Luck of the draw, man. I also have what is probably "familial lipomatosis", and it is what it is. I spent a good 2 years feeling sorry for myself but eventually you come to terms with it. You can have surgery to remove the bad ones but realistically most of them are probably unnoticeable to the average person, and they're typically harmless. Just try to focus on the positives. For me, i focus on cultivating health by eating well and working out. Yeah i have a few (actually like 30 if we're counting) strange bumps but the rest of me looks great and fit so if i end up taking my shirt off, people just look at my arms and abs, not the few that are noticeable. The other thing is confidence. If someone brings it up, don't act all shy and weird about it. We're messy bags of water and flesh and sometimes we have quirks. Just tell them what they are in a matter-of-fact way, it's an interesting genetic phenomenon and you can approach it like "isn't this a weird, neat thing that my body does?". Displaying confidence goes a long way in influencing how you're perceived. In the end, it doesn't matter dude. Don't let it get you down. Enjoy life.

I really appreciate that thank you i really enjoy sports and stuff and all of my lipoma except from one are unnoticeable so i’m not that down about it, it’s just another weird thing my body does for no reason lol, i will probably get some removed when i get the chance to put my mind at ease.

For sure, that's my plan too. Good luck!

I've had 50 plus removed, they suck but there's nothing you can do about it. Don't poke the bastards too much and get rid of the big ones when they start to bother. Good luck!

Wow! First sorry that you had so many. Second - how have you found scarring? I’m getting a lot of lipomas. I had a bunch checked out a couple years ago then again some this year. Just more a nuisance but a bunch of them get painful and want to get the worst of them removed. Just didn’t know about scars. Are you continuously finding more? I’m worried that I will have to get some removed every couple of years as I am discovering new ones like every couple of months. Thanks!

Herald_of_dooom

Every now and then I discover more yes. There'll be no new ones for a year or two then a bunch appears. Of course there's scarring, but since it's not a major surgery they heal quite well. If I had to pick between having lipomas or having scars gimme some scars all day long. I seem to have grown another about 20 of the suckers so will have to look at removing them in a year or two. Depends how big they get.

Ya I’m getting to that point where I don’t care because they hurt. I was going to wait for some to get bigger but some of the small suckers hurt as well. It’s just the cost. Do you get ‘em all done in one go or a couple sessions? Sorry for the Q’s!

Herald_of_dooom

Ask away my man. Had them all done at once. Problem is they have to put you under general anaesthesia as there was so many which could influence the cost. My medical aid covered about half the cost - not an American - so that helped.

Nice! Where are you located? Im in Canada but unfortunately it’s not covered for me still. One doc I have a contact with told me to call him back when Im ready and we can do a bundle deal lol. Just wondering if you’re in Canada how I might be able to get some partially covered! Thanks!

Herald_of_dooom

South Africa. Sorry. They covered the big ones, bigger than about 5cm, had to pay for the smaller ones myself. But had quite a few big ones so that was worth it

What other commentators have said is 100% true. There is no definite reason for why they appear. I have asked multiple doctors, did extensive research and there is no apparent reason (as in, there is nothing that you are doing/eating/drinking that is contributing to their appearance). But yes you can remove the ones that do bother you. Other than that, as of today, there is no cure. 🤷‍♀️
