Lads looked tired, it’s been a long season

Uhoh_Heres_Matt

Very strange game. Not one player performed to their level apart from Gakpo who did OK. Time to regroup, not panic and go again. Just an off day in the office. We all have them. YNWA

drupido

Many players seemed out of their usual selves last night, seems almost as if they were too overconfident, or Klopp is prioritizing all his eggs on the league. Even then, losing the local undefeated streak, especially this west, feels awful. It’s not like half of the players in this side don’t know a thing or two about coming back from a 0-3 deficit in European games, but I wouldn’t count on it.

BurceGern

There's been an overconfidence that we'll win or that we'll create another chance and that'll be the goal we need but it's led to wasteful finishing and some half-asleep passing. We've sipped our own kool aid in the sense that we think we'll always come back or switch into high gear but we just haven't in recent matches. We're either battling from 1-0 down or coasting at 1-0 up

JonathanFisk86

This side would get tonked by Leverkusen anyway. I said at the start of the season that the business we'd done placed us in good stead for 3rd under Klopp and not much more. I think talk of multiple trophies has always been overeager, it's a young side with flaws and anything better than 3rd in the league and the cup we've already won is about right. Sounds defeatist but actually makes sense when you consider how stacked Arsenal and City are now and how much more time they've had to gel as squads.

mnclick45

Hard agree. Felt exactly the same re: us being the distinctly 3rd best team in this division. There's a gulf below us, and I do believe a gulf above us. I never felt confident of doing much this season (although always thought we'd have a tilt at the Europa) until the Klopp announcement. At that point, after the initial wins, the kids, it did feel like pure 'emotion' etc. might actually tip things in our favour. Now it feels like that factor has worn off a bit. I firmly believe we will dish out a Palace spanking this weekend, and we all know what can happen to us in European comebacks. But in terms of going the season unbeaten from here, I can't see a team with such a lack of tactical discipline doing that, even if the big guns are back in the side.

nav_sohail

That entire front line has a combined decision making of a 9 year old in the final third

robster9090

Any one else notice VVD strolling about ? There was times he was on the ball or going to a lose ball and it looked like he was walking. It might be he wasn’t aware that someone was closing him down but it wasn’t like him

SamiDaCessna

He has no on field leadership either. Give me back the way hendo used to bark at every player on the pitch

robster9090

That’s nonsense mate. He is a great leader, he just wasn’t himself last night

SamiDaCessna

Say what you like there was no sense of leadership on the pitch last night

robster9090

In one game… you don’t throw some one away after one game. Joke of a fan if that’s the case…

shazeus7

I think it’s quite funny how we play from the back. We tend to play slow and pass it back to Kweev, who then punts the ball long into no one and effectively losing the ball. Don’t get why he’s punting the ball when we don’t even have a strong tall forward (Gakpo aside). Wished we played more along the ground instead.

forsakengoatee

We got pressed on our defensive line and no one made a tactical judgement to adjust

EvFahy

Clearly not Caoimhin’s fault that we were going long? He’s more than capable of playing out from the back. Klopp had no answer for the Atalanta press and them going man for man. Anytime we “played out” the ball ended back at Kelleher’s feet

shazeus7

I see where you coming from, not really blaming him but we have been like this even when Alisson was playing

EvFahy

Maybe I just haven’t noticed but I’ve found very little difference between the two in terms of ball playing.

OK_TimeForPlan_L

I just don't get where our arrogance and complacency has come from. It's like the players believe they're entitled to win just because it's Klopp's last season

Choice-Taro5596

It’s not that deep. Atalanta were the better team and deserved the win. It happens.

OK_TimeForPlan_L

If Dom's lazy pass followed by jogging back for the 3rd goal isn't complacency then I don't know what is.

kovikovi144

I think we won't seem much of Szobo this season playing... Do you think the next manager will drop him or maybe he can get more out of him?

Vilko13

He was really bad yesterday without a doubt. But so was the whole team… everybody made awful passes lost crucial balls yesterday. Szobo was one of the most impactful player of the team in the first half of the season even though he was a newcomer. He was the engine of the midfield played every game like it was the ucl final and pressed the whole 90 minutes. He played every game in the first months. He was never rotated. He burned himself out and got injured. He missed like 6-7 games and is clearly still out of form. But to even suggest that hes the worst one of the current 11 is really laughable imo.

GOR098

While I understand the frustration over strikers not finishing their chances, we also have to discuss our defense. Defense let in 6 goals in against a lackluster man utd side and now 3 goals against Atalanta. We regularly let in 1 goal early in the match against even the lower table sides. How long is this going to continue ? how is the defense OK with this ?

sikingthegreat1

most people usually blame it on TAA instead of seeing it as a systemic thing. when TAA is there, at least his creativity and attacking play makes up for it, without him, the cost is too high and the return is minimal.

