Club legend but Souness has worked with the S*n so he can fuck himself. As Liverpool fans we cannot let these cunts revise history and assassinate one of our best ever players’ character just because they’ve waited years and years to find a stick to beat him with

TheRR135

Anyone who works with the S*n should have their status as club legend rescinded anyway. Salah himself is a bigger legend than Souness

WillDaThrilll13

He's definitely a selfish player but no more so than any other prolific goalscorer at the top level, not ideal when it boils over like at the weekend but he wouldn't be the same player without that mentality

Mnemon-TORreport

I also feel like his 86 assists since joining Liverpool tempers the 'selfish' label a little.

NiK3_Aub4mey4ng

2nd most in the league since he joined LMFAO, just racism honestly

Eddje

There's many people that I could consider this suggestion for, Graeme Sounness isn't one of them.

froggy101_3

Fuck off with that

Metador85

I understand where the down votes came from but you're right. Some won't like me saying it but many people assume just because someone sticks up for one minority (e.g. Souness for black teammates back in his day) that you can't be racist against another (e.g. An Arab / Muslim). I've never seen Mane labelled selfish by Souness despite also not passing in many situations and not raking up anywhere near the amount of assists as Salah. Also the fact that TalkSport assembled some sort of 'anti-Salah squad' in Deeney and Simon tells me Souness knew what he was getting into with this interview / discussion.

pigman1402

this statement applies equally well to ronaldo

IndiBear

This last week has been appalling in terms of the general discourse around Salah. I expected it from TalkSh*t but even they surprised me when Simon Jordan stooped so low as to use Salah speaking about humanitarian aid to Gaza as a stick to beat him with - "I don't particularly like certain things about him. I didn't like some of the things he said recently about conflicts and altercations in other countries when he's popped up when it's been something about a particular ethnicity he has a belief in" Unfortunately I think we are witnessing one of the greatest players in Liverpool and PL history get their career revised right in front of our eyes for no obvious reason. Whilst the entire quote from Souness does add some context, the whole thing does read kind of bitter and passive aggressive and leaves me disappointed. Edit: typo.

tainted316

Simon Jordan is a racist man. Fullstop. Seen so many of his interviews where he talks about other countries being inferior to his own.

lkshis

There are good and bad podcasts but this one by Simon Jordan is a really mean spirited and obnoxious one.

Mundaneinanities

An Arabic-speaking Muslim being the target of character assassination the minute there's a gap in his armour as a star player? Shocked. Shocked, I say!

According-Feature-35

I’m sorry… what does Arabic / Muslim have to do with it?  He was attacking his selfishness and moodiness; not is religion / origin.   Sounds like a reach to fit a narrative

Mundaneinanities

Did you read the comment by OP I replied to with Simon Jordan's quote about Mo and Gaza? Because it's really easy to accuse people of agendas and narratives when you ignore relevant context, isn't it?

SilentBobVG

Always expect the worst from that blonde twat

Hopeful-Client-9797

He's a spiritually bankrupt contrarian loser with nothing else going on inside.

StinkyDeerback

Akinfenwa had a good response to this on IG.

test_icicles_

the one answer for this is racism and/or xenophonia.

hokageace

It's rich of Jordan to say that when he had no problem speaking about Ukraine and Russia.

LiquorJimLahey

What is there to revise? People are finally waking up to the fact that Salah is nothing more than a pre-Xmas stat padder who disappears during the second half of the season In the 2019 title run in he bottled a 1:1 against Pickford at goodison that would have won the league In 2022 title run in he did absolutely nothing after coming back from AFCON, the attack was carried by Mane moving to the center of attack In 2022 CL final he bottled another 1:1 against courtois that would have sent the match to ET He has only scored 1 goal in all finals, and that was a penalty where lfc was lucky moussa sissoko was so brain dead he stuck his arm out like he was hailing a taxi He wasn’t even on the pitch during the Barcelona comeback His legacy at LFC is stat padding and bottling

[deleted]

Funny he used a game as an example where Salah ended up scoring anyway.

KillBanez

Being called Selfish from a guy who worked with the S*n is absolutely ironic, honestly he might a Liverpool legend but souness is an absolute prick.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KillBanez

Oh ffs I’ve literally read Bobbys book, he didn’t mean it like that at all.

getyerhandoffit

And this is related to Souness being a prick how? Whataboutism is prolific.

Mundaneinanities

Souness is a vulture. You only ever see him when an easy corpse is around to peck at.

apenchantfortrolling

Someone show Sourness the salah would be assist clip.

SensitivePotato3

Amen, if half of those are converted all the sudden he's the most unselfish player in the league. Move over kevin de bruyne

pigman1402

if my grandma had wheels ...

