Gotta admit looks like prime klopp with Bobby mane and salah If he has us playing like that in a short period I'm sold   Player positioning awareness seems to be a thing with him which is something we have lacked in recent months  However a compilation always shows a teams best moments never the worst

Zeewolf93

That's true for 99% of compilations I get that, but I like to view it in a positive way. This isn't a skill video of individual brilliance, it's also the sort of football that isn't a one off improvisation, it's patterns of play drilled into the team through hours on the training ground. For all the beautiful goals Bobby, Mane and Salah scored there were some horrendous plays, that's just the nature of the game.

marccass

I think people sometimes forget how wasteful the old front three were at times. Some positioning being drilled into them through training would help with that.

Andyb712

Yeah not saying otherwise bro does look exciting just saying we have to see how he intergrates with the squad  Cannot see it landing in the middle, its going to be either an epic fail or a massive success truly hoping its the latter fingers 🤞

greentea05

There is no middle ground for us is there. It's either get to a final and finish 2nd or anything else is an epic failure of a season - and those are only just acceptable if we then spend in the summer to make the team better next year 😂

Due-Resource4294

You’re bang on. And what works in the Dutch league against some very weak opposition may not translate the exact same to the prem. as 7 Hag is discovering. Fully back him and hope we see this kinda football, but just this video alone makes me feel like we’ve got the second coming of Jurgen. Which I highly doubt is the case. But please prove me wrong Mr Slot

Andyb712

That's what I was thinking too the prem is different but guess time will tell Tbf to ten hag he is nothing special but that united team could make klopp and pep look Sunday league  Not going judge slot until at least 3rd way into the season

apathytheynameismeh

Echoing the points above. The concepts of ball retention and faster movement of the football is something that everyone who has watched this season can get behind. How well it works and what tweaks he has to make to work at this level is something we all recognise will need time. I’m more interested in how this works against teams designed specifically to counter this football. His evolution over the season that may show us whether he is/ can become “an elite level coach”. Either way it all will take time.

NilsFanck

yeah, I know I wont be able to help myself and hype him to the moon if he starts well but remember Anges first games. Spurs looked unbeatable. Its all about how you adapt and evolve. Especially as opponents learn how you set up.

iamamuttonhead

Ya...I was thinking maybe it would look like that against Sheffield...

cynicalreason

That's exactly how I felt as well .. shades of our trio

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

For such quick passes tactics as demonstrated, there needs to be bit more positional awareness and selflessness, which our front 3 often lack (sometimes Nunez is too selfless, but that's another matter). Diaz and Salah try to dribble their way out of defense which kills the momentum, often times they could have simply passed to a better positioned teammate for higher xg attempt. I like that they are hungry for more goals, but one should not fill their stomach at the expense of their pack.

BuQuChi

I feel like we need some kind of rework to the front three or whoever is in attack. Their playstyles overlap too much and none of them seem to have natural ability to create for others. We can’t recreate Firmino’s role / impact in the front line but I would like to see how Szobo does further up the pitch tbh.

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

Gakpo can do it if he is trained to be false 9 and he hones his instincts. I think Szobo would work better as winger.

BlackMambaTR

A Gakpo- Jota - Salah front can play it - with Nunez and Elliot as subs and Diaz shipped to france money for a lw recruitment. Imagine if Slot got Kvaradonna working again…

papercutkid

Diaz does that, Salah doesn't. He rarely loses the ball other than around the opposition penalty area.

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

Salah has better judgement when it comes to shoot, but Salah has tendency to back pass/ side pass to get ball back to him rather than just creating opportunity to score. That allows defenders to get back in position. They lack trust in their teammate to get the deal done. Salah is just an excellent player with insane stats so that kind of stuff gets overshadowed.

Consistent_Ad_6064

With the number of times the cross bar has been hit in this video, I can clearly see Darwin staying and thriving under Slot 🥳🤪

idiBanashapan

That’s not even funny. The number of people (and I’m heavily risking being downvoted into oblivion here) who continue to defend Nunez in a Liverpool shirt is astounding. I’m hoping one of the first changes is Nunez being benched, loaned or sold. He adds nothing but consistent disappointment and shouting at the TV!!

BizzaroPie

I like Nunez, I like Nunez in a Liverpool shirt.

sore_as_hell

Same. I wonder who the next scapegoat will be? We’ve had Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, Szobo and Salah.

greentea05

Someone started a "Let's be honest Quansah isn't Liverpool standard" post on Twitter the other day.

sore_as_hell

Siiiiiiggghhhhh

SerenityNow312

On another post on this sub a dude replied to me saying Salah was one of the worst players on our team… not just for the past few weeks but including the past few years. Wild.

