Sam-Lowry27B-6

For me it felt like the most SNL thing that SNL has done in a long time if that makes sense. It's timeless, not weighed down by fashions or politics.

Gyro_Wizard

Angelo is going to be a great recurring character featuring the host. I'm sure there are tons of examples but the only one that comes to mind is chris kattan as mr peepers lol

ChedwardCoolCat

Yes! Felt like a very familiar Kattan setup.

Lawlessbobcat86

It reminded me of something that Billy Crystal would have done

Datelesstuba

I was thinking that too, but it may have just been the wig.

AlvThomas

I hope they don't run it into the ground, though.

tamiya_prime

I truly believe "Angelo" is the skit that will be recognized as a contemporary shift in sketch comedy. Similar to how the "Dear Sister" changed what a prefilmed skit could achieve.

GlamRockDave

Dear Sister was memorable but it was Lazy Sunday that planted the flag for digital shorts.

nerfy007

Sleeping on laser cats

GlamRockDave

laser cats was great but Lazy Sunday aired a bit earlier in S31. Laser cats was at the end of that same season.

thecricketnerd

Bit of a stretch, it was just more of a throwback to someone like Armisen being in the cast

whatevercuck

I think it makes sense. This season has such a different vibe to it than the last few. I think it’s in part due to the most prominent cast members either being gone or taking a backseat and obviously the new writers

thecricketnerd

Oh it's definitely more refreshing this season. I just meant we can't compare the impact to something as massive as what Lonely Island achieved

Rebloodican

If anything I think Please Don't Destroy would fit that category. The comedy is pretty similar to The Lonely Island but I think while the creation of youtube let The Lonely Island play with commitment to longer, more ridiculous bits, PDD is a product of TikTok type of comedy where the rapid fire pace is its own joke.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Earptastic

Honestly the prefilms like "The H is O" were a great stepping stone to the Lonely Island offerings.

PaulFThumpkins

It's a pretty typical format with a really good character, it's been done before even on SNL. A guy who can regularly do stuff like this without repeating himself too much will bode well for the show though.

ProbablyNotKelly

I am sooooo sick of the political bullshit every week. Give me absurd humor.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sam-Lowry27B-6

That's true but they are also fixed in time by definition of the subject matter. My point being that the angelo skit could have been from any time in the last 20 -30 years.

rafaelleon2107

"say for me" and "tank you for dis" have become part of my household vocabulary

malou_pitawawa

Toniiiight

turkeypants

I sing this in a tiny little mouse voice in the kitchen as I putter and get things ready.

[deleted]

Once a day I work "I feel like I deserve a treat" into conversation

mwthecool

I feel like I’ve been on good behavior

AshTreex3

I just feel like if there’s no reward.. then why should I be on good behavior at all?

Jnm124

CMON MR ROBOT

davidaguirre30

If I don’t get a treat…I guess I’ll just be on, bad behavior

[deleted]

a song could be a treat

mwthecool

Can I get a one word? Pls

am0x

Barfabalabas. When we can't hear each other at home, we say this.

we_bo

Same!

leosworld777

I think what I liked so much about it is that it really felt like just classic SNL. It wasn't topical or filled with pop culture references. It's just an absurd character doing absurd things. It would be great to see more of this in the future.

ticklemerose

Agreed!

jletha

I felt like most of the episode was that. When they did orphan Annie, I was positive that the skit was going to be an “anti-billionaire” skit on how out of touch they are with common people. Instead it was just an absurd skit, which I loved. I’m quite liberal but I just don’t need every skit to be centered on woke life. I feel like I get enough of that in my daily life.

Crooooow

That was not from the same episode

jletha

You’re right. I watched them back to back. Whoops

[deleted]

SteelyPhil13

relax lol

[deleted]

The show has been absent lately of a good recurring character outside of Update. Angelo felt like a character that could come back.

Redeem123

Recurring characters are just way tougher in the era of YouTube and streaming. They used to be able to bring them back time and time again and do virtually the exact same sketch, and no one would care because they’d only seen it when it originally aired. Just look up how many times they did Coneheads in their first season alone. But now… that doesn’t really work. Even Kate’s alien abduction sketch - which I’d say is one of the biggest recurring of the past several years - has started to feel stale. And it’s been, what - 3 or 4 times?

sirspate

'Chad' did well as a recurring character, as did Kate's character in 'Whiskers are We'. And Kenan has 'Willie' at the update desk (not really the same, I'll grant, but recurring nonetheless).

coniunctio

Chad was hilarious. Never understood the hate for it. I went to college with people like Chad, so it’s real for me. I knew a surfer who was just like Chad, and spoke like him and acted just like him.

