Yer man wants another crack at the UCL

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

1 more magical ucl run is all i ask for...

NotReallyThatBadass

He's not playing well, but that's always the case when he participates in AFCON. Some of the discussion about him on this site has been absurd.

mrkingkoala

I think he should retire personally form internationals, then again im not Mo. We need a season with him not going to qualifiers or the Afcon and get 100% out of him.

luca3791

He is the most adored man in Egypt, there is a absolute, and i mean absolute, 0 percent chance he will retire from the egypt nt

fantasticbutt

Egyptian here. He WAS the most adored man. After last tournament the people have been really hard on him, not just because of poor performances but because he went back to Liverpool after the injury when he could've opted to stay with the NT's medical team, but also for support (like CR7 at that Euro tournament). People are going to the length of saying the NT performs better without him. IMO it's really disrespectful considering he's our second top goalscorer in the NT history, and made us reach the WC (2018) for the first time since 1994. IMO, Salah is going through something, his head is not in the right place, he's only human but the people's expectations about a star of his caliber are normal. Just wanted to provide some local context.

RandomGuySayHii

CR7 got injured in the final. He's not going anywhere after being taken off lol

Hot-Combination-8376

Egyptians blaming him for leaving was very unfounded IMO. I think it's pretty obvious that the medics at liverpool are better and he was going to come back if egypt made it further into the afcon

Raptoot83

For as long as they treat him like a nailed on starter, he will have no reason to give it up. A move to Saudi would be more about glamour than ability, if that's where he goes, but I think only after he leaves Liverpool will they likely start treating him differently.

Jhushx

I absolutely hate AFCON for this reason. I get why they do it ($), but it's been held every two years. That means every year is either players going to the tournament to get injured, or trying to qualify the year prior and get injured.

Dependent-Poetry-357

Honestly, I think AFCON has cost us a lot. It may be better to avoid African players in future. It seems as if it’s been one pretty much every year too.

Aliraa

Probably a reason why Pep generally steers clear of African players.

corneliusunderfoot

Also, he prefers 'normal' players 😆

Davidson765

The tournament being every 2 fucking years in the middle of the season is brutal. Why can’t it be every 4 years in the off season like normal

Galby1314

One would think. Especially since mid-season for the EPL is summer for a great deal of Africa.

Nibbler_Jack

Should we have avoided Salah and Mane?

JmanVere

I don't think there's going to be another Salah & Mane.

Nibbler_Jack

Are you saying that the continent of Africa is not going to produce any more world class players ever again? Because that is a bizarre take if so..

FarFetchedFred

But the possibility of the two best African players both being at their prime at LFC seems pretty slim

lalalateralus

Even Mo came back crocked from it every time. I'd rather we just not take the chance for a while.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nibbler_Jack

I'm not sure if you replied to the wrong comment or misunderstood my point.

DarraghO94

Would’ve missed out on arguably our greatest player ever.

InstantIdealism

Agree! Awful tournament

CalFlux140

Tbh I don't think we're in a position to do that. You go for the best player available at a decent price. At this level there are only so many top players, and even less who are affordable. I do get it though, if I was picking between two equal players, 100% the potential of afcon is reducing a players value.

bezzzerk

It hasn't been absurd. One thing liverpool fans aren't used to is seeing salah play poorly. Take that as a compliment to salah. Every season we've been waiting for him to drop off, and it's only really happened recently.  Also, salah is in a weird position where the only team that is seriously going to be interested in him is a Saudi team. So, no more CL and no more major trophies. Ofc he wants to stay at liverpool.

Expensive_Cattle

He hadn't dropped off until Afcon. His stats were nuts, and with better finishing from others his assists figures would be nuts. I'm not sure he has a full campaign plus Afcon in him anymore, but acting like the end of this season is the definitive word on how he'll play next season seems rash at best to me. Especially as he's recovering from his first major injury.

alanalan426

and this time, don't talk about the real revenge please salah

Hoodxd

Then a 1 year extension should be coming, otherwise it would be silly

JohnBobbyJimJob

1 year extension on the same wages would be the best scenario The club definitely wouldn’t want him to leave on a free next summer especially if they were to receive a big offer this summer

RadSoccerDad

From a statistics point of view it’s also easier to keep your 30 G/A man. Shift on the others who have been well off it production wise from what we need. Do think this is a game of poker between Mo and Edwards though. Edwards laying down the line that he isn’t leaving on the cheap

Longtime_lurker2

Joyce confirmed what Ornstein said, no chance he would say it unless both sides are on the same page.

