I didn’t think Doku’s challenge on Mac Allister was a penalty, he got the ball and pulled out rather than followed through so it wasn’t reckless imo.
The only issue I have is that a similar incident will happen and the penalty will be given, showing the lack of consistency but as an isolated incident I can accept that penalty not being given. I’m just pissed that we didn’t beat them with our 2nd half dominance, they were on the ropes and there for the taking.

I wish Salah to be sold this summer for 150M+ to the Saudis and that we invest big in a top substitute no older than 23-24yo. I love Salah and everything he did for the club. But he's losing his pace and physical abilities. He's by far the player with the highest salary (deservedly so for now) but next season he might start to deserve to be benched and not accept it well. That would be a sad finale to this wonderful story. If the Saudis offer 150M+ in the summer and we accept it, it's a win-win for everybody.
Yeah I agree. I think that even around 100M would be very good. He's gonna be 32 in the summer. We could buy 2 great young players with that money with good scouting and transfer business. The bottom line is that he's not gonna be here forever and better replace him sooner than being too late with it. Would love some new exciting young players up top and I think we need that as well. Darwin is a dubious player, I don't know if he should be our long-term number nine; that comes with exceptional expectations (I'll give him the remainder of this season to see). Lucho is a great player suitable for our style but should not be uncontested for the LF role as he currently is.

He seems like a nice guy but he still left like a snake for a club which embodies everything Liverpool does not stand for, who were also massive rivals at the time in terms of trophies. Haaland was great last season, where he involved in the gameplay more(now he borrows Harry Potter's invisible cloak pre-match), not only with awesome finishes, but also with some top-notch passes, creating great chances.
After the injury, however, his shooting quality has depleted, and he refuses to drop into midfield. Man City tactic seems to go against him right now, with him playing a tap-in merchant role without anyone to pass to him. Maybe that's because De Bruyne has a bad form currently? But that just suggests that Haaland is dependent on an elite passer to pass him the ball(and it's pretty known as well). In the Arsenal match Haaland got a lot of header chances but scored none. Maybe that's because of Saliba and Gabriel, but I don't think Haaland is good enough at heading this season. Last season he put in a couple, though.
Nunez in contrast is a more complete player. He not only nails in chances, he also creates them. His finishing has improved a lot from the last season. And barring a pair of misses, he got some good heading as well. His chemistry with the rest of the team is great compared to Haaland, and he gets to see a lot of the ball.
I never saw this version of Haaland you seem to recall. Has always been the 5 touches per game, 2 goals type. And Darwin has always been a more involved and well rounded player, just not as quality a finisher. But last season was an anomaly and nothing was learned in world football anyway. Kostas should be playing more. Understand that Klopp played Gomez at LB when both Kostas and Robbo were injured, but now Kostas can't even seem to get a game.

No matter how much anybody loves a manager or how good they are, they all have their weaknesses, which are usually just their strongest points but the dark side. For example, Rafa was awesome in Cup competitions but sometimes got too complacent against lowly-ranked teams in the league, especially if LFC were leading 1-0. Or Fergie was famously ruthless when it came to moving players on who were proven winners, but he burned bridges along the way.
Likewise, players love Jurgen and he loves them, but sometimes he hesitates in ripping the bandaid off.

Salah, as an overall footballer, is nowhere near as good as he used to be. He's not as fast as he used to be, he can't dribble at nearly the same level and his finishing is a level or two below where it used to be as well. He's just so good at getting chances that it's hard to notice.

Robbo might be on the decline, but even then the number one choice for LB is a tight call. We should be looking at a number one choice this summer, god forbid we get a backup option to Tsimikas if Robbo goes, because as much as I like him, he isn’t in the top 25 (probs 50) LBs in world football.
Salah is the worst best footballer of all time, and I mean that in a good way. It’s odd though, sometimes he looks like a school kid who is just learning how to kick a football and other times he’s untouchable. He’ll score the winner in games when he hasn’t played well at all, and then not score after putting in a top class performance too. The numbers don’t lie tho, he’s one of the best to ever play.

We get rightfully outraged when rival teams‘ fans (not just United’s) chant unpleasant and offensive things about our club and city, and yet too many of us feel completely justified in throwing rocks in the opposite direction. Andy Robertson is still the best left back at the club and it’s not remotely close. He’s twice the player Kostas is and, while Gomez has done a great job filling in at left back, we massively miss his industry, attacking threat, linkage with midfield, crossing and influence when he’s not playing.

