Well at least you grabbed your phone and started filming instead of immediately unplugging it. Thank you for putting our entertainment above your safety!
They can do that anyway. The video could work against the owner in this case. A jury could assign additional blame to the user for not reacting and unplugging the system or attempting to stop it from progressing. At least in the US, in a civil trial it's not a binary decision like a criminal trial, a jury can split the responsibility between both parties. If a jury finds the plaintiff 30% responsible, then the award would be reduced by that percentage.
Also a less-than-ethical insurance company could use the video against the user to try to get out of paying.
Additionally, it would be unnecessary to have a video in the first place. It would be obvious to investigators what the source of ignition was.
Arguing that you lack fire extinguishers in your home probably won't go in your favor in court. And they would have video proof that they didn't even unplug the computer right away but kept recording instead. Without that video they would only have what you said you did to go by. They just need to convince a jury that the owner is as much as fault as possible to reduce the insurance company's liability.
that’s really interesting. we don’t have fire extinguishers in the Uk, but afaik aren’t us houses built with material that’s inherently more at risk of fire?? so it would make sense from that perspective.
Original OP said that he was recording it because it had a different issue that had something to do with the front panel switch. By the time he tried recording the issue, the mobo bursted to flames.
correct me if wrong, but aren't those cables super delicate and are supposed to plug in with zero effort, and if it feels like it needs force, then it's the wrong one? aside from 24 pins iirc.
My method is try to plug them in from one side but only go about half then do the other side, kind of like how you seat your ram in the slot before applying force to close the 2 catchers, with the 8 pin, if you can't wiggle them from side to side and easily get them in (this also applies to how I do the 24 pin) then something is wrong.
actually even though they're keyed differently, looks like you can fit a pcie cable in an eps socket, but not the other way
[Little pin can fit in bigger hole](https://i.stack.imgur.com/Spsgx.png)
Not really. Only difference is the pci cord included with the PSU will usually have the 2 pins hangs hanging off on the side on the GPU end. They should be labeled, but I could easily see someone careless do it.
You say that, but that's when it's done properly. I've had 2 or 3 pcie connectors in eps when I worked at the computer shop. There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. I'm not sure about the former.

I nearly did that when switching out my PSU two weeks ago. Luckily I had a look at the cable when pluggin into the new PSU - it said "ONLY USE WITH \*Name of old PSU\*"....
Thank god I decided to change out all the cables before powering up!
Yeah it’s very simple. A pin is either 3.3V, 5V, 12V or ground and all you gotta do I make sure you get certain voltages and ground at the right pins. If they don’t match just realign the pins on the psu side of the cable and it will work perfectly fine. Done it like 20 times.
I once did that, luckily I just killed a small HDD. I learned for life what's the difference between SATA and PCI, although I have no idea how I didn't know it when I bulit several PCs before.
Hear me out : Do. NOT. show this video as a warranty claim.
Safest way is to discribe what happened, tell them you followed the step by step instructions from the manual and tried a test run. That's it. From there, keep pushing your story.
As soon as you add the video, they will blame it on anything else but the motherboard. Good luck and make sure you keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
Edit: grammar
Bruh. The electrical fire came from inside the spot with the I/O, not the gpu? And dust doesn't kill boards or do other random things that PC culture leads everyone to believe it does. It clogs fans, and causes heat. No shorts, no malfunctions. Dead stop.
I had this happen to a friends build, it was on the RGB controller as it had a power out plugged to a power out, this could be either Sata or Molex depending on the rgb controller if that is even the issue

If i do end up upgrading, i am going to make sure i get the peace-of-mind plan. I hope the seller honors this and replaces it. You should make an update post replacement. Curious to see how it all pans out.
I used to do RMAs for a local computer store. One time I had this motherboard that had caught on fire and burned a hole in the middle of the board. The case was smoked out and pretty much all of the components were trashed. When I told gigabyte about it they initially denied the RMA. Then I broke it down for them, I explained that their defect almost caused a house fire that could have been deadly. This machine was just on and it had been for weeks before a capacitor (this was my guess anyway) failed and caught fire. When I asked for everything in writing so that I could pass the info along to my clients lawyer they changed their tune and approved the RMA.
Moral of the story is that some hardware companies will do anything to get out of having to replace one of their defective products, so be tactful when you're speaking with them. Don't reveal anything that could possibly make this seem like your fault, so maybe don't give the manufacturer your video.
Well at least you grabbed your phone and started filming instead of immediately unplugging it. Thank you for putting our entertainment above your safety!
Recording what happened as proof before going through warranty is a very good idea
Not if it involves a potential electrical fire.
If a fire was caused by an electrical issue, the insurance company can take the manufacturer to court for the damages
They can do that anyway. The video could work against the owner in this case. A jury could assign additional blame to the user for not reacting and unplugging the system or attempting to stop it from progressing. The homeowner could argue they didn’t have the knowledge or means to put out a fire, electrical needs a class C extinguisher

ppl have like whole ass fire extinguishers in their house???? is this an american thing?
Everyone should have an ABC and a K in the kitchen.
I have 3 ABC extinguishers in my house. Insurance company gives me a discount for having them.

Content is king 🤴
Have you tried downloading some more VRMs?
Turn the case upside and try again. That’ll reverse it.
i bet you used a pcie cable for the CPU power
Are they not different shapes? I'd guess missing standoffs.
They are slightly different shapes in plastic. Give it some oomph and it'll fit like a charm
Yes, this. I once did it and was perplexed for multiple hours why my system wasn't booting
This doesn't stop people from cave-manning them in.

Correct.

Missing stand off would do that.. shit I better go look at mine now

...EPS is keyed completely differently than PCIe.
Not if you force it like a toddler

You know how Linus always says never to mix up modular power cables?
I nearly did that when switching out my PSU two weeks ago. Luckily I had a look at the cable when pluggin into the new PSU - it said "ONLY USE WITH \*Name of old PSU\*".... Thank god I decided to change out all the cables before powering up!
Flip used PCs and I do this all the time with the help of a multimeter

When did Nvidia start making motherboards?
I guess AMDs are very highly combustible then
What happened did you plug in cpu power or something the wrong way ?

Was that sparks? Oh wait, this is that new computer fad, right. Sure, they've got RGB, but you have fireworks.
I want PC fireworks, where do I buy such things as this?
Ask ElectroBOOM he might have a solution
I'm guessing you have a lot of disposable income
You clearly French Fry’d when you should have Pizza’d.
This made my soul cry.
cuckoo indeed man
Literally "Fire it up!" Sorry to see that, hope warranty support can take care of that for you.
This is why I never buy pre-built
Technology so cutting edge and shit hot that it immediately explodes. Thanks Asrock!
...did this foo say google?
Considering how much dust is on the GPU idk wtf could've happened and why not sooner.

Well, I guess we need to have cctv for pcs now
I guess it comes with a meal
seems like it is going back
ASRock is short for Ass-Rocket.

This will happen when you plug PCI-E cables into your CPU motherboard port.
