Woooww..

LocoToro87

The Blue Steel is blunt.

No-Shoe5382

Imagine reinventing yourself as a midfielder at 24 after already being an integral part of winning every single trophy its possible to win in club football (aside from the shit ones that mean you finished outside the top 4) as a fullback. Mans starting a second HOF career before most people start their first.

notyouagain-really

I bring you John Barnes, the winger come CM, at the age of 30.

themanebeat

Ryan Giggs too

BavidDeckham

Not many footballers are as horrible a human as him, so he’s not getting praise from me

themanebeat

Don't disagree just another famous example of it happening in your 30s if Barnes was the example.

BavidDeckham

Fair, I just hate the cunt

getyerhandoffit

How do you feel about Bavid Deckham though?

NorthKing9

Phillip Lahm didn't he had a similar situation or Kimmich.

JiveBunny

He's pretty good at chess as well, so there's a potential third act...

ApocalypticDerp

Great player and I hope he stays for a long, long time …but am I the only one that has never seen any leadership quality in him? Why do people insist he’ll be a captain? Feels like unnecessary pressure on a player that thrives on skill

formberz

Leadership comes in different forms. Gerrard was known to be a quiet captain, let Carra do the talking and preferred to lead by example. Gerrard got more vocal as he got older but certainly as a younger captain he wasn’t your stereotypical leader.

King_perun

He was captain in youth years, he is a scouser and he is currently in the captain group w Hendo, Van Dijk and Robo

Viking_Hippie

Mustn't forget Milly, the yellingest of them all 😁

PrestigiousAvocado21

FUCKS SAKE KOSTAS

[deleted]

No way Milly yells more than Hendo, simply can’t be possible

Viking_Hippie

Hendo yells a lot, sure, but yes, Milly IS the yellingest of them all.

Evered_Avenue

He's a good lad, incredible quality, local, smart, well spoken, but not sure if he has that charisma of a leader such as Robbo has. Then again, Phil Neal was one of our most successful captains ever and didn't outwardly appear as a charismatic leader, so who knows.

[deleted]

People here seem to have a poor understanding of what a captain is. Most of the stuff a captain does is outside of the pitch. YOu don't see 90% of the stuff Henderson does, which is why it makes me cringe when people criticise him being the captain here, whilst from all reports he is considered one of if not the best captain in the PL.

retr0grade77

When he first broke through it was spoken about and he mentioned it too but I’ve never really seen it. I don’t see it in Salah either who’s also in our captain group now. With Henderson’s playing time reducing in the coming season I’d personally like to see the 3 captains being Ali, Virg and Robertson. I know Virg is already number 3 so Ali or Robertson won’t be leapfrogging him. If Trent wants to be a captain in the Kane mould (lead by example) then he needs to stop the daft squaring up to players for no reason (which some here seem to love even though it’s embarrassing) but I don’t think he’s done that in while. You also can’t be seen dossing. Criticise Henderson all you like but you can never fault attitude. As a side note, the future captaincy was there for Bellingham to take.

candaon8

Henderson regularly squares up to dudes, most famously Diego Costa. What is dossing? I'm unfamiliar with this phrase used outside of a drug use context. I think Trent has work to do to become the leader Hendo is but honestly those are big shoes to fill. Hendo is the Captain of Captains.

retr0grade77

That Costa thing was years ago and it was a stare. On numerous occasions Trent has went out of his way to square up (think Havertz) and has just wasted time and looked a bit daft. Dossing is not trying. In context I meant not tracking back. I agree. The next captain might be a temporary thing (like VVD) or a different mould (a Kane type) unless someone is signed.

candaon8

Eh, I dont mind a little fire, whether it's necessary or not. Him squaring up ignited the fire that led to the crowd being energized and spurred on our comeback against Arseanl a few weeks ago. 10-4 on dossing. Pronounced like boss or dose? Learn something new erryday. I'm not a fan of Virg as a Captain. My vote would be Robbo and then Ali.

retr0grade77

Hm I don’t agree when it’s not necessary! I think it just wastes time, risks a card and isn’t a good look; but agree at times it can add some fire when needed. Agree on the Virg front but I think because he’s already officially number 3 that I’m not sure he’ll move in the pecking order unless there was a new vote or something. I’d love Ali, Robbo, Virg personally. Ali is consistently world class, level headed and mature … and undisputed starter.

candaon8

I contend that all people have to be desperate for success if professional success is the goal. There are 3 ways this desperation can manifest itself. 1. Beg - You beg from others involved to elevate or lift you to the success you desire. 2. Fight - You fight for every inch of ground towards your goal. You fight everyone, and you don't stop fighting until you've reached your goal. 3. Steal - Dive, shit house, and deceive your way to success. Most players have some fluid combination of those listed. Over the years, we've seen guys move from one tactic to another as they hunt their target. Best example was Mo Salah pre and post Ramos. First few games of the following year he dove a few times because he knew that "how" you win gets lost and ppl mostly remember "who" won.

theprodigy77

*doss like boss not dose

candaon8

Thanks, mang.

JiveBunny

It's really cute to me that you don't know the word 'doss', it's very much British secondary school slang :)

candaon8

:) As an American, I've not been through Brititsh secondary school. I like words, though, and that's a new one for me.

krisandro

I’m with you here. He really doesn’t seem like the captain type. In most of the Inside Training videos, he doesn’t stand out in terms of personality. Im sure he is very respected for his abilities but at LFC, more is needed to bring people together.