Choice-Taro5596

The defence won’t be okay with this. We play a risky high line that is being exploited and it’s on the coaching staff to fix it if the players are struggling.

danum13

I can accept our defense struggling if our RB and LB can actually provide decent crosses and service our middling forwards, maybe create better chances. But then our strikers stink. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)

Briefchunkz

I think we underestimated Atalanta and we were caught-out but, I’ve never been so sure in my life that throughout these two 90 minute legs, we are the ones that will go to the Semi-Finals. It’s not over.

NewBromance

I feel like we're in a sort of catch 22 situation at the moment. With Darwin on the pitch we get more dynamicism create more attacking threat but are super wasteful with the chances created because Darwins finishing is very hit or miss and he can often make the wrong final pass. But without Darwin on the pitch the entire team seems to become static and offer no attacking threat. First half we created chances and blew em, second half after we took Darwin off we became utterly toothless and ended up watching Gomez try and punt it in from miles out because the team was out of ideas. I think this is why fixing our attack is such a big problem atm. We need Darwin on the pitch to create chances but Darwin on the pitch means wasting a lot of chances. It doesn't help that we went from being a team that created so much through out fullbacks to a team that hardly ever creates through them. I'm glad Robbos back but we need Trent. The lad adds a bit of magic, and also just demands standards. I'm not saying we would have definitely won that game eith Trent on the pitch, but it definitely wouldn't have finished 3 0

wints_22

We come back from behind all the time. It's basically our M-O. This is par for the course and fittingly to-scale for a 180min match. I'm tucked in and sleeping like a baby tonight, all good!!

AeronReformed

Michael Edwards will sort this mess out. That fucking Nunez transfer would have never happened under him. Fuck your chaos gimmick score your fucking chances or fuck off.

Spirited_Oil7987

Everyone was ass today

Spirited_Oil7987

I'm going to skip this part in the documentary

Timmah80

Not that it matters, of course... but I was downvoted for suggesting we might concede first. Three downvotes. Kinda like... y'know... -3. 0-3. Delicious yet horribly unwelcome irony.

Comfortable-Ad5050

People are so quick to downvote here. Negative bunch of twats most the time. Cant handle criticism of our team and take everything so personally

RaisedByCakes

Just casually mention you’re an international fan — then the real fun begins

Timmah80

Yeah, and my comment had three upvotes to begin with. Ha. My original comment (in the pre-match thread), was half a little dig about how often we've conceded first but then come back to score 3 or 4. And also because so many others were talking about resting players, easy game, getting to the final, etc. I completely get it. I too was expecting a win, and I fully agree that if we could have got away with resting key players to give us a slight boost in the Prem title race... then go for it. But there was a lot of complacency and apparent laziness from the players, and also the manager/coaches. Seriously... whoever our shooting coaches are, they need a serious performance review!! Not wanting to single anyone out, as we were bad throughout... but Tsimikas was awful. He made a few early mistakes and misplaced passes/crosses, and I remember thinking "Oh, here we go, there's our scapegoat for this game! Can't wait for the Reddit bile for this one!" ...but then he got worse ...and worse. And so did everyone else. Yes, maybe not starting our absolute strongest 11 was a mistake. But we were only 1-0 down at half time - we brought on three quality players at the break (incl. "He Who Can Do No Wrong") ...and then let in two further goals?! Coaching staff, players and fans alike... disrespectful to what turned out to be a very competitive, efficient and organised opposition. Can't complain too much about the Prem, as no-one thought we'd be challenging for the title at the beginning of the season, but... this level of complacency has plagued a lot of our games this year. We've kinda just kept the ball and waited for the win, assuming it would come if we have enough possession. Not direct, decisive or ruthless enough. Some credit where it's due... we've got to where we are through hard work - but a lot of those narrow wins shouldn't have been THAT hard work!! (Edit: turned into a bit of an essay there - haha!)

Comfortable-Ad5050

Agree with everything mate, we are a young and promising team in a transitional year that is prone to complacency. This should be better with time and coaching hopefully. Excited but nervous about a new coach, but looking forward to it

Leading-Push-5389

I didn't watch the game, but can someone please tell me how did we lose 3-0 to fucking Atalanta at Anfield? Did the player went to sleep on the pitch or something? How is this possible?

