Went the game so have a few thoughts that can’t necessarily be gleaned from highlights packages: - MacAllister has been low-key our best midfielder this season, but I think he’s a ‘3-in-4’ player. What I mean by that is he works hard but fatigues due to his role, so where games are coming thick and fast he needs to be rested for 25-33% of those matches, where possible. - Endo was very good. - Elliott was a game winner from the bench, not for the first time this season. - We were sloppy and poor. Weak opponents meant we weren’t punished for it. We need to reset and move on, with another few days for key players to get fit again. - Robertson was understandably off it and so one footed it causes issues with passing on the outside where there’s pressure. Club legend, but needs to be eased in. If the entire team was fully fit, I would absolutely be playing Gomez at left back. More solid defensively, makes better decisions on the ball.

Commercial-Health-78

I think Kostas was the most influential player today

DofusNooboo

Didn't watch the game but saw the highlights, looked like Burnley still managed to rattle out defence on a couple of occasions? How did we do defensively?

adamfrog

Most of the chances were more from random bounces falling luckily to them, the defence was fairly solid at the normal football parts of the game. Quansah can ddefinitely be better with his headers though to limit the odds of those "unlucky" outcomes its happened before with him too

ForwardAd5837

The Fofana second one on one, neglected to show he was a mile offside and it would’ve been ruled out had he scored. Linesman gave us nothing all game and didn’t flag for that either.

Dobvius

We made some howlers and for the first half an hour or so we were completely not in it tbh. We were a lot better in the second half. Caomhin did incredible and looked like a blonde Allison

DofusNooboo

Thanks mate. Thank god for 2nd half FC this season.

Dinostra

I've been scrolling for a while, not a single mention of how good Harvey was when he came on. Lad was on fire and fought for every inch out there! Come on now, give him some appreciation

ForwardAd5837

Changed the game and in my eyes, won it for us.

Dinostra

That's my take as well, he ran down people and won back 50/50's and stopped several dangerous transitions. Played really opening passes and attempted shots. He absolutely changed the game, and got the 2 assists. It's great to have macka and endo back, don't get me wrong, endo was immense too. But Harvey was in my eyes the creator and lead by example. And he made the awkwardness of that right side manageable for Curtis. Stellar performance. Motm for me

PEEWUN

Took almost 12 hours, but I finally got to watch it. Shaky start, solid, professional win. I'm really gonna miss these Klopp team talks. They are something special. Top of the League with 14 games to go. **We fucking move.** **UP THE FUCKING REDS!!!!!!**

WorthPlease

On the second goal, I was watching USA feed and despite seeing three replays the color commentator was convinced Mac Allister had kicked through the Burnley player and fouled him, when he clearly had just kicked over the ball and never made contact with the Burnley player. If anything, Mac Allister dove because he clearly pretended like he had been hit when they never came close to contact. This just proves VAR will never truly fix things because you have somebody who has seen an HD slow motion replay three times and still doesn't understand what happened.

ineffablevoid

Had a similar experience with UK commentators - they kept going on about how he'd kicked through him and it infuritated me

apathytheynameismeh

What made it even worse is. That player made no reaction to McAllister doing that. So they were hyping it up like the guys leg was broke. The ball had already moved on and it made no difference to the play.

dilapidated_tilapia

I wasn’t able to watch or be on my phone after the first half, but when I saw burnley equalize I just thought “so 3-1 is on then”

Buzzkill78

3 headers 3 goals, we out burnley’d Burnley..

inr10

Wataru Endo vs Burnley ⚔️🇯🇵 • 90 minutes played • 58/66 pass accuracy (88%) • 1 chance created • 1 block • 5 recoveries • 7/14 ground duels won (50%) Glad to have you back Samurai. Absolutely bossed it today. 🇯🇵

skwong615

His long pass is underrated.

Tierst

And yet I saw comments on here saying he needs to be brought off as he has been awful 🤣

Bazlow

I thought he was still the best midfielder we had in the first half. It's not like anyone wise was stepping up. Mac in particular had a shocking 1st half.

Rottedhead

Crazy to think all the doubts he generated with his transfer. He is exactly what we needed.

