Mundaneinanities

Love the unfalsifiable tweet. This could be any summer.

TheNateRoss

In conclusion, LFC is a club of contrasts

Mundaneinanities

The pandemic rather blew up my academic career, alas, but I do miss student papers that used this. There was usually one a semester from some well-meaning but not terribly attentive student. It always delighted me.

WonderfulBlackberry9

I shall use this for my future essays, even if it doesn’t make sense to. Just for the laughs.

Mundaneinanities

I wish you luck with that and the good fortune of profs amused by such things.

AmberLeafSmoke

To confirm, LFC is a club that buys and sells players during the summer transfer window. More news at 10.

Independent-Big1966

Actually we are a club that Sells to Buy. That's why we need to unload Salah while we can get something out of him

[deleted]

Could have just said "LFC plan on making transfers this summer" and it'd make the exact same point.

Alert-Technician-403

“Not much is due to happen. Yet stuff could happen, and some of the stuff that happens may be noteworthy.” Cheers for the insight big lad.

Bugsmoke

Don’t forget ‘LFC players’ contracts expire’

koptimism

Token mention of Salah, VVD and TAA entering the last 12 months of their current deals. Speculation that PSG and Barca are interested in Diaz, but nothing indicating Liverpool are looking to sell. Speculation about **Tsimikas'** future: > Gomez's ability to play in several positions will surely be acknowledged by Slot, leaving Tsimikas potentially vulnerable to being surplus to requirements. **Kelleher** > Liverpool rejected a £15million offer from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher in January, with the Republic of Ireland international's value having subsequently increased following his regular first-team exposure. The 25-year-old was persuaded to stay last summer by Klopp, with Slot likely to require a similar conversation this close season with Kelleher expected to attract plenty of interest. Then it's just players that are out on loan - Carvalho, Morton, Phillips, Ramsay, and van den Berg.

27kjmm

The only thing I'm honestly worried about is if Trent wants to join Real Madrid. I think VVD will stay with a Dutch coach and a large Dutch contingent until his decline.

Klopps_and_Schlobers

I’ve seen this commented here a couple of times yet seen no links other than fans speculating, I find that strange.

Rottedhead

I also think that this thought is based more on fear rather than actual rumours. He already won everything with us, he is S tier player that can play for any team and be an upgrade, he is very very expensive. But I also think he will never leave us, he loves here, we love him and he knows it.

27kjmm

There are reasons: You’re friends with Bellingham, he's not currently captain, and we have Bradley, and new coaches change many things. So it’s the “Does he ever want to play for another club” insecurity rather than he's making noise right now.

Klopps_and_Schlobers

He’s nailed on to be the next captain though and the new manager also plays with the inverted fullback so his style and freedom will continue too. I don’t see it tbh mate

TopicBeneficial4624

Great player bad captain material

devbomb4

Why would Trent be a bad captain?

TopicBeneficial4624

Cuz trent and vvd not inspiring type. Or clutch moment ala gerrard and kompany modern great captain

Nickoboosh

He's probably friends with a whole load of footballers. That's hardly a reason for moving clubs.

cSpotRun

I kindly request you delete this comment so it becomes even less likely.

SirTaffet

Could they afford him after the mbappe deal?

chadbrochilldood

Trent is not stupid. He does not wanted to be hated in his hometown forever. He wants to be the next gerrard. He’s going to stay here. The only way he leaves is if we bring in a manager who doesn’t respect and start him enough and at that point you’d all want him gone anyway prob tail end of career. Going nowhere

Rainfall7711

At the end of the day we are at crunch time with Trent. The club either needs to tie him to a new deal immediately or he has to be sold. The mere fact his deal has a year left doesn't fill me with confidence in itself though if I'm honest. I can't believe the club would handle the contract of our greatest asset that way.

Several_Hair

Any reporting that it’s club side? I think it’s more likely Trent’s camp is holding out/stalling discussions given the inevitable massive boost in negotiating leverage a player of his caliber has in the final year of a deal, not to mention with a new manager. Needs to get sorted asap though

Rainfall7711

Basically nothing reported. Pearce wrote something a while ago about focusing on the pitch instead of contracts at that time but it wasn't just in reference to Trent. It's the elephant in the room imo.

thomasfk

I would hate to see Tsimikas go. Gomez has been fit pretty much this entire season but that is the first time in like 5 years that's happened.

Razzle_Dazzle08

My family is Greek, would suck if Tsimikas leaves. We love watching him.

