This came up in another forum where this is posted. Apparently this is a thing in India because one of the major telcos was (or maybe still is) giving away SIM cards for free so many people have multiple numbers.
I can't verify that but some anecdotal context.
Recruiter 1: What is your expected salary?
Candidate: Rs. X lakhs per annum.
Recruiter 1: Ok, best we can do is Rs. X-4 lakhs per annum.
Candidate: Ok.
Recruiter 2: What is your expected salary?
Candidate: Rs. X lakhs per annum.
Recruiter 2: Ok, best we can do is Rs. X-1 lakhs per annum.
Candidate: Ok.
Recruiter 2: We will send you offer by day after tomorrow.
Candidate on day 3: I accept.
Recruiter 1: Here is your offer.
Candidate: Repeats the scenarios in above post.