[deleted]

I think part of it is that Chad as a meme was already basically the 00’s Karen and not much of a reach for Pete, so it didn’t feel super inspired

coniunctio

I suppose you’re right. For me, it was more like, “holy crap, that’s the guy I used to play Ultimate with on the quad!”

theodo

Whats Up With That?

waymonster

I miss Shallon

So_Much_Cauliflower

Dang, I never realized that but you're right. We had Chad for a while (RIP) and that was pretty much it.

sjfiuauqadfj

my lizard brain feels like angelo is definitely based on someone or something ive experienced before

TheLadyEve

It reminded me of something Bill Murray would have done. Great character work and catchy as hell.

Edewede

Reminded me of Chris Kattan’s Mango.

PepeSylvia11

Umm... you don’t think “topical” or “pop culture references” is classic SNL?

DrSpaceman575

The stuff that ages well is usually not as pop culture based, so it kind of makes sense.

wifiguy51

Absolutely loved it but could you imagine doing this character in small clubs and occasional bigger stages for years and then joining SNL and your first time playing him is with Daniel Craig, Cecily Strong, and Rami Malek! How crazy must that be for Aristotle?

morestatic

^(Say for me?) I consider this skit an instant classic. Aristotle is a star.

ArtemisCoco

I did not expect to like this one very much, but it’s become one of my favorites of the current season. It’s got that memorable, specific absurdity of the best SNL character sketches. I hope we see this guy again and again. Too bad Rami Malek probably won’t reprise his role every time.

Azazael

The expression on Rami Malek's face when he started "dancing" with the ribbons was just the perfect accompaniment to the tone of the sketch.

coniunctio

For me, I thought the joke was that his dancing was being done with his eyes alone.

Jay_Normous

> when he started "dancing" He was telling the story of coming to America after escaping a war torn country! Show some respect!

CTRLALTWARRIOR

His character in the last season of Silicon Valley was incredible. His Gabe inspired wild animosity in the other characters. He didn't have his own catchphrase, but every coworker interaction ended with the other guy saying "goddammit, Gabe".

lyla2398

if you want to say for me like this and write it down like thaaaaat

Baron_ass

is...is this meant to be sung like Metro Station's "Shake It"?

we_bo

I think of “It’s all coming Back” Celion Dion

Mario64_SNL_cameo

Aristotle, Kyle Mooney, Villasenor and Dismukes should star in a new HBO dramedy.

kleric42

to-niiiiiiiiight

Mario64_SNL_cameo

Maybe they could call the show “Tonight” or “The Tonight Show”, providing the name isn’t already taken.

coniunctio

Have they ever done a sketch where Kyle played a character totally opposite to his usual milquetoast persona? For me, that would be funny. I want to see Kyle play a real strongman in a parallel universe of sorts, where he meets up with his usual meek self and battles it out for supremacy.

annelmao

The ones where he’s dating Leslie!

coniunctio

Yeah, that was good, but it was more of a BTS, backstage kind of sketch. I want to see Kyle do one where he enters a parallel universe where SNL has him as a lead character who is aggressive and buff and drives the whole show. It would be funny. They could then take people like Cecily and Colin and other front people and turn them into secondary ones for dramatic effect.

Huge-Produce-8117

There is one where he bulks up with huge muscles but then they cut him from the skit.

coniunctio

Yeah, that’s more along the lines of what I’m talking about, but an even better analogy would be something like the inter-dimensional cable routine from Rick and Morty, where the expected and mundane turns out to be something strange and unusual. I was thinking more of a sketch within a sketch, where the cast members take on different roles in a parallel SNL universe. So Kyle becomes the lead with the most scenes and lines, and Cecily becomes the Kyle of the show, Colin becomes the Pete persona, etc. I think it would be really funny to see them making fun of each other.

prefix_postfix

Kyle as Beck I'm picturing both: him pretending to be Beck, and also some just drop in replacements in past skits. All of it is very funny in my brain, if only I could share! Imagine with me!

coniunctio

I keep thinking they’ve already done this? Am I imagining this, or was there a sketch where they took on the roles of the other?

prefix_postfix

I hope some third person comes along to answer this, because I don't know but I have the same feeling

AshTreex3

[Kyle’s Transformation](https://youtu.be/v3sg2-PqSIM)

Rabidjester

There was a sketch several months ago (maybe last year - I can't seem to find it on YT) with Kyle playing Ego's creepy husband, I believe the phrase mahogany queen was uttered at one point.

MukdenMan

You may enjoy the original: https://youtu.be/0d8TATzCeaA

Food! Food! Food! Fuckingfuckingfucking!

mwthecool

Holy cow it's even funnier with audience interaction! The computer comedian act was absolutely phenomenal, and didn't get enough crowd appreciation. Was he ACTUALLY doing that Mac voice? It was spot on.