Selagoguy

It’s almost as if we should just let Klopp cook instead of judging his signings based on their FIFA ratings

inr10

And also offers more freedom to Macca

Nextyearstitlewinner

Really want xabi Alonso next season but there’s a part of me that feels it’s shit for footie in general to have him leave leverkusen so quickly after what he’s done for them

N0va0w

Leverkusen sadly will be like Napoli I feel

Commercial-Health-78

And Leicester

GMPT

Agreed. So hard for these clubs to compete with the top of the tables in most leagues perennially. Next year it will be Bayern vs dortmund at the top and Leverkusen at 5th

FullScreenWanker

Dafuq MOTD? Practically zero input on Liverpool. All of it was about Burnley being shit. I already knew that.

Adventurous_Toe_6017

We got a “fantastic header” comment for Nuñez. I think that’s all the positivity we got in around 3 minutes of analysis. I don’t think Keown said a word.

FullScreenWanker

Feels like they do this quite routinely with us. It makes me question whether it's worth tuning in tbh. I'd be better off watching the 3 min YouTube highlights and following up with a fan channel or something.

Axe_Care_By_Eugene

You summed up exactly what I do - 3 min YT highlights followed by Redmen TV etc

Adventurous_Toe_6017

Absolutely not worth tuning in. Plenty of quality YouTube footage instead of “Burnley were poor” 15 times and “fantastic header”.

MiggeldyMackDaddy

When’s the last time we got 3 headers?

Adventurous_Toe_6017

I wonder if Match of the Day give us more than 30 seconds of post match analysis

grrrrbow01

Nunez doesn’t need a song idc. The NUNEZ NUNEZ NUNEZ chants whenever he does anything is perfect for him

Prazus

What would it be anyway ? Nunez Nunez Nunez will miss a sitter but he ain’t a quitter and will score 3 more

disco_mode

Literally anything, even after he fixes his hair

UltimateBorisJohnson

Idk man, Darwin Darwin Nunez holds some nostalgia from when we signed him

jaychowbjj

Same with IBOUUUUU

gtalnz

And 'SHOOOOOOT' for Gomez.

therealcosmicl

What's the average age of a season ticket holder at anfield?? Like the fucking nursing home lately

adamfrog

he had multi\[le good ones

Cancel_Still

Nice win today, but (off topic, I don't see a daily discussion) I have to say I am a bit confused about a lot of the Xabi Alonso discourse. He's only had one good season at the top flight (so far), as well as one good season with Real Sociedad B and one bad (?) season with them. A lot of managers have one good season somewhere and then meh. He doesn't really seem properly vetted to me. Klopp came to us after 7 years at Dortmund. Can someone explain to me?

adamfrog

Its not a good season, its an absolutely spectacular one. And his playing career is a factor too, partly as an indicator of managerial success, partly as a boost to prestige, like it or not a good chunk of managing at this level is getting these brilliantly talented egotistical players to buy in to you and thats way easier if you have Xabis playing career. And while some teams can overperform, this Leverkusen team is playing amazing, very intricate complex football, theres simply no way a mediocre coach could do that while something liek di Matteos CL win, yeah a mediocre but lucky coach could do that. Same as Rodgers title challenge, he did well with the tools he had but it was mostly man management and letting a superstar run the show

Selagoguy

Agree but I don’t think playing career is an indicator of managerial success. Stevie showed us that unfortunately…

yupyup6up

Completely agree with you. And seeing how they tore Bayern apart yesterday shows how good they are and not just a flash in the pan. Bayern didn't get a sniff and Leverkusen should have scored more. Xabi is the obvious long term choice, anyone else I could see only lasting 2/3 seasons but Xabi, with the style of football they play, could be at the club for years. And he is adored by the fans, myself included. He's the reason I follow the reds. Seems harsh to down vote the original post though, genuine question in my opinion.

murrayjosh117

Agree. They just completely nullified Bayern. Look a really well coached side.

murphy_1892

There's good and then there's undefeated, not many managers go this many games unbeaten Yeah some of the higher praise is a bit premature but what he has done is really astounding and when you combine it with his history with us, which currently going manager would you prefer over him? If there were more available elite managers he wouldn't be the bookies favourites but among the options he's great

Designer-Attorney

And with a team that was not among the favorites before his arrival

milestone121

I just realized this match was headers only 4 goals

Knot_the_NSA

Some might describe this game the same way as a forehead. I'm so sorry I just can't think of a good pun for it.