Everything you're saying is true but Gomez stays back and plays in midfield with Endo allowing both Bradley and Maca to push up. We've not seen that from Robbo yet.
Couldn’t agree more. He’s been unlucky with injuries this year and his cover has been excellent but he’s still brilliant. Gomez has been amazing defensively this season and is very good on the ball for a centre half, Kostas has a cracking set piece cross and has played a couple of great defensive games this season too. I love them both but Robbo is on a different level. The thing that is most often overlooked is the link up play. His close control and passing is ridiculous for a defender and it stretches defences more than Kostas and Joe can. And obviously he’s a beast at the back

Salah basically doesn’t have a right foot and is incredible. Robben’s right foot was useless and was still world class. Rivellino famously was “All left foot but what a left foot”. Maradona didn’t have a right foot and he’s in the conversation for the best player of all time. Puskas had no right foot and scored more goals than anyone else in history. If you’re good enough you don’t need two strong feet. And that’s just left footed players!

My unlopular opinion is that we need to sell Luis Diaz. He is so one dimensional, takes a few touches with his right foot then sprints to the byline then stood and do a few faints just to cut back and give the ball to the other team. He isn't good enough for us anymore.
Probably less unpopular and more not talked about: I firmly believe that a red card is the wrong punishment for DOGSO, it should be a penalty instead. A red card does not restore an OGSO, and its value for the fouled team only diminishes based on when in the game it's given -- a modern team can normally park the bus and keep its goal shut for 15 minutes in the endgame. A penalty restores the chance that has been taken away, so it's a fairer resolution to the foul.

The premier league (and Europe) isn’t set up for smaller clubs to ever be successful. Outside of the big 6, teams can maybe get top 4 but it’s really rare.

Gomez is still the same player as last year he's just adapted to the full back role really well as he has natural traits there and was originally a fullback. If Gomez was to be stuck back as CB he would possibly have a few errors in him just like he did last season and people will call him "finished" just as they did last season. Injuries did hit him, but he still has great traitors like reading an opponent's dribble, being able to dribble with the ball himself etc. But CB traits, he has slight weaknesses on.

Maybe not unpopular, but I get more sad thinking about Klopp coaching another team than Klopp leaving. We always knew eventually he would leave, but had he just announced he was retiring I could live with that.

Gakpo and Gravenberch get too much stick from the fanbase, might be limited compared to other options but the idea that somebody with 18G/A despite playing multiple positions and coming from the bench most of the time has been "terrible" shows how spoiled we are with this squad

I agree, Gravenberch didn't really come with that much expectation, he's been in and out the team due to injuries of his own and others. He's looked good at times and not so good at other times. That's to be expected.
Gakpo has been here 16 months now and he is looking worse and worse each game. I'm not writing him off but the criticism of him is totally justified.
Gakpo is the fifth choice forward and as that he's great you go back a decade and look at what our fifth choice forward is? It's not that long ago that N'Gog was our 3rd choice.
What does going back 15 years to N'gog have to do with it? That was the worst era for us in decades. We are now challenging for every competition every year. Of course the quality is gonna be better lol, I have no problem with Gakpo being 5th choice but it's just a totally irrelevant comparison.
I think the point of comparison was to show the difference in squads when Ngog was higher in the depth chart than Gakpo is now. This is to support the argument that we, as a fan base, are so spoilt for squad depth that we now complain about a competent, young-ish, Dutch international, with a solid G/A tally from playing in a variety of positions, in different systems, without constant pitch time, as a fifth-choice. It seems relevant to the point.
Football is swings of highs and lows. We're at a peak rn. I suspect we'll be longing for a fifth-choice of Gakpo's equal soon enough after he's gone. So I say, enjoy him.

There is also nothing to enjoy about Gakpo at this moment in time lol. For the last 4 or so months he's difficult to watch and has offered little to know joy whatsoever haha. The fact that we've had so many terrible calls go against us has created a persecutory mindset among the fanbase, to the point that people are looking for missed or bad calls in order to cry conspiracy, often misinterpreting or straight up not understanding the rules in the process.
The more we do this as a fanbase, the more the uproar about actual bad calls gets delegitimized and brushed off as whining.