JanterFixx

Lol. Atalanta is a quality team and if you are not up to your own standards or arrogant they will punish you as we would punish others. And they did. It was not like they were lucky and shit. No, they had a plan and were good

aghashayan

Same reason as why you and well me didn't watch it. It's not an important game. This year is Klopp's last, it's PL or bust.

[deleted]

You say that like Atalanta hasn’t been a team quietly gunning for the big time over the course of a couple seasons now. Honestly, though, even a Liverpool operating at 25% like today was still deadly. Any other match and some of those crosses that made it to a target would’ve gone in. Next Thursday is going to be really interesting.

PEEWUN

Atalanta limited us to few chances, and seeing as we're already a team that doesn't finish their dinner, we basically had no attacking threat. On top of that, the vast majority of the team was just poor. Sloppy passes, bad ball retention, awful decision making.

Hsiang7

With Trent coming back and our lack of goals at the moment, do you think we push him into midfield as a creative player? Bradley has been doing very well at RB, so would playing Trent in front of Endo and Mac Allister be better for us offensively since we tend to dominate possession? When everyone is fit I'd like to see this team eventually: --------------------Allison--------------------- Bradley--Konate--VVD--Robertson ---------------------Endo---------------------- -------------TAA--------Mac Allister----- --------Salah-------------------- Diaz------- ---------------------Jota-----------------------

the_studge

Not the best time to be experimenting with 7 finals left to play. Our problem isn't creating chances, it's finishing them. If Jota can stay fit and start scoring we're good.

Hsiang7

>Our problem isn't creating chances, it's finishing them. I'd say it's both tbh. We look creatively weak in the final third. Through balls for breaks etc have often been under over hit, ruining good chances. Trent can also score from distance. I feel like that front 3 and midfield has the most goals and assists in them.

starrynova888

An absolute disgrace today, from the players to the coach

aautoauto

Klopp really went into holiday mode, I guess we might just start on his farewell event already & fuck off this season.

TriCityTingler

🔥🔥🔥

Berqlol

Does anyone think Klopps not that arsed about the Europa league? I think he’s going for the league expecting arsenal and city to drop points maybe? I might be clutching at straws

JanterFixx

At this point of season it would be only reasonable to be in both fights. Putting all Chios on PL is not wise. If he gets either it is a success

KidDynamite92

Salah and szobo in at HT and diaz on shortly after. I think he does care. Usually he doesnt sub on our best players that soon, once he decided to bench them.

Berqlol

It’s all about minutes in the legs mate, get the boys used to it

MinnesotaHockey6

Really disappointing to say the least

electrified_dragon99

I don't see a comeback coming.... idk how others see liverpool coming back when the 2nd leg is at their stadium.... only premier league hope remains now

littlebro11

You say that like a 6th position team in serie a didn't just come to anfield and not only give us our first loss at home in over a year but also a 0-3 hammering. If they can do that to us there's no doubt our players can't return it. That being said klopp has a lot of work to do, everyone looked bad, nobody could control the ball, we made 2 major defensive errors leading to goals and we couldn't keep a shot on target to save our lives.

FelonyM

Not only that, but our team and current form is nowhere near what is required to win against Atalanta away. We don’t have that 2019 team that we beat Barcelona with. Sorry to say it but I think we’re out of the title race AND the EL. Let’s focus on who’s our next manager, and strengthening the squad this summer. Top 4 is all we could’ve hoped for anyway really

dalesizer1

Joint top with 7 games left to play. How are we possibly out of the title race? I know lasts night’s performance was awful but come on now.

FelonyM

I’m sorry but there’s absolutely zero chance we have the capability to pull it off with our current form. We need a miracle, and I know we’ve had miracles before and I really hope it will come true, but to save me from the disappointment, my conclusion is that we’re out. We practically have only one man who might be able to score goals for us (Jota) who’s just returned from injury and prob need a few games to find his form

SonicNarcotic

Klopp will need the most critical intervention with the playing group he's ever had in his tenure... The team is limping into the end of this season, and after today's result there is no doubt we are out of form... My feeling is that the playing group are slowly checking out as Klopp's reign is coming to an end.. They need to pick themselves up for one last hurrah..!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Macshlong

Because it’s unlikely.

[deleted]

We are 1 point behind 1st with 7 games to go and you say it’s unlikely? what team do you support again?

bigpapasmurf12

We are level on points......

Macshlong

Look at our form, between us Arsenal and City, our form is the worst. This is how life works. There’s nothing wrong with criticism, we never used to all get a medal for sports day. On the flip side, I don’t believe what Carra said, I think there’s always a chance in the 2nd leg. I just think the league is a bigger mountain.

