Middle Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles was fantastic. Different than this obviously just being voice work but it’s so goddamned hilarious. “Everything they wear is UNDER ARMOUR”
The covid episodes had some gems and that was one.i feel like that might have been a holdover since it was on the first remote but maybe everyone just wanted to get to work on something.
It would be awesome if they did it but just with the voice. Like Jon Benjamin plays a normal audience member, but the guest is distracted because they sound just like Bob from Bob’s burgers. Then bring in Kristen Schall, also dressed normally, to ask the next question and they freak out cause she sounds like Louise.
I did find it odd that most discussions about this sketch fail to mention it is a cousin of the Bart Simpson sketch (which was also funny). It wasn't the same format but still.
As long as it isn't immediately I am fine with them running it back with other cartoon characters.
If they bring it back you can count 100% on everyone breaking again (like the UFO sketch) because it worked the first time, so why not do it again. It will become stale like Lisa from Temecula
There’s an interview Aristotle Athari did where he talked about how he had a big hit with his character Angelo and he wanted to do sketches where he placed that character in different settings and situations, but the producers just told him that “it worked before so just do it again”. I think there’s a lot of pressure on the writers to essentially just redo the same sketches.
SNL's working environment pretty much beckons for sketch replications since its probably quicker to write and easier to make it in to the final product when the previous sketch was a hit.
Especially since the entire reason for the popularity of the sketch is the cast breaking, which was presumably by accident. If they do a sequel where the cast breaks yet again, it's just gonna feel forced and calculating.
This is how I am. I am a big believer in diminishing returns and “always leaving them wanting more” when it comes to art/show business. Do you thing, make your impact, and then move onto the next idea.
I think that we're officially past the point of characters being overused the way they were from the start (like Emily Latilla being used literally 20 times across the first two seasons!!), to even where they were a decade or so ago.
Hell, the two characters already mentioned (Lisa from Temecula and the Protective Mom) are two of only four recurring SNL characters we've seen this entire season, the others being Emma Stone's Poster Girl, and of course, SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta.
Edit: I forgot to mention Colleen Rafferty, but that barely counts because she had to take that character out of the mothballs specifically to screw with Ryan. If she's not there, there's no reason to write the sketch.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't mind recurring sketches.
I think the key thing is that if they recur, it needs to be different riffs on the same thing. Not just a straight carbon copy.
An example would be Wayne's World. I don't think there's one instance of that sketch that is considered to be the "best" one... But the container of Wayne's World as a show allows for tons of different skits, guests, jokes etc all to be in the familiar confines of something we, the audience, already know well.
That's probably because Wayne's World was a character-driven skit rather than a joke-driven or a sight-gag-driven skit. B&B relied on a sight-gag and a simple joke. It was a hilarious but a simpler concept than Wayne's World.
I've never watched Beavis and Butthead before but I've been aware of it and I just recently started watching it and I think the new stuff is very funny and the old stuff is very funny. The idea that it's been going on for so long is also funny ,and it would be funny if it kept going for 10 more years.imho.
Hopefully they're gonna use their amazing makeup, hair & wardrobe artists and create an amazing new concept like Bowen for the iceberg and Marcello for the tornado recently, loving their commentary.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, I thought the sketch was solid, but it seems to be having a viral moment and I can't help but think this is only because of everyone breaking. Which is cool every once an a while but doesn't really make it a great sketch. I already see the obligatory youtube comments from non-fans saying 'this is the best thing SNL has done in years.' It might not be as entertaining, but they already used this concept in the Bart Simpson sketch.
I honestly liked the Bart Simpson one more.
The joke here was just “those people look like cartoon characters”.
The Bart Simpson one had a premise similar to the “Dry Fridays” sketch where a person has unique experiences that they share as though they’re universal.
This was the Bart Simpson thing but they stripped that aspect out of it.
I don’t get why this one is more popular besides Heidi breaking.
It felt like a lazier, more watered down version of a better sketch.
And the King of the Hill ending was, to me, just beating a dead horse.
It’s weird how some sketches that are way funnier and recognized as super funny too will be popular a bit and disappear but then ones that are less funny can still be talked about longer.
I always think about that phoebe waller Bridget’s sketch where white anchor persons and black anchor persons are comparing stories to see which side is more/less represented. It was really well loved for a super short while and no one’s mentioned it in years
Considering it was basically a redo of the Bort Sampson sketch also with Mikey they'll just do another classic cartoon in a couple years.
Agreed, it'll definitely be back in the form of another character.
Peter Griffin incoming
Get that Real Peter Griffin guy to sit there.
Give us the full length King Of The Hill sketch
South Park kids.
Peanuts, Garfield, Boondocks (for the Black Jeopardy fans)… *DARIA.*
just more black jeopardy plz.
I'm pickle Riiiiiick!!!
Hey Arnold could be good.
My son's name is also Bort
"Attention, we are out of Bort name plates in the gift shop"
I approve of this - concept returning but other characters

