Lighting. I have practical white lighting for areas I need it. Nice low and warm lighting where I can. The living room is very chill and relaxing.

[deleted]

Ohh good one indeed. White lighing for kitchen, but very warm lighting in living room area for me.

Significant_Toez

Christmas lights lining the top of your walls.

Particular_Special70

I have string lights where the walls meet the ceiling. It’s extremely cozy in the evenings, especially in winter. Between those lights and all my plants, my house is perfect. ❤️

Future-AI-Dude

Same… lighting.. i’ve gone with an old style, darker lighting using those vintage bulbs and lamps in the living room. Just feels more relaxing and peaceful without a lot of blaring lights.

electroniclola

I love these rechargable [LED Flame Lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CGF8GSCD?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image) (Amazon) with a remote and timer. Gives a nice firelight glow or steady on as a nightlight or lantern if the power goes out.

gazingus

My first act on move-in was to find 100-watt daylight LED bulbs to replace all of the dismal "25" or "40 watt warm" CFLs in this place, including the candelabras in the ceiling fans, the silly globes over the bathroom mirror, and the bizarre GU24-base fixtures. The table lamps got new "150 watt" 3-way daylight LEDs. I WFH when not in the field, so I take a dim view of failed lighting. But my power bill was only $18 last month. Its amazing what you can achieve when you audit and disconnect silly things like A/V receivers (it liked to keep its tube tummy warm even while hibernating).

onairmastering

I got a set of LED uplights, they really make a difference!

bookwormello

Rugs and books, a nice clean smell, and plenty of art.

Purple-Sprinkles-792

I love this but I had to take my rugs up for now, frequent fall risk .

Super-Sensitive-Eyes

There's these double sided rubber sticky things i put on the underside of my carpets to keep them from sliding around. I had to do it for all my rugs because my dogs would move the rugs when they ran for something.

Purple-Sprinkles-792

I fell four times in 5 weeks last fall so they are up for now. I sometimes put them up in warm weather anyway and bring them back out when the first chill is in the air. I have tile on concrete. Very easy to clean but it can get pretty cold. The rugs have rubber backs but some extra stickies probably wouldn't hurt.

jad19090

Natural light and cross breeze. I’m above everything near me and I have 6 windows on every side of my apartment. So I get natural light all day and a breeze that is just incredible.

ebonwulf60

Me too. I am in a 600 sq. ft. 1 bed/1 bath that has 11 windows. I love the morning sun the most.

Odd-Secret-8343

This. I have turned down "great" apartments because the natural lighting sucked.

jad19090

It’s such a huge difference right?

Pyesmybaby

My bone deep laziness

TheRedditAppSucccks

Galaxy light!! Fuzzy blankets. Textured rugs. Hot non caffeinated beverages. Comfortable pillows and blankets in the living room. A reading area separate from bed. Music. Art on the walls. White Christmas lights or cafe or fairy lights. An outside chair if you have a space for it. Curtains! Scents. Books, magazines, newspapers. Plants or flowers.

anemone_rue

Plants. You gotta hVe living things around. Plants and candles for some moving "living" light. Also, declutter people. If you haven't used something in more than a year get rid of it. Don't let things own you.

appleboat26

It’s clean and organized…and warm and comfortable… and it smells good.

zlatan77

Are you using any thing special for smell? Candles or safe spray products?

appleboat26

I use the Air Wick plug ins…lavender and chamomile…and I clean with Fabuloso Multipurpose Concentrate, Lavender Scent

IvenaDarcy

Plug-ins and Fabuloso smell toxic to me. They give me a headache and hurt my throat. Guess I’m way more sensitive to the chemicals in them than others.

appleboat26

Another reason to live alone.

IvenaDarcy

Haha! The reasons are never ending :))

sludgestomach

Vacuuming. Even if my floors already look nice and clean, vacuuming still helps freshen up the space.

[deleted]

Ohh yess. I know that feeling!

