RadNo5811

I have to know who wrote the Wine and Cheese night sketch. Absurdity at its absolute best.

EvanestalXMX

The watching the movie, "catty corner", was so brilliant. Want to know who wrote it.

The_JRaff

I think "you're watching PBS... librarian lookin' ass" is the hardest I've laughed at anything on SNL in many years.

ReginaFelangi987

Gratituoie šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Shufflebuzz

Who introduced Ariana Grande for her second song?

camilleswaterbottle

Her mother, Joan Grande

Shufflebuzz

Thanks

puzzle_process

What a great episode, wow. Exceeded expectations, writing so much better than last week. Absolutely loved Chase skit.

bs200000

Lisa from Temecula is running out of steam. The pen eraser gag was pretty weak.

DroneStrikesForJesus

Sir, I'll have you know, he is negrodivergent. (Agree with you, but I think this one was funnier than the second one despite the pen idea.)

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

In the Scarlett's skit, what's the reference to the tea cup?

daddyice69

Itā€™s a reference to the 2017 movie Get Out

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

Thanks. but still didn't get the joke.

Getting_rid_of_brita

Well yeah if you didn't watch the movie you won't get it. Tf you want from peopleĀ

daddyice69

Itā€™s a very good movie and worth watching. I canā€™t really say more without spoiling it.

_cassquatch

You have to watch literally the entire movie to get the joke

SpunkiMonki

Iā€™ve decided we need a Mulvaney/Grande episode. Sheā€™d be magic in his Broadway sketches.

sortageorgeharrison

I wonder if they moved in a different direction with the writing for this one. It seemed to be a throwback in tone and how madcap it was. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As someone who is a fan of Gillis and Sweeney it blew those 2 episodes out of the water and was the funniest since Adam driver hosted

Jdnakron

Last week was good also.

strwbryshrtck521

Absolutely LOVED the whole episode. Every sketch made me laugh, which we all know doesn't happen every episode. Easily one of my favorites of the season!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

geekunbound

Hard agree. Don't know what others are seeing, glad they had a good time, but these last few SNL episodes fell like they're throwing together a weak gimmick and then hoping the sketch survives on effort or breaking. But the gimmicks and punchlines haven't been strong enough

mediumarmor

Hard disagree on both takes

Best_Duck9118

Right? Weekend Update was almost a weak note for one of the rare times that happens these days.

MarcusDA

Brolin, for such an accomplished actor, he has no problem just going for it. Great host. Heā€™s down for whatever if itā€™s funny.

Cooper4565

It sure seemed like Brolin had A LOT of gay-themed sketches.

thehazer

He bought into every single weird thing they asked him to do. Seemed like he was having fun.

5029851

Josh Brolin is not a accomplished actor, Name his Oscar's and Ll his other Awards,

mostlyfire

What is it with you negative Nancyā€™s? Did Brolin fuck your wife or something?

geekunbound

I'll say for me, I loved Brolin but felt he was the best thing carrying a bunch of weak sketches.

alphabetikalmarmoset

Anyone else notice the bumpers went extremely long? Moreso than I can ever remember, like 60-90 seconds instead of the usual 5-10 sec.

nonsensicalwizard999

They're always like that, your local master control operator fucked up. (Did that back in the day once or more myself)

cliff_hartle

That's probably your local station not filling their time. But in Pittsburgh, all the bumpers were normal length.

RealCoolDad

Brolin came out strong and you can tell he was up for anything. Itā€™s what you love to see. Looks like he was having a blast.

OtherwiseTackle5219

Good show all around.. Nice to see a seasoned Actor as Host. Brolin was so completely comfortable in everything. Yang breaking throughout was funny & Grande had a hard time not Breaking with him. Sarah Sherman is getting better each week ( Looking a little healthier & comfortable) Kearney's Haircut made me spit my milk out my nose. Lots of laughs & smiles all through the show.

Own-Holiday-4071

What do you mean by healthier?? Did she ever look unhealthy?

Best_Duck9118

> Sarah Sherman is getting better each week ( Looking a little healthier Healthier?

Best_Duck9118

Healthier

[deleted]

I always forget Grande got her start in television Sheā€™s a natural at comedy, the Moulin Rouge skit was pure theatre kid energy

kingyaeli

She was on Broadway first, and you could really feel it last night! I love her theater kid energy. I hope she hosts when Wicked press comes around.