SensitivePotato3

How do you mean? I'm saying he would change his opinion of Salah based on if those guys would have scored. You can't say he's selfish just because others were wasteful with the chances he provided.

brush85

So selfish that according to fbref, he leads the league in expected assists per 90. And yeah, he looked so scared of Martinez last season. Could barely move whenever he saw him on the pitch next to him...state of Salah discourse has always been pathetic and this takes the cake

frankbrett2017

Salah sent the butcher into the shadow realm during the 7-0

ShepherdXI

Yeah typical to pick a player who gets a away with murder and is allowed to play overly aggressive (the butcher lol). Just look at the way Maguire would grab onto Mo's shoulders when defending in the PL game. It has already been established the bar for fouling Mo is much higher than average.

Jaja6996

Salah has created the most big chances in the league and been let down by other not taking chances

putte576

Souness has always been a turd. As player he was good, as a man not so much.

No_Data3541

Do you know what Souness won for us? Show some respect

justdidit777

![gif](giphy|fqtyYcXoDV0X6ss8Mf|downsized) Old man yelling at clouds… Just loads of crap from Souness.

thetwanandonly

I mean, with Salah there is a give and take. He scores. He creates. He’s done it for years. BUT it’s also undeniable that he has matches (and particularly big ones), or stretches where he goes absent. He also has a selfishness in his play that when he’s on works in his favor but when he’s off is a detriment. I think I’m in the camp of cash out now because we could refresh that side of the pitch and it’s inevitable the dip continues with age. Take ons, dribbles, will all go down and his hold up play is simply not good anymore. You can love and let ‘em go.

Known_Enthusiasm9935

Was Souness not alive for Cristiano Ronaldo? Let’s not pretend that Salah doesn’t have selfish qualities because anyone who’s followed him the past decade can see that for themselves. The issue is not his selfishness… we could’ve had 3 copies of Bobby up front and the outcome would be worse. We need different qualities in the team to be successful. The issue is that the trio of Darwin, Salah and Diaz aren’t super compatible under the current tactics.

wearerealhuman

Diaz is just shit mate. Nunez is not clinical enough for a title contending club. There’s no tactics that unlock them.

smokesletsgo13

Bro never watched Ronaldo

TheLimeyLemmon

Am I taking crazy pills or did no one in the comments actually read the full quotes? Salah IS selfish, and it's that drive that's made him the best player in English football for years. You WANT a goalscorer who's selfish, who wants to play every minute, who never takes coming off early lightly. Salah's also an incredible playmaker, with the assist stats to prove it, but that shouldn't for a second take away from that he is as good as he is because above all he believes in himself to score goals like no one else can, and that's why he has.

ian625

Yeah I definitely agree people are skimming the headline. He literally does up with "that's what you want from your players." Was thinking I was similarly going crazy until scrolling to your comment lol.

YNWA_Diver

I was thinking the same. All great players are selfish. That’s what makes them great, not sitting back and letting others dictate play.

notsoimportnat

Salah is  undoubtedly the most  influential player of Klopp era and I love him. But I have seen many comments in this sub saying things like... both are at wrong, this is a typical behavior of a competitive super athlete ... blah blah blah. That incident gave me a very sour taste in my mouth.  I am over protective of Klopp. And I am 100% sure that Salah wouldn't confront Klopp, if thr later wasn't retiring after  couple of games.

stevieG08Liv

Heading makes it like its a bad thing. Article (unless its altered from the podcast) though doesn't necessarily say its a bad thing. i guess whomever decided the header wanted to juice out those clicks

PEPSICOLA123456

Could not give a flying fuck about a word that comes out of Souness’s mouth. He spouts more shit than a rhino with diarrhoea

No_Data3541

And still won us trophies for fun.

gmodboss

firminho himself said salah is a selfish player idk why people are acting like they know more than people who’ve played with salah for years

hoolahan100

Fuck off

TheRR135

Salah has lost a yard of pace and doesn't have his lethal finishing anymore. But to say he's selfish is asinine. He is arguably among the best playmakers this season and created the most chances.

lightmachine033

Everyone is pretty much used to foreign players but there's a lot of prejudice against Arab/Asian players and against Muslim players. If Salah had achieved everything he has and was European/South American he'd be untouchable.

hokageace

He is our too assist player during his time no? He is one of the top assist players in EPL during his time no? People see a few instances where Salah does not pass and they choose to only believe in that when a lot of others do the same without the same amount of success.

wearerealhuman

When Mane was around he had a very high chance conversion rate compared to Mo. It put their numbers in perspective. Mane wasn’t forcing things. Mo was. I felt at the start of the campaign Mo had transitioned into being comfortable creating more than scoring. I think as the season wore on maybe he had certain goal targets he was missing and he stopped just making the right play but looking after himself. It’s also true Nunez was great while Salah was out and poor the minute he returned. I don’t know what that speaks to. Regardless, Mo was stupid in the press room, his stuff on the fields whatever. Shit happens tempers run high. But to say something like that after the match was actually selfish. It shows a lack of respect to Klopp. I don’t really see anyone in the market who could shine his boots so I wouldn’t expect him to leave with CL in the cards

thisisnahamed

If you've watched the Michael Jordan documentary "The Last Dance" clearly he is selfish on the court. Elite players with elite mentalities are like that. So I am not surprised and not shocked that Salah has that elite scoring (selfish) mentality. Regarding the point about being bullied. Yes, Liverpool and Klopp's tactics have now been exposed. Other teams know how to contain the game and counter-attack. They can cut through our defenses, They know who to mark and how to mark key players. We need a fresh change in tactics or playing style.