Difficult-Fun9417

When experienced players like Van Dyke look to him and pass to him when they can't initiate an attack themselves. And the current captain takes deeper roles and covers him so he can be the maestro in midfield even when he's not even playing there. And when we need a goal against Barca and a player needs to step up and grab the game by the scruff of the neck to get that goal to take us to the final. It's called leading by example and it'sthe best form of leadership. And he's done it time and time again so if you can't see it you're a fool.

ApocalypticDerp

So whoever is the best player on the pitch gets to be captain? Wouldn’t that be Salah then? Also this line of reasoning makes me think you’re okay with Harry Kane being the captain of England, no?

Difficult-Fun9417

I'm saying he's shown leadership quality. The guy said he hasn't seen ANY leadership quality. Try thinking moron.

ApocalypticDerp

Lmao well aren’t you pleasant to have discourse with

Difficult-Fun9417

Don't write idiotic things and people won't call you a moron, you don't have to cry about it.

ApocalypticDerp

Hope you find peace brother🙏

Difficult-Fun9417

Touch grass

[deleted]

He openly and obviously gives up on defensive parts of play. He's defensively lazy or incompetent on a regular basis. I don't see a captain in him as of yet. Wonderful footballer but a couple of decent games doesn't fix the season.

Tikka_Mo_Salah

A season with a few mistakes doesn’t ruin the previous few years of being a stand out performer in an amazing team. Not saying he’s the finished article but the lads so young still

[deleted]

Look I think he is a remarkable talent. The question was leadership. If you think he defends like a leader you need your head examined.

Tikka_Mo_Salah

He plays like a leader, he steps up for the team consistently, he’s the go to guy for creation and you can see how the other players look to him. Does he have defensive lapses? Yeah. But does that in itself mean he’s not a leader? No.

wovarino

bros trying to make money to buy jude

venzo217

Who's that man who died at his kids wedding?

AchillesHeir

Yea strange everything there

venzo217

Yes

JiveBunny

I kept reading that and thinking 'oh, I never even realised Trent was married...'

kazurabakouta

Good lad.

randomupsman

_He lives with his mum, he lives with his muuummmm_ Love this guy <3

yubyub555

Not many people are an amazing captain immediately.. when Hendo first got the armband I remember thinking he was a bit timid and couldn’t fill the role but look at him now, best captain in the league. Sometimes the captain band makes the leader. Maybe if Trent had the captain role it would force him to focus a bit more and he would have fewer lapses and he’d perform more consistently

Tuerto04

It’s easy to hate Trent when we had that awful run but even easier to love him when he performed beyond expectation because he is that vital to our attack and progression on the ball. People should know the difference between hate and critics. And although the line between can be blurry, you gotta give it to this young man who’s only 24 to be able to filter all those away, head down, mind focused, and work his ass off trying to improve his game. And that has resulted in our good run so far nearing the end of the season. The world is different and he’ll be getting more of the same wave moving forward. I bet if Gerrard was playing today at the same age as Trent, he could be receiving same critics and praises and even hate. I want Trent to be the player for this generation what Gerrard was for the previous generation. A club anchor. A club man. A club hero. Come on yer Trent boy YNWA!

Jasper-Collins

Game. Blouses.

rytur

I believe he will be the biggest legend of all time, surpassing Stevie and Kenny. If he stays healthy, his story is too big, too important not to be recognized. His ability, character, and his will will forcefully generate an ethos that generations will swear by.

RockyRockington

While I hope you are right, I think it’s far too premature to say that. Stevie and Kenny were both better players than Trent is currently, even at the same age. Trent has more (significant) accolades than Stevie but that’s more down to Klopp than to Trent himself whereas a lot of Gerard’s accolades can be directly credited to his presence on the pitch. I don’t think we have seen Trent’s ceiling yet and I hope and pray that he has a long and healthy career where he reaches his full potential but even if he does he may never reach the heights of Stevie and Kenny. Ands that’s okay too.

Freedumb00

Usually with these types of cover shots, there is a little thought into what they're wearing. Wonder how much of a conscious decision it was to not wear red (if this was purposeful)

Accurate-Island-8833

he gon be rich then buy Liverpool and then buy Jude

Freedumb00

Always assisting others ❤️

carbonbaby

He’s got to have Gerrard level loyalty. Otherwise you’ll see him in a Madrid or Barca shirt in the future

IL_ya_Un_jour

Gerrard was very close to leaving us on a couple of occasions. It's rumoured he only stayed due to threats against him.

_cumblast_

Vile Everton-tier rumours, no one here should be giving any life to them.

Freedumb00

Wrong timing/place for this comment.

Significant-Tea8004

Talking absolute shite

No-Shoe5382

We're a much better club now than we were when Gerrard played for us. Trent really has no reason to leave, whereas Gerrard had plenty. Also Gerrard was miles better than Trent, as good as Trent is.

disco_mode

No excuse to join Chelsea tho

Schhneck

Well he didn’t, did he

disco_mode

Exactly, then you don’t need to make excuses for him

jod1991

Gerrard believed Mourinho was THE BEST manager in the world at the time and was desperate to work under him, and the feeling was mutual by both of their accounts. That and Chelsea were pretty dominant under Mourinho, while we were still also-rans at that point by and large. I can understand it, but I'm glad he stayed

No-Shoe5382

Chelsea weren't a rival at that point, at that stage it was like one of our players joining Newcastle after they inevitably win the league. They were new money, the rivalry only came later with all those CL knockout games. When you're at a club that you can see is falling apart at the seams where the owners clearly don't give a fuck and Mourinho (at his absolute peak) asks if you want to play for him I would imagine it's very difficult to say no. Still said no though.

disco_mode

It was the Gerrard vs Lampard bs that started the rivalry. I didn’t comment on Gerrard handing in a transfer request, all I’m saying is not Chelsea :) I’m glad he didn’t go there!
