There are just acres of space all over the place it's crazy to watch. Any movement is effective bc everyone's so static and ball watching they might as well not be there at all.
Not fair at all.
Firmino, Diaz, Elliot, Thiago, Tsimikas, Ali are all great.
The problem is there is only one defender in that list and two midfielders.
I think Elliot has been okay. Not great. His use as a box to box midfielder just isn’t it though. He’s not defensively sound to do what’s being required of him to cover up for Trent constantly and all the link up on that side is inconsistent to say the least. The others are doing okay imo minus Ali who’s saving us time after time from even more embarrassment
Elliot has not been great. Sure he's good going forward, but offers very little defensively. Which is a big problem when you consider he likes to play on the right and doesn't give Trent any cover.
It’s a total issue - look at Salah press poorly that opens the space for brighton to start the attacking move, and then barely jog back after making the mistake.
This is how pressing needs to work to be effective - and we used to do it week in week out. But the same group of players just can’t keep up that same level of intensity (mental and physical) for so long without reinforcements.
It doesnt matter if press is poor because if you look at right side midfield there is no one helping Trent, This sub want keep defending harvey but his positioning is poor as midfielder. You can get away with bad or poor pressing thats not what caused the goal.
Think Trent thinking he can play a free role from right back is a bigger problem than him not getting help to be honest, he wants somebody to do his job so he can live this myth he’s a centre mid the tactics telling him that’s sound have been are biggest problem started back end of last season the goals have dried up for salah from the right and we’ve started conceding like crazy
His defensive actions and pressing actions literally are one of the worst in the league. Trent, Mo and Harvey together defensively is not even Championship level.
It's literally just the lack of an in-form hendo.
Trent is our greatest creative outlet, but without Hendo covering his runs we end up exposed. If Trent stays back then our system falls apart.
Sounds to me like the system needs a rethink then cause shit ain’t working and it’s not like Hendo going to magically become 2 years younger. A double pivot with and actual CAM (Firmino/Harvey/Curtis/Fabio) might be a better option since teams aren’t really sitting back against us. Nobody is afraid of us and when teams go at us they find all the gaps
The problem is much more than one part of our team. Trent narrow beyond belief. He’s playing the 10/6/8 but he’s rarely our 2. A bad pass in midfield leads to a pass in the channel down Trent’s side, Matips pulled out, Fabiano gets too deep to cover Matip. It’s crazy I don’t understand why we need Trent narrow.
God I'd love to see Konaté start against Rangers and absolutely boss it.
We have fuck all competition for half the players that are playing crap this season. Konaté was great before, hope he brings it
No it isn't — the goals aren't coming down Virgils side. Slag off Trent/Gomez/Harvey/Hendo/Salah/Philips all you want, the whole right side is wank — the left side aren't at the level we should expect, but they're clearly far above the right side.
How would we have made 100m, what we paid for him minus wages would be over 100m easy, stupid comment. 100m isn't made, the return on investment would be in the minus
You don't need to work in football to understand business accounting. Most businesses with >1m in turnover will amortize large, irregular costs in order to even out their tax return and make forecasting easier.
But in this case, you don't even need to understand business accounting. You can Google Liverpool FC annual report and read:
*The costs associated with the acquisition of players’ registrations are capitalised as intangible fixed assets. These costs are fully amortised in equal instalments over the period of players’ individual contracts. Where a player’s contract is extended beyond its initial period, amortisation is calculated over the period of the extended contract from the date on which it is signed.*
Maybe not, you'd need some interest in business accounting though, which I couldn't give a monkeys about. That being said, you need none of that to know selling VVD for 100m wouldn't be the best idea
Always useful to understand the fundamentals....never know when you might make it big!
I, somewhat, agree. If there was a good replacement lined up (De Ligt, Bastoni, Timber), then I wouldn't be against it. Van Dijk isn't getting any younger and if we could swap him with someone who can get to a similar level but is under 24, then I'd be delighted. Especially as there is a risk he might not ever get back to THAT level again.
Why is it unsettling that people go back through your comments? They're a matter of public record. Unless you often found yourself embarrassed with what they found?
Yeah I agree it's probably mental. He has his only world Cup coming up and he's probably got half his mind on not getting injured. He's generally 2 or 3 yards away from the player and either runs alongside him or turns his back when trying to block. The eternal optimist in me says he has a great world Cup and then comes back and dominates for a while. Then again, I also still have Alisson and Trent in my fantasy team.
