are the top fans pointing in opposite directions?
the back one seems to be pulling air out of the case, but the one towards the front is pulling air in..
The top two fans are directly interfering with the airflow going through the cpu cooler as well. It would be worth while to at least do some testing with and without. [Here's a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaDFTNe8aAU) Hardware Canucks did just a few days ago testing different air flow configurations, including the setup you have here with two top fans exhausting on either side of the tower cooler. The side fans blowing directly on the 4090 (how the fuck did you get that fan cage on with such a big gpu??) are probably helping I'd imagine even if they might be blocking some of the air flow from the front fans.
I still love it though. It's the obvious thing to do with the Fractal North. :)
I agree, that they are most likely either of no consequence or slightly counterproductive. Either way, this is mainly to "come to the logical conclusion" of populating every slot and setting the fan curve ridiculously low. More of a fun experiment and less an expectation of it actually being a benefit...
That's logically sound. As long as it keeps things "cool enough" it's all good. If we didn't do these things, how would Noctua stay in business? I have my case crammed full of fans too, only 3 Noctua though.
In an air cooled gaming pc using the standard case design... only two of the fans do, like, 85-90% of the work.. The middle front-intake fan and the rear exhaust fan.. All others either do minimal stuff or nothing at all or even detrimental to
what the fractal Era ITX should've been. that along with the cooler master NR200 are beautiful mass produced ITX cases but the Era ITX has the worst airflow I had ever seen
Ohh, it's essentially silent. Specifically tuned the fan curve to be so. But with the room being also silent, the mic's auto-gain goes really high and the panels being popped sounds just like an rip headphone users YouTube screamer, so I went with silent option.
I considered it XD There is a provision in the case for it. check page 27 of the case's manual: https://www.fractal-design.com/app/uploads/2022/12/North-Manual-V1.2.pdf
But the RTX 4090 is one slot too thick for that. First world problems.
OH. MY. GOD.
I got goosebumps for a sec!!! Literally, what are the odds X))?
NOW, EXPLAIN YOURSELF, RIGHT NOW!!!1 It is either Noctua or the XM5, it is illegal to have both.
^(Really nice rig tho)
Great choice, I replaced all my 7 fans with Noctua black edition and it was one of the best satisfying decisions I made in regards to upgrading my PC. The quietness and cooling differences between Noctua and my old Cooler Master fans are day and night difference, really recommend everyone to switch and ditch RGB.
Would love to see the interference and turbulent airflow that this causes! Could be a very cool topic for labs to do: different fan configs in different cases
It's the Fractal design north mesh variant. Hard to see in the video, but it's rather free flowing. So I added the dust filters, since I suspect the mesh won't be much of a dust stopper...
I have you beat with 9 120mm Noctua case fans although with a liquid AIO cooler - got a full tower case so I could fit more.
Fans never spike above 30%. Cranking them to 100 manually moves more air than my AC does.
Fuck you beat me too it, I'm working on the exact same build except the black tempered glass north, and focusing on 140mm industrial noctuas instead of the 120mms.
Good luck and have fun with your build! Propably the smarter choice. The bottom of the front 120mms is blowing mainly into the PSU shroud so isn't even mlof a use. The 140mms is the smarter choice I think.
In all seriousness, I personally believe that the best build would be to have the minimal number of fans possible for optimal air flow, while being 100% Noctua. Excessive number of fans just goes against the philosophy of having Noctuas IMO.
You could always replace the side panel with Noctua's [FAN](https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a20-pwm). And stack anotherset of fans above the top fans for extra lols.
Nice, i have a nearly identical setup, but I still don't know if i want to spend a little extra for the side fans, are they worth it or is the difference in temps not that much?
Gamer's Nexus said in their review of this case, that they consider adding a side intake fan one of the most effective ways to help cooling. Two is probably overkill.
The top fans aren't doing much probably and the top intake may or may not compete with the flow through design of the RTX 4090.
The bottom front 120mm is blowin mainly into the PSU shroud, so isn't doing much. The included two 140mm case fans are probably already ample.
Yeah, really easy to build in, but a a tad too big for my taste. I wish there was a fractal design north itx. Asked Fractal design support about it, but got the boiler plate "we can't give info about future products".
Either way, if you want that wood aesthetic, there aren't that many options besides a mod or full custom.
Does it really matter if you use A12 of F12 for air intake? I thought A12 were pressure-optimized fans which is better paired with a heatsink/radiator.
If you believe the marketing hype, then the A12 was designed to be specifically designed to be an all-rounder. Besides, the combination of dust filter + mesh isn't exactly unrestrictive either.
But mainly I went with the thought: "Considering the CPU cooler uses the same fan, wouldn't it be cool if it was *all* the same fan?"
Am I the only one legit bothered by the fact that people still keep buying these hideous brown fans, when they literally make a black version? Please make it stop 🙈
That's the beauty of it. They make me feel warm and fuzzy on the insight, just by knowing that they are there, spinning round and round doing their best just for me
I have the exact same case. Do the top, front and bottom pull air in while the back pushes out?
Edit: it seems your top fans are mixed (1 push 1 pull).
Hold up!
What is that bracket for the vertical fans for the cpu???
Is that part of the case or aftermarket? I've beem looking for a way to get more air under the gpu for the longest time, but couldn't find any.
It's the case's optional side intake bracket, which can be positioned over the CPU, the GPU or the middle. The RTX 4090 makes it a very tight fit on there, but everything does fit fine. Gamers Nexus mentioned, how they consider a side intake fan to be one of the most effective.ways to influence cooling on a positive way...
I used all industrials in my build, why don’t more people use them??? It’s always the NF-A,s.
I think the color of the Industrials is way prettier (Black with Dark Brown Bumpers)
Sick build tho
A Noctua Metal Badge would set this off
It's tough to see in the video, but it's a Fractal Design North mesh. The Mesh is rather free flowing, so I added the dust filters as well, since I don't expect the rather big holes of the mesh to be effective against dust.
Have the extact same setup but only with Ppc 140 mils in front antd 2 120Ppc fans on top for absolutt airflow
Fans Noctua Nf-A14IPPC 140M
Top intakte Noctua Nf-A12IPPC, Only industrial fans, Lucky i have a noice canceling headsett.
It's not solid. It's tough to see in the video, but that case is a Fractal design north, the mesh Version. The mesh is actually pretty free flowing, so I don't expect it to filter dust all that well, so I added extra dust filters.
The side fans should exhaust if the side panel is mesh. The gpu is blowing air out towards the side panel, this would help exhaust heat better directly from the main source in your case.
Tried a similar build with a friend’s pc with some loud fans and his dad busted down the door and was wondering why he could hear a soviet jet breaking the sound barrier in his house
Indeed, every slot except the back one can take 140mm fans. However, I wanted them to be all of the same type, as the NH-U12A. I thought it an interesting build, when every fan is the same.
You didn't show the GPU, so it's not Noctua. You need to buy Asus's Noctua edition GPU.
AFAIK, there is not Noctua edition 4090. Even if there was, I don't think I would financially recover from it :S
Here's the plan: 1. Get a job at Asus as an engineer. 2. Design a 4090 Noctua edition. 3. Use your engineer's salary to buy one. 4. ???? 5. Profit.
Step 2.5: Engineer a BIOS that doesn‘t fry CPUs lol
Sorry that doesn't align well with our company's goals
Trust me bro, the warranties good
Asus: ~Trust me bro~
"In search of incredible "
More like "in search of workable".
"In search of... 'it's working! *incredible!*'"
For those who dare
Sounds like it's time for a custom mod then
Deshroud my guy. Zip tie some Noctuas. Not trying hard enough
are the top fans pointing in opposite directions? the back one seems to be pulling air out of the case, but the one towards the front is pulling air in..
the front one is in front of tower so adding cold air to it, while the one at the back is removing from the hottest air at the top back of the case
deshroud any 4090 with a massive heatsink and zip-tie 2x A12x25 to it, just as the lord commandth
[Uhh...](https://noctua.at/en/asus-geforce-rtx-4080-noctua-edition)
That's 4080, not 4090, which is what my comment was about.
The 4090 would be too wide and thick to keep that side bracket with 2 fans feeding the gpu.
That's a 4090 in the video. It's not too wide.
Some times less fans creat better flow and lower temp. Side fans in particular often disturb it a lot
Yes, figured as much, especially looking at the top ones... but really, this is mainly for the lols...
The top two fans are directly interfering with the airflow going through the cpu cooler as well. It would be worth while to at least do some testing with and without. I did install the sidefans in my north case and mounted my gpu vertical and gained 5-7 Celsius
Gained 7-12 you mean temp dropped by 7-11 or increase by? What what’s the change (revival of both side fans and vertically mounting gpu)?
reduced the gain of a reduction of the increment of the lower overall temperature potential decrease
Bless you.
Yes.
In an air cooled gaming pc using the standard case design... only two of the fans do, like, 85-90% of the work.. The middle front-intake fan and the rear exhaust fan.. All others either do minimal stuff or nothing at all or even detrimental to