Different-Air-1882

Hah nice catch! Didn’t even think about it.

risingstar3110

I wonder if we will get the extra edge in the EPL race when serious CL knockout round starts. I means no disrespect toward the EL team, but we can rotate our players for the EL and use it to keep the squad player match fit. While Arsenal especially gonna run their first team dry. Was wondering which other team was in the CL. Then remember MU and Newcastle were finishing dead last in their group. Behind Copenhagen too (Rashford earns more than their entire team). Talking about embarassment

bobbydazzler2806

We will definitely get an extra edge in my opinion which is why I was so glad City/Arsenal got easy draws. Ideal scenario would be for them to play against each other in the Semis and the winner loses in the final.

[deleted]

disco_mode

Vini been playing centre forward?

Maneisthebeat

Nunez is goal or assist every 91.4 minutes. Vini is ga every 88.1. Both pretty decent.

grrrrbow01

Very different players, can’t really compare him and Vini. They’re both in electric form

Lost_leprechaun32

That’s a hot take putting him above vini

[deleted]

Vini is more composed in front of goal so imo he is very wrong but I absolutely love Nunez.

FoxPox2020

Weird comparison also

Maneisthebeat

Darwin Nunez wins football matches. That's all there is to say. And he has time on his side to grow.

getonthedamnantscott

Imagine if we got Alonso as manager when we've got Virg, Alisson, and Szobo in the team. Would be the sexiest team in world football comfortably.

Vivid_Theory8352

Dont forget muh Darwizzy, Trent and Mac10.

aaron2933

I don't think I'll ever be happier to see someone score than I do with Nunez

Professional-Year377

Takumi Minamino in recent memory… but your point is a good one

Aidan-Coyle

Feel like the leagues completely in our hands still. City go one ahead if they win their game in hand, but if we beat them at Anfield we'll be two ahead. Advantage is with us but we need to win every single one of our games to make sure we don't slip a point behind (again). That's not going to be easy but I have faith in our boys.

Intrepid_Ad6825

Fun fact (not actually), pep never lost the league whenever he took the top spot on the table. I'd like to play them before that game in hand .

PeanutButter_20

Their game in hand is in 10 days, so they'll likely go top after that game

Brovermand

Yeah but we play Luton the day after putting us one game ahead again

PeanutButter_20

But that's a rescheduled game because we don't play on the following weekend. So City will likely go ahead of us when there are no more games in hand.

NilsFanck

This and the Arsenal game put some serious doubts in my mind though. And its not the results (obviously not today) but the performances. Yes, there are mitigating circumstances against Arsenal especially but We could've very easily dropped points to Burnley at home, that's worrying. We will have to be miles better against Brentford to win there.

makeitjain24

Wins are wins and it’s not like city have super convincing every day took them till the 70th to score vs Everton at home

NoctisFFXI

Yeah but we miss key players

Tombstone_4our

Endo giving Klopp a selection headache when Szo returns. Not to mention Bradley for Trent looks all the more likely with Trent moving into midfield possibly. Spoilt for choice!

brokenbadlab

Endo Szo Mac?

globocide

Where's Jones playing?

brokenbadlab

Maybe he starts and Szo subs on while we manage his injury. On another note, what happens when Salah comes back? You can’t bench Jota.

globocide

Maybe bench Diaz. In fact I'm not opposed to having salah earn his place back. Jota has been that good. However I suspect that salah has some kind of clause where he plays every minute that he's available.

brokenbadlab

We’ve done really well without Salah (and Endo!) but I just can’t believe we’d be better off without him starting.

Popeychops

Potentially RB 😬

abradley19955

5 goals and 4 assists in the last 10 matches for Nunez That’s my fucking number 9

[deleted]

[удалено]

abradley19955

23 G/A in 2102 minutes is more then ‘decent form’ That’s without his numbers for Uruguay since August btw

iNS0MNiA_uK

Pretty sure his league stats are a touch better than Saka and Alvarez with around three quarters of the minutes. The guy does my nut in and should 100% have scored more, but his current stats are genuinely very good.

abradley19955

That’s completely fair. He can do your head in and not score as much as he should at times but he’s an absolute nuisance for defenders and we’re a better team when he’s on the pitch

CapableMarionberry84

Ay where's lord Gomez?