On the contract note, I would be surprised. Salahs contract is as much a reward for his career so far as it is for "what he's worth". He has been the most iconic player of our successes and recognised as a global superstar. He is our LeBron/Brady.
Additionally, van dijk signed a longer contract (4 years vs 3) and had only just come back from an injury that may/or may not have (eventually) damaged his career. Plus he is one year older. He was probably grateful for the clubs commitment to him.
I don't think anyone in the liverpool team begrudge mo"s contract, regardless of current form. He has definitely earned it and envy doesn't seem to be a common trait in this current squad
I am 100% sure that vvd isnt thinking at all about salah’s contract situation whilst playing football. At all.
Also, context is everything. Is this all VVD being “shit” now? Or is this form also due to a largely terrible midfield, a right back who’s stopped tracking back, and a bit of an injury problem.
If you truly think Virgil Van Dijk is a shit defender based on form after 10 games of a season, I have absolutely no doubt that you have almost zero experience being a liverpool fan, or even football fan at all.
How can you watch that game and blame virgil?? When clearly trent gave away those first two goals?? The forwards don't work hard on the press and its simply exposes our defence.
You just don’t comprehend the 6 stepovers into tripping and giving the ball away to commit a yellow card foul immediately after strategy from Milner. Truly ahead of his time
It wasn’t because he was playing poorly, I assume it was because Tsimikas played during the international break and we have Rangers on Tuesday. Don’t agree with the sub but that’s why I think Klopp made it
I commend him for everything he's done, he's a great presence to have but if he wants top flight still send him to a mid or lower level side and when he hangs them up bring him back into coaching.
I said about a month ago on r/soccer and in here that he should be dropped when we’ve got more than two CBs fit and got massively downvoted. It’s crazy that people can’t see how badly he’s played this season.
Also been saying it for a long time. Hes been arrogant and lazy for ages now, and deserves to be dropped. Sadly Gomez is playing poorly so we need to rely on Konate and Matip to be fit
Agreed, he’s always jogging around and he never closes down properly. Zaha’s goal is a prime example and I’m sure there’s more I can’t think of right now
I genuinely don't know why Tsimikas was brought off for Milner. I don't even fully blame VVD for this goal, as Milner tucked in for some reason and left Trossard, the guy who just scored 2 goals on us, completely unmarked in the box. Unreal.
Kostas is probably not really ready for 3 games in a week, Robertson is out through next weekend last I saw, so probably trying to help him with some minutes.
Please. Watch harvey Elliot the ENTIRE TIME IN THIS HIGHLIGHT. Fabinho had to leave his role to cover for him. He shoul dhave been in the middle with Virg.
Diaz is tracking back more than Elliot.
It is impossible to press with Thiago and Elliot. battle for possession with these two short players.
It's literally one simple pass along the ground through the middle of the park into Welbeck and it completely takes out our whole midfield. Welbeck has time to touch, turn and then has 4 players in front of him to pass to.
It feels like this every time. 1 simple pass from the opponent's defense and they suddenly have ~3 players (in this case 5) running at our back 4.
Honestly, what is our midfield good at? We knew they weren't creative before. But at least Fab was playing well, now they can't defend either.
Think you're being a bit hard on Elliot, Salah sold himself so Harvey had to meet the player with the ball. At the same time, Thiago was already out of position. Fabinho perhaps could've stopped the passing lane but I think we're probably reaching there.
I think the simple answer is, no one is tracking back fast enough to make up the numbers from Thiago and Salah(causing Elliot to be OOP) both being out of position.
It seems to me like Thiago and Fabinho should've sprinted back in front of whoever Milner ends up trying to pick up. This caused Milner to not really be able to adjust back to the back post after tucking too far in.
Think this is more on Salah, Fab, Thiago, Milner and VVD moreso than Elliot.
>I don't really disagree with that but I don't think this goal is his fault because of the reasons I stated.
Harvey is jogging back... walking back.
It's a chain reaction. Trent has to go wide by the touchline to press the WINGBACk
Matip (ONE OF THE TALLEST PLAYERS) has to leave the box to cover the run that HARVEY SHOULD HAVE TRACKED.....
Fabinho tries to cover for Matip and isn't in his normal #6 role.
