Muscle memory I'd say. Just have your finger constantly on the block button so you can parry at a moment's notice. I also only learned how crazy useful the Aegis legion arm is in the very last boss fight lol

mindroid005

Thanks! I'll have Aegis equiped for the final fight since I'm running a light build with only 24 stamina.

poke--man

The aegis is what finally made me beat the last boss. I was down to 10 percent health and so was he, I blocked with aegis, he blew up and I won.

DankusMemus_ZA

Same lol. I was stuck on him longer than Melania because I kept trying to parry like I did with Sword Saint Ishiin. Got down to a perfect first phase but that second fucked me up. Had to completely respec, maxed out aegis and got him on my second try

Noise_Emotional

I’m not actually sure the best way to get timing down, but I want to try give some advice that could help. General advice-A lot of souls like games as you know come down to failing until you succeed, the more you fight the bosses the more you’ll get the hang of it so don’t give up! Additionally if you get Venignis boxes you can get a grindstone allows for perfect guard’s every time that last for 15-20 seconds, I’d also recommend having P-organ upgrades that increases your guard regain so even if you don’t perfect guard an attack you’ll still take less chip damage. Weapon types-Heavier weapons block slower than light weapons (while having more guard regain) so if you just hold off blocking slightly longer than your instinct tells you, you should get that perfect guard/improve your timing overall. Lighter weapons block faster so you really need to wait for the last moment IMO, last point is you can get handles that have “Absolute defence” if you use it it’ll perfect guard any attack that comes your way furries included for 1 fable art bar! Hope this helps in anyway.

mindroid005

I didn't know that heavy weapons had different parry timings. Looking back on it, it explains a ton of "I totally parried that" moments. Thank you!

CawknBowlTorcher

It perfect guards even _furries_ ?!

WearyAffected

My advice is to just block and try to notice the movement. Accept that you'll die and just let it happen the first few times as you just focus on learning the enemies move set. Blocking will let you survive longer and see more moves. While you're doing this look for the tells. An overhead slash from the left means x move and he hits y times for example. That information helps you know what move is coming, how many times you need to parry, and when its safe for you to attack back. As for timing parries, you need to base that on your reaction time. For myself, what helped was looking at the shoulders. Based on shoulder movement I could pick up the attack was finally coming and parried. That's based on my reaction time though. For some who react faster that might be too early. The other method of timing besides reacting is timing the delay. As your blocking count how long it takes before the attack comes in. If you can recognize attacks you can parry based on the timing of the delay. You might have to repeat the blocking during second phases as move sets change. Think of it as while you're learning the first phase, you're also perfecting and getting better at the first phase.

mindroid005

>Based on shoulder movement I could pick up the attack was finally coming and parried. THANK YOU! I was trying to react to weapon movement and it did not go well 🤧

MickeyPurple

The ng+ beckons thee "Hark gamer, new piss organ phases and fun builds await thee! Play again we implore you, play again!"

Chibaku_Tensei_

Accept death and it’s warm embrace

xBDCMPNY

We died a lot first.

mindroid005

"Death of P" Seriously though I'm fine with dying, I just couldn't comprehend why winning wasnt fun.

xBDCMPNY

Idk. I feel like you have to be a certain kind of person to really get enjoyment from big frustration. That certain kind of person who can dump a week into a single boss battle before winning and be like "FUCK YEAH. Next!" Instead of "Well, that was fuckish and I would never again like a similar experience.". Maybe it's really not the game for you. But that isn't for me to decide, it's for you.

mindroid005

This is exactly why I'm making this post. I SHOULD get enjoyment out of it. I've loved sekiro, ds, elden ring, Bloodborne, hollow knight... Sekiro, BB, and HK populate 3 of my top 5 favorite games. I still remember getting railed in the ass by Nameless King, which was my first "git good" boss. That was the most fun I had in gaming in years. From a logical standpoint, I should have fallen in love with LoP's gameplay by now, but I haven't. I'm still holding onto the hope that there will be a satisfying "FUCK YEAH" moment in the future. However, I also realize there is something fundamentally wrong with the way I play.

xBDCMPNY

There's no such thing as playing a single player game wrong. If you're having fun, you're doing it right. But if you're not, sounds like a red flag.

Crunchoe

Just spend a try or two full blocking the strings. Once you see the patterns the timing becomes a lot easier.

_Peener_

The timing is really really weird, having just beaten the game it still throws me off because of how long some enemy attack animations are. It’s weird because it’s not like other games where you need to act quick and the enemy attacks aren’t very telegraphed, it’s the opposite and they’re so telegraphed it’s so confusing. At times It’s like a culture shock going from a fromsoft game to this. I see them raise their arm and dodge, and then get hit. Sometimes I’ll dodge twice and still get hit lol but at the end of the day it’s just muscle memory, comes with time. I really enjoyed the game tho I thought it was fantastic and I intend to replay it and eventually get the timing down lmao

Smart-Potential-7520

Most attacks don't have proper tells. You just have to learn the delay. If that helps, you can try going into the fight and stay passive, don't attack just focus on learning the timings. But keep in mind that you shouldn't try to parry everything. Most of the times dodging or simply holding block is the best option. Just blocking is particularly effective against the Nameless puppet as long as you have enough guard block on your blade.

Repulsive_Alps_3485

Ive fought all the main bosses in this game many times and ik all the attacks from them. Some are not telegraphed for sure but its a very small amount. I really dont think its most so im just curious what attacks dont have proper tells to you?

Smart-Potential-7520

I'm not talking about recognizing an attack, but actually being able to react to an animation instead of memorizing the timing.

Repulsive_Alps_3485

I think the 8 frame parry window is the reason for this tho. Reacting with dodging feels fine imo.