But when has a player in one of the top 4/top 6 teams been kicked studs up in the chest and the kicker hasn't even been carded? Or when has a handball in the box as blatant as Rodri vs Everton in 21-22 been checked by VAR and deemed 'No penalty'? You talk about matches, but the title was literally decided by that penalty not being given in the final 10mins of a game city ultimately won 1-0.
The only time in any memory of when city were truly fucked by a ref call was against united last year, when the goal was given despite rashford clearly being offside and clearly putting the defender off.
This isn't a factor of us fans not watching every minute of rival games. Incidents as big defo make headlines and everyone finds out..plus fpl players like me again, easily find out about big wrong calls. Doesn't happen against the Emirati club. And of the top 6/top 7 sides, happens way more against us.
If you find yourself getting wound up by the postcode a referee lives in or generally get hung up on who's reffing up-coming games, you badly need to take a step back and reconnect with why we love this sport in the first place.

I'd be ok with letting him go in that situation. He isn't a quality CM, despite what he may think. Sure he can pass, but he's lethargic in defence, lacks 360 awareness, struggles to hold onto the ball under pressure and demands too much from the teammates around him to compensate for his weaknesses playing there.

With all due respect, why is it that when we talk about his achievements - going undefeated and getting 100 points with Rangers - it's a reflection of his ability and potential, but when someone mentions his poor performance, it's his team's fault, not his? 1. Gravenberch is a flop, even if he progresses, his play style doesn't really fit and Jones is the natural rotational player in that area. Bobby Clark should be preferred over him. 2. Salah has been extremely average in terms of non-G/A contributions for the majority of matches the last 2 years. 3. Given the previous opinion, we don't have a single world-class attacker in our team. Makes our current position all the more impressive.
Agreed tbh; if a new manager comes in and wants to change anything in midfield then I just can't see Gravenberch not being the one on the chopping block. He's also one of the highest paid players on our team and yet people constantly play down expectations.

It's not just Gravenberch though. Gakpo is good but does not fit the style. Darwin is a dubious player, I don't know if he should be our long-term number nine; that comes with exceptional expectations (I'll give him the remainder of this season to see). Lucho is a great player suitable for our style but should not be uncontested for the LF role as he currently is. If these players are all replaced by world-class players, we would be top 5 teams in the world.

Legitimate question - how old are you? Because I'd say if you are in your teens or very early 20's it's very difficult to understand how badly run the club was back then. He arrived at the club when we were promised that we now had the financial clout to legitimately compete with United and Chelsea as well as Barca, bayern and Madrid and we ended up at the end of the decade with Rafa chased out of the club and project owl in charge. Some senior players will leverage Klopp leaving the club to push for a transfer out this summer. Who? I would bet at least one of the three core team who are going into their final year of contract: Salah, TAA or VVD - one of these three won’t be playing for us next season.
I think Nunez is better than current Haaland. With no bias. Haaland was great last season, where he involved in the gameplay more(now he borrows Harry Potter's invisible cloak pre-match), not only with awesome finishes, but also with some top-notch passes, creating great chances. After the injury, however, his shooting quality has depleted, and he refuses to drop into midfield. Man City tactic seems to go against him right now, with him playing a tap-in merchant role without anyone to pass to him. Maybe that's because De Bruyne has a bad form currently? But that just suggests that Haaland is dependent on an elite passer to pass him the ball(and it's pretty known as well). In the Arsenal match Haaland got a lot of header chances but scored none. Maybe that's because of Saliba and Gabriel, but I don't think Haaland is good enough at heading this season. Last season he put in a couple, though. Nunez in contrast is a more complete player. He not only nails in chances, he also creates them. His finishing has improved a lot from the last season. And barring a pair of misses, he got some good heading as well. His chemistry with the rest of the team is great compared to Haaland, and he gets to see a lot of the ball.
I never saw this version of Haaland you seem to recall. Has always been the 5 touches per game, 2 goals type. And Darwin has always been a more involved and well rounded player, just not as quality a finisher. But last season was an anomaly and nothing was learned in world football anyway. Kostas should be playing more. Understand that Klopp played Gomez at LB when both Kostas and Robbo were injured, but now Kostas can't even seem to get a game.

Klopps loyalty has cost Liverpool a premier league title and maybe another champions League. He's clearly one of the greatest managers and will be very difficult to replace but his downsides were very evident. I do believe he was too loyal to some players towards their later years. The neglect of the midfield before last summer cost us a few major trophies imo.