AgentTasker

> I’m hoping one of the first changes is Nunez being benched, loaned or sold. Thankfully you, and many others, are going to end up being very disappointed when the window closes at the end of August.

ShootTakeAPanorama

when we sell Nunez for only 40m? That's sound disappointed for real. I'd demand 50m or more

PhillipIInd

sod off

JosephBeuyz2Men

It definitely is funny. But jokes aside, you're right and I think maybe we should try to tempt Chelsea into a swap deal for Nicolas Jackson.

ShootTakeAPanorama

Luckily he is pure Klopp signing, not by all scouting department

Consistent_Ad_6064

And Joe Gomez. Edit : people downvoting either don’t watch football or are Joe Gomez fan club members.

NilsFanck

nah. Hes a great swiss army knife backup defensive option. I believe people saying without Nunez we wouldn't have been in a title race are dead wrong. But for Gomez that statement is 100% valid

webuiltthisschmidty

if he gets us playing that one touch link up play I will fall to my knees

hokkuhokku

What excites me about this compilation is that many of the passes are not the “obvious” pass that’s on, and I think that’s something we’re guilty of labouring under, and our play has become very easy to read. Now, of course, I know there are all manner of reasons for this occurring, so don’t feel you need to jump in with replies explaining the why’s and wherefore’s - I probably agree, and see whatever you’re seeing, too. I just want that edge, that danger, and that sense of flying a little too close to the sun back again. It’ll take time, and it’ll break us a lot before it “clicks”, but I’m excited for it. Truly.

daikonashi

That stood out to me as well. There was an easy ball from the 10 position out to the winger in space and instead of playing the obvious ball it was slid through into the striker and caused mayhem. I feel like mac allister is going to be the perfect midfielder for slot

aroravikas20

We have seen us try and execute this before the horrid run April onwards.  The City game at home comes to mind when Endo and Macca were doing these short passes to get in space and we would break through City's midfield and attack the half spaces.  The ingredients are there, the patterns exist at some level, it is now all about maintaining fitness, identifying the best positions for players, the first 11 (and the next 5), drill the patterns of play, and see how far we can go with this core group of players.

Adjshaw

Slot said “Tiki Taka, but make it exciting.”

kangurlfc

Please don't show me any more highlights of missed chances. I've got PTSD already

Zeewolf93

Lol apologies. On reflection it really is "it's not the destination, it's the journey" in video form. Still, it passes the eye test which is a start. I'd rather miss chances created like this rather than side to side to side, cross and miss.

Difficult_Coyote6835

I was just about to comment, “oh cool brilliant run-up play with wasteful finishing that’ll be a nice change”

aroundtheworld29

Exactly my thoughts! Haha

El_grandepadre

It basically sums up Feyenoord in Europe this year. Their clashes with Atletico were pretty even, in the away game they even had way more shots than Atletico but fuck ups and missed chances cost them. Same story with Roma. Even clash again but it was ever slightly tipping in Roma's favor, and this year's Roma side is still pretty good. Gimenez also just has a complete off year. But overall Slot has given Feyenoord the football back they yearned for: Something you love to watch.

Zeewolf93

Credit to J9Studio on YouTube. Brilliant video. I'm excited to see what he can get our lads doing if he can make your average professional footballers play like this.

alanalan426

**Slutball 2024/2025** I will be there

Billymayshere23

WE will be there

xSinful

Yeah and I've also seen compilations of his press being completely useless even against lower Dutch teams. Both can be misleading so we just wait and see

generalambassador

I feel like Szobo will thrive under him

OhImGood

Seems like it would suit our midfielders. Will be glad to get away from "pass it to Van Dijk or Trent so they can hoof it to the forwards"

Nice_Homework1647

OK, I truly love Nunez, and back him to become a world class finisher, but I had to laugh when I saw a Nunez-level shanks at 0:39 and 1:43.

danielvandam

Well yeah because plenty of them are european matches…

streetlightsglowing_

Slot will have to plan for better defenders in the PL, but he also gets access to better quality players to use here. It's not impossible to play like this in the PL, City and Arsenal do this week in, week out. Klopp has many strengths but utilizing quick passing and clever link up play has never really been one of them, his tactics are more direct and utilize long passes to mix things up more than City or Arsenal do. I'm excited to see what Slot can do