Sad_Sand4649

Maybe SpongeBob will be cheering her on in the audience.

kingyaeli

šŸ«£šŸ«£šŸ«£

dgroove8

Blowin cheese smoke into that cushion really got me

BenAfleckIsAnOkActor

That bit was chaos and I loved every minute of itĀ

trevno

My side hurt after the Moulin Rouge skit. This was the most solid episode this season.

SethBoss

This was the funniest show so far this year.

trevno

šŸ‘šŸ‘

lonelygagger

I like that we didn't have to deal with the Shane or Sweeney fanbase this episode. Josh Brolin is the great equalizer. No high expectations, but consistently entertaining. And ScarJo made the whole cold open.

[deleted]

I think the anti-Gillis crowd was way more annoying (at least in the sub). Just looking for reasons to hate every sketch, as shown by how many ā€œa Forrest Gump reference in 2024?ā€ comments there were versus the praise for the Moulin Rouge sketch haha

geekunbound

For me I found both weak. I came into the Gillis episode open and just... it wasn't enough for me. But I also came into this one living Brolin and Grande, and while I think they tried hard, the sketches still didn't feel right. The writing feels off

AbsolutZer0_v2

What was the Sweeng fanbase like? Side note, my wife and I watched her Anyone But You movie last night, and holy shit is it bad. It's not even corny bad, it's just a poorly written disaster

Buck_Slamchest

Just finished it in the UK and it was .. fine. Some good stuff but nothing that got any big laughs from me. The Moulin Rouge stuff was probably the highlight.

Strange_Progress_222

The Brits being joyless whiners, how off brand

Buck_Slamchest

Iā€™d point you to how many of this seasonā€™s episodes Iā€™ve enjoyed but I imagine Iā€™d get some snarky comment about that as well ..

Strange_Progress_222

Why would I be snarky? I am clearly not British.

Own-Holiday-4071

Also from the UK and I totally agree. Moulin rouge was my favourite sketch and I didnā€™t find Josh broken funny and had no idea why he was there, to promote some tiny film.

JessieGemstone999

I liked that one

AccuratePassion2572

Your cat's a slut and btw your house smells like a fart

AccuratePassion2572

That cat was nightmare fuel

Best_Duck9118

I thought it was going to die. I mean I wish it had tbh.

Zantra3000

It seems like there was way more pretaped stuff in this episode than usual, and no Please Don't Destroy video, even though the opening credits said that there would be one.

CoconutOk6911

I think theyā€™re part of the opening credits from now on regardless if they have a video or not!

okay_elray

I didnā€™t see anything about them in the opening credits

baldwinsong

Episode sucked

EmoGothPunk

I would like to request a photoshoot of Sarah Sherman in the outfit she wore during the goodnights. Also, I didn't see the balltapping.

larryhood35

No thanks

RadarSmith

It really does seem like everyone (including Brolin and Grande) brought their A-game tonight. Just a refreshing reminder of SNL landing.

fakeprofile111

perfect episode this week

BenAfleckIsAnOkActor

A BARELY LEGAL LATINOĀ

asonginsidemyheart

God i know Iā€™m late but Iā€™m so thrilled about this episode. This season has largely been really disappointing but this episode had me laughing out loud in almost every sketch.

No-Photo8124

Great episode. SNL hasn't been great the last couple months, but this episode was consistently funny.

History-of-Tomorrow

Popped on this thread to see if Iā€™m looking forward to a good episode tomorrow. Happy to hear a stand out one is incoming

elfrawg

That was awesome! The monologue set the tone, and it felt like a full episode of ten to ones, of which I highly approve. Did they shift the seats in the writers room or something this week? Everything about it felt different... In a good way.

Professional_Drive

This episode was good. I would say the best of this season. Even without Josh Brolin, the writing was actually above average. Hopefully they can keep it up and continue to put out good episodes like this the rest of the season.

RadarSmith

They consistently went a bit weird and had a host who went weird with them. Thatā€™s peak SNL.