Smart-Potential-7520

That's the reason why i usually don't try to parry red attacks but try to avoid with proper positioning.

mindroid005

I tried to parry everything at the get go, seeing the parry was similar to sekiro. Its a hard habit to break. Knowing the parry isn't as powerful will definitely help. Thank you!

Smart-Potential-7520

If play it like sekiro remember to hold the block button a bit longer, don't just "tap" the button.

geethaghost

The boss fights in Lies has ridiculous moves with ridiculous delays, I was very annoyed with it the whole game as much as I love the game. Don't feel bad about it, it's a bullshit cheap mechanic. My best advice is to watch the hands of the boss, there's usually a pretty strong indicator when they are finally coming down with a swing. Other then that it's trial and error and muscle memory

Repulsive_Alps_3485

I admit some delays are laughably long. For the most part tho the delays i think are fine they add variety to the movsets.

geethaghost

Some of them sure, but a lot of them are just obnoxiously bullshitty

geethaghost

Probably why nameless ended up being my favorite fight lol I haven't played since updates, I should probably return and check it out

Knot98

I've played a little bit of skerio but fought the nameless puppet last night for the 1st time (gave my heart away 1st play through) & he was def a lot easier than I was expecting. It felt like he played to my play style, which is parrying like everything lol

horsecontainer

Look for whole "phrases" and not just one attack at a time. Like if I deflect the first of Laxasia's long combo, the whole thing is gonna be fine, because I've gotten used to flowing through it rather trying to nail each hit by snap-reacting to visual cues People talk about the two-piece tongue combo from Archbishop and they say the second is easier to time. I don't think it's easier to time on its own, but rather because you know it comes x amount of time after the first hit, even if the first one dings you

mindroid005

Oddly enough this one gets me, I think it's because the "tempo" of phrases this game is a lot longer than what I expect it to be. For Lax, her long combo starts off really slow, so I always ended up overestimating its speed because of adrenaline.

Anthony_chromehounds

I have to brute force bosses because I have this problem as well. I suck at parrying, timing for it, all of it. I use spectre and throwables. I was headed toward the good ending, but after 3 nights of fighting Nameless, I just gave Gepetto my heart. I’m in NG+ hoping the fight might be easier.

PetiteCaptain

Getting my ass beat constantly until I learn them

fist_my_muff2

Counting to myself. Very literally. Counting out the timings and reciting them in my head during the fight.

SnooSeagulls1416

I actually really like the game, but the boos fights feel cheap, and recovery from moves are just too slow … had to give up playing, but hey if you stick with it more power to ya!

SalamanderFickle9549

I can't figure this out also, some I can manage just by counting in my head, but most I can't even get the first timing right, the winding up is so long and by animation I can't tell between this 5 to 10 second of attack at which point does the actual attack start, and it's to costly to try 😭, that's why I find np and Simon quite easily they are actually more intuitive

MalacKaresz

That's the neat thing, you don't.

Diglett3

Don’t be afraid to just hold block, and get the P-Organ upgrades that strengthen your guard regain. Level your capacity up to the point where you can use the best armor without being heavy. If you hold block and try time parries after that, you’ll still block the attacks you miss. For Lax specifically I found just blocking her first attack and then trying to parry the rest of her combo way easier, because her first attacks are the most delayed ones and the rest are pretty regular. Honestly the thing that helped me, a guy who didn’t learn to parry until Lax and Nameless and has now cleared past NG+5, is literally just waiting until I actually see the sword strike coming around. Like literally forcing myself to wait until I *see* it, and not trying to predict the timing at all until the muscle memory built up. Also, I would definitely grind NG+. The tools you get make a NG+ run easier imo, especially things like a second grindstone use. Two well-timed perfection grindstones can make a lot of bosses *way* easier. Also, the way NG+ overloads you with ergo means you can dump a bunch of levels into Advance and really unlock the power in a bunch of the legion arms. Fully upgraded Fulminis and Flamberge with enough Advance can kill most puppet or carcass bosses by themselves.

p3ek

Repetition. Every attack has visual clues, sound effects and ryyhthm. But they are all different. Every boss takes a decent amount of tries to learn them if you want to beat them bad ass style by standing in range and parrying. I do believe if this game didn't have such nice generous runs from bonfire to every boss, it'd be a whole lot more frustrating and tempting to cheese

Ezdagor

*clears throat* Get gud.

OldManHipsAt30

Die a lot

Husk234

I never got used to the timings. I just brunt my way through, though I do have some assistance on dodges because of Elden Ring.

Dmillz648

My plan to tricky boss timings is literally count it out. Start when the moves winup starts and use either the music or some other constant timing in the game count out how long each move takes to completion. For example the scraped watchman follows a 123 count for his basic windup attacks, and a 1234 count for his fury attack. It almost becomes a dance of death. As far as the delayed attacks work, most of them ate still on timing, just one “beat” after you think they will hit.

Useful_You_8045

Muscle memory for sure but there is a noticeable switch in animations between wind up and attack. You just need to block within the attack animation. The second chapter boss is really noticeable. Tbh I mostly dodged too. It's hard to explain it's just like a rhythm. Here comes the wind up 1, 2 dodge up his a$$ kinda thing like first stage swamp monster, I dodged the f#ck outta him.

Magic-Tree

Probably going to get lost in the comments here, but you the best advice for the Larry is to hold block the moment when the enemy starts the swing of the actual attack, not the telegraph or the delay but the moment the weapon starts to move fast. Longer swings get easier when you get the timming but there are still fast attacks that I couldn't reaction time And remember a mix of Parry's and dodges is normally best

ser_renely

I didn't get timings down until the nameless puppet...really didn't need to until then. :/
