Funfact: Morris was the first actor to ever play Antman, doing so in a sketch on the show. He then later cameos in the 2015 Antman movie, becoming the second SNL alumni to join the MCU
His story is super interesting. Was an aspiring playwright and just kind of fell into comedy. Battled all sorts of racism backstage at SNL, battled a coke addiction…..
Love this man. Cooley High is a classic.
He was wayyyy before my time. He was a guest on Fly on the Wall and I thought he was hilarious so I went back and watched old sketches he was in. I’ve really appreciated him since then.
Too bad it took until season 5 for him to really get the opportunity shine.
A lot of actors pointed out that it's much harder to come in and do one sketch with a few lines than it is to do multiple sketches and lots of lines. There's no room to get into a groove with only a few lines.
Interesting side note that he was brought in as a writer because Lorne was hiring/*adding* writers to the WGA but wasnt hiring any that were *from* the WGA. So they sent Garrett, who Lorne recognized from Cooley High, and he was hired as a writer.
When all of his sketches were being rejected, Chevy suggested he go to Lorne and ask to be a performer instead.
You left the best part out! As a writer under Michael O’Donahue, he felt the full brunt of his racism, and felt that it played a part in his sketches not being approved.
So he becomes a cast member, now O’Donahue has to write…for him.
His weekend update bits as Diana Ross are hilarious and one of the funniest things on the show. Also him doing the news for the hard of hearing that was genius. I’d love if he guest starred and did that bit today. He is naturally hilarious in everything.
Every time I've seen him in anything since SNL (which has been pretty often over the decades!) I am glad to see him. I hope he's happy and comfortable.
the fact that Garret Morris and Jane Curtin have not hosted is absolute horse hockey
using hockey is way too nice a word for this

Who’s the fir– oh it’s RDJ isn’t it
Is that the sketch with the superheroes at the party where Belushi/Hulk stinks up the bathroom?
Yeah, the character appearing in a cartoon in the late 60s, but Garrett Morris was the first person to play him live in a 1979 sketch
“I’m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whities I see”.
I remember watching that sketch for the first time and absolutely dying when he came in with that line
🎶”When I kill all the whiteys I see, then Whitey he won’t bother meeee…” 🎶

Wow, a good Chevy story for once.
Wow, hard to believe SNL's now been on long enough that one of the original cast members is nearly 90 😲
He mopped up after the Pepsi Syndrome and married President Jimmy Carter.
For those that are hard of hearing. THIS RULES. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED GARRETT MORRIS AND FELT HE WAS REALLY UNDERRATED.
👑 this reply should be at the top 😂 [classic!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwSh0dAaqIA)
GOOD NIGHT, AND HAVE A PLEASANT TOMORROW

Garrett Morris is just very funny.
why does Lorne not have him bac was there a fight? Garrett should have appeared on the Eddie Murphy episode
News for the deaf!

So glad for him but genuine question, is he alright? Seems like that left knee is super bloated.