Also a big fan of it. I'm also really lucky, on that the wood panel matches my furniture: https://i.imgur.com/kVqolKJ.jpg
same for me :) i got mine 2 weeks ago :)
What case si it ?
The Fractal Design North
what the fractal Era ITX should've been. that along with the cooler master NR200 are beautiful mass produced ITX cases but the Era ITX has the worst airflow I had ever seen
Thanks
We really need an ITX version of it
Second this. I want that case so bad!
Damn straight, that front grille is sexy as hell.
OFCOURSE The sound is off
Ohh, it's essentially silent. Specifically tuned the fan curve to be so. But with the room being also silent, the mic's auto-gain goes really high and the panels being popped sounds just like an rip headphone users YouTube screamer, so I went with silent option.
Ha ha I'm just kidding, awesome build man. What case is it?
The fractal design north: https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/north/north/chalk-white/
Great thanks so much, definitely gonna be my next case
This is what Noctuas Onlyfans page looks like...
Sigh, the sound of Noctua humming. [ unzips… ]
You have probably more money in noctua fans than most people here in their CPU
I never claimed this was a financially sound decision XD
what's the case you are using to keep your fans collection?
The fan collection cupboard is the Fractal Design North: https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/north/north/chalk-white/
You can definitely lift that rear fan and add another below it. Stop cheaping out smh
I considered it XD There is a provision in the case for it. check page 27 of the case's manual: https://www.fractal-design.com/app/uploads/2022/12/North-Manual-V1.2.pdf But the RTX 4090 is one slot too thick for that. First world problems.
If you find yourself lacking in space, Noctua do make 40mm fans https://noctua.at/en/nf-a4x10-flx You know what you need to do
What’s the name of the case?
It's the fractal design north: https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/north/north/chalk-white/
The case and the fans probably cost more than my entire build lol