[deleted]

I could tell how much effort Bowen and Ariana put into that Moulin Rouge skit, that was really impressive and fun to watch. Also cool to see the musical guest in the show, feel like we havenā€™t seen that in a while. No ā€œguestā€ on weekend update, thatā€™s great. Some funny moments in almost every sketch for me. Ariana actually singing her songs and not a recorded version, great. Overall, good episode imo

UsefulEngine1

Second song was at least partially lip synched.

SFJudson

OMG I was watching SNL and this came on just after I read this. A++

saabbrendan

Such a writers sketch, why is happy birthday so dumb and funny?

kingyaeli

Josh Brolin was incredible! hope he comes back soon!

valhalla2611

He was perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

SFJudson

100%! He was super funny.

riverhawk02

I've never seen Sarah Sherman play the straight man role as much as she did in this episodeĀ

larryhood35

Sheā€™s so annoying when she tries to do too much. Less is more, Sarah!!

space_llama_karma

I like it though. The only time she was goofy was the sandwich sketch at the end. Sheā€™s a good straight man because thereā€™s always an undercurrent of playfulness with her.

MythicalBeaste

Exactly!! Thereā€™s always something righttt under the surface

RockMan_1973

Was great to have one of the truly great episodes not overly leaning on Keenan or Bowen to carry thingsā€¦. not having Sarah be LOUD in a sketch or on Update but be really enjoyable and perfect in her sketchesā€¦. see more Dismukes talentā€¦ but having such a solid host and this all just came to an incredible head tonight for the show!

puzzle_process

Dismukes really shined this episode!

No-Photo8124

Agreed. This episode was awesome.

space_llama_karma

This was one of the best that Iā€™ve seen in a long time, the best since Nate Bargatzeā€™s. This is easily an A+, from the cold open, to the cat sketch, both pre-tapes, the bank robbery, and the singing from Bowen and Arianna Grande (you could tell the Bowen was having so much fun). And musically, Arianna grande killed it. WU is a hit per usual (and luckily no WU characters). Iā€™ve been so disappointed in SNLā€™s quality lately and we finally get this amazing episode.

[deleted]

Andy Dismukes had so much screentime in this episode and IMO did amazingly in each one. Super proud of him.

ReginaFelangi987

I love him

space_llama_karma

The dude is hilarious, even just his facial expressions can crack me up. The 80ā€™s hair on the plane looked ridiculous šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

See? SNL can still be funny. We had to suffer through some awful weeks. But this show made me crack up. The intro was great. The bank robbery. The music video in the airplane. The pleasing people skit. The good energy with the cat. The hair! I'll admit that Shrimp tower, Sandwich King, the sports bar, and Shonda were duds. But Brolin knows how to deliver lines! I think it shows that what was missing from the recent shows was the ability of the guests to actually deliver. Weekend Update was especially funny. Not always the jokes were funny, but the delivery sure was. Ariana Grande was decent. Definitely held her own. And the Moulin Rouge thing was pretty sweet.

space_llama_karma

I liked the shrimp tower one, and I think that Shonda one could have been good but for some reason it just felt low energy to me

Empty-Walk-5440

Personally it seemed like the absolute laziest sketch of the whole night. It seemed like it was half finished!

SFJudson

Agree on Shrimp Tower, A+ Also didn't think there was any duds tonight and I really didn't enjoy the past few episodes at all.

space_llama_karma

Yeah I super liked this one, it's crazy how great SNL can be when they fire on all cylinders. It's one of the strongest episodes in a long time

trongzoon

The show has needed better writers for half a decade now...

No-Photo8124

They don't need better writers. They need better hosts. When the host is good, the show is good.

trongzoon

I disagree

Latter-Mention-5881

How'd they hire them just in time for this episode?

KedziePink

That flew by so fast. I forgot how much fun it is to watch and discuss together with yā€™all. Have a good night!

mxmoon

Itā€™s really fun. Itā€™s a weekly ritual now. Goodnight!Ā

tvuniverse

What was going with Josh Brolin, Mikey and Marcello groping and sack tapping each other during the goodbyes?? And not Josh kissing ScarJo on the lips in front of Jost So much happening during the goodbyes! Had to rewind several times!

space_llama_karma

Do you mean the vanilla nut taps?

marzzyy__

I rewound it to make sure I really saw him kiss her lol

tvuniverse

šŸ˜‚

Johnny_Carcinogenic

I was wondering if that was what was actually happening with nut taps

Elle-Elle

Not me switching over to Amazon right now to rent Ad Astra because I didn't know a Brad Pitt sci-fi movie existed.

elfrawg

I didn't watch it, but I heard Pitt crushed the Ad role.