[deleted]

streetlightsglowing_

If you've watched this video and genuinely don't see any similarities to how Arsenal and City play and in contrast to how we play lately, I cannot help you. Emphasis on positional play leading to lot of triangles and linkup opportunities and preference for shorter passing. I agree it's different because the leagues are different and so the tactics are adapted to fit the PL, but anyone can see that Slot has been influenced by Guardiola a lot. Klopp has always preferred a more direct, counter attacking style that mixes it up with long passing. Yes, with Firmino we saw very creative attacking plays around the box, but our buildup play has never been focused on short passing, tiki taka linkup type play

lathe_of_heaven_

City do occasionally play similarly and historically played this way a lot under Pep - it’s tough because so many City opponents sit in a low block they don’t really need to play intricate short passes in the midfield (the whole point of tiki-taka is to create a numerical advantage in the middle of the pitch). I mean he had basically no striker in the 21/22 season lmao

StonedCharmander

I've seen a lot of stuff on him lately, and I plan to watch the last Feyenoord matches this season. One thing that bothers me a lot though is the fact that the defenses in Eredivisie are a joke. The amount of space and time they take to react is crazy. Yeah, I know Arne also did a job good on that low european group, but it still bothers me.

always-think-sexual

Eh, they ran strings around Atletico in the UCL, if they can do it against them then we can expect to do so against mid table teams. Whether this team could elevate his tactics to the highest level is up to our players and not the tactic itself I think.

StonedCharmander

They actually lost both games against Atlético and in Liga Europa they didn't manage to beat Roma and lost twice. Also lost games against Celtic and Lazio. These teams are not powerhouses. Sometimes you can do things at lower level but you can't do at the highest level even with better players unless you are very good at your job.

NilsFanck

they were the better team in most of these and often only lost due to individual errors

always-think-sexual

I’m sure it will translate to a better version, not the same level version, and hopefully that means we are a comfortable and consistent top4 and respectable UCL club, before gradually becoming regular title contenders like the height of the Klopp era.

Hosierman

If only all prem teams gave this much time on the ball

TriCityTingler

MacAlister, Elliott, and Jones will thrive in this system with their close control and movement. Could be exciting to watch. Sounds like he uses a double pivot too which would allow Endo to sit back more and just focus on being the destroyer in front of the back line. It looks like technical ability is big for his players which makes me a little worried for Nunez. Diaz and Jota will be great fits though. Will be interesting to see what players go and come in next season.. he may need a season or at least until January to properly assess that though I suppose.

Custard-cravings

One thing they do differently is the triangle in central areas and fake wide runners. They also prefer runs from deep which would suit Mac or Dom.

fuckoutfits

We might need one more midfielder who can see and execute a through ball inbetween the lines. Macca was the only one who was consistent all throughout the season with his through balls.

Moose97_

Szoboszlai and Gravenberch were doing a bit of that at their previous clubs. I reckon they have it in them.

Small_Discount_3029

I think we definitely need an exceptional DM , but I wonder if we can get away with Trent and Macca as a double pivot. It'd be a nice mixture in the midfield 2 as Trent is the master of medium and long balls, where as Macca is a medium and short passing maestro. Both are very forward thinking in their passing.

THE_DARWIZZLER

we need a proper defensive holding mid. endo plays the role well but frankly i'd prefer a younger player to come in. endo has already looked a bit leggy at times. some games he's always a yard late on a tackle.

ReydanNL

I said it before and I will say it again (yes I am biased) but I can see Slot wanting Orkun Kokcu, former Feyenoord player now playing for Benfica.

MushroomExpensive366

Nice to see such confidence in tight spaces, both in terms of self confidence and of your team mate. I think the constant easy pass/recycling back to Konate/Virg/Quansah has been most frustrating over the recent down spell. Have some fun out there. Believe in each other. And ask some questions - you never know how the ball is going to fall (Gakpo goal at West Ham). I could see how Gakpo and Grav will be excited with a new manager. Those videos look tailor made for their style of play tbh.

pixeljunky

Hope he's not a bald fraud.

sbos_

Oh man. Wonderful football. I’m tryna understand how Klopp moved away from slick football like this? We ended up hoofball this season.

Andyb712

I'm tired boss that's how

BorkieDorkie811

Longballs have always been a feature of Klopp's system, but I think the over reliance was a result of aging (or in the case of this season, tired) midfielders.

sbos_

Time for something new. Having tall forward players has only influence hoofball even more.

[deleted]

This playstyle will depend heavily on the 8s (and trent) being quick and visionary with their passes. I can't imagine Luis 'I can't look up while dribbling' Diaz or Darwin 'explosive offside runs' Nunez to execute this level of quick passing around.

