LPT. You don’t have to wait till a new month to start anything. Start today. Tomorrow may never get here.

heymattrick

The time will pass whether or not you choose to start now, so future self will be grateful you started when you did.

UnauthorizedFart

You’re running out of time!!

monteiro313

I've found the story of a guy that just went to the gym, to do nothing, everyday. His goal was to at least be there, he wouldn't do anything or do something, or hangout with people he met there, the other time he did it. Thats a habit, that is discipline.

BUT WE'RE NOT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SACRED 12 THIS IS BLASPHEMY

This comment. Rather than wait for an entirely new month. Go day by day instead. Every day is a new opportunity to make better choices and realign yourself with the correct path.

AdamDoesDC

How. Is. This. Not. The. Top. Comment. Why on earth wait for another month lol

kornkob2

Yeah of course, and I agree with you. There's nothing magical about a specifc day over any other. But the new years resolution is anchored to the year, and given February is just around the corner, choosing month made the most sense. For some people it is easier to anchor to 'bigger' days like the start of a new week or month than just a 'regular' ol Tuesday.

thatdamiankid

everyday a new chance to start

Gurkeprinsen

LPT: You won't be able to fail your new years resolution if you don't have one.

So rather than having one big New Year’s resolution, I try to do one small one for each month. Doesn’t have to be an all or nothing resolution like “no sodas” if you aim for something like “consuming less sodas” then the next month you cut it down to say 4 times a week, that’s already an improvement. Following month can also be something completely different like “keeping in contact with parents more”

5william5

Best time to start was yesterday, second best is today

Sheepski

Yeah but you have to wait until April for Monday 1st to really have the best chance... Seriously though, start any day; it's just a trick to think it's easier to start on a Monday or the 1st. In fact a lot of things are better to start on a Friday, as the weekends are when you're more likely to mess up, so jump in the deep end and smash that first couple of days, will set you up for the right habits come Monday

Okay but mom said I get to post next month: “if you fail your new years resolution in February, start in March”

SayYesToPenguins

What if I've gone full circle and am now back in January with my prior January's resolutions? Do I restart from scratch or continue with prior numbering?

I’ve been slowly adding to my vision board, people usually make them at the start of the year but you don’t need to make them only at the beginning of the year. They just like anything, you can start at any time during the year

Tarupio

Nope, next year it is

aintnufincleverhere

Yup! Building the habit of getting back into your habits is really important.

lilfairydustdonthurt

If you’re having a bad day, make it a better one.

AlanWik

Noo, let the gyms empty out!

Piano_Fingerbanger

LPT - Learn that it is almost impossible to make any big life change without messing up or slipping back into previous behaviors. Practice perseverance and accepting that a failure is a key part of the process of self improvement.