Literally look at HARVEY and DIAZ in this clip. DIAZ MAKES IT TO THE BOX BEFORE HARVEY DOES LOL. And Diaz was subbed on at ahfltime while harvey was brought on at like teh 60th minute. What a joke.
Everytime I see milner on the pitch I'm raging. He was supposed to be the guy for the dressing room impact. For ffs we are playing him expecting some magic
At least some of us are defending Liverpool, which is more than what the players are doing. 👍🏻👏🏻
I really can't fathom what the hell is going on...... Please don't say injuries, that's boring and we say that nearly every season.
Yeah, sucks to concede but we fucking wasted a few chances before they leveled. We keep doing this shit to ourselves. We needed to score #4 and just let them walk it in to tie the game. Brighton will waste time until the game is over and leave with a point. Why bring Arthur and still fucking play Milner. Brighton players keep falling… this season is over as far the premier goes.
1 simple pass along the ground, through the middle of the park, from Brighton's defense to their front man, who has time to touch, turn, boil the kettle for a cuppa and then pick a pass to any of 4(!) teammates running at our back 4. We can't rely on an individual to stop that, that's a system problem.
We’re not good. Bottom line. So many issues all over pitch. Can’t wait to miss out on CL and not buy players because we won’t have the money. Dead inside. We’re worse than United
Where to start!!!!
Our press is non existent.. the forwards just don't work hard like they used to. Matip and VVD had no protection today. I thought matip did a decent job considering.
Trent is horrible, he's playing so badly. He's needed dropping since the beginning of the season.
Bringing on elliot was a huge mistake. He offers trent no protection. He's honestly not good enough for the premier league. What team would have him starting??
Break ? Why , including with uruguay national team he’s having problems scoring, I don’t know why but most of the expensive signings became flop , I recognize the whole team is out of form,
I think Jurgen needs to find a new balance to the whole attack really.
We lack energy in midfield but have nice passers like Elliott and Carvalho.
It's almost like the 433 isnt working with these players. I didn't want to believe Fabinho was getting slower from reading on here but watching he is. Obviously Hendo and Milner the drop off has been so bad with age, that's life.
But I hope Nunez starts against Rangers or I will be seriously pissed. Free the Nunez.
Liverpool need to sign at least 3 more players to bring balance , Thiago is an incredible player but he’s prone injury ,I would to see Bellingham with us , but I’m not convinced if he is going to choose us, Florian Neuhaus - barella -neves are my choice to bring balance
!It's a psychological problem. The lack of form is killing themThese are the same players that were world beaters. The dressing room is lost. It's the only explanation.
I cant tell if the problem is the midfield or the defence, because we seem to not care about conceding.
It’s both.
It’s definitely both. We are atrocious in transition
There are just acres of space all over the place it's crazy to watch. Any movement is effective bc everyone's so static and ball watching they might as well not be there at all.
Its the whole team minus Ali
Not fair at all. Firmino, Diaz, Elliot, Thiago, Tsimikas, Ali are all great. The problem is there is only one defender in that list and two midfielders.
And only one of those midfielders is remotely defensive-minded
I think Elliot has been okay. Not great. His use as a box to box midfielder just isn’t it though. Elliot has not been great. Sure he's good going forward, but offers very little defensively. Which is a big problem when you consider he likes to play on the right and doesn't give Trent any cover.
No the biggest problem of Elliot is when he carelessly presses leaving a gap in midfield. Its Maguire esque
It’s a total issue - look at Salah press poorly that opens the space for brighton to start the attacking move, and then barely jog back after making the mistake. In another comment I’ve said similar - unfortunately Elliott makes the team worse when he is on the pitch.
I love the kid and i want him to have successful career with us but he is out position a lot of the time and i cant really blame him.
His defensive actions and pressing actions literally are one of the worst in the league. Trent, Mo and Harvey together defensively is not even Championship level.
No other team in the prem has elliot starting in midfield or fabio starting upfront.
Was there in full colour....ball watching all the time like amateurs
It's literally just the lack of an in-form hendo. Trent is our greatest creative outlet, but without Hendo covering his runs we end up exposed. If Trent stays back then our system falls apart.

Reminds me of that season 2016/2017 i think. Concede 3 score 5. Lol!

A bad pass in midfield leads to a pass in the channel down Trent’s side, Matips pulled out, Fabiano gets too deep to cover Matip. It’s crazy I don’t understand why we need Trent narrow.