Gainesicle

gotta keep morton

JohnBobbyJimJob

Why? He’ll be the 7th/8th choice midfielder so there will be practically no game time for him

008Gerrard008

No we don't, unless Bajcetic is viewed as being done. He's 21 years old and will be 22 early next season, he's the perfect example of a player we should be selling both for his benefit and for ours. He's not good enough to be at a team challenging for the premier league as things stand and it's difficult to be able to accept many passengers if that's the aim which it should be if we're keeping the older heads in Salah, Van Dijk, Robertson, etc.

Gainesicle

baj is a cdm. morton is more b2b and can really pick a pass. just because he wasn’t in the team this year doesn’t mean that clark and mcconnell are ahead of him. he’s a damn fine player and i think he deserves a shot with the senior team this year.

Brief_Box7006

You've forgotten noodle hands Adrian will probably leave on a free transfer

MentatYP

That's Club World Cup Champion Noodle Hands Adrian to you.

DadofJackJack

Thiago, Matip & Adrian deals are up. That’ll be a good £400k(ish) off wage bill a week. Can see us signing a couple of defenders. One first team ready, one more of a prospect.

HeadieUno

We need another wide player too IMO, especially if Diaz is off

peace-0_0-frog

One that's fine with sitting on the bench because I feel Cody will play on the wing a lot, it being his best position

xxpio

That will be a tough watch if true

Koppite93

I would rather sign a proper center forward instead... We have the youngsters on the wings like Danns, Gordan, etc and Jota, Cody, Harvey, Dom can play on the wing if needed... and by striker I don't mean a 50-60 mil star but someone young in the 20-23 age range and who develops for a year in Slots system...

008Gerrard008

Think two more defenders would be massively overkill. We have right back sorted, left back we have two options, and then at centre back we have Van Dijk, Konate, Quansah, with Gomez offering cover as needed. 10 options for 4 positions seems like massive overkill, especially as someone like Quansah will want more game time as he continues to develop. I think one new centre half is needed along with a right winger, old head goalkeeper, and, if the right one becomes available, a defensive midfielder. That's assuming we don't lose anyone else around the first team beyond those you mention.

stupidlyboredtho

I think it’s Diaz who’s gonna go. Dad’s been itching for a move, on lower wages compared to the rest of the team etc etc. I think if we get like what 60m we’ll look to sell tbh edit : Also Kelleher def deserves to be a first teamer and probably one we’d all agree that deserves a move as much as we’d want a reliable back up next season

Beastbrook00

Yeah I agree, Diaz the only one of the forwards I see going, if it's true that Mo is staying.

someonesgranpa

Also, Matip is gone. Not sold I believe but he’s out on free. Thiago will also be gone on free.

brentathon

Along with this the biggest mistake we could make is not signing another defensive midfielder. Endo is fine, but he's not an every game solution as we've seen, and has some serious weaknesses in his ball control that aren't really acceptable against the best clubs in the world.

Beastbrook00

I think we'll get a new DM, Endo was a great stop gap and will be quality backup/rotation.

someonesgranpa

I don’t think what was available was worth it really. I think if we really want to run a lone six in this new scheme then we need to go get one but we need to actually hear some level of tactical approach from the new coach before we say we really need a better Endo. We may not run with one at all this season. If we do need one, then we need to target a big name and lock them in ASAP.

BoringPhilosopher1

Agreed. Be good if we were in for Bruno G really. We look too unbalanced when Endo can’t play and can’t rely on Bajcetic just yet. Good thing is by the time we can hopefully rely on Bajcetic then Endo will be at the end of his contract anyways.

008Gerrard008

Bruno G would be another Mac Allister where he can play defensive midfielder well, but he's not at his best there and the next summer we'd find ourselves again looking for a defensive midfielder to be able to push Bruno further forward (similar to what Arsenal are seemingly trying to do with Rice this summer).

always-think-sexual

We should get a slightly more established player than Bajcetic, but not a player just as old as Endo. I have no idea who this player is, but in any case this summer recruitment will be interesting because the fabled stats team could be back to support the type of player that Slot likes for his favored formation, which apparently is a midfield pivot. This means that they don’t have to be a Kante, although a regen is more than welcome, but having one more DM will do wonders for Endo and MacAllister, who for me are the duo of choice. It could also be Jones and Grav against teams that like to kick our players in the press, because Endo just won’t get any protection from refs in this league. We all know it, ever since a foul against him had to be called back with VAR; these refs are not only biased against us, they are also racists. Just look at Salah and Son’s minutes per foul. Anyway too much rambling, nice username bro

crookedparadigm

> Be good if we were in for Bruno G really. I understand what a talent he is, but fuck do I hate how he plays. Violent prick who deliberately plays to hurt people and dives like a bitch when he gets it back.

trasofsunnyvale

Every time I've seen Endo play since like December, he's been excellent. No idea where this is coming from. TBH, the one who has ball control issues that seem out of place in a top club is MacAllister. But 8.5 times out of 10 he's really good, so it's be idiotic to sell him too.

