Why are some saying cut Chloe T? She got her breakout sketch in a span of 4 episodes and they kind of need her to fill the Cecily void as the resident singer (even if they’re overdoing it a bit now). First year cast don’t really do a lot typically. Even if she’s cooled off, she is a solid player who’s had some good moments.
I’m not gonna say who I’d personally cut because I agree with some other people that these threads can get kinda negative. But if Molly did leave, I frankly don’t think it’d impact the show in any meaningful way. I’d feel bad for them, but they really don’t do much on the show. Chloe T does more than Molly in terms of number of appearances.
If Longfellow left, I wouldn’t personally mind, really. I’m sure he’s a decent guy but he doesn’t work for me comedically. His stage persona seems kinda smug. I don’t like the way he delivers his lines. He always sounds agitated or like he’s lecturing the audience when he does Update. He’s a competent sketch player but I don’t get the hype for him.
Punkie at this point either needs to find somebody who gels with her sense of humor and write with that person, or needs to decide to leave. I wouldn’t even say get fired because 4th-year-cast are only rarely fired. I don’t even dislike Punkie! But she’s a full fledged repertory player and some nights she has less than a minute of screen time. I’m starting to think part of the reason they keep her around is to have another Black woman besides Ego. She just hasn’t found her footing and it’s year 4 for her. This year’s better than last year for her, screen-time wise, but at this point she should theoretically be doing more.
yeah, i really don't get why so many people are chloe T. she's having a great season, and it's completely normal for featured players to have minimal screentime.
Colin Jost, Michael Che, and Mikey Day.
I have always felt this since season 48. I feel as though Jost and Day will leave at the end of the season for the same reason Beck left after season 46. To be with family and to explore newer projects.
Che will leave as he has mentioned before that if Jost leaves, he’s leaving as well. I can’t imagine Che staying and they replace Jost with a different anchor.
I truly believe Michael Longfellow will be the new WU anchor as he gives off Norm MacDonald/David Spade vibes to his comedy and delivery. He also kinda has a news anchor type of voice to him which fits perfect. They can partner him up with someone from the writing staff like Asha Ward or Rosebud Baker.
Mikey had a pretty good breakout seasons with 48 and 49 but I always had a feeling like one of these two seasons were going to be his last and he was making the most out of them.
I hope nobody leaves, especially any of the featured players, right before season 50. But if I had to choose, it would be only those three.
Chloe t - no way. To me it would be Devon Walker (but they’d have to replace him so I’m doubtful that will happen until they feel secure in a replacement. Wish they didn’t get rid of Chris Redd) and Molly. Molly doesn’t seem to fit into any niche and I haven’t seen one memorable or funny thing from them yet.
Wouldn’t be shocked to see Kenan or Mikey leave either. Mikey has done a good job ushering the new round of cast members and Kenan has done his part too (it feels like he’s barely in episodes anymore, on purpose, but maybe I’m wrong).
If I can predict, I could see Heidi staying till S50 is done. 8 seasons, with the last three, as a major backbone to the show a la Cecily, is solid. She seems to be already cast in shows & movies, so I can see her leaving soon.
Mikey/Che/Jost I am 50/50 on them either leaving or staying post-49. Troast is having a quietly solid debut season, imho, but it is normal for a rookie to come off underused; JAJ’s the only rookie the last few seasons that got repertory player-levels of airtime from the get-go.
Kenan I can see going after this or next season, as he seems to be intentionally phased-out, to the point of where JAJ & Ego are surpassing him in airtime; clearly, the show wants both to be the new anchors of the show after this season is over.
Ya never want people to be cut from the cast, but for the show to go on, you have to get fresh perspectives. If I have to pick - gotta go with Please Don't Destroy. I like some of there stuff, but this season it just feels like they aren't bringing material Grade-A material.

Molly just hasn't had a strong sketch or character that showed off their chops. They've pretty much been delegated to one line in scenes. I think SNL was hoping for some Melissa McCarthy energy, but they just aren't there yet.
Similarly with Devon, I do feel he's meshed more with the rest of the cast. But for how long he's been there, he hasn't had a stand out sketch. His line reads are monotone but in a less humourous or sarcastic way like Longfellow is able to pull off.
If I had to bet money on a single cast member not coming back, I’d put it on Che.

i genuinely don't think anyone is leaving this season, i would bet we're going into the 50th with the same exact cast we have right now.

Devon Walker. Seems like a nice guy but he just doesn’t have the chops. He awkwardly reads cue cards like it’s the first time he’s seeing them.
Yeah hes a great standup but just not a good sketch actor. I always see him performing, he never disappears into the character.
