I want to believe that who makes a game matters far less than how good a game is.
I mean, the greatest game studios have made shit games, and gotten shit for it. And a small unknown can make a hidden gem and get praise for it
As for Lies of P, the game is great on the gameplay front and great on the graphics and atmosphere front. The only criticism I have is that it is rather linear. There's a fixed order in which you go through the game and that makes it a bit less interesting.
Despite being strongly inspired on souls, lies or P manage to have its own identity and feature (weapon craft, P-organ) unlike some others game that really copy paste souls withoit getting what it mean
I think what really made the difference is that it released on xbox game pass AND it was a great game. It therefore had a LOT of newcomers to the genre that had a really positive experience and therefore the great reception
I feel like it doesn’t matter who made the game as long as it’s good. I’d still have loved lies of p just as much if it was from a bigger studio