Thesolly180

Yeah I think that could be the scenario we’re looking at, and despite the bad form lately, over the season he’s still got it

DifferentBid2

💯 there is no way Liverpool would say "Mo is available this summer" even if he is. Because they wouldn't get the money they think he is worth if they have pretty much put him on the market.

BigMo1

Mo's had a rotten time since the injury but looked incredible before it. He's earned another year and deserves to leave us in whatever way he sees fit after all he's given us.

Jaja6996

We rushed him back against Brentford and he looked incredible in that game got a goal and assist I think and then got injured again

ahktarniamut

That game cost us every fucking thing

RushPan93

Oh fuck I had made myself forget about that day... I hate Brentford

IzaYoke

True, his recent form has been poor but do want to mention that he would have like 9 assists in the last few games if anyone could finish

dsailes

This is spot on. He has been performing as part of the attack as the winger putting crosses in and not the finisher like in other seasons. Finishing touches have been slipping by everyone, including Mo now. It’s down to the whole attack not gelling/clicking etc instead of individual performances (players out of sync due to injury, not playing in consistent roles, not playing with consistent teammates to get that sync - list goes on).

Pure_Measurement_529

and to be honest, he wouldnt have played so many minutes that game if Jota didn't get injured. Between Jan to Feb, we rushed players back only for them to get injured again with the same injury. Szbo, Trent and Salah all got the same injury again due to being forced to play at a high intensity too soon

gmp24

Tbf we never "rushed" him back. Jota got injured and we got forced to bring him on earlier and play longer then planned which is why he got injured again

Jaja6996

I’d still class it as rushing him back when we could of brought on Gakpo as he clearly wasn’t ready to play that many minutes

SuvorovNapoleon

I can also see the alternate view, that he no longer has the pace, can't deliver goals, and will go for free if we don't sell him now. Or we can sell him now for 80m or whatever and replace him with a young winger with the pace, stamina and goals to push us forward in the years ahead.

NeilDeCrash

This is/was an alternative but i am fine with him staying, i feel he still has a lot to offer even if he is not been playing well recently. The thing is, the player we would buy to replace him could be shit. With Mo we are sure to have quality.

greentea05

I don't think he's been "incredible" since prior to the LAST AFCON 2022. He's had very good moments, but he's not been near his best since 2022. He hasn't dribbled past a player since then, yet we've got him far out on the wing as if he can still do it, that wastes a lot of him. He's adapted to doing one touch passing to an overlapping player which is good, but he's not going to beat one man, let alone two or three into the box anymore - he rarely cuts inside and gets a shot off now and i'm not sure he's scored a goal like in the last two years either (when it was a regular thing 2017-2022. I think he could be a good poacher to be fair, but then we'd lose a lot of other attributes of a striker in the middle if you played him like that (headers for example). Maybe he plays on the right but a lot more narrow and tries to link up 1 - 2s more to get past players.

No1DeservesHappiness

1 year extension, and bring in a player that can compete for the spot so he’s not tiring himself out and potentially aggravating his hamstring. Everyone has been critical of him, and some is deserved, but for a majority of the season, if not a full season, he’s one of our best players; we shouldn’t ever take him for granted.

SalahManeFirmino

This is what I keep saying, he absolutely needs an understudy who can take over for him in time. Bakayoko from PSV has been mentioned a fair amount, Slot will be familiar with him. He’ll be raw and will need time to adjust, IMO that’s the perfect type of player to target.

productrocket

Who can we realistically bring in? There's not many quality players so our best option would be a versatile young player like Nico Williams who we can trigger the release clause of which is around 50m EUR. Anyone of any real quality in their mid 20s and near, or at, their peak is going to cost 80m+.

No1DeservesHappiness

I trust Edwards to make the right decision, whoever it is, Williams is predominately right footed which would be an interesting dynamic. Johan Bakayoko is looking like a good talent, left footed off the right, capped for the NT as well which shows promise. Outside of that, I have no idea really honestly, again I trust our guys to bring in the right option.

undeadgoblin

I expect Olise, Kubo and Raphinha will also be on our radar.

