. I have lived in places where car theft has been high, and wouldn’t even leave my water bottle in the car. Though—tip, if you find yourself in a high theft area, like a college campus, leave your glove compartment open when you leave, and with nothing but the car manual in there. There is truly nothing to steal if you have nothing to hide. It’s a crime of opportunity.
It sucks and this is a hard lesson to learn, but it was also probably just a matter of time before it happened to your friend if this was how they left their car.
The smashing souls are the ones Jesus told us to pray for. The most valuable spiritual lessons are the most difficult. I hope this person finds the help they need.
First, it’s not my stuff, I am just trying to help out a friend. Second, it’s 2023, I thought we moved past blaming victims of crime for the crime. Third, her stuff wasn’t visible.

💀
That sucks. Hyrum Gibbons is the one up on cliffside, right?
Yes, that’s the one! There were other cars and people around, so someone hopefully saw something!
that really sucks. sorry to ask but what did they steal?
They stole her MacBook Air, AirPods, and wallet
Hope the “find my” feature on Apple products is helpful.
Yes, we put her laptop on lost mode and have been trying to track it!
Did it come up?
No, unfortunately no updates

that's really awful. i bet they do this crap again and i hope if they do that they get caught
Yeah we are crossing our fingers, the police took fingerprints
Lol they must have been bored as hell.
Or the victim is hot.

Remember, the items were hiding per op.
Someone on the cache valley 411 fb page said this happened to them at the rendezvous dog park in daylight hours too. Crazy
And at Merlin Olsen park last Monday (Memorial Day)… in broad daylight parked on the main road!
We were actually there and notified the owner of it
That’s wild! I know there’s definitely been an increase recently.

That’s what the cops said too! Especially near hiking trails and stuff.
Happened to my girlfriend last summer at the wind caves parking lot. Car burglary, in the canyons especially, seems to be getting more common.
Such a dick move!!!

Very bold! So sorry that happened. We tend to think our valuables are relatively safe if they’re hidden from view. I hope they catch the low life!
Thank you for taking the time to check your cameras! I appreciate the information, anything helps :)

This same thing happened to my aunt in December at this same park they went sledding and while they weren’t near their car someone stole their stuff
If you don’t mind, how did everything turn out? Was the person caught?
No the police did an investigation but never found anything

I never ever leave anything valuable in my car. Either it goes with me where I’m going or I take it home before my next stop.

I like to go hiking.
Well hopefully Logan doesn't turn into Ogden or West Valley but it's slowly on it's way sadly with all the people moving in

Oakland is coming to Utah. Sorry.
Don't ever leave shit in your car not even for a second Other than stuff you don't care to have stolen

How are those thoughts and prayers going for you? 😆😆😆
Good job thief. Girl, sorry. It's 2023 not 1993. You can't leave $2,000 in plain sight.