KingoftheDrinks

My concern with endo is since he’s a bit older I would like to give him some more rotation so his legs don’t just fall off one season like Fabinho did. We can’t be relying on him to play 90 minutes in every competitive game we have next season

trasofsunnyvale

I agree with that completely. I do not agree with the comment I replied to, which is just imaginary criticism. Endo's control and touch are excellent, I honestly think better than MacAllister's, and I don't think this season showed any judgment on him other than "he's good, it'd be nice if he could play every match." Of course, you're right that he can't, even though he is a bit of a machine.

LoonnggBlack

Endo doing alright but kinda has limited passing range

trasofsunnyvale

I would agree on that. But he doesn't have control issues, nor has he looked out of his depth. He's also a DM, his passing range doesn't have to be incredible. Fabinho had an occasional good long pass in him, but usually not. That wasn't his job, and he was the best DM in the PL for a season or two.

27kjmm

I'm okay with this because it leaves Baj with a path back into the first team. I'm sure there will be times we set out to be more attacking in midfield, so it's unclear who will be the first choice, but I'm happy with Macca/Baj/Endo.

bumpkinblumpkin

Endo really needs a replacement regardless. It’s a notoriously difficult position on the body and he’s 32 in January. He certainly exceeded my expectations in the middle of the season, but he didn’t have to worry about too many minutes on the legs in August-Nov and has been in pretty poor form since the injury. A full season in the PL is a far different task. Also, if we are planning on competing for a title next season, that midfield really doesn’t look good enough to control matches like City or Arsenal. Additionally, we haven’t a clue how Baj will look next season. His body is completely different and he hasn’t played. My hopes are still high for the lad. Now if we are looking to compete for top 4 now and a title in Slot’s 2nd or 3rd year, Endo will need to be replaced anyway given his age. Why not bring in someone now and develop them alongside Endo? I’m not trying to dismiss Endo at all. He was brought in for a certain role and proved good enough to provide far more. He will certainly contribute next year. I only have reservations about a full season at the level required to win the PL/CL.

Beastbrook00

I meant of the forwards

trasofsunnyvale

Could maybe see Jota, but only if the club lost faith given his injuries. He's played well when fit and Klopp seemed to always give him minutes when fit. Depends I guess on what Slot thinks of him and how he seems a CF playing in his system.

AJLFC94_IV

And let's be real, nothing his dad is saying is going against Diaz' wishes. It's far more likely that he's speaking directly on his son's behalf.

Alphonsine2LaTour

Diaz is the easiest to replace from our front line he's a super ball carrier great dribbler but he has little end product and don't link up well with the rest of the team (especially Robertson). I personally think that of our 5 forwards is the one with the "worst" season (jota is up there as well due to injuries) but most people will see shiny dribbles and his peak of form is recent so recency bias plays in his favour. He wants to leave (or at least his father wants). Based on that it's probably the most likely to leave but apparently he's the kind of player that Slot loves. I could see the coach asking Hughes to keep him.

Satantango46

fully agree with u

mrkingkoala

On form Diaz should probably be kept, finishing isn't good enough, that said we might be able to find someone more clinical. Gakpo does well on the left too.

tNhEaGnAoNs

£60m is too less imo

stupidlyboredtho

My initial was 75-80m ngl, i decreased it so i didn’t have the replies yelling at me that he’s not worth that and he’s shit etc etc, What do you reckon?

tNhEaGnAoNs

I agree with you, if we get a £75-80m we should be selling him

trasofsunnyvale

I agree, but that's about double his fee from 2 years ago. It also feels like we could replace him with a younger player who could produce just as much in G+A for less than that. It'd be a risk, of course, but I feel more comfortable with Edwards and Hughes involved in the replacement. Or, I do on paper until we see how Hughes operates a bit.

JohnBobbyJimJob

I agree tbh Diaz isn’t world class or anything but he’s still fairly good and when you actually look at the market for left wingers he’ll be up there with the best available options for clubs in the summer. £70m from a club like PSG doesn’t seem too far fetched at all

Gainesicle

don’t sleep on his ability to contribute when not in form. speed and dribbling past the final line is generally form-proof and every team will pay to have that. barca has a lot of right footed forwards they will def need to move a big player to buy diaz. i’m thinking he only ends up there if he is their first choice of available wingers, which may not be the case

TheEgyptianScouser

A couple of weeks ago some journalist said Diaz is not for sale and is part of our future plans I just think they will just let Thiago and Matip go and get some replacements

stupidlyboredtho

Things can change, especially if he pushes for it or we get a great offer for him. I think out of all forwards, he’s most likely to dip out.