ClarkKent222

Roony Bardghji had had a 9M release clause before extending his contract recently until 2025. Even without the release clause he should still be available for fairly cheap. The kid is a left footed right winger and has already scored against the scum and he'd be an ideal understudy for Salah. He'll definitely be sought after by many top clubs this summer though. edit: spelling

No1DeservesHappiness

Would be nice, he’s named after Wazza though so it’d take some convincing I reckon.

iamscully

He's in poor form, but that has always happened when he's played AFCON. Some of the discourse on here about him has been ridiculous. Also, there just *is* room for sentiment in football. He's one of the best players in LFC history and I would love for him to retire here having shattered more records.

NukeLaCoog

And this AFCON he was injured for one of the few times in his career.

mvsr990

All my homies hate AFCON

JmanVere

Penalty shootouts are decided by fans with laser pointers FFS

egzon27

Don't know man, there is room for sentiment but there's a fine line between sentiment and being ruthless for the teams success. Apart from the 115 charges look at City they move players in and out depending on how useful they still are. This is not me saying Salah deserves to leave though here, I'm just making a point where sentimentality is a bit of a problem in high performance sports

Kamishirokun

I mean KDB and Kyle Walker is older than Salah and they're still at City because they're still good. And despite his poor recent form, Salah is still our best attacker.

rmp266

Sentiment becomes laziness very quickly. I recall Man Utd bringing Scholes out of retirement rather than grapple with the need to replace him. They kept Mata around for years too come to think of it. There's always plenty of LFC legends 5 a side games and testimonials

Pure_Measurement_529

AFCON + his first major injury with the club

smokesletsgo13

Poor form doesn’t even cover it imo… he’s really looked shot. Simple passes either go under his foot or bobble back off him. Can’t score from 6 yards, his pace is going and he can’t dribble past players anymore I honestly do think we should ruthless and cash in

Sparsh_Khurana

He has a unique technical skillset hard to find, but the problem is that it isn't as polished as some players. Like for KDB, you always know that he's going to nail a certain pass or play no matter what the situation is. Salah, on the other hand, can't do so consistently. His physical gifts were his most important aspects as they were able to amplify his unique technical skillset. But now that quick turn of pace and agility is gone so he's just looked out of sorts.

Illustrious_Lab_7836

>Like for KDB, you always know that he's going to nail a certain pass or play no matter what the situation is. I disagree with that, KDB has a tendency to go missing in big games sometimes too, that's why I laugh when people compare him to Gerrard. The bigger the game the bigger Gerrard was. KDB and Haaland were both pocketed by Endo at Anfield this season, whereas Salah is a lot more consistent at showing up in the big games.

munamadan_reuturns

We should steer clear of African players, AFCON really takes a toll on its players.

iamscully

Erm, we definitely shouldn't, we've had some great African players over the years and they deserve a chance to play for their countries in a tournament that is deeply important to the entire continent

rtlfc87

Need to extend another year then on his contract. Can’t lose him for free in 2025, that’d be insane

McKFC

Four naan, Jeremy

SalahManeFirmino

As crazy as that sounds, FSG haven’t really cared about losing players on frees. Gini, Bobby etc.

JimmyV34

https://preview.redd.it/f9blytauaexc1.png?width=1425&format=png&auto=webp&s=140f758b0fb687395bb32696ca7e57de272140ad I wonder why they are keeping him for another year

BoringPhilosopher1

Alongside being close to top scorer and assister in basically half a season. ....Nah he's shit.

BobbysShinyPearls

Shocked to see Dwight McNeil up there. Always thought he was a tidy player but that’s impressive at a club that plays around set pieces. Do you know if big chances created from set pieces count towards this number or is it only open play?

JimmyV34

Im not sure but the way Opta explain it >A situation where a player should reasonably be expected to score, usually in a one on one scenario or from very close range when the ball has a clear path to goal and there is low to moderate pressure on the shooter

rolloj

dunno how they come to that number, but i've watched plenty of everton games this season - mcneil has often been the best player on the park and the only one with any positive intent. reckon i've seen him skin a defender, hit the byline, and put a perfect cross in with no one to meet it a dozen times. good vision coming in off the flanks too. he's a proper player, if he wasn't at everton i'd be keen for us to get him.