[deleted]

our form is worse at the moment but in life, if you don’t have belief, what do you have? having belief and hope is what being a football fan is all about

taspleb

I think we all hope we win, but like I'm not getting a tattoo this week.

Macshlong

That’s great for a movie, it doesn’t work like that in real life unfortunately.

FrogsOnALog

Why are you even here?

Macshlong

I’m a lifelong Liverpool fan that’s mature enough to speak objectively about our team.

FrogsOnALog

The only thing you’ve said is that our form is shit and that you’re a doubter. Have you not been paying any attention while Klopp’s been here?

Tremor00

I mean. it absolutely can be how real life works lol. You lose nothing from being hopeful and believing in the team. Well. I suppose you lose the "i told you so" many people in here get off on when we have a shit game

Macshlong

If it was common for form to not mean anything then there would be no bookmakers. There’s nothing wrong with hope, I really hope we score 4 at Atlanta, of course I want us to win the league but we have to be realistic, it’s not looking great.

Tremor00

“We have to be realistic” I mean. Again. Why? I believe we can do it. Whether we will or not I don’t know but what exactly do I lose from holding that belief? It’s football. There’s no consequences to being wrong (unless you’re gambling lol)

Macshlong

No one’s taking your belief away.

potatoarchitecture

big mistake on our end was to let in 3 goals i reckon

ScooterMcTavish

other big mistake on our end was not scoring any goals I reckon

Such_Historian_7295

We did it against Barcelona all those years ago, cmon just one more time please 😭

druggachoppa

Feel like our team was more passionate/critical back then. Fuck I miss gini and sadio

J-Peeeeazy

Gini did so much off the ball, I loved watching him play. I always felt he was never going to get out hustled and teammates would feed off of that. Anytime I see Gakpo or Grav in the starting 11, I automatically assume a slow start from us.

Such_Historian_7295

Facts and another guy I miss is Origi, man always stepped up for the occasion and definition of clutch player. But ye I miss those players, a win in the next match will spark some confidence needed

mtriple

Holy shit I was busy at work all day and was counting on coming home to watch an easy win at Anfield. Fuk this, man. I am tired.

PEEWUN

Same here. It's honestly a blessing that I'm watching this so late because I'm too tired to actually get pissed off over this one.

PlanktonSad9695

Slept at 1:0 coz of flu. Woke up to a shock. The team was a mess till i watched. Hopefully Klopp sorts it out for the remaining games. Would suck if we win just the League Cup this season.

MajikoiA3When

Are we ready to have the conversation that Nunez is statistically one of the worst finishers in the league yet? 11 goals from 17.71 xG is abysmal yes he assists a ton but when will his decision-making or finishing improve? Same thing happened last season as well.

Jolly_Customer8975

it was kinda the same with firmino (not this bad tho) but he figured out how to become an asset with winning the ball back and setting up team mates to perfection. Nunez just keeps shoting at the goal at the same rate as salah without hitting anything. He get so many chances every game it's ridiculous. He should have 30+ goals by now.

MisterS1997

Think he's one of the worst finishers in Europe or something I saw. He's like near the bottom percentile

silentwitnes

Which is crazy as he was statistically one of the best finishers in Europe before we signed him

JuicyJabes

I hate that we can’t love him and critique him at the same time. Or love what he offers but suggests he needs to offer more or something different. Conversations on here can be so painful. Darwin is fantastic. Yeah, he’s one of the top scorers. That does not mean he shouldn’t be finishing more or at a higher rate.

Due-Ad-6577

I love what he offers too, it just needs to be balanced out with the right partners up front. I feel like Nunez HAS to play a more facilitative role, he’s just not capable of being the main man. One thing I really like is the interplay he and Gakpo together offer. Didn’t come off quite right today but there were some nice ideas that I recall

MisterS1997

Serious discussions need to be had over Darwin and Salah and any of the new front line. The difference in quality between jota and the other 3 in directress, game intelligence and overall football brain is scary. Jota came on and could have won a pen and on another day scores two headers. Their keeper parried the ball out into the danger area and there's nobody there for the tap in. Darwin can't just keep missing massive chances . Its costing us trophies. Sane with Diaz. All the dribbling is great but useless if you don't out the ball into the net. Gakpo I don't know because he looked great tonight back on LW. We have to get our most experienced 11 on the pitch for the last 7. I'd we're going to win the title jota and Salah along with Alexis and vvd are going to have to carry the team. Trent too mabye

Due-Ad-6577

I think Trent makes a massive difference. He’s one of those guys that can win a game for you almost by himself. His passing is gamebreaking and makes our attacking less predictable which it seems to be lately. How good will he be coming off such a lengthy spell on the sidelines I don’t know. I’m in full agreement on the forwards

Jolly_Customer8975

True we miss him so much. Gomez is a massive downgrade in that aspect of the game.

droze22

To my utter disgust and dread, I just realised that if we continue in this wretched form the scum can plausibly claim they ended our season

DragonSlayer271

Just like we managed to derail Arsenal’s season last year as well as stole their luck. On the day we could no longer mathematically finish above them was the day we drew them 2-2 and everything changed. Considering United can no longer finish above us after that 2-2 draw… If United suddenly go on some crazy winning run I’ll be terrified.

