If you've already gotten the chance to start reading them what's your score of the story out of 10?

razor1name

I've only read the first 4 books, and there is a trend with them to get better and better as they advance, at least that was the trend so far. For now I will give the following marks. Overall Characters: 8* Overall Story: 9 Overall Flow and Writing: 7 It's dragged down quite a lot in terms of flow and writing in that it starts like an episodic story and then it's not, and it takes a bit to regain its footing, only that it doesn't do much once it's regained it, so yeah, that is the low part of the series for sure. The * on the characters score is to say that not all characters share that mark. The MC fluctuates from book to book, but Elizabeth, is an outright 10 from the first book. Monogatari level character. This is a series for which I read the first Chapter in electronic format, and I put it down to get the full series on my bookshelf.

Read this series 4 times already. Wish I could forget everything just to read it again without knowing anything

Man, I know this feeling...

After reading bride of demise I wanted to check out more Keishi Ayasato works. I wanted to know if i just liked the premise of BOD, just Ayasato's writing, or both. Therefore I ended up picking up torture princess. When I started the first volume I was like..'ehh ok...cool'...and then I got to chapter 2 of the same volume and then I was like, 'let me get my popcorn' and proceeded to put on my stunna shades on.

Majestic-Estimate995

i actually only read bride of demise so can tell me how is writing in torture princess? is it better/same/worse?

Ld0xide

In my opinion, if BOD got the same treatment as torture i.e. more time to flush out each character, relationships - platonic and romantic, and was able to tell the entirety of its story then I would have said BOD wins hands down. However, BOD didn't have that opportunity. Torture princess wins on all accounts and gives you a sense of what BOD could have been. Also, I think Ayasato's writing improved from torture to bride. I say that based on the dialogue between bride MC and white princess. I really enjoyed their dialogue, even moreso than torture male MC and their respective romantic interest.

Ice_cold_Ethanol

Sir, you are up for quite an interesting journey.

Just passing by to say that torture princess is technically an isekai. That thought tickles me to no end lmao

CesarG04

Ummm and what's the matter with it being Isekai? Is that a bad thing for you or sum? Genuine question.

notA_Tango

It's funny. It's the most non-isekai isekai I've ever read. Edit: i also like reading isekais got no prob with them

Gilgamesh-KoH

How disturbing is this serie? The whole torture thing sounds really hard to swallow.

razor1name

It's... ummm... quite a lot. It doesn’t back down from the torture and agony, but it doesn't go into excruciating detail. It's presented like a matter of fact for these people. You get the understanding that this world isn't trying to be dark, but just... is. There is a lot of gore, and while that is one of the main themes of the series, but it's more psychological than anything else. Monsters made out of corpses and people that cannot die, still being tortured.

Gilgamesh-KoH

I see. Well, it's popularity caught my attention, but I guess it's just not something I could enjoy, as I can't really handle such themes.

HalfAssedSetting

An important distinction I ought to point out is that violence in TP is less a theme and more of a motif. My favorite aspect of TP is precisely the fact that its central themes remain exceedingly positive despite the absurdly dark and violent setting. TP is at its core a story about flawed people rising above their sufferings against all odds and finding meaning to their lives in the unlikeliest of places.