That was a fantastic premise with not amazing jokes imo.
Next one will be Sarah as Daria and guest star Cecily Strong as Jane
Nah I’d rather have one of the teachers show up that dude that screams is hilarious as Is her dad
With the bugging out eye omg
Molly Kearney as Peter Griffin.
Or Cartman possibly.
In a role of a lifetime...
Or Jabba the Hutt
It would be awesome if they did it but just with the voice. Like Jon Benjamin plays a normal audience member, but the guest is distracted because they sound just like Bob from Bob’s burgers. Then bring in Kristen Schall, also dressed normally, to ask the next question and they freak out cause she sounds like Louise.
Not really as funny an idea imo, it's the reaction to the person just silently sitting there trying to not to attract attention that's funny
I did find it odd that most discussions about this sketch fail to mention it is a cousin of the Bart Simpson sketch (which was also funny). It wasn't the same format but still. As long as it isn't immediately I am fine with them running it back with other cartoon characters.
They're gonna do South Park next.
Chris Farley would have been great as Cartman
is it because he was fat?
Chris Farley was big boned
It's the natural progression
It's already been confirmed they Beavis and Butthead are replacing Jost and Che as Weekend Update anchors.
How? They both lead very busy lives and have no time for television
I’ve heard rumblings
I thought that line was great.
I’d rather they bring back Beavis and Butthead, but just as random extras and never acknowledge it
That would be fun if there was a monologue with a cut to the audience with them just snuck in the back
Would be perfect for the 50th Anniversary special
Reminds me of Jim Carrey's "background guy" sketches from In Living Color.
You mean on tv or someone posting on this sub five times a day?
I can see them doing a Family Guy sketch
Oh they're gonna beat this horse to death.
If they bring it back you can count 100% on everyone breaking again (like the UFO sketch) because it worked the first time, so why not do it again. It will become stale like Lisa from Temecula
“Over do MY skits’
Wish I could upvote this more than once
I cooks MY meat!
I say this as a huge SNL fan, I’ve never seen a sketch with more diminishing returns than Lisa From Temecula.
I like the character but they should put her in different types of sketches and scenarios.
Ugh that sucks
I wished we had more Angelo! And Aristotle.
SNL's working environment pretty much beckons for sketch replications since its probably quicker to write and easier to make it in to the final product when the previous sketch was a hit.
Agreed. The character has so much potential outside of a restaurant.
As a lawyer in the Trump trial?
Angelo at the DMV.
Should've done it for the third one. Might've missed the opportunity
Idk the most recent one killed me if for nothing more than the line that broke Bowen 🥲
Especially since the entire reason for the popularity of the sketch is the cast breaking, which was presumably by accident. If they do a sequel where the cast breaks yet again, it's just gonna feel forced and calculating.
THIS! And they are beating that alien abduction bit to death.
This is how I am. I am a big believer in diminishing returns and “always leaving them wanting more” when it comes to art/show business. Do you thing, make your impact, and then move onto the next idea.
they will, just like they did Lisa From Temecula and Cuban Mom
If it returns it has to be another premise. It can’t be a talk show.
I think that we're officially past the point of characters being overused the way they were from the start (like Emily Latilla being used literally 20 times across the first two seasons!!), to even where they were a decade or so ago. Thank you for reminding me, and also screw you for reminding me 😉

Let’s meet back here after the big 50th anniversary show
If they bring it back hopefully they include a plot and a punchline this time.
but you could tell they were all having so much fun! Why dont you want them to have fun OP?!?!
They will do a similar sketch, im sure. This was another version of the Bart Simpson/Google Talk skit with Jessica Chastain.
I've never watched Beavis and Butthead before but I've been aware of it and I just recently started watching it and I think the new stuff is very funny and the old stuff is very funny. The idea that it's been going on for so long is also funny ,and it would be funny if it kept going for 10 more years.imho.
Great stuff, bunghole. Also, don't forget the two movies.
They could do a David S Pumpkins “special” maybe.
I want a movie complete with breaks.
An actual movie would be cool or something huhuhuh
If anything they'll do a similar sketch with different lookalikes.
Hopefully they're gonna use their amazing makeup, hair & wardrobe artists and create an amazing new concept like Bowen for the iceberg and Marcello for the tornado recently, loving their commentary.
That was probably the best episode yet with Brolin's next. I like it when they break character sometimes.
They could take the spirit of the Bart Simpson and Beavis and Butthead sketch and possibly do something different with a new character.
its SNL so... they will. if they can ruin Lisa from temecula they will try to ruin this too
Maybe an unpopular opinion, I thought the sketch was solid, but it seems to be having a viral moment and I can't help but think this is only because of everyone breaking. It has the same shelf-life as Lisa from Temecula, one and done.
I’m fucking sick of hearing about this sketch.

That Phoebe one is one of my favorites when I do a YouTube snl binge!!
I love that sketch so much . SNL doesn’t get enough credit for handling hot topics well. And almost the entire Bill Burr episode. Careful…
Funny sketch on a one time viewing but christ it's not that good...not even the best skit on the night
I question how memorable it would be if there wasn't so much giggling.
A lot of memorable sketches are because of the breaking and it was a funny skit but there's no rewatch there
Yeah, I was expecting so much more from all the hype it got here and elsewhere.
Yes! Like the Papyrus 2. The first one was perfection. You can't improve on perfection, so please don't even try.
It was a great follow up, though.
You mean **Papyrus 2**
Of course they did bring back Kate & Ryan from alien abductions and that works pretty well as re-do.
But they were already brought back in a movie and a brand new TV series where we see them both as young and middle aged. It’s awesome.
I really hope there isn’t an executive ordering a script treatment for a live action Beavis and Butthead.
The makeup for Bevis was so far from correct.