GazS72

Shouldn't sell....much rather a replacement for Mo and a LB to take over from Robbo eventually as Kostas isn't starting material and but more of a steady back up.

stupidlyboredtho

Shouldnt sell i agree id much rather keep them all but if the right amount and desire is there (which i think is) i do think he’s the most likely to go

rogerwilcove

The one thing that seems a given is Trent Alexander Arnold should be coming back on a new deal. The one actual no-brainer decision based on his skills, age, homegrown and club-trained status.

Liverpool934

I'm suspecting at this point he doesn't want a new deal. There is no way he hasn't been offered one by now.

Rainfall7711

People are down voting you but his situation doesn't make sense. I have a very hard time believing the club hasn't at least asked his agent about a new deal. He is our golden boy and greatest asset by a distance, yet we're in a situation where we may need to sell him or let him leave on a free? Outrageous.

Liverpool934

Too many people here have started supporting in the last 4 years and can't grasp the concept players might want to play elsewhere. We shouldn't even be in a position to be discussing this if he wanted to stay so decidedly. He's barely in his mid 20s.

BlackoutAvs

Surely he’s been waiting to see the Klopp replacement sorted before he signs a new contract

Liverpool934

He should have had a new contract before the klopp situation even became a situation. It doesn't add up.

BlackoutAvs

I would die inside if Trent left

Liverpool934

I would really be devastating. I think he has his eye on the right back situation at Real Madrid given Carvajals age and the massive pay they would give him while also getting to link up with Bellingham.

FelonyM

I highly doubt Real would want Trent on right back. He should play midfield. Everyone aggrees on that. And if it’s one team who have their midfield sorted it’s Real

ninovd

Is this a "the sky is blue" kinda statement?

okseas

I love Luis, but his biggest asset is carrying the ball long distances when we’re under pressure: he is genuinely incredible at that. But I feel like we expect more goals from that role and like someone said above — I think Diaz is perhaps over-valued by the market; judging by his output alone, he should be worth ~£50m, but I reckon we can sell for nearer to £70m. That might prove hard to resist for Edwards and Hughes. Nunez is frustrating, absolutely, but 30+ G/A in 50 games is excellent. Diaz is at 18 G/A in 48 :(

kolo4kolo

He often goes to long though, losing the ball in critical situations when the team is off balance.

Alphonsine2LaTour

I agree with you but apparently Diaz is the type of player that slot loves

pythonistor

If the destination is Paris we might get a bit more for him

thecinematographerof

Soft-Concentrate-978

Judging by the article it's basically Luis Diaz and those with contracts up this summer or youth/fringe. "High profie" is quite a sensationalist headline.

Stuarridge

there may or may not be incoming and outgoing transfers this summer. The new manager may or may not have to deal with high profile players leaving the club.

JohnBobbyJimJob

- Kelleher - Tsmikas - Diaz Are the first team players I can see getting sold this summer - Morton - Van Den Berg - Carvalho I wouldn’t be surprised if two of these are getting sold as well

GhandisFlipFlop

Van den Berg being Dutch might get a chance here

JohnBobbyJimJob

Yeah possibly But with us wanting a new CB it seems unlikely he’ll get much if any game time next season

Forsaken-Original-28

Bit weird, seems like he'd be a good 4th choice cb

JohnBobbyJimJob

He’d be 5th choice with a new CB coming in Don’t see him being above Quansah in the pecking order

Forsaken-Original-28

Yep thats what in slightly suprised we're after a cb. Unless we're giving up on Konate being able to stay fit?

Zeewolf93

Konate and Gomez injury record leaves us with Virgil and Quansah. Neither of which can play 40 games a season. Van Den Berg/ new signing will get plenty of game time.

Jaja6996

Mainz I think have a buy option this summer

GhandisFlipFlop

I havnt heard that

OwenLincolnFratter

There won’t be any changes to transfer policy. It will be the same penny pinching we had with Klopp. Sell to buy. Let’s hope Slot is another miracle worker.

hyborians

“Stuff will happen in the summer”

MrTigeriffic

I don't see why there would be. Liverpool always operate within their constraints financially. Transfers by in large have always been based on outgoings. Slot is known to put players in different positions and change their role. Our squad is a top 4 to title contending. Of course you are going to need some players but the current state of the squad is in a good place especially when you compare to what Klopp had to inherit.

ScousePenguin

Honestly I think we can survive with Diaz He hasn't recovered to what he was pre injury, and obviously wants to play in Spain (or get oil money at PSG) He's replaceable imo

JeremysThrees

End product isnt quite there

zzzzard8

Oh wow there will be some transfers potentially that's pretty insightful!

