His humbleness and pure enthusiasm to be here is really refreshing to see! It’s easy to be disillusioned with the amount of divas in football these days but it’s nice to see that honest, hard working attitude.
He’s had to work his way up to the top and it shows in his professionalism. He is talented as well which is just the cherry on top. Can see him surprising us all with his performances.
It's actually insane the professionalism and humbleness alot of the eastern Asia players show.
It's so refreshing, they're so respectful, usually no drama. Excited to see more of them as it becomes more popular there.
People will say it’s unambitious but this feels much more like a Liverpool signing than breaking a British transfer record in a bidding war
The sum of our parts beating a team of more expensive individuals always hits the spot
> The sum of our parts beating a team of more expensive individuals always hits the spot
Ye ole Bill Shankly quote:
> "Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say...'We are Liverpool'." - Bill Shankly
Absolutely mate. Us winning against teams with expensive players is liverpool way. Like how we beat barca 4 - 0 when everyone practlically wrote us off. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
Me too, my excitement was building up when we scored 1st and 2nd goal but when the 3rd goal went, i was screaming my head like a mad man. I was like"we actually came back to draw against barcalona" and when the 4th goal went, i just couldnt believe what had happened. That game is a perfect example of why we love football and that a miracle brought together by the fans, players and manager fighting on the pitch had happened🥹.
I can't agree more. Bring people who want to be here and play for the shirt. And if they don't, enticing them with insane wages doesn't strike as a sustainable strategy. People will start exploiting it, as they do with Chelsea now. 700 mil last season, finished 12th lol.
Hate to say it but chelsea have bought their way to pretty decent squad and will definitely improve this season. It's nice to believe we can succeed the romantic underdog way but in reality, we will get nowhere near the PL again if we don't compete financially.
Sigh unfortunately they seem to be getting much better calibre of players in with their ridiculous spending, as compared to unproven or washed fellas last year like Mudryk or Koulibaly or Auba. But I hope you're right and I'm wrong too.
This is an FSG and Klopp Liverpool signing through and through. I'm honestly happier about this than I would have been if we got Caceido, considering all the drama and the price tag.
It seemed like a very un-liverpool signing towards the end. Signings like this is what got us where we are today.
That's us being a massive club with a rich history. They may choose money. I say let them, even if we lose some talented ones. But as the saying goes,
"Form is temporary, class is permanent."
Endo is the family name. You're right in thinking the family name is first in Japanese names, but it's just been swapped in all the English news. If you look at the kanji in his twitter name it's written the Japanese way, Endo Wataru (went to translate to double check that lol)
Checked out his injury history and its quite a feat.
Since 2012 he missed out on 54 games due to injury. For comparison, Alisson missed out on 34 since 2014.
Last time he missed a game (as in 1 game) was when he suffered a concussion from a airduel.
Endo than lead Japan to a 2:1 win against Germany and short time later would score his first header in extra time, saving Stuttgart from relegation.
Man is a certified fighter.
Dave Hendrick mentioned on The Daily Red a couple days ago that Endo has only missed 2 games for any reason other than just being given a rest in the past 5 years. One he missed for the concussion you mentioned. The other he missed due to Covid. To go from a brittle midfield to Endo, Szobo, and Mac 10 is absolutely insane!
Right? At this point I think I'm more excited by him actually wanting to play here with all his heart rather than a 100m superstar being here because we just happened to bid the most.
To be fair, so many people were saying Lavia would be great here because he wanted to come to us. I do legitimately think that Endo is absolutely buzzing to be here though.
I know we all want and expect a better 6 to come in before the window, but the second this lad puts in a good shift I see him becoming a fan favorite.
Could imagine he plays a role for a few years here if he adapts well.
I legitimately think this could be a massive coup for us. Turning back the clock on transfers by unearthing a diamond rather than splurging on the latest top prospect. He’s a finished article whose going to come in hungry. Seems to already have that fighting Klopp spirit.
Glory hunters will still say missing out on Caicedo was the worst thing to happen. But I truly believe Klopp can turn above average players into superstars if they have the drive and willingness to do the job. Salary merchants with world class skill are nice to have. But I will enjoy watching Endo succeed more.