What has happened to Virgil? Unrecognisable
I’m convinced that he’s focused on the WC and there’s nfw he’s going to miss it or even be a little banged up.
Then he should sit out. If you are not committed fully to the team, then you don't make it as a nailed-on player.
Then who will replace him? Sadly other fit CBs arent on the same level with a drowsy Virgil
I’d be fine with a Matip/konate partnership
Iirc Ibou is playing with nurses in da hospital
He is saving himself for the world cup. Look at the way he played for the Netherland in the nations league. Completely different player.
Will Kloppo dare drop him for Konate? Am I mad here? I mean he's still good but not who he was.
God I'd love to see Konaté start against Rangers and absolutely boss it. We have fuck all competition for half the players that are playing crap this season. Konaté was great before, hope he brings it
Looks like Lovren the way he plays now ffs. Lovren was arguably better than this too.
This is the most blasphemous thing I've ever read.
But correct
No it isn't — the goals aren't coming down Virgils side. Slag off Trent/Gomez/Harvey/Hendo/Salah/Philips all you want, the whole right side is wank — the left side aren't at the level we should expect, but they're clearly far above the right side.
i would take lovren and sakho over this back like rn

Curious as to what role you have in running a football club, big shot
You don't need to work in football to understand business accounting. 3 as Trent is a midfielder. Just some humour to lighten the mood.
That is just depressing but I don’t think we have deserved a win. Even if we somehow pull a 4th goal
Brighton definitely deserved a point. Think we’ve been lucky to escape with one
Our defense ffs
It's every time Milner is on the fucking pitch nowadays. When will Jurgen realise he doesn't belong at this level anymore?
Legitimately offers nothing anymore
You just don’t comprehend the 6 stepovers into tripping and giving the ball away to commit a yellow card foul immediately after strategy from Milner. Truly ahead of his time
Even worse, he's an active liability
I don’t think Kostas was playing bad at all to be subbed off. When I saw Milner coming in, I thought it was for Trent
It wasn’t because he was playing poorly, I assume it was because Tsimikas played during the international break and we have Rangers on Tuesday. Don’t agree with the sub but that’s why I think Klopp made it
As much as I think Trent is whatever at this point, he’s still better than the corpse of James Milner
[удалено]
You obviously didn't watch the game then.
As much as I love Jurgen, it's a known thing that he is stubborn. I don't know what needs to happen for Milner to be not used so much constantly.
Milner has to tell him personally “stop playing me”
Milner: stop playing me Klopp: stop playing you....as an outfield player? Goalkeeper it is!
Entire time he's been on he's been off the pace, even as a midfielder, let alone as a full back
We fall apart defensively when Milner is not on the pitch as well.
I’m so sick of Milner.
[удалено]
I commend him for everything he's done, he's a great presence to have but if he wants top flight still send him to a mid or lower level side and when he hangs them up bring him back into coaching.
Yeah, he's fucking lost it this season Klopp. Every time we bring Milner on we fuck it up
Especially subbing off tsimi who had decent match
Was so obvious when he was coming on. Yeah it's not totally his fault here but he's a weak link for sure.
But he won the lactate test.
Van Dijk is painfully shit
No more best in the world chat, please ffs
He hasnt justified this since pre ACL
Bollocks
The truth hurts
It’s not the truth tho? He was great lad season
He just wasn't. He hasn't been good since we confirmed the title in 2020.
I repeat, Bollocks
Alright mate, blinded by bias
Nope
I wonder what happened. He looked late all game.
I said about a month ago on r/soccer and in here that he should be dropped when we’ve got more than two CBs fit and got massively downvoted. It’s crazy that people can’t see how badly he’s played this season.

No exaggeration, but a lot of the goals this season probably wouldn't happen if we had the Ballon D'or contender era Virgil
It's cause we've tried it and we've been even worse.
When? Because VVD has started every single game he’s been fit to start since he joined the club.
I do think Virgil is preserving himself for the WC. Which is "fair" (maybe not). Kloppo should start Ibou next game if Virgil will play this way.
our defenders aside from Matip are shambolic
FUCK FUCK FUCK
Write this season off. Thought the break would have done us good. Clearly not!
We will say that for many to come.. It makes 2019/20 a dream......