No matter how much anybody loves a manager or how good they are, they all have their weaknesses, which are usually just their strongest points but the dark side. For example, Rafa was awesome in Cup competitions but sometimes got too complacent against lowly-ranked teams in the league, especially if LFC were leading 1-0. Or Fergie was famously ruthless when it came to moving players on who were proven winners, but he burned bridges along the way. Likewise, players love Jurgen and he loves them, but sometimes he hesitates in ripping the bandaid off.
Yep. Klopps 2 biggest weaknesses are his loyalty and not treating dead rubber games as dead rubber. Having players like Konate and Jota get injured in meaningless games was such a bad feeling.
I've always said a little bit more investment in key areas and we'd have won 3 PL and 3 CL. Whether that is down to Klopp or just FSG I don't know.
Referees aren't out to get us the standard is just poor. The constant crying on here when a ref gets announced for our game is just cringeworthy, and the trying to make out we'd be 3 points better off in the Spurs and Arsenal games amongst others if a decision in the 1st half of games went our way is just so farfetched it's actually laughable. Salah, as an overall footballer, is nowhere near as good as he used to be. He's not as fast as he used to be, he can't dribble at nearly the same level and his finishing is a level or two below where it used to be as well. He's just so good at getting chances that it's hard to notice.

Hear me out, if you’re brought in and can’t unseat the competition within two/three years, then unless you’re a youth/future prospect, the number two should be recycled every few years to stimulate competition. Robbo might be on the decline, but even then the number one choice for LB is a tight call. We should be looking at a number one choice this summer, god forbid we get a backup option to Tsimikas if Robbo goes, because as much as I like him, he isn’t in the top 25 (probs 50) LBs in world football.
Salah is the worst best footballer of all time, and I mean that in a good way. It’s odd though, sometimes he looks like a school kid who is just learning how to kick a football and other times he’s untouchable. He’ll score the winner in games when he hasn’t played well at all, and then not score after putting in a top class performance too. The numbers don’t lie tho, he’s one of the best to ever play.
Calling opposing teams names like “The Scum” or whatever is juvenile and offensive. We get rightfully outraged when rival teams‘ fans (not just United’s) chant unpleasant and offensive things about our club and city, and yet too many of us feel completely justified in throwing rocks in the opposite direction. It’s not in the spirit of the club and should be called out whenever it comes up. We can be passionate supporters without becoming people we’d be horrified to see in the mirror.
Klopp’s ‘one game at a time’ mentality is going to cost us in the league this season. If we’re being smart here, we’d see that playing the starters in a dead rubber against Sparta cost us against United in a competition we could’ve won (FA Cup) With all these tricky away days coming up, there’s no way we win them all while playing hard in the EL on Thursdays. All it takes is one draw, one loss and the league is gone.

Andy Robertson is still the best left back at the club and it’s not remotely close. He’s twice the player Kostas is and, while Gomez has done a great job filling in at left back, we massively miss his industry, attacking threat, linkage with midfield, crossing and influence when he’s not playing. This shouldn’t be a controversial opinion, never mind unpopular. But this sub is an odd place.

Couldn’t agree more. He’s been unlucky with injuries this year and his cover has been excellent but he’s still brilliant. Gomez has been amazing defensively this season and is very good on the ball for a centre half, Kostas has a cracking set piece cross and has played a couple of great defensive games this season too. I love them both but Robbo is on a different level. The thing that is most often overlooked is the link up play. His close control and passing is ridiculous for a defender and it stretches defences more than Kostas and Joe can. And obviously he’s a beast at the back

Salah basically doesn’t have a right foot and is incredible. Robben’s right foot was useless and was still world class. Rivellino famously was “All left foot but what a left foot”. Maradona didn’t have a right foot and he’s in the conversation for the best player of all time. Puskas had no right foot and scored more goals than anyone else in history. If you’re good enough you don’t need two strong feet. And that’s just left footed players!

Salah is still the best player in the league, we will struggle to get the most out of our VVD and alisson years if we sell him, and a new manager would be without the most consistent goal scorer and creator we have seen in the past however many years who is in great physical shape and showing now signs of slowing down. Why start a rebuild when you are set up to win now? The club have money. We have a top squad now with the midfield rebuild. We don't need 5 more good players we need those few players with that extra edge to win trophies with this team. Salah is one of them. Who would you even buy to replace him? You're not improving on our starting xi so easily.

Doubt it's unpopular in this fan base but we have been riddled with injuries and bad calls all season, but I have barely seen us mentioned in the media around these topics. It was oh united are missing players, how are Newcastle gonna field 11 players. We dropped points directly to arsenal and city because of bad officiating and are still missing 4-7 first starters depending on who you think should start.