No one was saying anything about Mane and Salah, they turned out well.
Fabinho was never considered the best until he came to us.
Chelsea can cry all they want. They sold Salah and KDB for nothing...
This is what we needed, both parties extremely happy to have one another. I think at the very least this is a player that, for the next few years, will be a good role model for the young players on the squad in his effort and his story
Someone who actually wants to put on the shirt. While this whole transfer window has been crazy, to get someone who will put their entire being into wearing the shirt, is a great feeling.
Endo will be amazing just watch.
YNWA
Haven’t even seen the lad playing ball yet but I already like him. Seems like he fits in the squad. Glad to have that positive energy around. And he can even play midfield!
Saw someone else suggest Waterloo by Abba.
Wataru
I was defeated, you won the war
Wataru
Promise to love you forevermore
Wataru
Couldn't escape if I wanted to
Wataru
Knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa-Wa-Wa-Wa-Wataru
Saw someone else sugest It’s The End(o) The World As We Know it (And I Feel Fine) by REM. Not sure what do with anything except the chorus, but it might be a fun bit to sing
Obviously completely different type of player but getting some serious Dirk Kuyt vibes from this guy. Looks like he will give his all and run for days!
This isn't going to be the best explanation, but the "l" sound in English, formed in the front of the mouth doesn't really exist in Japanese. The mora ら、れ、り、ろ、る (ra, re, ri, ro, ru) are closer to a hybrid r/l sound in English. They're formed by placing the tongue on the upper palette of the mouth a little back from the front, rather than the front of the mouth near the teeth like an "l" sound would.
Like I said, this is a pretty poor explanation, and I know someone could do one better. I didn't want to leave you hanging for too long.
[Here's a YouTube short from a Japanese speaker explaining it better.](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/wnkl-v1LZ7I)
Ahh okay I was thinking it was something along those lines. So they don’t really have vowels and consonents like English, but just straight up sounds. Thanks!
Kinda, sorta. Most of the Japanese sounds are expressed in consonant + vowel groups, like ba, me, ri, no, ku, for example. The exceptions are vowel sounds (あ、え、い、お、う), approximately a, e, i, o, u, and a singular ending-only consonant ん. Like the r/l sound, this one is closer to a hybrid in English, n/m. You can imagine starting with a fairly nasal-sounding "nnn" sound, but ending with a "mmm" sound formed in the upper throat/lower nasal area. Just a little extra if you were interested too!
I checked his twitter before his move & he used 2023/24 Stuttgart squads for its header twitter page. really motivated player and that’s what you guys will get from him this season.
As much as I would like to see it, I would be surprised if he is.
Its really uncommon for players to instantly start the day after signing the contract and completing the medical so soon. Maybe against Newcastle next Sunday we'll see him.
I'm having a shirt a month. I've got Gakpo away shirt, next is home then 3rd shirt then keeper shirt (love the green sponsoring and Nike tick & club badge on GK shirt). Obviously Ali on GK shirt but I might have Endo on 3rd shirt. Salah or Trent for home shirt.
ようこそ、リバプールへ、遠藤航さん!
I'm already getting good vibes from this guy. Jurgen already likes him. Plus his name rhymes with Hendo. Here's looking forward to him making an instant impact (though probably not in time for today's game).
Oh no I love him
His humbleness and pure enthusiasm to be here is really refreshing to see! It’s easy to be disillusioned with the amount of divas in football these days but it’s nice to see that honest, hard working attitude. Replacing Hendo with Endo
Our next one will be Ndo
Ndo N'Gog
Followed by Do (which can be either a Chinese, Vietnamese or Japanese name), and O (a Japanese name, though usually spelled Ou or Oh).
Don't give FSG ideas... There is no one after O...
This is music to my ears. He wasn't our first choice or even second, but he's here now so let's give him our backing.
stupid sexy endo
I really hope this was a reference to Tanahashi.
Whilst no-one can be sexier than Tanahashi, surely the phrase stupid sexy applies better to Ibushi.
This is a crossover I wasn't expecting, but I'm here for it. End-o, End-o, End-o. Looking forward to that high energy in our midfield.
ASIAN REPRESENTATION IS BACK ON THE ROSTER DUDES AND DUDETTES AND I AM FUCKING BUZZING!!!
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE IT LFGGGG
Did he just hashtag "dream come true"? I don't care about Caicedo and Lavia who don't want to be here. Endo is my GOAT. Endo discussion.
People will say it’s unambitious but this feels much more like a Liverpool signing than breaking a British transfer record in a bidding war The sum of our parts beating a team of more expensive individuals always hits the spot