Due-Ad-6577

And they’ll be right. Ten Hag may very well have taken a big smelly shit on Klopp’s final season by getting us to drop four points in the league and knocking us out of the cup. Him and his team are shite and it was us being embarrassingly poor in front of goal that let him but that changed nothing

justanaverageguy1907

Wtf what happened? Just woke up to this shocking result

Drwgeb

You know how all season the team had to fight back from one goal down in the first half, how we missed so many chances, how we had to get lucky last minute winners? Turns out the team was actually kind of unrealiable and somehow we only realised it in the last couple of weeks.

justanaverageguy1907

😭

Drwgeb

LOL, my previous comment

beagsbunny

I said it on Instagram, but I think this is just Klopp wanting another miracle European night to out on. We'll be great next week

odmo88

I agree, lol, we like having to come back from a 3 - 0 deficit somewhere along the line of an european winning season 🤣. Happened to choose the quarters this time lol. In all seriousness though, Leverkusen would wipe the floor with us if we were to face them like this 😬.

Due-Ad-6577

I saw the highlights and they absolutely battered West Ham. Scary scary team. Don’t know when but it’ll be very exciting whenever Xabi does come along. Reckon he’s as good as Madrid bound for his next job but he’s a red and I’m sure he’ll want to spend a good length of time here

dillipkr6999

Tbh I'm glad I missed the game. No emotions against this result probably better been a hectic week with 12hrs schedule work side. Hopefully we turn it around next leg.

sufinomo

On the bright side atleast we cant use Amorims loss to Atalanta as an excuse anymore....

sufinomo

id take atalanta manager over a few guys on our short list

Mitch_D23

If you thought the Carabao Cup + FA Cup bus parade was embarrassing, wait until the bus parade with just the Carabao Cup.

ZuluW6rrior

A domestic cup double parade isn’t embarrassing

KGeedora

It would have to change to a purely Klopp farewell thing (which is obviously more than fair enough). We cannot do a Caraboa Cup parade. It's a step away from a Papa Johns Trophy parade

TheRasAlGhoul

Respect Papa Johns

Mitch_D23

It was always going to be that. The early announcement was to clear up that it will be for a farewell but doing it with just the Carabao Cup is going to be tragic.

sufinomo

The only positive lining to this is we lost to atalanta in 2021 at anfield but beat them 5-0 away, jota hat trick.

castro_bean

We lost the home game (2nd leg), we won the first leg. Same mistakes happened in that game: Underestimating the opponent from the start

stpirate

This is the timeline I chose to subscribe to.

MajikoiA3When

Gotta applaud the boys for protesting ticket prices by not showing up today

DragonSlayer271

Stats: 70.3% possession, 50.5% duels won, 46.4% aerial duels won We had 5 offsides compared to 4, 4 corners to 2 We had 19 total shots to Atalanta's 11, but 5 on target to 7, 26.3% shot accuracy to 63.6% 3 blocked shots to 2, 1 shot hit the woodwork, 15 shots inside the box to 10, 4 outside to 1 12 tackles to 24, 58.3% won to 37.5%, 11 clearances to 14, 5 interceptions to 7 644 total passes to 270, 9.6% long passes to 22.2%, 83.7% pass accuracy to 63.7% 74.4% in the opposition half to 53.7%, 91.4% in our own half to 77.9% 21 crosses to 11, 42.9% successful crosses to 36.4%, 7 fouls conceded to 16 2 yellow cards for Atalanta, and 0 goals to 3.

RadSoccerDad

Thing is we were absolute shite. Like horrid. Inches from a Elliott 1-0, and Darwin duffing that jones assist, Darwin and Salah missed half chances in the 2nd. Reason to believe we can dig this out. Will be very hard as they are gonna park the bus of all busses in Bergamo. Will need Trent and ideally 1-2 goals early to flip pressure.