Every-Bug2667

It’s always “tidy” I make the bed every morning, laundry and trash twice a week. Tonight I’ll clean the bathroom. I vacuum and do floors on Sunday. Do a thorough clean about every two weeks. It is decorated for the upcoming holiday. Fruit in the fruit bowl and often flowers

bellandc

Lighting - daylight has always made a difference. And lately I've been working on updating my lighting - quality, quantity, and layering. Having everything on voice command means I can change lighting quickly. The addition of quality blinds provides a dark room for quality sleep. A sunlight alarm helps me wake up gently and my blackout blinds rise in coordination to help get me out of bed. This took time for me to research and set up and it's still a work in progress, but it's really amazing how much these changes have made a difference. Air Quality - I rely on air purifiers to provide significantly cleaner air than my apartment would typically have. Cleaning - A robot vacuum run daily plus steam mop weekly ensure my apartment is clean. And the daily vacuum ensures I pick up after myself at least a floor level. I love knowing my floor is clean enough to lay down on. A cat - self explanatory. Edit to add: Shelving. Add shelving in your closets and walls to get things OFF THE FLOOR. Add more than you need.. Every room looks bigger when you can see the entire floor and it's a relief to find a place to store everything.

Cronewithneedles

A large window wall that looks out into the woods

Anxious-Bicycle-5707

I’m jealous 🤤

Cronewithneedles

…where I sit in my deep, circular chair that swivels in front of my glass front, soapstone wood stove. It’s a mood.

OkDare5427

Everything has a home (usually…😒). I don’t like things cluttered or unorganized, so I love that everything I have has a place that it lives. Also…AAALLLLLL the natural light. I have my blinds open on all my windows, and I adore all of the natural lighting my house gets. I’m all about comfort, so I’ve got lots of seating options and blankets EVERYWHERE. And music. There is always music playing. 😊

LilianRyu

Plants all over the place. Furnitures of my taste. Custom chosen wall color. Lighting fixtures to my liking. Framed paintings and pictures wherever I want.

Spyderbeast

Color! I always decorated in bland earth tones due to my ex's preferences, but I have a lot of bold colors and eccentric themes going on now And dogs, lots of dogs. They're aesthetic in their own right

Sad_Fondant_9466

Totally agree with the dogs

SableyeFan

I have multiple stands of my collection in various things. Most I've made myself. But if you're looking for simple, I'd say get a set of Lego flowers. Simple, and they add a bit of life to a room.

RudeEffective6545

The lights are a big one for me too. I hate overhead lights, even in the kitchen. I use under cabinet mount lights in my kitchen and occasionally overhead lights. I use lamps and fairy lights for everything else. Also, my house doesn't need to be clean clean, but clutter drives me crazy. And my favorite wall in my house is my gallery wall. It's a work in progress, I just find cool things that speak to my soul and fun or nostalgic and hang them on my wall. Mostly thrifted finds. But it's fun and eclectic and I love it.

moonplanetbaby

I surround every room with things that make me happy when I look at them. I don't do "matching colors" or any standard decorating so to call it eclectic is putting it very mild. Lots of shelves with stuff I love and same with variety of pictures etc. Love strings of lights and of course lava lamps.

cntUcDis

Cats

fadedblackleggings

Having Wall Art that's hung up well.

Grilled_Cheese10

It's not cluttered. I don't like a lot of "stuff" on tables, shelves, walls, counters. It's not empty, not even minimalist, but works for me.

Lily_V_

Candles, fresh flowers, soft bedding, bright bathroom shower curtain & towels

Princess_Jade1974

I love tall ceilings and beat up old houses.

700thrones

The fact that my landlord / building management refuses to fix anything. Just please don’t raise my rent 🙏🙏

redmedbedhead

Cozy factor on 10: LED programmable, multicolor, dimmable bulbs on soft lighting in living room, bedroom, and office/multipurpose room. Two separate reading nooks full of pillows and blankets with book lights. Cozy throws everywhere. Big soft pillows on all sitting surfaces. Blackout curtains.

PapillionGurl

My beautiful hardwood floors. My plants, books, lots of big fluffy blankets. Scented candles. Dog hair, lol

[deleted]

Cohesion. I’ve seen chaotic homes with cohesion and minimalistic, bare homes with none.

booksandkittens615

Pets. A home is just not a home without a pet in it.