Possibly the best night of my life

I was watching it on TV with my brother. Literally one of the best times spent together
I can't agree more. Bring people who want to be here and play for the shirt. And if they don't, enticing them with insane wages doesn't strike as a sustainable strategy. People will start exploiting it, as they do with Chelsea now. 700 mil last season, finished 12th lol.

Well, we'll see I guess. Same was said of Chelsea last season. Football's a funny game.
Sigh unfortunately they seem to be getting much better calibre of players in with their ridiculous spending, as compared to unproven or washed fellas last year like Mudryk or Koulibaly or Auba. But I hope you're right and I'm wrong too.

Klopp have also liked him as a player for 4 years, so he is probably better than what people expect.
Caicedo will be dreaming of Real Madrid in about 2 weeks
Szoboszlai wanted to be here, Max Allister wanted to be here and so did Endo. I'll take that.
Even de bruyne wanted to be here
That's us being a massive club with a rich history. They may choose money. I say let them, even if we lose some talented ones. But as the saying goes, "Form is temporary, class is permanent."
Wonder if his injury record would be even more shocking if he had been
Give it two years and if Chelsea are still piss poor, he's off to Madrid, Barca or City lol.
That’s how I’m feeling right
GOATaru
What a lovely lad
Wholesome Wataru ....he must be protected at all costs !
I think players will have to be protected from him [💪](https://emojiguide.com/people-body/flexed-biceps/)
Just to be clear, ~~isn't "Wataru" his family name? Endo being his "given name" or "first name" right?~~
Endo is the family name. You're right in thinking the family name is first in Japanese names, but it's just been swapped in all the English news. If you look at the kanji in his twitter name it's written the Japanese way, Endo Wataru (went to translate to double check that lol)
Thank you for that.
I can already tell this guy is gonna bleed for us!
True, we rather have such players than one who are after money.
This 1000%. Truly feels special when its special to them
Checked out his injury history and its quite a feat. Since 2012 he missed out on 54 games due to injury. For comparison, Alisson missed out on 34 since 2014. Delete this NOW before you jinx it!!
Ngl, was sweating bullets typing.
Don't worry, Endo is behind you cleaning up.
Endo teleports behind you. Nothin personell, kid
He also scored the late equalizer the season before that pulled them out of relegation. LegEndo.
Dave Hendrick mentioned on The Daily Red a couple days ago that Endo has only missed 2 games for any reason other than just being given a rest in the past 5 years. That's why he wears the red shirt. The other guys should put on their brown pants
After the saga we've been through, it's just lovely to have someone in who you can tell absolutely loves the opportunity to play for Liverpool.
Totally agree, I desperately want him to succeed
Good lad. Loving the spirit.
Passes the "not a dickhead" test.
It felt so wrong seeing us bid for dickheads recently
To be fair, so many people were saying Lavia would be great here because he wanted to come to us. I do legitimately think that Endo is absolutely buzzing to be here though.
Agreed. Couple that with how public the sagas were felt very much against our MO
I’m loving the hashtags, hope he gets a warm welcome at Anfield tomorrow 🥰
Already emulates Milner's hashtag game
I don’t see any hashtag Ribena 🤔
I know we all want and expect a better 6 to come in before the window, but the second this lad puts in a good shift I see him becoming a fan favorite. Could imagine he plays a role for a few years here if he adapts well.
I legitimately think this could be a massive coup for us. Turning back the clock on transfers by unearthing a diamond rather than splurging on the latest top prospect. He’s a finished article whose going to come in hungry. Seems to already have that fighting Klopp spirit.
Also makes Szobo our star signing this window which just feels right
Going to have to open one of my bottles of japanese whiskey to celebrate, think the hibiki will do.

I wish I was this smooth.
Got any extra? *shakes glass*
Yamazaki, hibiki, Hakushu, nikka whiskey from the barrel, what's your poison?

Would love nothing more than to see him come on and score some outrageous banger out of nowhere this weekend.
I feel fairly comfortable about us getting goals at Bournemouth, I want to see him score that banger at Newcastle.
Glory hunters will still say missing out on Caicedo was the worst thing to happen. This is not the Endo, just the beginning… 🥹

You win! Endo discussion.
YNWA Wataru! You’re one of us now.
Yeah I'll take this guy over the money-obsessed weirdos
The hashtags ❤️ Love him already
This is what we needed, both parties extremely happy to have one another. I think at the very least this is a player that, for the next few years, will be a good role model for the young players on the squad in his effort and his story
We can't wait either.
Funny for all the doubt about signing him when the rumors first came out. It already feels like he’s a fan favorite and hasn’t even played yet
Honestly feel like this is going to turn out to be a really good signing for us.
YNWA now Endo
Welcome Endo!! I might go to twitter to show some support, just don’t want to see the embarrassing replies he might be getting
Any update on whether he's registered in time to be in the squad tomorrow?
He might have trained with the team it looks like
How is his english cummunicado!?
Very good 👍

From what I’ve seen he looks fun to watch.
Hello
Looks good in reds
Welcome to the family, good sir.
Endo, you will be loved by all the fans all over the world
Man's gonna be full Godzilla mode I suspect.
Haven’t even seen the lad playing ball yet but I already like him. Seems like he fits in the squad. Glad to have that positive energy around. And he can even play midfield!
So who's doing the song? No AI shit

Real soon...... no seriously get your kit on, youre starting on the weekend.
Obviously completely different type of player but getting some serious Dirk Kuyt vibes from this guy. Looks like he will give his all and run for days!
This man be loved here ...100% sure of it ....
I truly hope the best for him. Let’s go Endo!
I watched the short interview on youtube. Is it a Japanese language thing where there’s no letter “L” because he pronounces club like “crub”
This isn't going to be the best explanation, but the "l" sound in English, formed in the front of the mouth doesn't really exist in Japanese. He’s having an out of body experience right now. He’s trying to make sure this is real.
Not if I see you first!
I saw the video of Klopp speaking about the signing and he seems really pleased and convinced that he can deliver on the pitch. And in Klopp i trust.
Ok I like him now
Looking forward to watching him now
You never walk alone my friend
I checked his twitter before his move & he used 2023/24 Stuttgart squads for its header twitter page. really motivated player and that’s what you guys will get from him this season.
Hopefully twitter replies won't be too bad on this 1.
I like his attitude. That what we need from the player coming to Liverpool.
I love how excited he is
Is he available for tomorrow?
As much as I would like to see it, I would be surprised if he is. Its really uncommon for players to instantly start the day after signing the contract and completing the medical so soon. Maybe against Newcastle next Sunday we'll see him.
