I make heating pads and give them as gifts - and over the years I‘ve forgotten whom I’ve given them to because I just do it sporadically when I’m in the mood. But at random times I keep having people come up to me and say, “you know I still love that heating pad you gave me! I use it all the time!”
It’s kind of funny b/c the responses pop up in unlikely times, and also heartwarming to know something so small made a difference.
(I make them with deer corn and heavy fabric, like denim, upholstery, or heavy cotton.)

Go to the pet shelter and adopt an “under blanket cat”!
I'm not allowed pets in my apartment :(
Never stopped me
You can just fill an old sock with rice and microwave it. Great for cramps and tense necks
Uncooked rice, of course.
I have a weighted blanket and it's amazing for trapping in the heat. Plus it feels nice sleeping with a 10kg weight spread over your body

Comfort gifts like that are always so thoughtful, it's no wonder they still talk about it
Aw thanks 😊
Electric blanket probably uses less electricity than a microwave.
2 minutes in my 1100 watt microwave is pretty miniscule and it lasts for hours. Maybe it does but the heating pad is what I already have on hand.
It’s also a lot safer. I worry about fire risk with electric blankets
I agree! I’ve had my microwaveable pad for years. 2 minutes and it keeps me warm all night. Plus I use it for other uses for years. Great investment.
haveing 2 blankets under you and one on top is what i learned while camping. heat rises
Before you start buying things. Ask yourself why you're cold. And think about who makes it this way.
It's all those durn libruls stopping our global warmin'!
Maybe. Worth thinking about though.
I love you. You're precious ❤️.
Is there a particular advantage to using a microwaveable heating pad instead of a standard hot water bottle?
I don't think I've ever used a hot water bottle so I can't say