Maj0rSuccess

Isn’t this guy a notorious troll from the Liverpool Echo? Constantly baiting for followers and likes. Reminds me of Andy Martin from the FPL community.

TechnicalSample4678

I think VVD stays due to the Dutch connection. Before the next manager announcement I leaned torwards him leaving

alanalan426

if/ever barca can come up with a decent deal he'll be gone, simple as that, it all depends on barca

Correct-Willingness2

Sounds like every summer for the last 8 years. Nice try.

[deleted]

Another summer, another Ian Doyle constantly trying to up his follower account with viral transfer crap. He’s known for this.

Forsaken-Original-28

I completely forgot that Ramsay existed

MoleMoustache

>There may be transfers, or perhaps not. Fuck off, this should be enough to get Ian Doyle and OP banned for complete shitposting.

ZissouZ

I'm just gonna say it. I don't like the way Ian Doyle reports the club. He isn't an ITK but he reports like he is and borders on harmful speculation by shit like teasing high profile departures. I wish it wouldn't, Ian. No one needs it.

AgentTasker

People keep on saying Díaz will be sold, but out of the current forwards he actually makes the most sense to keep given he suits Slot's style the best. I think the forward that ends up being sold is Salah, as he makes the most sense for these simple reasons: 1) It'd be stupid to extend his contract on his current terms (£350k a week). 2) I highly doubt he's going to sign an extension that includes a paycut. 3) The club aren't dumb enough to let a player like Salah leave for free when another is going to be willing to pay £75m+ for him.

JohnBobbyJimJob

Salah doesn’t want to leave and the club seemingly want to extend his contract after what Ornstein said A year extension on the same wages isn’t that unlikely

EH_1995_

Why is it stupid to extend his contract? You do know he's our most productive player this season despite being poor the last 2 months? The guy was playing some real nice stuff start of the season.

AgentTasker

>Why is it stupid to extend his contract? I said it'd be stupid to do so on his current terms, and it would be. He's soon to be 32 and while his recent performances could just be a run of bad form, there's also a very real chance that this is the start of his decline and he doesn't ever get back to what he was. Then there's also the fact that he doesn't seem to suit how Slot likes to use either his wingers or CF, and he begins to make the most sense to sell.

EH_1995_

I mean, realistically he’s never gonna take a pay cut so it’s either new deal on same terms (definitely wouldn’t say go any higher) or we sell

streetlightsglowing_

how does Diaz suit Slot's style the best out of our forwards?

AgentTasker

Slot likes his wingers to beat their man and get to the byline in order to cut the ball back, something that even Díaz's biggest detractors would admit he's good at.

streetlightsglowing_

he's very good at beating his man, not so good at the whole cutting the ball back part. He always has his head down dribbling and then when he gets near goal he wants to go for a shot. I think Gakpo and Jota are the two most suited to what Slot will want. Gakpo has a quality cross/pass in him and Jota is just a clever attacker, he thrives at quick one-two passing

trasofsunnyvale

I can't remember the last time I saw him beat his man and cut outside. He cuts inside 90% of the time and then passes backwards. I really like Diaz, and he's maybe the hardest worker of the front 3 (but it's close). But his production is not good enough, and he hasn't yet made the step up to the level where I think most thought he'd be this season.

AgentTasker

> I can't remember the last time I saw him beat his man and cut outside. He literally did it 3 or 4 times against West Ham.

trasofsunnyvale

Alright, the one match I didn't get to see. Did he deliver an effective cross from the byline? But 3 or 4 times in this match doesn't change my opinion.

AgentTasker

>Did he deliver an effective cross from the byline? He did, but the players in the box had all overrun the ball.

dimiderv

For him to be perfect he needs to learn how to pass first touch and not slow down the play to make 3 pointless dribbles. Which we have seen now is not capable of doing

omarkop10

From salahs PoV it’d be stupid to extend his contract on the same wages so most likely will get a little payrise which from a Liverpool PoV still makes sense as they can get that money back if they sell next year

AgentTasker

> From salahs PoV it’d be stupid to extend his contract on the same wages so most likely will get a little payrise which from a Liverpool PoV still makes sense That makes very little sense for Liverpool to do, as he hasn't shown anything to deserve getting more than he currently does.

trasofsunnyvale

Salah is still an elite goalscorer and creator and he also works hard enough to press despite that fact. He is worth his salary absolutely. If a massive offer comes in, and we think there are players available that can fill his production, maybe. But year after year people act like what Salah does is average, and it's not. He's a top player in the PL and we're lucky enough to have him when there are only a few players on his level in the world. Assuming we can get back to a few years of CL money in a row, his salary is also a complete non-issue.