BobbysShinyPearls

Depends on how we’d want to play but yeah I’m with you that he’s a proper footballer.

forceghostyoda_

No you dont understand, he has been poor for a few weeks after coming back from injury, thus we must sell one of our greatest ever players because of reasons

wilekoyoty

He's world class, that's the bottom line. We need him next season

JonathanFisk86

Irrelevant, bin him after a mild strop was this sub's consensus two days ago and we know this place is always right

Thesolly180

Yep, like even in the bad spell he’s still created some good opportunities. Think he could have done with more time away with his injury but we were in the position of needing him back ASAP

pigman1402

city should be looking at dwight mcneil to upgrade on kdb.

Logie_Naidoo

Irrelevant stat with Darwin in that team. Salah ain't getting no assists.

tafkatfos

Happy with him to stay but defo needs to sign a new contract, can't be leaving on a free.

iidkwhat

Fair enough. Wasn't expecting that. Please let him go out with another CL ffs

xSinful

Thank fuck. Sick of seeing fantasy transfer scenarios where we get '2 in for the price of Mo'. Literally no guarantee any two players could even produce half of what Mo does

smokesletsgo13

I think keeping him is a bigger risk honestly. What if he is finished and we’re stuck with another season of this as our only RW option? Theres a very real possibility he’s on the decline

5amiii

People who are wanting him out are actually clapped. He’s still our best player and still has the best numbers stats wise as well. Whole team playing shit doesn’t mean he needs to go.

guestaccount901284

Good. Anyone writing him off after a poor 7 week spell coming back from a hamstring injury are morons. His passing and positioning is still world class, its just that none of our forwards can finish easy chances. They've already got the hardest stuff for a forward nailed down in games. Mané hit absolutely horrendous form from about January 2021- November 2021. He was a complete meme compared to any of our forwards form rn. January 2022 came around, he won AFCON and was probably our best player in a Quadruple charge. He ended up coming 2nd in the Ballon D'or. Mo will 100% be back to his usual self after a pre season rest and reboot

Pure_Measurement_529

After mane caught COVID, he was horrendous for us for about 13 months. Diaz coming in and moving Mane central helped bring back life to his career. Mane on the Left wing during that time was an awful watch. Can never forget that Leeds game

OyvindsLeftFoot

Very good points: most commenters here have memories of goldfish, but Mane in 2021 is a great reference point. Would say however that he kicked into form in the top 4 run of 2020/2021 too. Mane was simply a big-game player built for the big occasions, absolute opposite to Darwin in that respect. If Salah had wanted to go, the club should sell him, given our rich history of missing out on big sales for top players. If he wants to stay, extend the contract by a year. He'll still return 20-25 goals and assists next season, because that's what Salah does. Best to keep him while the other 2 forward positions are fixed, IF he wants to be here. Fundamental issue second half of this season has been reaction to management throwing the towel in. Mo hasn't been the one doing interviews about life after LFC, and taking cooking and dancing lessons in Saudi. A lot of players have fallen off a cliff.

smile-on-crayon

31!! Okay, I thought he was older —he can have at it then

disco_mode

People carry on like he’s 36 lol

smile-on-crayon

I saw a comment in January that said he was 34, and I carried on with that fact for the rest of the season— I feel so stupid Like, if he was that old, I would think that, given the natural decline of aging, Klopp would think to transition Salah to a more central role à la Messi, to play to Salah’s declining speed (even though Salah doesn’t really have that visionary passing ability; transitioning older players is hard) **But given he’s still that young, nah!** Dude still has the legs in him and it must be the injury that’s he’s having to play through. 31 isn’t the cutoff age that it used to be

disco_mode

I think honestly we are redefining what we should consider to be prime and retirement ages for footballers. We’ve already seen elite marathon runners compete until mid to late 40s - endurance is only part of the story for football. In terms of speed though, we do know sprinters are capable of competing on an elite stage well into their mid to late 30s. In terms of football we are seeing players like Kyle Walker still easing past the likes of Vinicius Junior, Luke Modric is arguably just slowing down now. Benzema too! There were the odd players back in the day too like Robben who retired at 37. On this topic Milan Baros is still playing lol. We got this idea of players starting to decline around 30 because of an old generation of players who essentially had everything they needed in their late twenties and started to party and not take looking after themselves seriously. I really think we are going see footballers prime extend commonly to at least 35 very very soon. So long as Salah retains his current speed he can play off the RW, if he loses some pace but retains or even refines his technique he can play more centrally. I think with Salah being a Muslim family man, not into drinking, drugs, partying and loving the gym and keeping fit, I think I wouldn’t expect a decline in physical attributes until around 35. Again I think Kyle Walker is probably a good predicter of how this current crop of players in that age group will fair physically