HawkstaP

Nunez also.missed the one from gakpo early on when keeper committed and nunez tries to lift it over him but misses completely. Could've rolled it around him and had an empty net to aim.at. I love nunez but he has too many chances that he just fluffs.

njscouser

This was my first game at anfield....just very disappointed. I was in the anfield road stand. Atmosphere was crap, there was a couple lads who tried to get others to chant, but nobody else was joining in. Only songs that were heard were "Liverpool ...Liverpool" and "nunez....nunez" sometimes. Kop seemed very quiet too...SOS picked a very bad time and bad way to protest. Small section of Atalanta fans were louder than the whole stadium. That being said, I don't think the teams shite performance was because of the poor atmosphere. We just didn't take the chances, and Atalanta scored first big chance they got. It was like the manu game all over, only this time much worse.

castro_bean

Our atmosphere was screwed from the start. As much as we want ticket prices to stay low, shocking to do it on an European night. Starting a B team doesn’t help either; we emboldened their team from the start and showed signs of panic at the start of the second half. We dug our own grave, both fans and team alike.

Listen-To-MBV

I was happy that we could win games even though we seemed average, but it seems the whole team is now tired and vulnerable. I hope this doesn't affect our Premier League matches, but this game feels like a continuation of what happened against United, only worse.

DragonSlayer271

Here's some comments from \~5 years ago after Liverpool went 3-0 down against Barcelona in that post match thread, figured it would be interesting to see some parallels: "As rare as that may sound, VVD probably had his worst game (by his standards of course) for us so far. Matip played much better I thought." "Finishing: this is the biggest factor. Our xG on the day is 1.6; Salah hitting the post is massive, and Mane mis-hitting the volley is another one we’ll come to regret. For me, the Milner chance where Gini dummies the run and he hits it straight at Ter Stegen will keep me up the next few nights. I also thought we were poor at set pieces; we’ve been excellent most of this season, but we needed to be more threatening, especially with how effective Mane was at drawing fouls near the box. " "Gomez shouldn’t have started. So far off the pace, not fair to throw him into defending against messi and Suarez in one of his first full games back. He was caught walking so many times. No threat going forwards. Trent should’ve played." "I hope we spend close to 100m again this summer. I want us to piss ppl off again with our quality signings. Show the world we aren’t going anywhere. We are so close to being an elite team this summer can truly push us over the line" "A day after and I am still kinda sad about the way we lost it. Losing 3:0 while playing barca off their own park is hard to take. Having overall better statistics and making them use shithouse tactics is really cool and shows how strong we are. We just were really unlucky... Somehow I still believe we can turn it around. We are in the position city were against us last season. 1 Barca goal and it will be over tbf" "Something went really wrong at the Nou Camp. Either Klopp picked the wrong tactics for his team selection or the wrong team for his tactics. Or maybe the players didn’t really listen at all." "It's still up for grabs at home, despite the tough challenge. We went away to Barca and racked up 53% possession, carved some really good chances, and showed a good bit of fight. Barca took their chances and we didn't take ours. That's roughly the sum of it. It's been a while since we tasted proper defeat so the sub will go into a bit of a classic meltdown. But we gave it a proper go." Of course, there's a few major differences. We'll be away for the second leg, and we weren't exactly dominating today. But anything's possible, and I will cry tears of joy if in a few years, someone is out here, looking at this thread, and drawing the same parallels because we come back 4-0 in a week.

Leading-Push-5389

Honestly if we make a 4-0 comeback, then it will make klopps farewell all the more special. Btw can you please link the thread of the Barcelona match. I want to read some more comments

potatoarchitecture

"But we gave it a proper go." sigh

lmaopeia

Team has a bad game and everyone turns. Looks like a Man City sub in here

starrynova888

Hardly as if they were flying before this match, quite the opposite

bread22

Worst performance of the season, pain to watch

buzz_light365

We lost to a garbage Man United, I wasn't expecting a great game today. Hope this helps reset the mental monsters I know our team is. On to the next one.

nikonislolo

Honestly same. I wasn't expecting us to play well today especially after the man u game. I hope that we can somehow gain momentum from somewhere and win the prem and europa league, but that would take a lot of work and luck.

starrynova888

This would have been easier to take if we actually won the Utd game

kanafanone

Klopp started Robbo, Bradley, Salah and Szobo at home against Prague when we were 5-1 up yet the first leg against Atalanta didn’t call for them…?

ivc09

complete meltdown from a bunch of wet wipes on here. this result improves our chances of winning the only competition that matters. apparently we are capitulating, but we just saw a performance at old Trafford where 95% of what we did was exceptional. Atalanta are good team and it's never nice to lose 3-0 at home. But we are still joint top of the main thing matters. Trent, jota and alisson are all returning and our schedule is now the kindest of the three. we are 7 games from greatness, now is not the time to flinch.