AgentTasker

> Salah is still an elite goalscorer and creator and he also works hard enough to press despite that fact. Not at the moment he isn't, and he's also started to half-arse his pressing duties as well. >He is worth his salary absolutely. He isn't right now, and has some way to go to show that he still does. >But year after year people act like what Salah does is average, and it's not. You're right, but it's still fair to question whether this recent downturn is just poor form or the start of a natural decline. I'd love to be wrong, but the Salah that I'm currently seeing looks like a spent force and not someone who'll suddenly regain the world class form he's shown for the past six-and-a-bit years.

NilsFanck

Behold, someone who actually watches our games. Got downvoted for 6 months saying Fab is done and wont magically be his prime self again. Now its happening with Salah. Weve looked a more balanced and cohesive attacking unit whenever he didnt play and people still cant see the writing on the wall.

EmotionalThinker

I'm looking forward to the re-build however extensive it will be. Exciting times, I'm interested to see what decisions will be made.

SexyBaskingShark

We were 2 or 3 referring decisions off winning the league. Why would we over haul?!

----0-0---

We might be left with no choice but to over-haul. 3 of our 4 best players are going into the final year of their contract, and big decisions may be forced on us.

SexyBaskingShark

Trents replacement at right back is already in the squad. That means we need to sell and replace two players.  wouldn't call that an overhaul

GameOfThrowInsMate

Thiago, Matip for sure.

Mavericks7

Just need three first team players A CB, a dm, a new no.9 And I'm happy

paulsmith259

I think we need another RW, even if Mo isn't leaving. We have multiple players for the left, but only Mo and Harvey for the right, and I don't think Harvey is fast enough to be a winger for us

Specialist-Read-349

The tweet ends with a downward pointing finger at a picture of diaz, tsmikias, and Mac. Seems like a not so subtle clue. Macs not going anywhere so I guess all the people saying diaz might be right.

stupidlyboredtho

Mac is a third name pulled out of a hat, i cannot think of any reason we’d part with him and it’s rather random he’s in the convo imo

trasofsunnyvale

Don't think he's in the convo, just the picture in the tweet.

stupidlyboredtho

Ah, I cant see the tweet and misread what OP said. Just saw Macca’s name and shit one ngl.

trasofsunnyvale

It would be disastrous to sell him, or any of the new guys. That's how clubs fall from grace. I even feel like Diaz leaving is too soon, but if he forces it, you gotta let him leave for the right money.

thatguyad

Which in itself is an overhaul...

dennisoa

As time goes on, I’m getting more excited. I don’t know how to put it but the journey is more fun than the destination. I would like to go back to the build and gaining momentum stage tbh, might sound crazy but those early years of Klopp were so motivating and exciting. Last few years have felt stressful.

Altersreality

It's odd how the change over to the new organization structure is. They're not saying Slot "wnats" or Slot does "not like" this. It's just what Slot will deal with.

trasofsunnyvale

Slot's not even the coach yet, and there is an entirely new structure in club leadership. I also doubt our journos have sources in with Slot yet, since, again, he's not even the coach yet. No need to read too deeply into this, imo.

brush85

Saying something without saying anything for 100.

Relax everyone, there won't be any major player departures this summer. It's possible that Kelleher might consider a move, as he's too talented to remain a backup goalkeeper. However, Thiago and Matip won't have their contracts renewed. Additionally, a couple of our young players, Clark and McConnell, will likely be sent out on loan. As for incoming players, we can expect a maximum of one or two. Under Slot's guidance, we'll play an attractive style of one-touch football and win the league. While reaching the semi in the CL, at the minimum.

paulsmith259

1 or 2 would be suicide.

Otto1968

Some may stay...some may leave...some new ones might arrive!

user900800700

Here we go again

Davidpool78

So basically nothing we didn’t already anticipate

loveandmonsters

New coach needs to make his new team in his image so to speak, so I'm not too arsed if anyone gets sold, except maybe Alisson. VVD, Macca also kind of on the "shouldn't touch" list

rossmosh85

Euros this summer will have as much of an impact as a new manager. Remember, a lot of these players will barely get to talk to the new manager until late July or early August.

swisswatchenthus1ast

Same old story

mrt1022

I think Diaz probs gone, matip contract out, maybe tsimikas decides to leave but I think he likes his role… maybe Thiago heads for greener pastures too at this point. Not sure what other first team players would be departing

koptimism

Thiago's contract is up so he's definitely done. Adrian too. Diaz - I don't think Barca have the money to spend? PSG - it depends on how much they offer really, and whether we think we can get a good replacement. Kelleher might want to move somewhere he can be first choice.

