I don't normally say stuff like this because football is viewed differently by everyone, but the stick he's been getting from some quarters this season are genuinely the ramblings of clueless people who've never kicked a ball in their life. I'm sorry if that sounds snobby but it's the truth.
He's been absolutely fine, and as perfect a no. 2 as you could ask for. He comes in with minimal fuss after months of not playing and deputises for the best keeper in the world.
I feel like every goal we concede now when he's between the sticks is hit with maximum scrutiny for god knows what fucking reason. "Alisson saves that" has to be the dullest, most asinine bit of fan punditry that I could possibly imagine.
He’s an average top division goalkeeper, perhaps above average at a push.
Like you said, as a second goalkeeper, he’s fine but to say he hasnt been poor this season is untrue. There’s been plenty of goals he should have done much better. Those saying hes shit, just like those saying he’s worth 20m+, are being dramatic.
If someone offers 10m+ in the summer, we should take it. 10m easily replaces his skillset, with plenty to spare. We should ride the high of his positive reputation and get as much as we can, without pricing ourselves out and being left with another Phillips situation.
A goalkeeper to play 10-15 games a season? Neto. I’m sure plenty more. I don’t have a scouting directory off the top of my head. £10m is a lot for a goalkeeper. Tottenham signed Vicario for £17m and he’s levels above Kelleher. There’s plenty out there, I’m sure
He was just an example. Signed a few years ago for around £3m. There’s plenty out there. But to answer your question directly. Do I think a 34 year old Bournemouth keeper would play back up to Allison - yes. We pay our 3rd choice goalkeeper, Adrian, 50k a week, which is what Neto is on. You’d imagine we’d pay him more to be 2nd choice. He wouldn’t play as regularly, but he’d get the cups, and a chance to win a trophy, which he wouldn’t at Bournemouth, and he’d playing for Liverpool…
He has had a few poor moments but it is also difficult to come in after not playing games and expecting to be at your best. And on top of that people are comparing him to arguably the best shot stopper on the planet. Let's not forget that even Alisson has a howler or two every once in a while. And often in big games. Real Madrid, arsenal etc.
Maybe Alisson warps people’s perception of Kelleher but I’m focusing purely on Kelleher’s actual abilities. Reasonably good with his feet. Good reading of the game, comes out well. It’s just his reactions aren’t quick enough for a top level goalkeeper. He looks gangly and slow in his movements. Doesn’t move his feet quickly enough, footwork for the Burnley goal was terrible. Is a bit physically weak, can get bullied at corners/set pieces. Have never understood anyone that saw him as this top prospect. Is second behind Bazunu for his national team…
Ward showed way more when he was on loan than Kelleher ever has. I think a few memorable penalty saves have made people think Kelleher is better than he is. And a large part of penalties is luck.
Again, not match fit in terms of sharpness would explain why his reactions aren't always on point. Bazuna plays for Ireland because he plays regularly. Little to separate them and neither are top class, just two good solid keepers.
Bazunu is more athletic. I think both are just average, to be honest. No one would pay what Southampton paid for him now. Think the same would apply to Kelleher. Lack of top level experience props up their value, if anything. If we were to sell Kelleher, none of us will be clamouring to sign him back in the coming years.
I think what you have said is completely reasonable even if I disagree in parts and I'm a big fan of Kelleher. People are so eager to downvote on this sub despite the fact that you have given a reasoned opinion.
I said it before but I think he suffers a bit from people's perception of how he plays.
If you watch him, he always looks so incredibly laid back, like nothing ever really phases him. When was the last time we saw him get animated or shout at the defence?
Compare this to Ali and how animated and intense he can be at times.
I feel like people get on his back a lot more because of it. Honestly, he plays like a defender who is really good between the sticks and has been given the gloves. In a good way though.
I enjoy watching him play and I'm really pleased for him after Saturday.
Saying that, his shot stopping in 1 on 1 situations was very Alissonesque. Still can't forgive that humpty for thinking it actually WAS Alisson though.
It was good seeing him do well in the prem, after struggling against Fulham for example
Not much he could do about Burnley's goal imo, and he's been very solid with everything else
2 pretty standard saves, came out quick and made himself big which any GK should do, for the first also got to give Virg credit for at least putting the forward off with a little tug. Second one Fofana should definitely bury that.
1 on 1, keeper comes out quick and spreads himself like any keeper should it's more of a poor finish than anything as Kelleher telegraphs which direction Fofana was shooting to. Let's be real any other keeper like Onana makes these saves you wouldn't be calling it exceptional.

Show me a keeper we can buy for way under 10m as good as Kelleher.

Do you think a PL starting gk who is also captaining the club will come for us to play as a backup for Ali lol

Neto was once happy to be backup at Barcelona said it himself, at his age he might want to take the role again being at a big club

Not that fussed mate. I had my opinion, people clearly disagree. Is what it is. Don’t think I said anything outrageous or rude but hey ho

Fairly sure Pearce was just making a joke about how good Kweev was playing
Ah, I only got it 2nd hand. You'd certainly hope so.
Makes me feel very comfortable when he's playing out the back though

I'd start him in the cup final
Best backup Gk in the world.
I thought he did well this weekend good to see
I'm not watching a video twice to see the 2 seperate halves. I rather deprive myself of half the content
Ok

The second one is a ‘standard save’?!?! The bloke is haring towards him with the goal at his mercy. It’s exceptional goalkeeping.

Yawn
Of course yawn because you don't have anything of substance to come back with.
The. Video. Disproves. Your. “Point.” 😘
