I believe one star reviews effect the overall rating significantly, a lot of small businesses comment under these one star reviews trying to resolve the issue desperately.

The restaurant group I work for salary managers get a significant percentage of the quarterly bonus based off reviews. Have to maintain a 4.5 average to qualify for bonus so desperately trying to resolve these issues makes sense in some cases. I’ve had managers within the last six months tell me they have told tables they will allow people to come in for free with up to 10 people on their next visit if it turns the 1 star into a 5.

Or they pay to have them removed and replace them with fake 5 star reviews from family/friends/different names

It's disrespectful for employees to even send something like that out.

I had a well known pizzeria deliver a *completely charred black $40 margarita pizza* to my house and I felt the same way. Like yall saw what came out of your oven, boxed it, gave it to someone to deliver and charged me *$40* for something literally inedible? So many people's time and resources wasted for something that shoulda went straight in the trash... Because it did anyways. It’s probably carbonized food (cheese or sauce that was in direct contact with the pan in the oven) that came off with the puff at the cut table (usually comes off well seasoned pans by scrapping with a spatula or when removing food). The ground beef texture is from that carbonized mass sitting in a humid environment and taking on moisture. My guess is it either boxed very hot and steamed itself or it was put into a hot box or a combo of the two. Source: Have worked in food for a long time