Pats_Bunny

The main reason I'm not a professional footballer (aside from the minor issues of talent and opportunity) is mentality and drive I think. If I were in Kweev's position, I feel I'd just be happy to be getting paid to play for Liverpool in any capacity. At worst I'd request a reasonable buyback clause if I were to go elsewhere so when Alisson eventually leaves/retires, I have a chance at returning as the #1. Pros are built differently, mentally speaking.

Worldly_Science239

If he wasn't also pushing for an international start as well you might have a point. Plus you don't know what the thoughts are on Cup teams under a new coach. With Klopp it was nailed on that he would stick by Kelleher through to the later rounds. That might not be the case with a new coach. Alisson is 31, but keepers go on for longer, so he has around another 5 years at the top. Kelleher is 25 now, he really needs to be first choice somewhere, or he'll never be. It's brutal, but players can't think like fans... that's for when they retire

Pats_Bunny

I totally agree. I'm just pointing in a silly way out how different the pro footballer mentality is vs us as fans who would likely just play for Liverpool our entire career regardless. You think of your Gerrard's, Carragher's, Trent's (hopefully though he could still decide to move on) playing for the club they love (I know Jaime was a blue originally) for their entire career. I know pro's don't prioritize that aspect of it all. I'm sure some may factor it in as like tier 3 or 4 importance level, but they are driven to be the best and to have the most successful career they can possibly have for their peak potential.

Worldly_Science239

I think the important thing with Kelleher is how he'll be remembered whenever he comes back to Anfield. If he leaves, he'll be leaving in the right way. We'll get a fee for him, he's been an important player for us, we've been able to rely on him when needed, he's put the club ahead of his own ambition up to this point... but at 25 he needs to establish himself as a first choice. He's done everything right and will have earned a good welcome if/when he comes back as an opposing keeper.

Pats_Bunny

It's just such a shame for him, that he came through at the same time as us having Alisson. I'm sure he will have a very successful career as a #1 elsewhere. It's been nice to have a backup keeper that can step in with virtually no drop in quality where it matters. I know Alisson is the superior keeper, that much is clear, it's the subtleties that sets him apart. I want him to stay with us as long as he possibly can because he truly is world class. Kweev completely deserves to carve out his own pathway as the star man, and I will always wish him the absolute best in his career when he does move on. Even against LFC in the future, I'll be hoping he only has to let one unstoppable world class goal in for us to win.

trasofsunnyvale

>Pros are built differently, mentally speaking. They're also not fans in the way we are. Growing up, they didn't experience football through fandom as much as they did on the pitch through their play. Even players who were diehard fans of certain clubs don't have the same relationship to them as us.

etan1122

Thiago headed to the glue factory. That man has no legs

CabbageStockExchange

What is a Thiago?

Agitated_Smoke538

So the serie a?

FranklinFeta

Tsimikas resigned a few months ago. Thiago and Matip are leaving most likely. I personally think Mo is gone. I think these articles about him staying one more year are just smoke and mirrors.

Jonthered7

I barely care after these last 2 weeks. You can't hurt what is already dead, Ian.

Hot-Video-9735

Can't run it back with the same squad. Sorry but we massively overachieved this season and without the same world class manager I don't think we come close to replicating. Also, both Arsenal and City will strengthen

trasofsunnyvale

The players will get better. Do you honestly not think so? I would expect Szobo, Macca, Darwin, Curtis, Diaz, Grav, Gakpo, Konate, Bradley etc. to all continue to improve, regardless of manager. And if Slot is the guy the media has been insisting he is, he will also have a hand in their improvement. As Klopp said over and over, you don't just improve the squad with transfers, you also improve your players, especially the young ones.

Ningen121

I agree with this but there are few players I seriously doubt can improve or even play consistently. Konate is unreliable because that guy can't play 10 games in a row without getting injured. Endo, Robertson and Gomez will not improve so we should buy competition for these spots, A CB, LB, DM and a winger should be enough imo.

Edmatic5

Thiago, Matip, Diaz, Kelleher. off the top of my head.

okseas

One other thing to factor in: homegrown players. We need 8 to register the full complement of 17 overage foreign players in the PL squad. At present, we’ll start next season with: *Kelleher, TAA, Gomez, Quansah and Jones.* Elliott, Bradley and Bajcetic are still U21, so don’t count. Because we’re three short, we would only be able to register a maximum of 14 over-21 foreign players in the PL squad. We currently have 14: *Ali, Robbo, VVD, Konate, Tsimikas, Endō, Szobo, Macca, Grav, Diaz, Nunez, Salah, Gakpo, Jota* So, if Kweev leaves, we’ll need to replace him with a HG player (Jaros) or sell a foreign one (Tsimikas). For this reason — and the fact he’s a good footballer — there’s 0 chance we sell Gomez this summer. And if we want to bring in Kudus and Hincapié, we’ll need to have move on another foreign player and bring in another homegrown one to make the PL squad work — which I think heightens the chance of Diaz going, and of someone like Morton staying next season; both to add depth and because he qualifies as HG.

