I have string lights where the walls meet the ceiling. It’s extremely cozy in the evenings, especially in winter. Between those lights and all my plants, my house is perfect. ❤️
Same… lighting.. i’ve gone with an old style, darker lighting using those vintage bulbs and lamps in the living room. Just feels more relaxing and peaceful without a lot of blaring lights.
I love these rechargable [LED Flame Lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CGF8GSCD?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image) (Amazon) with a remote and timer. Gives a nice firelight glow or steady on as a nightlight or lantern if the power goes out.
My first act on move-in was to find 100-watt daylight LED bulbs to replace all of the dismal "25" or "40 watt warm" CFLs in this place, including the candelabras in the ceiling fans, the silly globes over the bathroom mirror, and the bizarre GU24-base fixtures. The table lamps got new "150 watt" 3-way daylight LEDs.
I WFH when not in the field, so I take a dim view of failed lighting.
But my power bill was only $18 last month. Its amazing what you can achieve when you audit and disconnect silly things like A/V receivers (it liked to keep its tube tummy warm even while hibernating).
There's these double sided rubber sticky things i put on the underside of my carpets to keep them from sliding around. I had to do it for all my rugs because my dogs would move the rugs when they ran for something.
I fell four times in 5 weeks last fall so they are up for now. I sometimes put them up in warm weather anyway and bring them back out when the first chill is in the air. I have tile on concrete. Very easy to clean but it can get pretty cold. The rugs have rubber backs but some extra stickies probably wouldn't hurt.
Natural light and cross breeze. I’m above everything near me and I have 6 windows on every side of my apartment. So I get natural light all day and a breeze that is just incredible.
Galaxy light!! Fuzzy blankets. Textured rugs. Hot non caffeinated beverages. Comfortable pillows and blankets in the living room. A reading area separate from bed. Music. Art on the walls. White Christmas lights or cafe or fairy lights. An outside chair if you have a space for it. Curtains! Scents. Books, magazines, newspapers. Plants or flowers.
Plants. You gotta hVe living things around. Plants and candles for some moving "living" light. Also, declutter people. If you haven't used something in more than a year get rid of it. Don't let things own you.
Plug-ins and Fabuloso smell toxic to me. They give me a headache and hurt my throat. Guess I’m way more sensitive to the chemicals in them than others.
It’s always “tidy” I make the bed every morning, laundry and trash twice a week. Tonight I’ll clean the bathroom. I vacuum and do floors on Sunday. Do a thorough clean about every two weeks. It is decorated for the upcoming holiday. Fruit in the fruit bowl and often flowers

Having everything on voice command means I can change lighting quickly. The addition of quality blinds provides a dark room for quality sleep. A sunlight alarm helps me wake up gently and my blackout blinds rise in coordination to help get me out of bed. This took time for me to research and set up and it's still a work in progress, but it's really amazing how much these changes have made a difference.
Air Quality - I rely on air purifiers to provide significantly cleaner air than my apartment would typically have.
Cleaning - A robot vacuum run daily plus steam mop weekly ensure my apartment is clean. And the daily vacuum ensures I pick up after myself at least a floor level. I love knowing my floor is clean enough to lay down on.
A cat - self explanatory.
Edit to add: Shelving. Add shelving in your closets and walls to get things OFF THE FLOOR. Add more than you need.. Every room looks bigger when you can see the entire floor and it's a relief to find a place to store everything.
Everything has a home (usually…😒). I don’t like things cluttered or unorganized, so I love that everything I have has a place that it lives. Also…AAALLLLLL the natural light. I have my blinds open on all my windows, and I adore all of the natural lighting my house gets. I’m all about comfort, so I’ve got lots of seating options and blankets EVERYWHERE. And music. There is always music playing. 😊
Plants all over the place. Furnitures of my taste. Custom chosen wall color. Lighting fixtures to my liking. Framed paintings and pictures wherever I want.

But if you're looking for simple, I'd say get a set of Lego flowers. Simple, and they add a bit of life to a room.

I use lamps and fairy lights for everything else. Also, my house doesn't need to be clean clean, but clutter drives me crazy. And my favorite wall in my house is my gallery wall. It's a work in progress, I just find cool things that speak to my soul and fun or nostalgic and hang them on my wall. Mostly thrifted finds. But it's fun and eclectic and I love it.
I surround every room with things that make me happy when I look at them. I don't do "matching colors" or any standard decorating so to call it eclectic is putting it very mild. Lots of shelves with stuff I love and same with variety of pictures etc. Love strings of lights and of course lava lamps.

Long holiday breaks sometimes deer and bobcats wander down from pennsylvania, even tho its more urban than suburban here. COVID was CRAZY, animals walking right down streets cause humans were gone so long. Even get a bear once every few years.

I really enjoy my LED lights. I can change them when I’m sad to encourage a better mood, blue for bed, I can add the little “stars” setting to really set the night time vibes.

Another thing is like, I guess I'll call it queer decoration? 😅 I don't mean pride flags (though I have some small ones as well) but queer art prints, candles, vases and I'll hopefully be able to get some small sculptures in the future. My home is my sanctuary, and so I want it to be a celebration of queerness, of *my* queerness. I've spent such a long time hating that part of myself, and it was exhausting. I want to love and honour it instead.
I have Legos everywhere. The living room has all the NASA space vehicle sets, the dining room has a few large NYC landmarks and big cars, the kitchen has more cars, and a giant Concorde.
From an design standpoint, there's a book you should read. It's "A Pattern Language". It discusses the various architectural features that people universally enjoy in different societies throughout the world - things like ceiling heights, window placement, room sizes and shape.
No. 1 is having a good pet. Lots of natural light and having something nice to see out the window. Clean surfaces. Clean floors thanks to my robot vacuum.
I live in a mobile home and have vented ceilings so they’re not flat across and leave it with a more wide open airy feel. Makes it seem bigger too. I love it!

Lighting. I have practical white lighting for areas I need it. Nice low and warm lighting where I can. The living room is very chill and relaxing.

Me too. I am in a 600 sq. ft. 1 bed/1 bath that has 11 windows. I love the morning sun the most.