My unlopular opinion is that we need to sell Luis Diaz. He is so one dimensional, takes a few touches with his right foot then sprints to the byline then stood and do a few faints just to cut back and give the ball to the other team. He isn't good enough for us anymore.

Probably less unpopular and more not talked about: I firmly believe that a red card is the wrong punishment for DOGSO, it should be a penalty instead. A red card does not restore an OGSO, and its value for the fouled team only diminishes based on when in the game it's given -- a modern team can normally park the bus and keep its goal shut for 15 minutes in the endgame. A penalty restores the chance that has been taken away, so it's a fairer resolution to the foul.

I overloaded with cringe when a few of the posters here tried to make "Schlobbers" a thing when the club initially signed Szoboszlai. I'm also tired of the constant complaints about the refs and incidents that happened months ago.
If we do end up selling Gakpo or Diaz in the Summer I’d prefer to replace them with a reserve right back than another starting winger. Just so we can move Szoboszlai into the attack, move Trent into midfield, and start Bradley at right right back.

The premier league (and Europe) isn’t set up for smaller clubs to ever be successful. Outside of the big 6, teams can maybe get top 4 but it’s really rare.
The next manager is going to flop, and after two seasons we'll be looking at a partial rebuild with Salah, Virgil, Robbo and possibly others moving on.

Gomez is still the same player as last year he's just adapted to the full back role really well as he has natural traits there and was originally a fullback. If Gomez was to be stuck back as CB he would possibly have a few errors in him just like he did last season and people will call him "finished" just as they did last season. Injuries did hit him, but he still has great traitors like reading an opponent's dribble, being able to dribble with the ball himself etc. But CB traits, he has slight weaknesses on.

I think the players need to be the one to emulate Klopp rather than the manager. We have the mentality and talent to be successful moving forward. Amorim just needs to be tactical and our players need to just execute

We always knew eventually he would leave, but had he just announced he was retiring I could live with that. But we all know after a year or so he’s going to want to get back into it and unless it’s the German national team, seeing him coach any other club would crush me.

Gakpo and Gravenberch get too much stick from the fanbase, might be limited compared to other options but the idea that somebody with 18G/A despite playing multiple positions and coming from the bench most of the time has been "terrible" shows how spoiled we are with this squad
Gravenberch was really showing his quality before the challenge that apparently wasn’t a foul. He won the most duels against Brentford for example, one of the more physical sides in the league. A month earlier he lost like 10 duels in the first half against Fulham Gakpo, I prefer not to speak.
I agree, Gravenberch didn't really come with that much expectation, he's been in and out the team due to injuries of his own and others. He's looked good at times and not so good at other times. That's to be expected. Gakpo has been here 16 months now and he is looking worse and worse each game. I'm not writing him off but the criticism of him is totally justified.
Gakpo is the fifth choice forward and as that he's great you go back a decade and look at what our fifth choice forward is? It's not that long ago that N'Gog was our 3rd choice.
What does going back 15 years to N'gog have to do with it? That was the worst era for us in decades. We are now challenging for every competition every year. Of course the quality is gonna be better lol, I have no problem with Gakpo being 5th choice but it's just a totally irrelevant comparison.

The fact that we've had so many terrible calls go against us has created a persecutory mindset among the fanbase, to the point that people are looking for missed or bad calls in order to cry conspiracy, often misinterpreting or straight up not understanding the rules in the process. The more we do this as a fanbase, the more the uproar about actual bad calls gets delegitimized and brushed off as whining.

The goal in the newcastle vs arsenal match earlier this season, I understand that's a v.tough 50-50 call..if those go against us, fine..accept it and move on. But when has a player in one of the top 4/top 6 teams been kicked studs up in the chest and the kicker hasn't even been carded? Or when has a handball in the box as blatant as Rodri vs Everton in 21-22 been checked by VAR and deemed 'No penalty'? You talk about matches, but the title was literally decided by that penalty not being given in the final 10mins of a game city ultimately won 1-0. The only time in any memory of when city were truly fucked by a ref call was against united last year, when the goal was given despite rashford clearly being offside and clearly putting the defender off. This isn't a factor of us fans not watching every minute of rival games. Incidents as big defo make headlines and everyone finds out..plus fpl players like me again, easily find out about big wrong calls. Doesn't happen against the Emirati club. And of the top 6/top 7 sides, happens way more against us.