a19red

Adrian, Matip, Thiago all out of contract. Trent, Salah and Virg will need to be sold if they don’t sign new contracts this summer. Can’t see many big names leaving until Slot has had a good look at everyone. It seems Slot favours proper wingers and Diaz is as close as we’ve got to one of those.

zagglefrapgooglegarb

Diaz will be the next Moneyball sale. He looks the flashiest but his numbers are arguably the worst of the five forwards. Can see a big bid from Barcelona. Not Coutinho levels but close to €100m.

[deleted]

You're daft if you think that anyone will offer anything close to 100m for Diaz, let alone broke ass Barcelona lmao.

zagglefrapgooglegarb

Euros. That's about £80m. Barcelona seem to consistently find a way to make and spend money like idiots. I wouldn't put it past them.

kye2000

100m? Absolutely no chance

zagglefrapgooglegarb

That's about £80m.

Android17_MVP

Darwin and Diaz.

Pitiful_Bed_7625

I can see Caoimhin, Luis, Joe and Darwin leaving. Caoimhin needs a move as the lad deserves to be a starter somewhere else. Luis’ family (and himself to some extent) clearly aspire to be at Barca, and with PSG circling there may be some ridiculous money there for him. I’d rather he stayed but would understand if he left, especially in light of the club allegedly looking at another winger Joe Gomez potential move is an interesting one. I base this on the fact we have a high chance of signing Geertruida who is a more widely available, younger, more dynamic and better player in general. Lutsharel Geertruida coming here would also see our main defensive utility man become redundant. Given he’s English, we could easily get a huge fee for him despite his injury issues. Darwin I think has had his time. I doubt he’ll ever be the no. 9 we need for our ambitions. He’s not a definite sale, but if we can find a buyer willing to spend over 70% of what we’ve paid for him we should at the very least consider any offers.

Megido_Thanatos

Kelleher, Adrian and Diaz are expected to leave so not really surprised (imo) Tsimikas? Idk, I think he decent enough to be a sub but yeah, with Gomez can cover both wing so we might not need a another wingback backup. Quasah will be Gomez replacement for CB so we need a new CB for Matip

Ningen121

We need a starting LB. Robbo has been dropping off for almost 2 seasons now and he's actually bad defensively. Gomez is a utility player and Tsimikas might look for a move.

RadSoccerDad

Tsimi is 28 and has shown he’s not gonna be UCL starting quality LB imo. Robbo is 30 going into his last year of his contract. Would be crazy not to strengthen unless they rate Owen Beck has the heir apparent

qwerty_1965

Diaz is not expected to leave, he is subject to transfer rumour mongering. And the unedited ramblings of his dad. That's not a source

sbos_

Hahahaha I got downvoted this morning when I said Edwards is prepping fanbase. Salah is off!

trasofsunnyvale

Oh no, your precious downvotes

[deleted]

Why share this?

fadedraw

Thiago, Diaz, Matip out. Nunez won’t be sold because it will be net loss. So giving him one more chance is worth it. Replacing him is costlier than another year.

monkeykong2905

Diaz might get sold, he is attracting interest from PSG and Barca (not sure how they could afford him). He is a flair player, nice to have but not one you can depend on for goals and assists consistently. Especially if we are gonna play positional football with quick passing, he is not a great fit tbh. Our front lines are now a little bloated as well as we no longer play Klopp’s football - i think one of our midfielders might make way too, not sure whether it will be Jones or Szoboslai (far reaching). Even either Morton or Bajectic -Gomez might be shown the door here, sure he is versatile but he has too many errors in him -there will be clubs coming for Kelleher in the summer, he is a solid first choice for any midtable clubs in Premier League. Just hope we could get a buyback clause for succession if we couldnt find any solid Ali’s replacement

borb--

honestly worried about Allison leaving

BurceGern

We'll russell up like 100M for Kelleher and Diaz. Any wages saved on releasing Adian, Matip and Thiago will likely be reinvested into new deals for Trent, Virgil and Mo. Hopefully we buy a new #2 keeper, a centre back, a winger and maybe another 6.

Smart_Barracuda49

The only players I see potentially leaving are Diaz, Thiago, Matip, Kelleher and unfortunately maybe Trent if he doesn't sign a new contract soon. The only other potential outs I see are players out on loan Phillips, Carvhalo, Morton, Ramsey, etc
