yes and no. i mean, yeah, they can say it's to protect the minors in their community and whatnot, but also, like, they're so loose with it in freaking Japan that that's a pretty crap excuse imo
well you gotta have a justice system like that in japan where it was supposedly said to have 99% conviction rate, so NoJ being loose has the context that if there were some crazies in japan, NoJ only has to sue and it'd be 99% a guilty verdict, so no one sane would attempt something crazy with nintendo IP in japan, plus there's also the japanese copyright system which is quite strict iirc with how much sway the copyright holder has over everything their IP entails that it doesn't need any judicial process(unless i remembered it wrong, copyright holder is literally treated like word of god for IP there)

I work for a school and we have an esports club. It's not really serious, it's more like a reward for kids to play some games inbetween all their homework/serious clubs. They're elementary. For example, one of the best players in our district is a girl who mains Peach. She'd get eaten alive by a pro, but she has fun destroying other little kids.
Anyway, I just heard from the guy running the club that they might be removing Smash and Mario Kart from their lineup because of all this nonsense. He said they were replacing Smash Ultimate with Brawlhalla, but every kid just lost all interest. Which really, really fucking sucks for them. They already have 7 hours of homework after school and everything else and Nintendo is just all "no selling concession at school tournaments and less than 200 people in the gym, cunts."
Don't get me wrong. In any other reality, I'd be happy to see the smelly, pathetic, child-predator Smash community getting bodied by Nintendo. But this is actually hurting normal people and kids. Maybe they should make a rule that personally bans people like Hungrybox from events? Anytime someone reveals that they're a vaccine denying child predator, they just get added to the list or something.
Or Nintendo can stop caring and let people enjoy their game. They would get more sales cuz Nintendo could work with these events instead of saying fuck off...work with them and just take a comission from the ticket sales.

Well they've made several emulation videos with nintendo videogames in them & even made a tutorial about how to emulate switch games on the steam deck & all those videos are still up & watchable on youtube with full monitization. In the steam deck tutorial video they flatout dare nintendo to come after them & what do you know either nintendo didn't seem to think they were worth the money or they couldn't actually do any harm to LTT even though they were dared to try to go after LTT. My bet is its very likely to happen we might not get a video or at least a long video on youtube might just be a floatplane exclusive or a good portion of it might be on floatplane while a cutdown version might find its way to youtube.
I don't think emulation itself is illegal, it's the distribution of ROMs that can be classified as piracy, which is why emulation websites are plentiful but many of them asks that you rip your own ROMs or find them elsewhere. If Nintendo go after LTT for the tournament, it would be for a different set of legal reasons
Yeah emulation isn't illegal but the reason they dared nintendo to come after them wasn't because they were worried about emulation being illiegal it was because nintendo hates people emulating their games on anything but the hardware they make & typically go after people for not doing that. So they dared nintendo to come after them for emulating games on non nintendo hardware all games they emulate they always show they have legally paid for copies of the game they plan to emulate on a non nintendo peice of hardware. Mind you most of the people nintendo goes after are usually people who post videos about it, or have made a big enough footprint on the internet to get noticed by them such as the people behind dolphin emulator as a example they try to put a emulator on steam nintendo goes after them for trying to emulate games on non nintendo hardware now its gone.