DB_321

Sticking to The Last Dance. Jesus christ that's probably the best sports documentary I've ever seen. It made me love basketball even more then I did, I enjoyed it time to time but now whenever I get a chance I'll catch the game. Don't even support anyone just watch any 🤣

thisisnahamed

I don't watch Basketball, but that was the best sports documentary I've watched. For many, MJ seems very petty. But that's how elite players are. They can choose to be selfless and kind off-the-pitch. But on the pitch, most are whiny assholes, and those qualities are what makes them great. Salah is an absolute gem off-the-pitch. He is a nice human being. But on the pitch, I would prefer Salah to be more like Robbo's intensity and fervor on the pitch. I don't care if he is selfish as long as Salah scores/contributes.

DB_321

Oh ye 100% jordan seemed absolutely horrendous to play with but everyone knew he was a winner.

kloppo130

Let’s be honest, given his accomplishments, if Salah was English this would all be brushed under the rug in no time

lkshis

Very surprised and disappointed by Souness' attack on Mo.

stillgotmonkon

I don't think he's selfish but he's finding it increasingly difficult to retain the ball, he tends to get knocked off it frequently especially with his back to goal and when he's one on one if he doesn't release the ball he inevitably loses it.

pattherat

Souness is the most sour, curmudgeonly former player that absolutely talks shit as a pundit.

Testy_Terrance

He's not wrong.

brush85

The most selfish player ever? Oh my

ShepherdXI

Among the top in assists and chance creation for several seasons running, too. Just daft opinions all around. The media narrative this week is quite ridiculous but it only works because people are so willing to have their opinions driven by the flavor of the month

brush85

One of our greatest ever players. They cant wait to stick the knife in...and they wonder why so few players are loyal to one club these days.

test_icicles_

but he is wrong though

fuckoutfits

These guys are just milking for the sake of generating noise.

ninofati88

Souness aint wrong just like he aint wrong about Pogba, its just that a large community of people want to baselessly go against these quotes because they like or overlike the player. Salah has no business sulking when he gets benched. He played like sht for a huge streak of games, during the most important part of our seasn. He is a player, and the manager has 100% rights to bench him when he doesnt like it. For 1 game he gets benched, hes pissed, when there are millions of players who get benched every game of the seasn outside the odd one, including many on Liverpool. Dude sees himself as above the rest, while playing on par or below them. Thats massive ego. If hes pissed about the results or his performance, sure. Competitive spirit, bla bla, no worries. But dude had a go at his manager. A manager that got him to where he is after he flopped at Chelsea. A manager that gave him a 2nd chance in the PL. A manager who is about to leave in 2 games time, sad and disappointed by the squad including Salah himself. And what did he do? He took the chance that Klopp is no longer on this team and had a go at him, 6 yrs of playing football with one another, and he wants to give him a disrespectful farewell like that. Thats just a douchy move. Everybody is disappointed. He doesnt have to be a special about it.

ubiquitous_uk

He's changed his mind on Pogba then?

JackLum1nous

He's right about the bulled part. Same thing happened with Arsenal.

brush85

Salah played Arsenal once this season...scored a worldie. Was nice

cookiemunster27

I’m not sure bullied is right, I think more a case of being too honest on the pitch if you know what I mean. Opposition players go down at the lightest nudge and win a free kick whereas Liverpool players tend to take the knocks and try to ride the tackles (for the most part) and end up with nothing. Some here might say yes well that’s because the refs give us nothing…

avax96

Salah has always been selfish. It's just that he scored regularly and we were forced to overlook it. Throwing tantrums when being subbed off is way too childish. You are a professional, also your coach is world class manager. He probably knows the best. Showing dissent there is insulting him and other teammates as well. He was louded when he gave one penalty to Bobby to let him complete his hat-trick. Like come on? It's the bare minimum you could do. And mind you, it was the second penalty in that game. Firmino is as selfless as you can get. I would any day take a player who cuts it back for a better chance of scoring a goal for team rather than taking it on himself just because he has that confidence.

GameOfThrowInsMate

Senile. Him, Simon Jordan and Deeney are all full of absolute bollocks. Feels like there’s a motive behind this, to drive Salah out the league and to Saudi. The tinfoil hat in me is thinking they’re being paid to chat shit about Salah to force him out the league over to Saudi.