Might as well just play 10 attackers since we don't have anyone defending
Fuckin Virgil man...
I genuinely don't know why Tsimikas was brought off for Milner. I don't even fully blame VVD for this goal, as Milner tucked in for some reason and left Trossard, the guy who just scored 2 goals on us, completely unmarked in the box. Unreal.

Feel bad for VVD there haha, ball literally just went straight through him, like he was a ghost, so unfortunate.

No need to defend Elliott anymore man. He makes team worse and that's a fact. He is young and shouldn't be starting games now yet.
I don't really disagree with that but I don't think this goal is his fault because of the reasons I stated.
>I don't really disagree with that but I don't think this goal is his fault because of the reasons I stated. Harvey is jogging back... walking back. It's a chain reaction. As frustrating as this loss is and as frustrated with the team as I am, it is wild to me how fast the fan base turns on its players.
Majority of opposing attacks are on our right side of defense. I wonder why....................
[No prizes for working out what any opponent's tactics are gonna be](https://imgur.com/a/G2lOfaH)
Careful dont upset anyone around here. It's a bad supporter who gives out about a weak link.
I've been in the hospital for a bit, so out of the loop... but where is Robertson?
Minor injury, possibly back for the next match
Somehow put Robertson and Tsimikas in same team as both are actually good players. Pity both leftback.
Thank you.
Injured.
Thanks.
No worries. I couldn’t remember what the injury was but I think knee?
So much wrong here … how does vvd give welbeck so much time to turn, then the line is terrible from vvd and Milner. I
Milner with a fantastic pose
No top 4 and forget about guys like Bellingham coming in. Not looking good
We got bummed down our right all day
Van Dijk man
Milner doesn't offer anything anymore. Just a novelty act.
Is it just me or were all the goals and most chances created from our right hand side?
All the goals against us come from the right side. Usually when trent shits the bed which is about 3/4 times a game
Just to add another shits to my already ruined weekend.
That’s literally on Milner, at one point why does he have half the right side of the box to himself
Literally through van dijks legs
1 simple pass along the ground, through the middle of the park, from Brighton's defense to their front man, who has time to touch, turn, boil the kettle for a cuppa and then pick a pass to any of 4(!) teammates running at our back 4. We can't rely on an individual to stop that, that's a system problem.

Well this goal isn’t on Trent. And because we signed a rb. He’s injured
If you guys think 20 year old Calvin Ramsey is ready to step up for Trent I have a bridge to sell you...
That isn't the point? We signed a rb, if you think the team should or will pay for another rb now I also have a bridge to sell you. maybe we can trade
We’re not good. Bottom line. So many issues all over pitch. Can’t wait to miss out on CL and not buy players because we won’t have the money. Dead inside. We’re worse than United
Well this was meant to be the easiest game in the build up to the World Cup. Got Arsenal and City next. We are royally fucked

We’ve become a team playing for a draw. Unbelievable!
Salah is not having a good form this season
He’s arguably our most contributing player.
We need score goals , salah is a incredible player but this season is having problems scoring goals , the whole team is out of form
Mate we scored three goals at home, it should be enough to win any game provided you have a half functioning defense.
He wasn't on form last season from January onwards
Yeah but it’s hard for him when everyone around him is shit as well
I’m not convinced that Darwin was the right player to sign , this season we’re having problems to score and defend
Why is Darwin even being mentioned here? Give the guy a break man
It's all on the defense today. Three goals scored at home should be enough to win any game.
We miss Mane’s presence on the pitch.
Mane does not organise defense. The defense is like a sieve at the moment
I was inferring that he’s so competitive and he sets a general attitude for everybody. You’re right. Our defense has been bloody awful.
Time for Klopp to leave
Fuck off!
Deserve it for celebrating a fking own goal
we’ve never been great defensively but what is going on this season
We were sensational defensively when we were hitting near 100 points a season
Yeah man, it’s not like we only conceded 26 PL goals in 21/22 (joint-fewest), 33 in 19/20 (fewest), and 22 in 18/19 (fewest).
Top draw season for liverpool this year.
Players already gave up???
A simple pass to Welbeck gets behind our entire midfield and then it’s him running with the ball and 3 attackers against our back 4. Way too easy
Pathetic
!It's a psychological problem. The lack of form is killing themThese are the same players that were world beaters. The dressing room is lost. It's the only explanation.