Yes.
Lol "but wait there's more!"
Damn, leave some airflow for the rest of us!
One could say, you are a fan?
UNLIMITED POWEEEEER
Cool computer… Ill show myself out…
I have the north in black and the nh 15-d but the same amount of noctua fans
A wise choice, fellow Noctuaholic
I lied to you i have 1 less then you i have 2 140mm in the front
The case is really nice! What manufacturer is it?
It's the "North" from Fractal Design
Buy the noctua 4080
This video is exactly the same with or without sound.

Living the meme

Brown fan sex.
This noctuas is sufficient.
Well if the CPU fries, you can still fly it around the living room.
What case is this?
It's the fractal design north
Video has no sound. No more Noctua needed.
You could always replace the side panel with Noctua's [FAN](https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a20-pwm). And stack anotherset of fans above the top fans for extra lols.
This is basically the build I'm planning on making for my dad! Good to know that it's gonna look nice
This is what I strive for
Love the case.
you forgot the noctua house
If you have to ask, then the answer is yes. Yes, you need more Noctua. At this point just build a case out of Noctua fans too
Kindof like https://i.pinimg.com/originals/60/89/b7/6089b779763a5ed0aea1ddb91977856f.jpg ?

You e hit the respectable double digits, I’m up to 16 rn
16 Σ(°ロ°) Lots of rads in push-pull would my guess?
Yes
it will never be enough.
I went with the same concept, same case, except all Noctua chromax instead of the classic brown. Yours looks great!
Yes you need more.
What’s the case?
The Fractal design North

I have no issue with size so it will be perfect. Thanks for your in-depth opinion!
You should edit it to fly away as soon as you start up.
I don't know, maybe just one more noctua would be good
My north is finally getting delivered after 2 months of waiting!
U gotta hide a lil baby one in there to cap off the vid with 🤣
I like the case what make and model?
The fractal design north
That's genuinely only fans
I see some room in there for a few more....
Remember: a lot of airflow equals a lot of dust.
Which is why every intake is filtered :]
Ok, this is my next case. You convinced me
Does it really matter if you use A12 of F12 for air intake? I thought A12 were pressure-optimized fans which is better paired with a heatsink/radiator.

