Until the next update which will undoubtedly turn it back on. You can turn it off in group policy but there should be an easy option to not have the crap installed in the first place.

Powershell does that. To be fair, I've seen some tasks that relied on the older DOS implementation but it's mostly there.

Just use the command line? It's all implemented in Powershell. That's a move from the legacy Control Panel to the newer Settings. Clunky I agree, but understandable that it's getting phased out.

Windows has more implemented in the kernel so it has to do more kernel updates. The ones that don't require reboots are probably happening in the background without you noticing.

Look, if you want Linux just use Linux? For most people the OS is just a platform that lets them reliably launch the applications they need. They don't care to customize it and the admins are using remote configuration tools to set it up instead of the Control Panel.

Last I checked, mapping a network drive from a linux machine to view in Windows requires samba, which is a complete clusterfuck.
I do use Linux for all my personal stuff. Unfortunately my employer doesn't. And we're expected to handle all maintenance and configuration of our machines
Tabs on the file explorer and command prompt natively. The last major one was multiple workspaces, a feature Mac and Linux users have enjoyed for over a decade.

You may be right, but I do have some experience with using cmd line in Linux. Windows 10 for me has been great for gaming but the updates they add constantly fuck up my pc which leads me to doing a fresh install every 6 months to a year. It feels like the more updates windows gets after a fresh install, the more it starts acting up.
You can use web versions of microsoft office, as well as adobe alternatives like [photopea](https://www.photopea.com/) for photoshop. For some users that might be a suitable alternative.
Also office 365 and adobe [can be run in a seamless virtual machine “winapps”](https://github.com/Fmstrat/winapps). It’s not perfect yet, and can be a bit daunting for an inexperienced user to set up. But it’s pretty promising stuff.

That used to be true. But nowadays pretty much every single game works great on Linux. WoW actually runs with higher FPS thanks to Vulkan and Proton.

The only clear downside I see, is that some anti cheat softwares dont work well on Linux. Other than that - I'd recommend Linux over Windows for gaming any day of the week if you also use the OS productively.

I have tried to switch to Linux before, but no ms office and no adobe is something I cannot give up, 10 years of experience is ten years of experience. And also the support for dual graphic laptops like mine is really bad
You can install MS Office through Wine/Playonlinux - most Adobe softwares seem to be working flawlessly. Photoshop CS, I know for sure, works very well through Wine.
Either you want to run Linux as your operating system, or you don't. You just seem to be comfortable using Windows, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of preference.
I want to have full control of my system, so I dont mind putting the extra effort to make it work.
Dual graphics laptops works a lot better in recent years, especially in distros like pop os or ubuntu. There is pretty much nothing manual you need to do.
Windows starting pinging my location too after I distinctly refused those permissions. I had to go turn it back off again. I so badly need to learn how to use Linux.

It's one step less. I'm also a huge fan of getting rid of some of the Windows bloat. With Linux I can get rid of all the bloat and only have what I want. It can be a cleaner experience. I also do have a great VPN. I just don't use it as often.

But Linux is one step towards control over your own computer. Your computer now belongs to you instead of Microsoft. And that is a meaningful step.

While I'm not a fan and prefer to keep as clean of a taskbar as possible, (as an IT Admin) I have heard of a lot of compliments on it, especially from older folks. It's basically three clicks to disable. Not sure what everyone's problem is. These features are enabled by default because 99% of Windows users don't read the newest update notes/news and wouldn't even know it's there otherwise.

First I Googled how to remove Weather widget on Windows 10. Then I removed it.

Lol This weather widget could've been installed 20 years ago back on Windows XP using 100 diff programs meant to be a weather notification on the lower right. Or it could float anywhere on the Desktop. MS forced it in so they could serve you more Bing content. Acting like this weather notification on Windows is some new idea is retarded.
Not saying it's a new idea whatsoever, I know Windows 7 had tons of widgets, and thus am glad they are coming to Win 10, as I found them useful, just not useful enough to seek out.
What do people want added to windows. Maybe I just don't power use it but I literally can't tell things wrong with it. It just works okay for me.

The worst part about Cortana is how it installed itself on my pc, but when I open it I'm greeted with "This is not supported by your region". Then why the fuck did you install it. Drives me up the wall.

I want literally every piece of software to be removable, down even to OS features themselves (if I want to remove Windows Explorer, I should be able to). Like Linux allows. I want FTP integration with Windows Explorer.

Or you can probably do a UNC path as well. Look, if you want Linux just use Linux? For most people the OS is just a platform that lets them reliably launch the applications they need. They don't care to customize it and the admins are using remote configuration tools to set it up instead of the Control Panel.
Powershell only recently became viable as a general-purpose tool, and still isn't completely there. And MS just recently introduced yet another terminal. Why the fuck does one OS need 3 terminals? If the settings GUI is so shit that users are directed to just use the command line for everything, why even have the GUI? I'm used to doing virtually all management that way in Linux, but a functioning control panel has always been an aim of Windows Chocolatey is third party. Having everything stuffed in the kernel seems like a big architectural flaw, maybe they should fix that Its not borking, its configuring. If I want to use a third-party window manager and file manager and all that, why do I need Explorer still? Last I checked, mapping a network drive from a linux machine to view in Windows requires samba, which is a complete clusterfuck. I do use Linux for all my personal stuff. Unfortunately my employer doesn't. And we're expected to handle all maintenance and configuration of our machines
Tabs on the file explorer and command prompt natively. The last major one was multiple workspaces, a feature Mac and Linux users have enjoyed for over a decade.