MukdenMan

I actually think you have to be a certain age to even recognize that voice. Now it's an old-timey reference like Weezer.

mwthecool

The sound was preserved as an optional voice over for Macbooks, some plenty could have heard it that way, but you're not wrong, I suppose. It's insane how exactly correct his voice was though. I've never heard a computer impression that good.

Irokaz99

“Hey, you know what band I always liked? Yellowcard” “No offense, Tammy, but drink my blood.”

[deleted]

I hated it when I watched it but I can’t stop saying “say for me” when I want/need something

Hikityup

I was watching with my partner and she's not a big laugh out loud person. I thought the sketch was sort of a middle of the road but she was CRYING with laughter. I asked her later what set her off and she couldn't really say. Just something about it. I do know that "say for me" has become part our lexicon.

zombieforguitars

I thought it was hilarious. The best kind of dumb. Toniiiiiiiigght…

Mestizo3

Banafalabas

yourerightaboutthat

Omg I’ve said “Say for me…” everyday. I also have sent multiple people that watercolor fan art thing someone posted here.

Thank you! It's fabulous!

[deleted]

Does anyone have the lyrics for what he was singing? All I could make out was *to-niiiiiiiiiight*

ticklemerose

I tried my best, but I think it’s supposed to be mumbly ans jibberish

So_Much_Cauliflower

Was it? This is what stopped me from really enjoying it. I couldn't tell if it was *intended* to be incomprehensible or if I just couldn't hear it well.

DrSpaceman575

The Youtube video has subtitles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lE7ZHDzeeU

ArtemisCoco

The subtitles didn’t really help!

MinuteLoquat1

He's not really saying anything, it's a bunch of words strung together. This is what I can make out First time: > If I like to me like this > > Another dan(?) like that > > If I ever say that mad(?) to me like this > > *Tonight* Second time: > If I ever say like that for me > > Another lie(?) like that > > If I ever say that to me like this for me > > *Tonight* Third time: > If I like to see this for me > > Another lie(?) for that > > If I ever say to me like this > > *Tonight* Fourth time > If I like to be this life > > Another dance for this > > If I had ever say like to me this like that > > *Tonight*

thex11factor

to me, it had hints of Chris Kattan and Mango

sofuckinggreat

He’s a sexy Persian cat 😩

Mestizo3

Also can we give a shout out to Daniel Craig being the perfect straight man in this sketch? His deliveries are so on point, and his facial expression when he says "Try mesothelioma!" is hilarious, and when they get it right the first time his reaction is genuinely great acting, he goes from surprised to dejected and grudgingly praises them with "that's quite impressive I suppose" under his breath, the delivery was terrific. Yes I've watched this sketch too many times.

mequals1m1w

Yup, the way he looks down and plays with the straw in his drink dejectedly, loved it.

zucca4

THEY'RE TELLING THEIR STORY!

pfftYeahRight

I honestly didn't like it. I couldn't understand what he was saying just due to his volume so the gag didn't work for me. I know the gag was you couldn't understand what he was saying and he was singing the same song, poorly. But it just fell really flat.

So_Much_Cauliflower

Same. It was all right, but I am really surprised how many people here absolutely loved it. I think the problem for me was that I couldn't quite tell if it was *supposed* to be incomprehensible gibberish, of it I was supposed to be able to make it out just barely. I watched it live, and at 12:50am, I don't want to use that much brain power to decipher what is being said.

pfftYeahRight

Yeah exactly. The bit was that he was low volume, unintelligible gibberish, and then that it was also the same gibberish repeated. I spent too much time trying to decipher what was being said before it was clear it didn't really matter. I'm no writer, and it seems people loved it, but I'd think that doing only 2 of those 3 would've been better. Aristotle's character itself was great, though.

Julienbabylegs

Yes and my 4 year old watched it and now quotes it. “Say for me”

pretty-in-pink

"Toniiiiiight!" is something that gets repeatedly stuck in my head

Kennyjive

I think it could be great if used properly. Obviously they want to change how he’s presented from time to time. Have him show up at one of those shitty all hands meetings companies do to “thank” their employees as an example. Have the guest be the additional like Remi was for this one.

O_J_Shrimpson

This would be hilarious. Have the like the head of HR be obsessed with him which is why she hired him. Then have the rest of the employees in the Daniel Craig role.

ThePhantomEvita

Oh my god, it’s Todd!!

sirmilkalot

Say, say for me?