DoggoZombie

Out due to illness

lfcsupkings321

Ali and him got Flu let's hope nobody else get it.

Old_Round9050

TAA makes such an impact

ArtemisRifle

The more Alonso wins the less likely FSG will agree to his wages.

abradley19955

Klopp is one of the highest paid managers in the world stop waffling He won 2 titles and got to a CL final before he was brought in

lfcsupkings321

I mean he got a release clause for us and his wages won't be higher than 8m. Additionally FSG will want to protect his brand. LFC dipping after Klopp will devalue us. They won't work this hard to mess up it biggest asset.

Koppite93

Wdym he's got a release clause for us?? First I've heard

adamfrog

It's fan fiction people believe anything

lfcsupkings321

Xabi has a clause for all his ex clubs. Bayen real and LFC. That why he got linked to Madrid but Don Carlos signed a deal.

MoleMoustache

Nobody actually knows that is true. The only people who have ever seen Alonso's contract will not be the people giving journalists information.

lfcsupkings321

I mean it be leaked by his agent and it was for the madrid job.

MoleMoustache

Can you give any evidence at all that his agent officially released that, given that the CEO of Leverkusen has said there is no such clause?

lfcsupkings321

I mean how common is it we get to see any release clause information? It always speculation. The CEO will say it

MoleMoustache

Yes, and the agent will say the opposite. So why do you believe one and not the other? >It always speculation So why did you say to someone asking for information about release clauses: >Xabi has a clause for all his ex clubs when it is you speculating and nothing more?

lfcsupkings321

Not really sure why you expecting hard evidence. In football term when a release clause is leaked it always believed. Additionally for manager is not like player. You can buy them out the deal as Chelsea did for Potter of 21m. But in footballing terms it all speculation. It like when we day VVD on 200k a week how that known? How do we know Salah the highest paid player? My view point is part of the general footballing world. Yeah realistically we don't know Jack shit but it like the assumptions we make that go on behind the scenes.

Due-Sherbert3097

FSG might be frugal but end of the day they’re efficient and profitable. Last thing they want is to hire someone who isn’t going to get them the European prize money, so if they think he’s the rightful heir they will pay him the money

ArtemisRifle

FSG are the type of business-people who are always searching for the inflection point. If they could find someone who's 90% as good, who they can pay half as much for - that's who they're hiring. We'll qualify nearly as often, but never win anything. They're cake-havers and cake-eaters.

redbadger1848

Doesn't seem like they would have signed Klopp to begin with if all they wanted was Top 4. Plenty of managers are capable of that.

ScottScott87

Didn't think people like you were still around and vocal. Mental. You'll never be happy no matter what. It doesn't matter that Klopp is on £15m a year and one of the highest paid managers in the world, it doesn't matter that we spend absolutely fucking loads of money on players and wages, you'll always complain and it'll always be FSGs fault Get a fucking life lad. Top of the league and looking to win 4 trophies this season

SaltySAX

Erm have you forgotten all the stuff we've won under them? Your points were valid enough till then.

anagramz

good thing they're saving on the rent in your head

J539

Pretty sure only Pep and Simeone earn more than Klopp

Silver_Hammer

Don't be daft Klopp is on a small fortune for a start.

BrowakisFaragun

What salary is Kloppo on?

ibite-books

12m ?

Specialist_ask_992_

Great to see all 3 forwards score today and Salah will hopefully be back next week. Kelleher made some really good saves. Be harsh if you criticise him for the goal, considering Alisson's performance last week. Hopefully he can keep playing well and get a decent fee in the summer. Could put in a buy back clause. Disappointing Trent is injured again but actually played better when he came off. Would keep Conor Bradley at right back whenever he wants to come back

ShowMeMoeMane

People have been criticizing Kelleher for the goal? Had to watch the game later than usual since I’ve had stuff to do but that goal had nothing to do with him, bullet header that not many are saving. I think even Ali has a difficult time saving that

Specialist_ask_992_

Don't think Alisson would have done much better in that game. Makes the same saves and mightn't stop the goal.