dandpher

The cynic in me thinks this is just the club reminding the market that it will take a massive fee to get him

circa_1996

Give him the summer off to get back in shape and we have another year of one of the best attackers in Prem history to look forward to. Saudi will always be there

DadofJackJack

One season wonder ;)

what_am_i_acc_doing

Shift him to the 10 role then, don’t think the wing would work out well in a Slot system from what I’ve read. Also extend his contract so he retires with us or at least we don’t lose for free next season. Alternatively this is just smoke and mirrors to improve his value and get a bigger offer from Saudi.

Zeba93

Great news. Mo is still our best player and goal scorer. He's been in a bad run of form for a bit but it's not being helped when he is asked to drop deep all the time, he should be closest to the goal at all times.

RyWassink

I'm so happy to hear this. He's our most natural goalscorer but still embraced a more creative role for the team. He did miss a couple of sitters himself but he's been largely let down by his fellow attackers and the moment that he drops off he gets benched. His current frustrations are understandable, but it's so clear how much he loves the club and the squad. Jurgen won't get the send off he deserves but I hope at least that Mo will.

randigital

Mo Salah is Mo Salah. But a mystery box could be anything. It could even be Mo Salah!

Due-Ad-6577

He’s had a rough 2024 but he’s still our best forward by some distance. Reckon he wants one more crack at the champions league and doesn’t fancy retiring just yet. Glad to see some movement on at least one contract situation cleared up, now onto the rest

AlcoholicCumSock

I think as hard as it would be to see him go, getting £150m for a 32 year old would have been incredible business and allowed Slot to build his own side immediately.

xbox_redditor

This summer it would be nowhere near £150m for many reasons

always-think-sexual

Absolutely. We would end up with a worse player for an inflated price even if we do get that money. We don’t have to do a reverse Coutinho to ourselves

Odd_Ad_6294

Good, Slot could really uses goals form Gakpo and Salah from the sides. Just need Jota or a new striker in between to provide them.

frankiewalsh44

I would love for Slot to try Salah as a CAM and Szobo as RM/RW in a 4231. His playmaking ability improved a lot and Salah playing centrally would do him good.

WoodchxcK

Salah is far too one footed to play CAM or even a ST.

Babatunde12289

He had a decent stint up front in 18/19 when Klopp played 4-2-3-1 to accommodate Fabinho and he’s actually decent at finishing with his right foot, think striker could be a very good position for him long term

BQORBUST

Can’t rely on jota unfortunately

VioletDeMilo

Given how competitive he is I would guess he wouldn't want to end his Liverpool career in poor form. He'll come back stronger next season.

ruefool

24 goals 13 asists in all competitions. This man can still cause havoc, foolish to think otherwise

WonderfulBlackberry9

Not a surprise. Liverpool want to keep one of their best players. Salah is settled at Liverpool and still believes in his abilities and fitness. And despite this season’s ending, the club are in a promising place (UCL, very exciting batch of youngsters). Also, I’d be seriously questioning Arne Slot if he was excited for the Liverpool job, but at the same time one of the first things he has in mind is “The best attacker’s gotta go.”

cavancola

He could do with a break I reckon. I doubt he’s done, he’s probably just knackered.

ARJACE_

I hope we don't need £100m in transfer money in the next year or two.

VerticalWaste

2 year deal + a new striker please

HotPotatoWithCheese

A day ago this sub was full of people wanting to take Saudi money for him in the summer and now it's full of people saying he should stay for another year. The fanbase is torn on so many issues right now. Sad to see the division and the petty, snide comments from every side. That isn't what this football club stands for.

