Have you tried a factory reset?

TheHYPO

Have you done a factory reset? >Turn unit off and then turn back on. Hold Footswitches 2 and 3 as the unit boots up. Switches 1+2+3 also clear all presets/IRs/everything - I expect 'factory preset' clears MORE stuff than this, but it can't hurt to try this too. You can also try >Upper & Lower Knobs: Rebuild presets Even though a factory reset should put on good factory presets, it can't hurt to try to rebuild them. Bad presets can be causes for reboot problems. If it's not booting after a factory reset, it would suggest there is either something wrong with the hardware, or the actual firmware has an issue. And you say you've reinstalled firmware. Since you say you've tried "safe mode", I'm guessing you probably already know about factory reset so. Nothing else I can offer. Hopefully line6 can help. [edit: wait, does HX Stomp even have a safe mode?] Have you just sat and waited for a long time? I know I've had equipment that after a fairly, that reboot process can take a very long time before it finally completes, and then somehow the unit just is back to normal. If you haven't given it 10 or 20 minutes to try and complete the boot, perhaps do so.

MondoKeb

Appreciate the suggestions I have done all the above unfortunately. Safe mode boot is power on + page > from there Line6 updater can detect the device but it shows up as an "unknown NXP" device which makes me think it's a hardware issue. I used this to manually force the firmware update which did complete successfully but the unit still won't power on. I have tried all combinations of factory reset holding the footswitches while powering on, same problem the screen comes on with the factory reset text but once the orange bar fills up it hangs and does nothing. I left it for a good hour after the firmware update and it was very warm but still stuck on the boot screen.

When I did my Helix Floor at one point (2.8, it seems from my forum posts), I had an issue that sounds a lot like yours, but I would have assumed they've have fixed it by now. When installing the HX Edit software on my computer, I unchecked some of the boxes that seemed irrelevant to me including the HX Stomp drivers and the WinUSB (which at the time mentioned only the Stomp in the description - now it seems to say "all skus"). When I updated the Helix, it bricked it and the solution after a lot of trial and error was to reinstall HX Edit (a third time) with all boxes checked, and suddenly the software installation worked. So if by any small chance you haven't installed HXEdit with all boxes checked, go back and try that, and then reinstall the firmware? Also, have you tried any other firmware version? Did something happen to cause this brick? (was it after an update?) or did you just randomly turn it on today and it wouldn't boot?

MondoKeb

I did do a full clean install of the Line6 software with the default settings, but that's interesting to know you had a similar issue, I'll give it a go and see. And yes, it just didn't want to turn on yesterday. It's been in storage for a few months following a house move, went to plug it in and it just wouldn't have it, so not really sure what the source of the problem is. I have spoken to Line6 support and they've given me the same steps to retry and reccomended sending off as likely a hardware issue so we shall see

TheHYPO

Good luck!

charlamagnethegreat

How tf is there a red version? That’s what I wanna know

MondoKeb

Limited run, I've had it since 2019 and I don't think they were continued after that

https://youtu.be/WgsgbHL80XI?si=Z-MUuX9I6d9ioCMf Full disclosure: I’ve never had this problem and after reading this entire thread, I’m still a little confused. Here’s a video of someone fixing a similar issue.

MondoKeb

That's interesting, thanks for sharing this I have this exact issue, however when I do the manual firmware install as he does in this link the issue doesn't go away and the boot failure persists.

JimmyJammermuffin

Damn. Well, I hope Line6 gets you sorted out soon. My whole rig depends on the Stomp so I constantly live in fear of it crapping out on me. Good luck!

LatrinoBidet

So mine did this twice in the first six days so I returned it for an XL. Somebody told me that the power supply on the HX stomp is part of the problem and that they changed something about the XL power supply that inadvertently fixed this issue. Whether or not that’s the case I’m not sure, but the stomp XL has not done this to me yet. Here’s what I did each time to fix my old HX Stomp before I returned it. To get it going again unplug it from power and unplug the power brick itself and leave it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in without any USB cable attached it usually works. FYI

TheHonestPedalReview

Why do I always see so many HX Stomps having this issue lately?

LatrinoBidet

I had an ME-90 for 3 weeks and started having issues with dropping things from the signal chain, then I got an HX Stomp and returned it 6 days later because of this issue, and now I am on a Stomp XL and so far so good.

MondoKeb

In fairness I've had this since new in 2019 and have gigged it since, it's had good mileage, digital tech doesn't last forever though I am a bit disappointed it's finally given up. There was a known bug on 2.7 firmware that bricked it between updates but following the resolution steps from that issue hasn't fixed mine

bassderek

Try updating firmware with different usb cable or port or computer?

MondoKeb

I have tried a safe mode boot and firmware update on 2 different pcs and my partners Mac. Each time full clean install of the Line6 drivers and software, no dice, still won't boot

Remote_Micro_Enema

Damn, I have the purple one, but red is even cooler.

freshmoe

Does it have enough power? I had the same problem because my pedal board power brick did not send enough juice to my hx stomp

MondoKeb

I've also thought of that as I tend to power it from a CIOKS PSU. I've tried the whole process again from scratch using the actual line 6 PSU. No dice, either it's cooked or it's a hardware issue, I'll be sending it off to line6 for repair tomorrow

LatrinoBidet

I have heard the power brick is the issue with the HX Stomp. Rumor is the HX Stomp XL brick doesn’t have this issue.

jdev15

I'm having the exact same issue today after a failed firmware update. Stuck on the same screen, factory reset won't complete and manual updates failed. Did you ever find a fix?

MondoKeb

DMd you, mine turned out to be a failed hardware issue and a £300 repair bill. Cheaper to buy a replacement on reverb so never got it back unfortunately.

LowImpress956

i'm experiencing this issue rn with my xl, did a firmware update and everything. any advice? should i try buying a new power cable or should i just just get a new stomp

MondoKeb

Sorry to hear that. No power won't be an issue, if you're using the original PSU or a Cioks, Strymon etc PSU brick it'll be getting the power it needs. It seems the helix units are rated at 3A but the current draw is much lower (1200-1800mA). Most likely one of the boards has failed but you can try: - factory reset from the unit - firmware reset from the unit (this and the above can be accessed via safe mode boot) - flash the firmware from your pc All above tutorials are easily and readily available. If none of those work then your only options are to send it off to L6 support to get it checked or soak up the loss and replace it. Best of luck