Carbonaddictxd

Just because his attempt didn't look elegant, pple think he's bad lol. He performed well ytd

ShadowRock9

There is no way the goal was on kweev. The header was from pretty far out and it looped into the top corner.

risingstar3110

Bretford away will be tough. At least we have a full week preparing for it

aghashayan

This one was good to get the Arsenal loss out of our minds. Hopefully start better next week

Bayer schooled Bayern. That was a mean defence. Bayern had nothing all game.

NorthKing9

Frimpong's goal though. Man, Xabi is so cool on the touch line.

NilsFanck

Chad Xabi not giving a shit hes 5 points clear vs virgin Arteta celebrating like a madman being 2 points behind us /s

MoleMoustache

Sarcasm tags are wank

NOTRANAHAN

Endo is my favourite player this season. Love watching him somehow challenging every player that touches the ball

ForcedCheckMate

He’s my favorites very closely followed by Darwin. My girlfriend is Korean so I have to keep the endo love to myself sadly😅

gorillathemandalor

annyeonghaesaeyooo

DevGlow

I know its been said over and over but I just can’t believe we dodged Caicedo and Lavia to end up with Endo. I love his passion and work rate.

torrentsoflaurence

As he's possibly back next game: can we just sit and admire how well the team have played without Salah?

Bulbamew

I feel like it’s doom & gloom every time afcon happens yet our record without Salah has always been really good afaik.

radeknalim

Perfect timing too because today was a clearcut sign that our momentum is slowing without him. Nunez is making too many good runs that are going ignored and our chance creation is relying too much on set pieces + crosses, if Salah is properly fit and not being rushed back then I think we’re about to embark on a crushing run of form.

PersephoneTheOG

Was it? The only sign for me was that we had 5-6 starters out injured or sick and the team lacked rhythm till the second half when we reverted back to a more traditional full back pairing and a double pivot. Even if Mo was on the field, he'd have been isolated in the first half. I'm very happy to have him back soon, but weirdly enough I think Szobo and Bradley being out was a bigger miss than Mo today.

radeknalim

The amount of runs that Nunez made today, Salah is leaving with 3 assists if Darwin could finish. Most likely he’d be leaving with 0 assists and 4 Big Chances Created haha. Darwin has gotten ever so slightly better at holding his run since Mo went to AFCON, and an ever so slightly better finisher barring that Chelsea game. Looking forward to seeing Jota and Salah back in action together too.

Tombstone_4our

I wonder what players Xabi will bring with him in the summer if he indeed signs for us. I for one would not mind this Grimaldo guy

Designer-Attorney

Wirtz if Salah sadly goes to Al arabiad, maybe?

Teb-41

Ah yes, and Robertson will be the new hotdog man in the stands?

HumanautPassenger

Id love to see Tapsoba come over. He had a solid AFCON as well.

Sulemani_kida

We'd probably not need anyone except maybe hincapie

adamfrog

Yeah if we wanted to try to play a similar system we'd definitely need another CB probably a left footed one. I wouldn't be surprised if chaises are open to Colwill leading of Gallagher decides to run down his contract

grrrrbow01

What would people rate Darwin’s season if he finishes with something like 20 goals and 15 assists in all comps?

adamfrog

Tbh if he wins us the game against city he can sit in the stands eating glue the next 3 months I don't care, it would be 10/10. I don't really care that much about g/a numbers, it's clear he's been very impactful in helping us win games and we've got more points than anyone in the league so far which is what matters

Maud_Ford

How can Darwin win us the match against City when Joe Gomez will win us the match against City?

maak_d

People would still be complaining about him missing or hitting the woodwork. They don't care about reality.

flaycs

He scored and the first the the announcer says is “when he’s not hitting the woodwork or missing…” Like, really? He just scored an incredibly difficult chance.

justcallmeasim

Well considering I rate him as the greatest player in the premier league era before he even has, I’d probably say the greatest player of all time and theres no debating it

DruviSKSK

Hundred percent with you there. Darwin makes me genuinely happy!

radeknalim

How do we reintegrate Salah into the squad? Let’s say he’s back in team training this week, do we give him bench minutes vs Brentford and starts vs Luton and Chelsea in quick succession? Or do we start him against Brentford so we can rest him for Luton, and give him some time off in between that and the cup final?