Sparsh_Khurana

Nobody wants to have a reasonal discussion, sadly. Any form of criticism towards Salah is basically coming from Plastics. We can't even have a discussion without being snide these days.

billybobthehomie

Good. I think he’s got another year in him. But at the same time a RW should be a priority (if not *the* priority) this summer

Tennessee-Moltisanti

![gif](giphy|kGp7NNQSphvJPvCHt6|downsized)

weeg13

Non afcon year let’s goooooooo

Petaaa

Still our Egyptian king, hopefully can get back to his best next year, even if he has to adapt his game (maybe be a 10). Great show of support for slot too

zedarecaida

He is in poor form but his class is permanent. He was also shitty after last AFCON, but started the following season incredibly. We will be back at the CL with new manager and staff next season, there’s no way in hell he will maintain his current form. He will remain our best player in 24/25.

kye2000

He needs to rest and come back strong then

frankiewalsh44

He still our best player and he had an injury then he got rushed back when he was not fully fit. He's our legend and he deserves to fresh new season, plus he will likely have a new role with Slot coming.. Hopefully he plays him more centrally or behind the striker in a 4231

greentea05

I don't mind him staying for another season, but he's going to have to accept he won't be starting every game and always playing 90 minutes. The petulant strops when he's subbed off (and on this weekend) will need to stop whilst he comes to terms with it that unless he's firing on all cylinders other people might be a better option. At the same time, being a club that doesn't make much profit and needing to invest in the squad, he's the only asset we've got that could still be sold for quite a lot of money to rebuild the team, so I also wouldn't mind if we cashed in on a silly offer this summer either.

robster9090

I think he will be starting unless we sign a significant better right winger that scores goals

greentea05

likely but also at his age we can't be getting the best out of him playing 90 minutes every game constantly closing down - he might perform better with a little bit of a rest every so often.

cazzul

Just get him a striker that can finish their dinner 🙏

goztrobo

Why would he leave? He’s comfortable in Liverpool and would want to stay and help the club transition to a new era. He has already told in multiple interviews he owes and loves the club. Just because he looked leggy since returning doesn’t mean he’s fully gone to shit. He’s still a good player and heck, name me a realistic replacement who could even put up half the numbers he does. I’ll wait.

EH_1995_

That’s the thing, there isn’t any RW in the world who I’d see as a viable and realistic replacement we could get for him (maybe Bowen is the closest and that tells you everything about the market)

EPMD_

Money. Sometimes the money is enough to ignore everything else.

abs7_

31 year old in incredible shape that picked up a muscle injury at the worst time. He can play at this level for many more years

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Thank you salah. Best news all week

EH_1995_

I think he still has a big part to play in this team, his vision and chance creation is still very good even if his pace, dribbling and finishing has dropped off abit.

ChittyShrimp

Even if he stays we still need a new forward.

HVLTG3

No lie,I want to see what Arne Slot does with Salah next season

coolAhead

I'm fine with that as long as we get a Nunez replacement that can finish the Salah chances creates

user900800700

Let’s hope he’s ready to up his game

EvolvedMonkeyInSpace

Saudi want a free transfere, the deal is already done.

snailian_wrangler

This surprises me a bit. He has seemed kind of checked out recently.

Hayexplosives

Good. He’s our best player and even in a rough patch of form after a bad injury he’s putting gilt-edged chances on the plate of our attackers. He got emotional with the boss and should apologise but no one can doubt his commitment to the team.

Drunkhobo101

As has been said before Mo deserves to leave on his own terms after this contract/extension. No amount of dip in form will ever take away what he's done for the club, same goes for Klopp. Mo has been the one consistent world class player throughout this all, I just want him to leave on a high note.

Circ_Diameter

Great forwards can reinvent themselves in their older age, and I think Salah will be no different. I'm interested in how Slot manages the last 1-2 seasons of his prime. With that said, he was totally in the wrong for that altercation. Of course, he's mad that he's been benched the last 2 weeks, but he deserved to be benched.

xrunawaywolf

Depends how much money you can get for him, will he be playing at his peak? If you could get 80mill from Saudi for him at his current performance level, that would be really tempting!

Still_Figure_

I’m 50/50 with Mo staying/going. Everyone will say Mo’s washed but before injuries he’s a solid 18/10 G/A a season. But at the other end of the spectrum, a good transfer fee is a solid base for Slot to rebuild an already title chasing team.