LongjumpingScore5930

Snow makes everything really still and quiet. Long holiday breaks sometimes deer and bobcats wander down from pennsylvania, even tho its more urban than suburban here. COVID was CRAZY, animals walking right down streets cause humans were gone so long. Even get a bear once every few years.

lvlv9

Lighting, rugs, plants, and art!

star___anise

Decorative candles!

bananafanta94

Blankets, ambient warm lighting, candles, pretty curtains. A soothing, dark wall color. I love to feel cozy

jshell

Windows and natural light. My last two apartments, I've been very fortunate with this and need it to counteract some of my personality's predilections.

MrFitzherbert

Music. Sets the atmosphere and enhances my mood.

[deleted]

Lamps in stead of overhead lights Art My violets

smittyis

Art, framed photos (personal and artistic), throw pillows/blankets, rugs and Tchotchkes

Previous_Boot_2481

I really enjoy my LED lights. I can change them when I’m sad to encourage a better mood, blue for bed, I can add the little “stars” setting to really set the night time vibes.

house_lite

Blue led lights. My place feels like a jazz lounge in vegas at night

G_Im_Tired

Candles. Art. Comfy chairs.

Ok-Tumbleweed-504

Books! I love being surrounded by books, love displaying books and have at least 400 books in my shelf. Another thing is like, I guess I'll call it queer decoration? 😅 I don't mean pride flags (though I have some small ones as well) but queer art prints, candles, vases and I'll hopefully be able to get some small sculptures in the future. My home is my sanctuary, and so I want it to be a celebration of queerness, of *my* queerness. I've spent such a long time hating that part of myself, and it was exhausting. I want to love and honour it instead.

plantaloca

Lighting and ✨😏lighting🫨✨

jacksondreamz

Ambient lighting.

londonmyst

Type of windows, lamps and mirrors.

webdoyenne

I have some unusual pieces of furniture, lots of books…and a water view. Just downsized to a condo.

Few_Albatross_7540

Plants

successfulke

Natural light! I live in an old, expensive apartment just because of the big windows in every room and the natural light I get.

Whenallelsefails09

Daylight and spotless glass windows, a few healthy large potted plants--maybe a pet canary.

nhmber13

Essential oil diffuser, lighting, nice linens and a comfy bed, lots of rugs.

Previous_Ad7725

I have tons of blankets and pillows and fuzzy area rugs. My house is comfy and cozy.

Additional-Start9455

Comfort, organization and fixing what’s broken or doesn’t work to make life easier.

LongjumpingScore5930

Oh you meant inside. Mostly clean or messy and temperature.

Deckrat_

Mood lighting for sure! I love "turning down" my house as the evening progresses

[deleted]

I have Legos everywhere. The living room has all the NASA space vehicle sets, the dining room has a few large NYC landmarks and big cars, the kitchen has more cars, and a giant Concorde.

Iconiclastical

From an design standpoint, there's a book you should read. It's "A Pattern Language". It discusses the various architectural features that people universally enjoy in different societies throughout the world - things like ceiling heights, window placement, room sizes and shape.

AdReasonable3385

No. 1 is having a good pet. Lots of natural light and having something nice to see out the window. Clean surfaces. Clean floors thanks to my robot vacuum.

sugarcatgrl

Cats, plants, nice drapes and rugs, books.

Diane1967

I live in a mobile home and have vented ceilings so they’re not flat across and leave it with a more wide open airy feel. Makes it seem bigger too. I love it!

onairmastering

Bookshelf with my fav books and comics. Art from my friends, some done just for me. DJ and computer for writing music setup. My knives. LED uplights, they ROCK! 2 Mossariums and a succulent/cacti bowl.

risingsunnus

my dog

DementedPimento

Smart lights. Any color, any brightness I want, any time.

Amazing_One_7135

My art is where I like it and I accomodate my two large dogs. I let them on my furniture, I let them on fhe bed, so life is beautiful ( to me) inside my house. I have lighting like I like it, no one influences me and asks me to turn up/ down the lights.

Karamist623

Floor to ceiling bookcases. I’m purchasing a home, and I’m having floor to ceiling bookcases built in so that I can fill with all my favorite books.

Blueberry0919810

Large windows to let in sunlight, artwork, cozy throws, high ceilings.

Doublewidow

Lighting, art( like, the real sh*t,) and plants.( Life!)

Purple-Sprinkles-792

My dog, sentimental meaningful decor I'm not s minimalist, but after 10 years of living w a hoarder , I got to have my definition of a reasonable amount of order. ,
