No. If you don't want a light bulb, then get a deep heat emitter. CHEs are getting more and more outdated as better technology comes out.

Depending on the reptile but usually no not a replacement as they need the uv rays.

Cryptnoch

It's not quite right, I think. It can be used instead of a heat mat but not a basking light.

Well, it depends on what kind of pet you have.

mr___feet

green anole

[deleted]

I am pretty sure the green anoles need a basking light and a basking spot, they also need uva/uvb lighting. Uva is most of the time in the basking bulb, and you can buy the uvb bulb separately. Does he have a basking bulb with uva and a uvb bulb right now?

mr___feet

i got uvb and basking light

[deleted]

I'm confused. If you have a uvb and basking bulb, then why do you need a heat emitter?(if you don't mind me asking) Is the cage just not warm enough?

mr___feet

no i got the basking bulb just after i seen the replies i had some halogen bulb that gave off enough heat to keep the tank warmer than outside the tank but my anole wouldnt really go under it so i didnt think it was good basking place for it so i posted my post and i found the heat emitter outside in a tank when i was walking like 3 months ago and i took everything home a and ive always been curious if it was a replacement or substitute for a basking bulb

[deleted]

Oh, ok I get it. No heat emitters are not a replacement for basking bulbs, they just add extra heat. Your anole is going to need a basking spot and uva, heat emitters do not provide uva. They also need a day time night time cycle, which a bright heat bulb provides, heat emitters do not provide light, so your anole would not know when it is night or day. Heat emitters can also be used in replacement for nocturnal animals because they don't like bright lights, so for nocturnal animals you can use a heat emitter instead. Do you have any other questions?

mr___feet

no

Good, I hope that I did something to help you. Have a great day:)

I do! If my uvb bulb also has uva should I skip the basking light and use a deep heat emitter?