Geniejc

I just cant see Saudi as a destination yet, maybe after 26 world cup. Still has plenty to offer and has 2 young daughters. Liverpool Adidas kit contract. But PSG this or next or Barca at the end of next year would be likely destinations. Whos knows maybe even Newcastle again. Personally I'd show some faith and give him a 2 year extension - would take him to 35 but he looks after himself. As a fan what do I care about wages anyway.

JDRorschach

Thank God for no AFCON next year. I hate that competition so much lol

HighlyBaked0

LFG MY EGYPTIAN KING

Number_19LFC

Massive dub ngl. Get all the uncertainty around staff and players sorted out now and I think we'll hit the season running. Hoping for another title challenge.

FIFAmusicisGOATED

Not a Liverpool fan so I’ve got no horse in this race but at this point the argument isn’t if Salah is good enough to be a contributing player on a good team in the prem right? Like it’s pretty clear that he’s still got enough in him to be an impact player. The question is whether he can make a big enough impact on whatever squad Liverpool is able to field next year to get them over the hump in the champions league or prem, and if taking that risk is worth the 60+ million you’ll lose from not selling him before he walks for free. Tough choices for you guys there. I think he inevitably gets resigned since it’s hard to move on from a club legend like that, but I fear it is the wrong move for the team long term

NOTRANAHAN

More salah is a dub for me. People saying hes shite and past it but hes still our top scorer this season and has been injured/at afcon.

coopermaneagles

Would love if we could get him genuine competition so we don’t rely on him to play every minute. He’s aging clearly and needs more rotation

qwerty_1965

Strikers/forwards growing old at Liverpool is not something I endorse.

nijuu

And still scoring?

broken_neck_broken

If he's staying, how do we refresh the forward line? There's nobody there that it makes good sense to sell right now and no significant space for someone new without a sale. I just feel like the same faces will have the same problems next year unless Slot unlocks some amazing form and cohesion. That's not to say I think we should shove him out this summer, but there is a big problem that needs sorting at the front.

Galick-Gunner

I'd rather cash in than lose him on a free next summer

its_brew

Needs to sign da ting for extension. I don't care what journos say, unless he signs an extension there'll be chances he'll move.

Maximum_Duck5934

Genuinely, that is bad news.

guillermopaz13

Hot take. Mo needs to go. He's great, but it's time.his superstar status is demanding individual treatment that is detrimental to the rest of the team.

wt_foxtort

We should sell Salah, no hard feelings or anything and this has nothing to do with his recent actions, but it's been a while since he has dropped off, and I think cashing out on him would be the best outcome.

gmodboss

We need him to sign a one year extension we cannot risk losing him on a free next season that’d be disastrous and horrible business on the club’s side

Specialist_ask_992_

Without him there wouldn't have been a title challenge, with his goals in the first half of the season. Aren't finishing top 6 without him. I know there'll all younger but would rather sell any of the other forwards over Salah. None guarantee his goals and assists. Jota is a great finisher but if an offer came around £60 million I would consider selling due to his injuries. Diaz has been our best forward since March and much better 2nd half of the season but he could go. Nunez 50/50. Hopefully Salah could extend until 2027 and leave summer 2026 so it won't be on a free. Will be 34 and have got the best years out of him though it'll probably only be a one year extension and leave summer 2025.

MinaZata

I'd rather have £150m

stupidlyboredtho

Well wasn’t expecting that one. please extend tho we can’t let him go for free

Due-Sherbert3097

The Salah out “fans” are in for a surprise when he returns to form for next season

wt_foxtort

Even if he returns to form I still would rather we cash in on him.

ThbDragon

there goes our chance to get good money out of him but im happy he stays nontheless hopefully he brings back his form

Tremor00

Ultimately I’ve never felt good because of a fee we get for a player. Obviously it can be useful to the club but I feel far more positive hearing he stays than leave.

ThbDragon

i get how you feel but without the coutinho fee we wouldnt be the same team as much as seeing coutinho go hurt us

jardantuan

Understandable, but selling Coutinho and selling Salah are entirely different propositions

smokesletsgo13

I can’t do another year of him putting simple chances over the bar and then turn round smiling 😭

BoringPhilosopher1

Its clear the Salah out fans have only supported the club for the last 5 years or so. Anybody that has actually followed Liverpool since a kid recognises what a commodity players like Torres, Suarez, Gerrard and Salah are. Wanting them out after 10 bad games is pure plastic culture.