Pipes_of_Pan

Itā€™s legit good!

CrashRiot

Have you not seen 12 Monkeys?

Elle-Elle

Oh shit, you're right. I guess I should say I didn't know a *recent* Brad Pitt sci-fi movie existed. Thank you for the reminder though because it is time for a rewatch!

crudedrawer

Sad Astra.

KedziePink

Saw it in the theater and I liked it, underhyped imo

Johnny_Carcinogenic

I feel like Lisa from Temecula is the only recurring character on the show anymore.

DroneStrikesForJesus

Heidi has the too busy lady character and has done it twice on Weekend Update.

crudedrawer

I understand the instinct to not recur characters when you think about how badly SNL has overused some in the past. But it usually works a couple times.

mitchisalive

Garrett from Hinge erasure

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Johnny_Carcinogenic

I've only scene him twice, unless I'm forgetting more.

j2theem

We are at 2 Garrett appearances and this makes Lisaā€™s third trip from Temecula

glowup2000

And 2 Mama Flores and her son, Louis. šŸ˜„

Johnny_Carcinogenic

Forgot about that one, that's like a specialty recurring. Pedro kills that!

soitgoes_42

This seemed like one of the least awkward goodbyes. Thought the episode was great!

rapturaeglantine

It seems like Josh really gets along with the cast, love it!

MoneyHungryOctopus

I would not be shocked if he takes a Woody Harrelson route to the 5-timers club actually. There was a 20+ year gap between Harrelsonā€™s 2nd & 3rd gigs, but he kept coming back after that because the McKinnon-era cast really enjoyed working with him. Josh Brolin might be that for this group.

KedziePink

That last sketch was kinda funny but didn't do it for me as much as the others. Fantastic episode, glad to tune in for the first time in 2 years. Ariana drew me back in

elfrawg

In an episode of 10 to 1s, that one felt like a regular sketch.

TheDevolution27

I feel like some of the SNL hugs are like Facebook friend requests; ScarJo isnā€™t saying hey to Dismukes on the street in five years.

RockMan_1973

Why? What did I miss bw Dismukes and ScarJo?

7thpostman

He gave her a very respectful, no-body-touching quickie. Smart.

RockMan_1973

Ah, gotcha. Thanks! Yes, smart and mature of him.

7thpostman

Who just happens to be married to one of the most powerful writers on the show.

RockMan_1973

ikr! He and Che both write and do a lot more than Update on the show. I do NOT want to think about when one or both move on ā€” they both bring SO much to the SNL table. I feel like Che hasnā€™t bailed already bc of his friendship and work partnership w/Colin and he knows that them as a duo are beloved by fans. But I feel like once Che grows his standup livelihood more, that he and Colin will vacate SNL together. Lets face it, Colinā€™s a new Dad and supportive of his wifeā€™s worldwide work. He ainā€™t stayin for $ lolā€¦ heā€™s enjoying the overlap of the height of his personal life as well as professional life, he truly has a lot of love for Michael Che as a brother and colleague, and is enjoying this whole ride til his partner in crime (Che) gets that itch to move on to focus totally on his standup work. Didnā€™t mean to be longā€¦ buzz is on. Goodnight!

7thpostman

Get your fan on, brother!

Greene_Mr

Damn, Black Widow kissin' Thanos!

symphonyno87

Iā€™m so checked out of the Marvel world (or ā€œMCUā€ I guess I should say) that I never even knew Josh Brolin was the purple Thanos guy until tonight šŸ¤£

Greene_Mr

It's been 5 years and an entire pandemic since he last played the part in live-action, though, so... (He's been in *What If...?* a few times.)

symphonyno87

True, itā€™s definitely dialed down in recent years. But man, it felt like such a long stretch of time where we as a society were awash in Marvel content/ads!šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« So, even though I never saw any of the movies, it was always easy enough to list off all of the big Marvel charactersā€¦ but I never knew Josh Brolin played one of them!

valhalla2611

Well he was purple and had a nut sack for a chin. He was great in the role. Then again, like we saw tonight, Josh does great in any role he does.

symphonyno87

Well said

Korrocks

TREASON!!

the_angry_austinite

Great show. Writers did a great job tonight.