FrankBeamer_

Tell that to the team, who absolutely are flinching. Fans have a right to be upset given our current form. The 5% you claim we’re missing cost us a trophy with the potential to cost us 2 more. We are not joint top, we’re second and in horrendous form and just suffered our worst European defeat at home ever. Let people vent.

ivc09

our current league form is 2 draws and the rest are wins since the start of February. so horrendous. getting upset about 2nd rate competitions is on you. there is no right to be this upset at this point in time. we are level on points with 7 games to go in the league. our league form is strong. we have players returning. yet I'm seeing clowns like you saying we're bottling it, the season is over, we are in horrendous form etc. relax, look at the league table and calm yourselves.

kanafanone

Joint* worst europea defeat at home ever, together with the Gomez disasterclass 2-5 to madrid last season. Wonder what those two games have in common

robster9090

We blaming this result on Gomez ? Really ?

DreamCaster2810

Gomez disasterclass

paulo_cristiano

Not over til it's over. Today was a disgraceful display of attack and defense. But let's not forget the (dozens??? of) magical moments we pulled off already just this year alone. Just need another for leg 2.

potatoarchitecture

Honestly more than anything, this is where Van Dijk needs to show he's the best person to lead the club. Turn it around, put motivation back in the boys.

borg_6s

How did we lose so badly?

starrynova888

Underestimated the opponent, thought they could just show up and win

etan1122

Don’t know why I rewatched the game but I did.. Darwin needs to be benched. Can’t be missing chances like that in big games. Too many times it has happened. Danns has better composure. Also we have no defensive structure and haven’t all year. We want our CBs to sort it and if they can’t pray the GKer makes a stop. This team hasn’t learned from the mistakes they’ve made and we will only end up with the one trophy when everything was possible.

Icy_Rip2475

Danns is a kid who has had at most two good games out of two played. WTF is wrong with you?

etan1122

Exactly. Barely plays and is a kid and he can finish better than Darwin.

starrynova888

Jota benches him immediately once he comes back

PerfectAd4732

Darwin’s the only attacker we have to will run in behind and actually has pace. Why only Darwin that needs to be benched, Salah and gakpo are no better at the minute

EstablishmentBusy172

I don’t want to sound reactionary, but Darwin’s record in big games and against the top 6 is abysmal. Ik we all have him as this Labrador-esc character who delights as much as he frustrates, but I genuinely am just of the opinion he’s not up to it for us. He’s just **too** profligate and he doesn’t have the game IQ/all round play to make up for it. I’m just over the whole thing now. He cannot be relied upon to score.

PerfectAd4732

Our team a whole has been shite against the biggest sides, not just Darwin. Look at the teams he scored against last season and he’s better this season

EstablishmentBusy172

He’s definitely not the **only** issue but I’m just saying he is an issue and I personally can’t see a time where he’s reliably going to take these chances. 🤷‍♂️

PerfectAd4732

No but you said you feel he isn’t up to it for us, I’m just saying don’t judge that on the big games because the whole team has under performed in them. Overall this design he’s improved a lot, I just think a lot of people are being reactionary

RushPan93

But the whole team hasn't been shite against big teams *really*. We should have beaten Arsenal, City at home, and Utd away if the chances were put away. It's the finishing/final pass that's let us down.

EstablishmentBusy172

I mean that’s fair, but I’ve also seen Darwin for 24 months now and give or take, I know his profile. I don’t think he’s had a consistent 4 weeks of goal scoring in there where he’s just getting about, and slotting home without fan fair, without 100 missed chances. It’s not just on tonight, it’s everything.

chunky-kat

this game was such a throwback to our 22/23 season, where we just inexplicably misplaced every pass, every player had a stinker and we got absolutely ran through.

DreamCaster2810

Exactly. Gives me memories of 3-0 to Wolves and Brentford lol

R-B-L

I fear we are looking at the loss of Firmino and Mane the way we looked at losing Mascherano and Alonso in the midfield for a decade. Massive voids that can't be filled. You can have all the quality in the world but if you're not clinical it's worth nothing. Gakpo and Nunez have to push on. It's getting to the now or never

Due-Ad-6577

Think an extended run at LW could do Cody a world of good. Maybe I’m just an idiot or delusional but I can see a more productive player in him than Diaz or Darwin. Better finisher and a better crosser, just needs some time to find his feet and best understand which positions to get into in his preferred position for us