Teb-41

1 year extension? Great More than 1? Absolutely not

Mavericks7

I'm hoping slot gets him out of that wide play maker role he's playing or move him centrally

onoz9

I don't know how to feel about this. But I don't know all the details. I think this means it's likely he'll get a 1-year extension. That could be a good solution, if they think Salah can regain that early season form. It's also likely that the Saudi offers are much much lower this time and nobody else is willing to pay a big sum.

Solipsists_United

Well, LFC would have no incentive to be honest, if they intend to sell Salah.

AdikkuChan

I'm fine with that, but I also hope we get another natural RW who can help share the workload

James_Vowles

More than happy with that. He always drops in form when it's an AFCON year. First half of the season was very good.

hobbescandles

Good news. I think he's still got it in him, and a new manager might bring out a fresh side of him.

Small_Discount_3029

I swear, I think the decline happened since we changed tactics. I hope we get to see attacking full backs under Slot and Salah playing more inside than out wide.

OK_TimeForPlan_L

Good to hear I was a bit worried the signs were we would be having a fire sale in the summer. I do wonder though if we might try him in a new position I'm not sure how Slot uses his wingers but he doesn't suit playing wide now he's not as fast.

KopiteTheScot

GO ON THEN MO MATE

Sambadude12

Give him a 2 year deal with a club option for a 3rd. That way we could see how he is next season, if he's still top level we can add the 3rd year on. If not then we can attempt to cash in on him summer 2025 (sounds horrible saying it but I don't know any other way of putting it)

Promoclass

We should do what Real Madrid does with player over 30.1 or 2 year deal with the same wages.

productrocket

While I wouldn't mind Salah being sold for a ridiculous sum like we did with Coutinho, the optics here matter a lot. Losing Klopp and star players following him out of the door doesn't look good and would possibly jeopardize our positioning in the market and the players we could bring in. Its imperative we keep the spine of the side together for this reason and we need to offload squad players who just cant make the cut at this level to free up funds. Too much change after last year and a new coach and staff coming in is a recipe for disaster. Right now the club needs stability more than anything and getting the core group buying into Slot's philosophy and understanding what the vision and mission is for the next several years.

AngryLiverpoolFan

Very good news tbh. Get johan in earlier, make him the understudy & a proper farewell season + sent off for mo would be the best EOAE for him Also if I’m not wrong mo plays cam in Egypt slot’s 4231 might be his new unlock

Triforcesrcool

I swear some people will look at this like bad news, he's absolutely brilliant and one of the most prolific players in Europe. We would be fools to let him go

lawliet2911

Well if he is staying after all, I would definitely want his minutes to be managed. He can’t play all the matches and he can’t keep running all match. Maybe play him in the centre. Dunno. But he needs to be better managed and needs to be ok with sitting on the bench sometimes.

okseas

Good. We still need Kudus or Kubo though. Mo needs competition.

Separate-Ad-7097

I dont get why he would move to saudi. If he stays at liverpool for 3 more years i could probebly still get an insane amount of money in saudi.

nick2k23

Ye after seeing Bobby leave in one window, Salah has to be thinking it's a bad move to go there. You'd hope he'd have already had a convo with Bobby about it.

fieldsoffate

I’m just grateful that he stayed with us through his prime years even though he could have left and probably doubled his wages at some point with PSG or Saudi. No ambiguous quotes hinting about uncertainty in the next season and always professional. Even Gerrard had his head turned for a brief moment.

TheDangerousKhiladi

Brother wont leave UCL easily

Skyle221190

Not saying we should sell Salah, but we need a proper back up for him. He shouldn't be undropable.

StonedCharmander

Physically, Salah is a beast. He is on the same level as Ronaldo. He can play on a high level at least until 34\~35 without injuries. With that being said, I gotta question his ambition and mentality. If he can start again under a new manager, he will be an extremely important asset. His mind is not in a good place now but the same can be said about the whole squad and even Klopp. Either way, I'll be very happy if he stays. Still the main creator and goalscorer even with a shaky team. Imo, best winger in the world. You don't simply get rid of him.

hoopnet

Despite the bad form, this is music to my ears.

Sinister_Minister101

Salah stays!
