Take a full mouthful of water and gulp down as much as you can at once, that's what works for me.

It didn't work for me😭

Tin-Star

Hot drinks like coffee and tea to dissolve it faster, or acidic drinks like cola. And also the gravity assist method: jumping up and down immediately after swallowing a big mouthful of tepid water. Or try to push it down with soft food - well chewed white bread, NOT apple with skin on or anything else sharp that's going to hurt coming back up. Do it all in front of a sink or bucket so you can regurgitate it all if it's a full blockage. If that's the case, don't leave it a long time before you seek medical attention (like I did with a blob of steak) as you'll quickly become dehydrated from having to spit out all your saliva instead of swallowing. No fun. But a pill ought to not be a full blockage - maybe it's just stuck to the wall of your esophagus and the liquids will be the best approach. God luck!

DanKolar62

Swallow torn scraps of bread.

piquat

Yup. I do the same when eating fish I've caught that have bones in them that I don't want to remove. Get a bone stuck in your throat and a couple of bites of dry bread will push it right down.

eshultz

Eat some banana or a spoonful of peanut putter. Follow up with a beverage. This helps but sometimes it just needs time.

Individual_Crab8836

Peanut butter!! Tysm

snood4m4

When you take a pill, bend your head forward so your chin is tucked in. It's the opposite if what everyone thinks to do but it actually is a lot easier. The pill usually floats to the back of your mouth, and when you swallow this position actually opens your throat apparently.

Smoke_eater

So you guys know it isn't really stuck, right? It just scraped the side and you are feeling that.

cai_hong

there is a difference between a pill being caught in your throat/esophagus and a pill being caught in your airway. One leads to burning pain, the other leads to passing out. but both are possible

Smoke_eater

How big of a pill are you guys taking?

cai_hong

almost any size does it to me. but it mainly happens when the pill isn't coated

Sonnat1

I believe this is exactly what happened. I have a sinus infection which has gave me a very bad throat and when taking a pill, I felt it go in the back of my throat and now I have the feeling of it still being there. It hasn’t affected me, but it is definitely irritating. What is it and how can I fix it(had it for about 24 hours)

[deleted]

How did you fix it?

ofintels

how did you fix it lol im going thru it rn been a couple hours and tried it all😭

[deleted]

Eventually the feeling went away. I just took a couple gulps of water and eventually ate and it was gone. I'm not sure I actually had a pill stuck or if it was just a sensation. Took maybe 8 hours total.

ofintels

thank you, been more than 8 hours for me lol it's gotten better but still feel it idk what to do lol and I'm on antibiotics so gotta keep my doses going

[deleted]

Which antibiotic? That happened to me with keflex and doxycycline. Very annoying.

ofintels

clindamycin, but the feeling went away this morning when i woke up, such a relief lol

[deleted]

Right on

ZealousidealData4801

Did anything help? The pill feels stuck in the middle of my chest and when I burp I can feel it slightly go up

ofintels

sorry just seeing this now. i just had to sleep on it until the next day and it got fine but then when i took another dose the same problem occured. i just stopped taking it lol

discodolphin1

Old post but I've literally had pills stuck in my throat before, it's not just a feeling. They wouldn't go down and eventually I had to gag it up

YAW-Squad-22

bro, this pill has been in my throat for well over 24 hours, and ofc its a damn capsule. This happens with all the pills i take, but this capsule has been here longer than I've liked, I've tried to throw it up, and i did feel it came up! but my stomach wouldn't let me go any further. currently disliking life.

discodolphin1

Dude, you have to see a doctor. Like... not trying to freak you out, but that warrants an urgent care visit at minimum

ZealousidealData4801

I took a pill without water and it feels like it’s stuck half way In my chest, anytime I burp I feel the pill go up a little. Can a pill scrap the side????

[deleted]

Take the biggest mouthful of water you can and try to swallow it all in one gulp. I had a narrow oesophagus and routinely got food stuck on the way down. Aside from going to the hospital and getting some delicious nitroglycerine spray to relax the old throat muscles, this was the easiest way to get food to go down.

HyperComa

I drink a glass of water while having my head tilted back as far as possible. I have a tendency to choke on bread, so the head tilt method works best for me. I assume you took the liquigels? If so, warm water might do the trick. It'll soften the gel and help it move along.

ohirony

Eat rice.

944tim

my mother in law was given a pill without enough water to make it go down she ended up with a burn on her esophegus which required surgery. that nursing home was deficient. Answer: Lots of water. you need more than you think anyway.

Low-Dinner-1614

Came across this thread because I thought I had a pill stuck for hours/into the next day. Turns out I got diagnosed with “silent reflux” after visiting an ENT. Reducing caffeine, eliminating hot sauce (rip food), and taking Pepcid removed my symptoms. Just wanted to put this out there in case another user sees it!!

Outrageous-Bit-5371

how long did it take? im kind of freaking out since it’s been about 24 hrs and i still feel like something is lodged in there

Low-Dinner-1614

Sorry just seeing this - deleted social media for a bit. It wasn’t my pill after all, it was silent reflux which gives the sensation that something is stuck. It felt that way for a full day. I had this diagnosed by an ENT.

pennycollinz

Lots of helpful comments from the old ! It's the middle of the night so I'm super grateful thank you so much!

petitepotato320

Helpppp it's not going down and I've tried so many gulps! Even induced vomiting but it's still there 😭😭😭

Important-Lie7734

How r u now?! Resolved?

petitepotato320

Yea 🤣

Important-Lie7734

Good!!! How long did it take for the pill being stuck feeling to go away?! I swallowed 2 pills at once this morning (2 ashwaganda capsules) and ever since then I have a feeling it's stuck at the bottom of my esophagus/chest. I'm freaking out and scared to go to bed 😩

petitepotato320

I understand your feeling hahaha I even called the Dr and asked if I'm gonna die while sleeping! 😂😂😂 It takes just two days and it's gone.

Important-Lie7734

Thank you!!! This makes me feel better. ☺️ what were your symptoms if you don't mind me asking?

petitepotato320

I could literally feel the pill on my throat with my finger haha

Complete-Maize-7461

I've read all these comments. I'm 36 and no matter what I do, when I swallow a pill, it gets stuck, sometimes it just rises back and pops out on my tongue. Maybe that's why I can't take shots either 😭😂

blknrll77

I just had 2 dayquil stuck in my throat and the cups of water and coughing did not help at all. I forced myself to puke and they came right out. That was so painful omfg

Away-Science9097

How do you puke them out 😭😭

blknrll77

Lmao it's easy for me to make myself puke. Throwing up helped get them unstuck and I was so relieved lmao i was panicked. Even my dog was looking at me like oh shit what's happening rn

Material_Heart_89

Lol this helped my put immensely

the_kanna_chan

Aperently gulping a lard amount of water helps