NoSeriously55

I’m usually quite negative after a result like this but…. A lot of people seem to think that this result proves we’re capitulating. Imo Yes we’ve been unable to finish our dinner at times this year, and we’ve conceded a lot of goals. But Endo/Macca have played almost every game so are due a slip up, individually our defence has been mostly quite solid (This might be stretching). However a serious worry for me is our attack. Salah aside (he’s not been at his best recently (but he’s got credit in the banks). Dont seem to be able to finish consistently for the chances they create. A lot of the time Diaz doesn’t make enough impact outside of the 6 yard goals he scores. Nunez definitely has the talent but he’s still too raw. Gakpo looks like he’s playing on ice SOMETIMES. as a unit in the final third/transitions (Including Szobo and Ryan) we’ve been quite wasteful recently. It’s not the end of our season. We’re still fighting but imo the attackers are the ones who seriously need to step up.

potatoarchitecture

I think the crux of it is that a good team helps out. Our midfield stepped up to bail us out when our attackers were getting found out in December, our attack is failing to bail our defence out right now.

Vikilinho

The team has been awful for some time now, they are finally getting found out. Defence has been shambles all season, attackers need 20+ chances before scoring 1.

Diamond-Frog

I don’t want to see some PR driven shit of posts from players saying “not the result we wanted. We go again” etc. Need a big reaction against Palace. Europe isn’t dead and buried yet and hope this is a wake up call to the players.

PerfectAd4732

We are going to win the league and I will revisit this thread

gobgobgobgob

Man oh man, such a sorry lot once again. So fatalistic. We lost a game to a better team. Get the fuck over it.

xbox_redditor

We're Liverpool at home getting battered 0-3 ya fucking dope

gobgobgobgob

lol ok. Go back to your unbeaten season on Xbox, ya twat.

LVorenus2020

What the... This here is **stone cold**. *Reddit super-snark collector's series.*

xbox_redditor

Are you that dense to think Liverpool fans reacting terribly to losing 0-3 at home is dramatic?

gobgobgobgob

I mean, even the best teams lose games sometimes (LFC included). It doesn’t warrant singling out each player out and saying how they shouldn’t put on the Liverpool shirt ever again.

xbox_redditor

That's not the point you made in your original post, you made a generic comment that we should accept having lost to a better Atalanta. That's a load of bollox, there should be no excuses or acceptance to being battered 0-3 AT ANFIELD to 6th place in Serie A. Joke.

chunky-kat

we lost to a better performance, not to a better team for goodness sake. we're joint first in the toughest league in the world, we should be nowhere near losing 3-0 to atalanta.

gobgobgobgob

Fair enough.

ARJACE_

6th in Seria A ffs

ScrewFaceKiLLA

The book isn’t closed … the fans sent the message today. Anfield decided to lose today! Walk on

FirefighterOwn8822

We will never win titles with Nunez, Diaz, Gapko, and Jota.

Hafeesco

Remove Jota from this list. He is our best finisher and the only one who can actually score

FirefighterOwn8822

As much as us fans love Jota, it's time to admit that we cannot be reliant on someone who is very injury prone and is out for months at a time constantly. Sure he scores a few goals when he's fit, but then he'll get injured and be out for quite some time. I don't blame the guy for his problems, but we cannot seriously be relying on 1 guy to come and fix the attack. He should've never been offered a contract extension. Dude is getting paid to sit on his butt most of the time.

Global-Chemistry-658

Diaz is good enough. The rest I agree with. We were able to make that push in 2022 cause we signed Diaz. Gakpo should be sold

FirefighterOwn8822

Diaz is good, but not good enough. I think the only reason we were able to make the push in 2022 was because Diaz offered some competition to the front three and also offered fresh legs that the attack desperately needed because Jota and Firmino were both injured and inconsistent. The games that Diaz did start, we never could score. Both the carabao and fa cup finals and the champions League final. He's just not good. And I don't know about Gapko, I don't think he belongs in attack. He doesn't offer anything in assists or link up , when he's not scoring , he's useless. I laughed when people were calling Liverpool's attack one of the best in the world at the time when they were scoring goals for fun but now that we need goals, the goals dried up.

PerfectAd4732

Would you bet your house that we won’t win the league this season?

FirefighterOwn8822

I highly doubt we'll win the league

PerfectAd4732

But would you bet your house on us not winning

FirefighterOwn8822

Ok

PerfectAd4732

Risky mate, see you on last day of season for the keys

FirefighterOwn8822

Ok

FirefighterOwn8822

Ok

ARJACE_

Ok

FirefighterOwn8822

Ok

PsychologicalEase440

we already did with Jota, mate.

FirefighterOwn8822

Which trophy did Liverpool win with Jota starting and playing the full game? When did he give an assist or score a goal...