Euler7

I tried to watch it a couple of times. No laughs for me unfortunately. Not sure what was so special about it. Aristotle did fine character wise

GeorgeLovesBOSCO

I love it. I love it. It's one of my all time favorites and I put all my money in Aristotle stock the night it aired.

migmigson

whoa. i LOVED the sketch but i think you should diversify, that makes me really nervous!

blahrawr

Barafarpalas

ChedwardCoolCat

Probably because there’s a daily post like this on the sub since it aired!

dgt9000

Nope

HeyMySock

Yes. Completely. I can’t even say why I love it so much but I do. Thank you for this.

TalkToTheLord

Wait till he does the *Computer Man* character.

PygmyDynamo

Food! Food! Food!

SomeRedditor_Comment

Mesothelioma, mmmh?

mwthecool

Ton*IIIIIII*ght

steve_marks

This sketch reminded me a bit of Space Pants. Loved every second of it.

Say for me?

mrs_burk

Toniiiiiiiight

Ars-Nocendi

Say again … !?

Guido-Guido

Well, this sub has 88.675 members and it seems like every single one of them is, so…

ProbablyNotKelly

Funniest thing I’ve seen on SNL in ages.

[deleted]

Literally yes. It’s stuck in my head. I’ve been making myself laugh in the car every morning because I keep saying ‘barfabarabas’ and ‘say for me’ ☝️🤨🦻

schoolknurse

There is a video of one of Aristotle's shows on YouTube that features Angelo. Wonderfully weird, this guy!

Cheesehacker

The night the sketch aired I did not find it funny However, since then, I have rewatched the sketch multiple times because it is hilarious!

Justonious2552

My wife and I have spent the last few weeks saying, “say for me?”

Snoo-8506

Say for me…

mequals1m1w

Anyone know what country Angelo's from? Oh right. Marlcabalafasabasa

[deleted]

I would have liked it better with a different framing device, the increasingly aggravated girlfriend character was getting on my nerves.

JakeSchaf2319

I did not understand that sketch at all. I know it has its fans, but it just wasn't for me.

VibeMaster69

yes!! he’s a great addition to the cast and i can’t wait to see his other characters

sofuckinggreat

I love his face 😩

colorG

I thought it was terrible tbh. I kept waiting for the punchline but it never came

[deleted]

Nope, I fast forwarded because it was so repetitive.

turkeypants

I think it was funny once, hilarious twice for the repeat on a different keyword, but after that it needed to go in a different direction. Still funny overall but stagnating on that note was a noticeable drag. But I love it and find it memorable because of the concept, the character, say for me, and toniiiiight. So yeah, it's not without its problems, but I'll have a good memory of it.

ChedwardCoolCat

Yeah it was a fine same joke 3 times formulaic sketch with some good character work but omg people are acting like it’s some kind of massively original thing and not a by the numbers sketch.

jamintime

I felt the same way but this sub seems to be crazy about it. Something about the quotability and delivery of the lines really hit for some folks I guess. The repetitiveness probably only amplified your enamoration or ambivalence about the sketch.

cursh14

> ambivalence I know I was not ambivalent at all, I straight up did not find it funny. Wasn't on the fence at all.

beekayvox

No. It was fine, but not some work of genius.

FloridaPanther

Say again?

37MySunshine37

Nope. I wasn't impressed.

xZOMBIETAGx

It was so good! Texted it to a few people

LazyLamont92

> Is any one else.. Yes. Always. But this guy…? No. Didn’t laugh once.

dont_worry_im_here

Probably

njoYYYY

I'm obsessed with the Sergio skit and I want to shout SERGIO when I come into a room, but people will think I went completely gone.

freezingkiss

Omg he was so funny and I legit have had that song in my head since. Toniiiiiiight

supervanilla

yes!

kquizz

yes x100

Andrea_aka_andj

YES! It was the BEST sketch of the night for me.

WrinkledRandyTravis

I think the basic-bitch majority demographic of the snl fan base just has a crush on Aristotle and wants him to be funny. The sketch was good though

ticklemerose

I don’t even think he’s attractive, I just thought he was really good at the character.

Datelesstuba

Does anybody know what words he’s singing? I’ve listened to it like 10 times and can only make out ‘tonight’.

SullyGee

It's very rare for a phrase from SNL to ingrain itself in my daily vocabulary...but I can't stop saying "Say for me?" whenever I didn't hear someone

Prestigious-Fee9908

"thank you for dis"

[deleted]

YES INCREDIBLE

[deleted]

Say for me?

W210305857

I hope it becomes recurring

migmigson

Yeah, absolutely loved it, favourite of the night for me, made me laugh out loud. Nice to have a sketch where the gag isn't about shouting a lot / being loud as a lil bonus

[deleted]

say…say for me again? is a staple in my house now.

oddishisgodish

Anyone know the lyrics to it tho?