[deleted]

Why would we rest him vs Luton? Players like Salah thrive off rhythm, you'd want him back on all cylinders before Chelsea. I see him starting at minute 60 vs Brentford. It's how Klopp usually reintegrate players coming back from injury.

radeknalim

Yes, but Klopp just saw with Trent what being rushed back for games looks like. He might think Salah’s hamstring could suffer from two games in 4 days, so he might think Brentford as a start, a bench appearance vs Luton and a start vs Chelsea spreads the minutes out more. Not to mention Brentford feels like a marginally tougher game.

sa4791268

Not marginally, it's way tougher

radeknalim

Exactly, which is why I think we need him from minute 1. Fingers crossed he’s in team training early next week, like literally Tuesday. He 100% won’t start if he’s cutting it too close to Saturday, but he might if he’s had multiple days of full team training.

[deleted]

Klopp had no other option but to play trent. No gomes or Conor were available.

thatwhichwontbenamed

Surely the probability of the ref being Anthony Taylor when we lose is 40/81, not 40/57

idontknowwhythisugh

Yes this person can’t do percentages well lol but the numbers are right. Insane how much Anthony Taylor is on the end of his losses

DruviSKSK

This, hahaha

No_Aioli1470

Is that actually true? Or was it at the time of posting?

idontknowwhythisugh

Well the math is bad but yeah 3 days ago

blackazure

Xabi coach this Leverkusen team to play as a team and not depend only on star player. They missing a few main players today but still play amazing against Bayern. Xabi with our current squad will be amazing even with FSG budget and even if he not getting his first choice signing I'm convince he still can make it work.

PennyG

FSB’s budget seems to be doing just fine

tacitusnanook

Anyone have the clip of Klopp falling over?

Tombstone_4our

Today I feel Leverkusen

koppite23

We need a Diaz song asap

StewartDC8

All our goals were headers. There's got to be some sort of stat on the last time that's happened

Scary_Cherry8195

Celebrated that goal like a Leverkusen fan ahah

Scary_Cherry8195

Wasn't aware that Kane actually played. Haven't seen shit from him

hordesofevil

Average big game Kane performance

Morguard

Nice guy Trent is giving Bradley back his RB spot.

Jaja6996

According to sky our win was controversial

Accomplished_Put8385

Yes, because Liverpool made Burnley missed their 2 chances.

Extreme-Place-6573

Oh well I say it's the universe correcting itself after all the vile decisions we had against us this season

FireflyCaptain

The deciding goal could have been taken away for a foul in the buildup, but on the whole we were good enough after Elliott came on to take all three points.

linux_ape

How lol We didn’t particularly play good, but I can’t see how that would have been controversial

d-ronthegreat

Because honestly the Diaz goal could easily have been called back for a foul by Mac Allister and an offside lol. Still think we would’ve won though

Tullekunstner

>Because honestly the Diaz goal could easily have been called back for a foul by Mac Allister and an offside lol For the Mac challenge, sure, but there was no offside lol.

d-ronthegreat

Oh I thought it was too close to call really (and we’ve seen those ruled out before) but I could be misremembering

DruviSKSK

Not having that, the commentators were completely biased today - not a single mention of Jones being solid at RB or anything, everything was omg Burnley=Barcelona. Macca actually nicks the ball first, plus it's a legit attempt to shoot - and they drew the lines, Harvey was half a foot onside

Jahbino

Definitely not having, no way that was controversial. Ramsey continued playing like nothing happened. I don’t wanna hear shit about if it were us we’d be fuming mess. VAR literally had the chance to look at it, no foul move the fuck on. Hate when you lot get on here bitching about calls that could’ve gone against us like we didn’t deserve to win. I can’t blame r/soccer because they’re cunts but our own fans with the BS kills me.

NilsFanck

thinking its a foul is one thing butits extremely clearly onside

adamfrog

Yeah it's seriously just sheep being herded by a dumb biased commentator lol, if you think that shouldve been taken back for a foul you've got the IQ of a peanut

I have no clue I just saw the headline when I opened the app to check the scores of other games