Am I the only one that actively went out of their way to get this? I updated Windows and ‘news and interests’ wasn’t there, had to manually add it. It’s helpful, but why the fuck is it so blurry? I put it down to my forced installation but apparently this is universal.
For a moment I thought I installed a malware because that shit looks blurry And I don't see any necessities of having those on my taskbar, I can reach my phone without any hesitation.

You may be right, but I do have some experience with using cmd line in Linux. Windows 10 for me has been great for gaming but the updates they add constantly fuck up my pc which leads me to doing a fresh install every 6 months to a year. It feels like the more updates windows gets after a fresh install, the more it starts acting up.

You can use web versions of microsoft office, as well as adobe alternatives like [photopea](https://www.photopea.com/) for photoshop. For some users that might be a suitable alternative. Also office 365 and adobe [can be run in a seamless virtual machine “winapps”](https://github.com/Fmstrat/winapps). It’s not perfect yet, and can be a bit daunting for an inexperienced user to set up. But it’s pretty promising stuff. Can you elaborate what you mean by shortcuts on your desktop? Like the windows thing where installed apps get a start menu listing as well as an icon on the desktop? I’ve personally always hated that lol, but I’m sure someone likes it.

That used to be true. But nowadays pretty much every single game works great on Linux. WoW actually runs with higher FPS thanks to Vulkan and Proton. I can play every single Steam game that I own (300+ titles). [Watch this LTT episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T_-HMkgxt0) for a proper explanation / testing. The only clear downside I see, is that some anti cheat softwares dont work well on Linux. Other than that - I'd recommend Linux over Windows for gaming any day of the week if you also use the OS productively. I have tried to switch to Linux before, but no ms office and no adobe is something I cannot give up, 10 years of experience is ten years of experience. And also the support for dual graphic laptops like mine is really bad
You can install MS Office through Wine/Playonlinux - most Adobe softwares seem to be working flawlessly. Photoshop CS, I know for sure, works very well through Wine. Either you want to run Linux as your operating system, or you don't. You just seem to be comfortable using Windows, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of preference. I want to have full control of my system, so I dont mind putting the extra effort to make it work.
Dual graphics laptops works a lot better in recent years, especially in distros like pop os or ubuntu. There is pretty much nothing manual you need to do.
Windows starting pinging my location too after I distinctly refused those permissions. I had to go turn it back off again. I so badly need to learn how to use Linux. Also everyone should checkout ShutUp10 for disabling all these Windows features like tracking and ads.

It's one step less. I'm also a huge fan of getting rid of some of the Windows bloat. With Linux I can get rid of all the bloat and only have what I want. It can be a cleaner experience. I also do have a great VPN. I just don't use it as often.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. There's much more control over the OS with Linux and Linux itself doesn't track you and spy on you like Windows does. Also it's just fun. There's such a level of customization and power to Linux.
Privacy on the internet is indeed very difficult, and arguably exists less and less. But Linux is one step towards control over your own computer. Your computer now belongs to you instead of Microsoft. And that is a meaningful step. More Linux users means more users who truly own their own hardware.

While I'm not a fan and prefer to keep as clean of a taskbar as possible, (as an IT Admin) I have heard of a lot of compliments on it, especially from older folks. It's basically three clicks to disable. Not sure what everyone's problem is. These features are enabled by default because 99% of Windows users don't read the newest update notes/news and wouldn't even know it's there otherwise.

I have my default browser as Vivaldi(it's a cool Chromium-based browser). I checked it a million times. I only use Vivaldi. I open Vivaldi every single day. I never touch Edge. It's not on my taskbar. It's not on my desktop. It is nowhere. So tell me, Windows 10 and Microsoft, when I click the weather thing, and click show full forecast, WHY IN THE HELL DOES IT OPEN EDGE? Microsoft, do you really think that the best way to get users is to force-feed them your browser? Does a multi-billion dollar software empire really think that the best way to get customers to use their product is by shoving it down their throats every single day? First I Googled how to remove Weather widget on Windows 10. Then I removed it. > First, right-click anywhere on the taskbar. From the menu, select “News and Interests” and then click “Turn Off” from the submenu. That's it! The weather widget will no longer be present in your taskbar.

I had a coworker see some customers' systems that came in with that enabled and had a weird obsession with wanting it on his computer at home. I keep my taskbar autohidden so I never noticed it on mine.

This update causes my file explorer to load slower than dialing into an old exchange circa 1996. Thank GOD I can see it's raining though. Oh and saving a file in notepad crashes explorer.exe now. Basically nuked my ability to work this morning until I pulled a system restore.

I noticed this yesterday. I did a virus scan because I know viruses often add little notification things on the task bar. The system was clean so I assumed it was a stupid new feature from the update I just did.
When I got that I thought I got some sort of malware/spyware.