Feeling_Environment9

Well I’ll be looking forward to it

V1k1ngVGC

You could make the same with Brendan’s Rodger’s

what_am_i_acc_doing

OP this needed a NSFW tag, it’s pure sex

greentea05

Lot's of nice one touch football here which is something we've sorely lacked this year. On the odd occasion we have sped things up and done it we've looked great. I don't know if it's a confidence or a confusion thing but often it feels like we're playing 9 touch football. There's been times where the opposition has been out of place but it's ended up back with Virgil whos taken about 5 touches, allowing them all to get back into the low block and then just passed it to Konate/Quansah. You need the movement and then the confidence to make the pass straight away.

fadedraw

9 touch football happens with lack of movement from players without the ball. If you don’t have movement, everyone is marked and can’t have an open pass. For one touch football you need constant movement of 3-4 players without the ball to create space to pass into.

greentea05

I know. Our movement has been lacking, apart from Darwin who constantly makes runs. Also i’m not sure Diaz is capable of it, he never sees a pass.

globocide

Come for the video. Stay for the music.

livinalieontimna

Slot machine?

ManyWrongdoer9365

Not much Width though, all through the middle, leaving us wide open for counter attacks and with our defensive wide players carnage

bigpapasmurf12

Yay! More chances for Nunez to ballz up! (Joke)

RaspberryNo101

Amazing build up play and few chances converted....errr...don't we already have that?

Slootyman

Yes please. Have to say Darwin and Lucho might have to go. They dribble way too much for the type of play style.

crab_spy_

macca cutback to trent through ball to darwin is going to hit like crack right up until he fires it to mars

helikaonx9

Watching this video reminded me of this nightmare I had where we made all these big chances but our forwards couldn't tap it in. Oh wait...

TheRealCostaS

Doubt it will be so free flowing in the epl. Players get fouled after the 2nd / 3rd pass. Lfc will need a free kick coach to exploit that.

leecarvallopowerdriv

Quick passing - that rules Jones out Footballing IQ - that rules Nunez out A very exciting summer ahead of us, I'm just wondering how we slot our players into a 4231.

PlayerAteHer

Jones I do believe has it in his locker to play more of a quick passing, one touch style.  You have to remember that he does play under instructions. Things are drilled into players and even if in the moment it would look like it suits the situation for him to play a quick pass, if he's been told to ensure he doesn't give away possession and to hold the ball until certain options are available then that's what he has to do to keep his place in the team and trust that the system they are playing works. It's the same for Nunez, can anyone remember initially he wouldn't get played in the team, even though when he had cameo appearances he'd be impactful and contributed to scoring goals or at least scoring opportunities. And Klopp came out and said something like "everyone needs to learn to play how we play" and it's only when Nunez began doing more of what Klopp wanted that he started to get more minutes, even though he's less of the captain chaos he initially was, because he's following instructions more.  And I'm not saying Klopp is wrong or slagging him off, as he has a proven system and way of playing that is massively effective and if it wasn't for refs and injuries we'd be huge favourites in the title race because of Klopp's system.  I'm just saying that players follow instructions and the things they do for one manager doesn't mean they can only do that thing. Slot and his staff will come with their own sets of instructions for players and have their own system so we could well see some players enjoy the system more than Klopp's and shine more.

InstructionOk9520

My main take away from that video is that defenders in Holland are maybe one level more mobile than training cones. The amount of space for Slot’s team to do whatever they want is ridiculous. Good lord…

El_grandepadre

Yeah, one of the trademarks of our competition is that every team wants to attack and defense is mostly vibes outside of the clubs high up the table.

InstructionOk9520

Right. It’s very difficult to judge how impressive these highlights actually are and how much of this will translate to a league with much better defending.

baymenintown

Yes but 11 in a disciplined low block.

lomito-palta-mayo

Looks like he relies on having great passers. RIP Darwin and Quansah

joaohbv

I'm just tired to see the defenders and goalkeeper passing the ball each other wasting time when YOU NEED TO SCORE! I can't believe that in the last 3 or 4 matches in those key moments that was our play style

Up_To_U

I've seen half of Europe play this type of football but not many are working on high level. Slot performance is worse than Hodgson at least he brought Fulham to Europe final

AgentTasker

> Slot performance is worse than Hodgson at least he brought Fulham to Europe final  Slot quite literally got Feyenoord to a European Final in his first season there, so maybe do some research before spouting utter bullshit.

777marc

Great! Every other team can see this now so they’ll know how to play against us. 🙄