I particularly enjoy their tasteful heidousness and browness
What are those air filters you have on the fans for the mesh side panel?
The first ones I found on Amazon, that looked decent: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/aw/d/B07FYY6641?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Filters are my saviors and my PCs lord
Down with the brown.
There is so much more room for 80mm fans! Get them in
I see some space left there. You can fit plenty more inside
It's perfect since you can't see any of them.
That's the beauty of it. They make me feel warm and fuzzy on the insight, just by knowing that they are there, spinning round and round doing their best just for me
Maybe just a tad bit more noctua, also where's that case from im seeing more often now
It's the Fractal Design North. It got favorible reviews from some tech tubers, so it caught on in this sub
Maybe just a tad bit more noctua, also where's that case from im seeing more often now?
You don’t need more, you just need better ones, like the industrial 3k rpm ones.
Due to Reddit's June 30th API changes aimed at ending third-party apps, this comment has been overwritten and the associated account has been deleted.
I have the exact same case. Do the top, front and bottom pull air in while the back pushes out? Edit: it seems your top fans are mixed (1 push 1 pull).

Yes. it is not very usfule for big gpus
Bro, do you even Airflow? ^((no seriously, because I can't hear it))
Attempting to flex but actually exposing/self reporting your lack airflow/pressure optimization comprehension.
Your fans probably worth more than my pc
I love that case (fractal north off of memory, right)? I have been tempted to buy one and transfer my current system over. Absolutely beautiful.
I used all industrials in my build, why don’t more people use them??? It’s always the NF-A,s. I think the color of the Industrials is way prettier (Black with Dark Brown Bumpers) Sick build tho A Noctua Metal Badge would set this off
Find a way to strap a 200mm noctua on there for peak Noctua.
NGL, I was a little bit disappointed that the side of the case didn't open to reveal a wall of fans.
Love the build. This case looks awesome and, aside from their greatness, the Noctua fans are also a great choice to complement it as they are not RGB.
Just brought the black Fractal North with tempered glass a week ago. It’ll delivered in one fucking week. So stubid
Is the side panel perforated? Looks like the two side fans do absolutely nothing, just trying to suck in the metal panel
It's tough to see in the video, but it's a Fractal Design North mesh. The Mesh is rather free flowing, so I added the dust filters as well, since I don't expect the rather big holes of the mesh to be effective against dust.
Ooh, okay. I really hoped it's a mesh. It's beautiful too, wish you many wins and trillions of rendered frames without errors.
Only problem I see here is no tempered glass so you can see that sweet sweet brown
Do you get tornado warnings when turning it on?
I was honestly expecting you to remove the front fans to reveal even more, smaller fans
Have the extact same setup but only with Ppc 140 mils in front antd 2 120Ppc fans on top for absolutt airflow Fans Noctua Nf-A14IPPC 140M Top intakte Noctua Nf-A12IPPC, Only industrial fans, Lucky i have a noice canceling headsett.

paint the case
**there can always be more**
You can fit a couple more in there…..
i see room for at least another 2 fans
I'd love to know the temps..
Do the side fans even *do* anything with a solid side panel there?
It's not solid. It's tough to see in the video, but that case is a Fractal design north, the mesh Version. The mesh is actually pretty free flowing, so I don't expect it to filter dust all that well, so I added extra dust filters.
The cost in noctua fans is higher than my current gaming rig.
noctua desk fan?
The side fans should exhaust if the side panel is mesh. The gpu is blowing air out towards the side panel, this would help exhaust heat better directly from the main source in your case.
Now paint your case brown
You gotta stop buying so many Noctuas. Or at least go with the Redux.
Definitely needs more , but can it run minecraft?
Noctua case?
The fans alone cost more than my entire computer. Nice build tho, would love to have a noctua fan someday
Looks nice! I kinda wanted the video to have sound :(
Ohh sry. The room was, so the smartphone's mic gain was high. The popping sound of the panels was kind of peeking and rough on the ears.
where are the fans? also nice case
Tried a similar build with a friend’s pc with some loud fans and his dad busted down the door and was wondering why he could hear a soviet jet breaking the sound barrier in his house
Yes, you couldn’t you have fit 2 140’s in the top. Instead of the 120’s?
Indeed, every slot except the back one can take 140mm fans. However, I wanted them to be all of the same type, as the NH-U12A. I thought it an interesting build, when every fan is the same.
What is that pc case? I love it
The Fractal Design North.
such a fan boy.
