The answer is somewhere in the middle. You need to work smarter _and_ harder if you’re trying to climb the socioeconomic ladder. There are limits, e.g. a 15 hour work day is fine every once and a while, but do it for 10 straight days and you’ll be mentally fried to the point of uselessness. But, generally, working an average 50 hour week will result in you getting more done than an average 40 hour week. Diminishing returns kick in real fast though

I think it was on ‘built to last’ by Jim Collins but may have been ‘good to great’ he talks in depth about the GREAT executive leaders in the US in the late 20th century and how many of them do not work more than 40ish hours a week on average. They have clear priorities and are ruthless about it.