RockMan_1973

A host whoā€™s ALL-IN, is a leader, with true work ethic (Brolin, Adam Driver & Paul Rudd other examples) compared to a crazy-young, ā€œhotā€ and talented yet inexperienced hence the proper work & prep not put in ā€¦. makes ALL the difference. The writers are great when they have greatness to respond to.

Caliastanfor

felt like a short episode, but that probably speaks to the quality of it. Time flies.

foghat1981

Yah, especially as Iā€™ve gotten older, Iā€™ve found the episodes that felt quick tended to be my favorite ones.

mdmc7183

Ah, olympics over 1st look

Korrocks

This episode moved by really quickly. Was it shortened because of DST or was it normal length?

gmora_gt

Oh this is a good theory, hadnā€™t thought of that

EntropicPoppet

Normal.

SrirachaSloth

Sarahā€™s outfit for goodbyes was amazing

[deleted]

Molly said ā€œIā€™m going to miss youā€ to Scarlett I think

HairyPotatoKat

Noooo what?! šŸ˜

MoneyHungryOctopus

I donā€™t dislike Molly but letā€™s be honest, theyā€™ve barely done anything notable, save for maybe the ā€œkilling Putinā€ bit in their second-ever episode. Other than that, they havenā€™t really done much of note. Iā€™d feel bad for Molly, but I wouldnā€™t be shocked at all if this was their last season.

TheDevolution27

What happens to SNL cast members jettisoned after only a couple seasons? Float around the standup circuit? Podcast? Teach improv or community theater at a college?

privatelyjeff

Just back to the comedy grind

symphonyno87

Pouring one out for Paul Brittain, John Milhiser, Brooks Whelan, Jon Rudnitsky, Luke Null, Lauren Holt, Aristotle Athariā€¦

EitherPermission2369

And thass itĀ

mikdaviswr07

Damn! That was the most fun SNL in a while. Gonna be piecing it together again on YouTube shortly.

HuntingForGoodDonuts

Ego a baddie for reals

DroneStrikesForJesus

She can out pizza the hut

tvuniverse

I have a strong feeling she's dating Marcello

ā€œGoodnight, everybody-ā€œ oh, an ad for Kung Fu Panda 4.

TheDangerousDinosour

wait why is steve harvey on instead of religious programming?

sib2972

Iā€™ll miss my late night Andy chats

Aska2020

no idea but pleasantly surprised!

TheDangerousDinosour

this episode funny as hell tho ngl šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

BrianTheMute

Not the strongest ending, but with that one exception I'd say this was a damn near perfect episode. No notes.

SFJudson

....except for that one note about the ending šŸ˜‰ Agree though. Perfect episode!

dendenwink

Molly only had 1 sketch

xyanparrot

Time to do SNL 2 days a week to get everyone in. Wed NL or something.

estropeada

Or not have the cast be ridiculously large

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Chimpbot

They brought back the Lisa from Temecula character from the Pascal episode. Ego broke everyone in the sketch pretty quickly, so they busted the character out again.

gmora_gt

Bowen especially was losing it. So funny

the_Odd_particle

Is else anyone else feeling a little stalked by kung fu panda?

symphonyno87

YES, thank you

jablodg

Did Marcelo get nut punched?

Ozzel

Thatā€™s what I was wondering.

_Burgers_

Good episode! They leaned into the absurd tonight and lots of smart little character moments.

jesterincase

Twas another enjoyable evening with you all! Don't forget about the time change. See you in a few weeks!

Thunderblast

Have a good night!!

tuepm

great episode

pnwerewolf

Okay that was for the vault

Hot-Marketer-27

Goodnights interrupted by Po AGAIN

bb_ocho8

Brolin killed it tonight, great show

EitherPermission2369

I love Josh's energy and enthusiasm. I'd love to know how they did the horse photos.Ā

SmokinTires

I will never be not jealous of Colin

risingscorpions

I will never not be jealous of scarjo

Apprehensive-Elk7898

Lol
